[SOLVED] ark (kde), how to show up hidden folders?

If I want to extract anything with ark, how can I make my hidden folders visible in the dialog box?
I mean, is that even possible?

Does anyone know how to make hidden folders visible like in Windows, or if there is even a way at all?
A few weeks ago my iPod kind of crashed and I lost my library, but the files are still on it. Anyone who is familiar with Windows knows you can just goto "folder options" and make hidden folders visible, which is how you can get into your iPod to access the individual music files.
I need and want to format the iPod but can't because I need my music off of it first and I get Finder to allow me to see the hidden folders. Please help!

Since I use the Terminal frequently I use it to transfer songs that are on my iPod back to various computers. However, if you aren't used to Terminal there are better options. See this page:

How do I view hidden folders?

I recently did a clean install of Lion on my MacBook Air and I have a copy of my previous home folder sitting on my desktop. How do I view the hidden Library folder that is in the previous home folder on my desktop? I'm sure there is an easy "Go to Folder" command, but I don't really know how the syntax for that is supposed to work so I can find it.

No, but you can hold down the option key while clicking on the 'Go' menu in the Finder menubar and that will show your current ~/Library folder in the menu, which you can then click on.
However, as I understood your original post, you're trying to look at a hidden folder on your desktop (an old Library folder? Not sure how that's happened, but anyway).
If you don't want to show ALL hidden files you can just make one specific file visible by using this command in Terminal instead of the global one I gave you before (NOTE: this assumes there is an invisible file on your desktop called 'Library'. If that's not the case, change the path to wherever the hidden file is):
chflags nohidden ~/Desktop/Library
Then press 'Return'. To make the same file hidden again just use:
chflags hidden ~/Desktop/Library
Then press 'Return'.

In order to reinstal an application (Trend Micro sync), I first need to remove a selecion of hidden files that I used on Leopard to find under the account/library/ Application support.... They are "hidden folders and files". Under Lion I don't know how to set the finder to show them to me, especially as I don't remember the name !

JuhOS X lists all files and flags invisible ones. Some applications let you toggle invisibility, though this doesn't take effect until you restart the Finder.
The other thing to do is verify your drive with Disk Utility. Your computer isn't likely to be suddenly deciding to hide files, but aberrant behavior could be an indicator of a corrupt drive.

I switched to Mac from PC which means I lost FrontPage. I have 6 small websites for my books and I need to rebuild these. I don't have time to learn Dreamweaver at this time. How do I create the essential hidden folders I need in iWeb to place the books for download?

I just wasted 6 hours before I realized this. I'm so frustrated switching from PC to Mac. The learning curve is tremendous and very frustrating. I've lost over a month of productivity due to little issues like this. Hopefully no one else will suffer. Here's the remedy I came up with.
Basically iWeb cannot be used for anything other than basic vanity mini websites. If you're doing ecommerce, need various folders or are using it to market products with downloads or anything needing protected, this is not the product to use.
For others with my issue, how do you update or change a FrontPage site when you no longer have it and no longer have a PC (most of the open source programs available for this only work on PC). My sites were built in FrontPage. I needed to update and change them. This is how to do it.
From the hosting panel with your hosting company use the FTP uploader. You need to save the entire FrontPage Website to your computer or an external harddrive. You can then open it and edit it in DreamWeaver. You may be able to do this with outher editors as well but this one I know you can. Dreamweaver can be rented on a month-to-month basis now and it does come with a 30 day free trial.
If you don't know how to do CSS style sheets, you will need to go into each open page, cut the text, past it into an rtf document in Mac. Then, choose format and change it to 'plain text' and recopy and past into the open page of Dreamweaver. This gets rid of the funky formatting FrontPage does and changes all the copy to <p> tags. Then go into the code view in Dreamweaver and add the <h1> <h2> and other headings where needed. Dreamweaver does allow you to specify the attributes and create an in page CSS.
All of this is temporary but at least you'll be able to work on, edit and make changes even if you've lost access to a PC and FrontPage. Eventually you will need to replace the entire FrontPage site

[SOLVED] Openbox+Thunar, how to show usb devices in thunar?

Hi. I've been running a pretty standard Xfce environment for a while. When I plug in a usb drive, I get a new item pop up in the "DEVICES" section of the left panel in thunar (note, it doesn't automount the device, it just shows that it's there and only mounts it when I click on it...I like this behaviour).
Now, I'm setting up an even lighter-weight environment, just openbox and tint2 with thunar as the file manager. But when I'm logged into the openbox environment, I don't get the item in the "DEVICES" section in thunar (but it still works fine in xfce).
If it run thunar from the command line and plug in a usb drive I get this message in the terminal
(thunar:21205): thunar-WARNING **: Failed to launch the volume manager (Failed to execute child process "thunar-volman" (No such file or directory)), make sure you have the "thunar-volman" package installed.
I don't see why I would need thunar-volman if it works fine in xfce. If I install thunar-volman and do the same, I get this message
thunar-volman: Unsupported USB device type.
thunar-volman: Unsupported USB device type.
thunar-volman: Unknown block device type.
So I'm wondering if maybe there is a daemon that is autostarted during an xfce session that makes thunar probe for devices to be plugged in or something like that. Why does it work in an xfce session, but not in an openbox session?

henk: I tried installing polkit-gnome and creating the rule as per the wiki, but it didn't work. Volume detection seems to work fine in xfce without this package.
jv2112: I added udiskie to .config/openbox/autostart and it seems to work. I've had problems with udiskie in the past; it seemed to have some trouble unmounting the drives properly after a write as I would find that the newly written files were corrupt. But it seems to be working fine.
I'll mark this as solved, but I'm still curious as to how xfce-thunar is mounting the usb devices.
One clue is that with udiskie, devices get mounted to /media, whereas in xfce they get mounted to /var/run/media/username/ (or something like that).

How to show previously hidden box on slide start?

I have added a textbox and graphic to a slide. I also added a close button. When the user clicks the close button, i want to hide the textbox and graphic. I was successfuly able to do that using the "Multiple Actions" option button.
The problem is that once the user hides the textboxes, I want those to reappear if the user returns to the slide. How do I achieve this?

This can be simply achieved by setting the 'On Slide Enter' action present in the Slide Properties dialog box.
Steps:
1. Double-click the slide on which these objects are present. Slide Properties dialog should get invoked.
2. Select the On slide enter drop-down and then the 'Multiple actions' option in the drop-down.
3. Now, select the Show option in the Multiple Actions dialog and select the objects you want to show, when user revisits the slide.

It's not really something to snap a screen shot of. I believe it would need to be a video clip. For instance, when I am working on multiple images in Photoshop, I often need many images open at the same time, but I only have one image viewable and active. The hero image is active on screen while I hide the other images in the dock by hitting the yellow - button on the images. Then I "Hide" Photoshop to do something in the Finder. When I go back to Photoshop, every image that is hidden in the dock will pop open again in the active window, not just the image I was currently working on. I want these images to stay in the dock until I need them, no matter how many times I Hide the Show Photoshop.

I have a scenario where I want to bind list attribute from the my bean to two different talbes or iterators.
I want to show this list twice on the page.
If I keep both the tables then it shows only one of it.

Create a Formula Variable on Scheduled DeliveryDate with processing as replacement path, replace variable with InfoObject, replace with Key and use it in the new formula in the columns.
in this way query designer will accept you to use the char as in column,

Scenario is:
We raise A/p Invoice for services provided by vendor,
ex:When the bill amount as 1000.00.
Invoice will be raised for 800.00, and paid, but
Remaining 200.00 will be deducted from the bill as Redemtion deposit (100.00), work control tax(100.00)
and this will be paid to vendor after certain period of time.
We want to show the above scenario in A/P invoice.

Hi Kumar,
This scenerio can be handled by making use of the Freight Screen, In freight create the Freight Items, Redemption Deposit and WCT. Map the respective GL accounts in the AP Column in Freight Window. When you are creating the invoice u can enter the respective amounts in the Freight window with a negative sign.
This should solve your issue.
