[Solved] Can't get netctl working with ethernet/dhcp

I'm trying to use netctl with the example file for dhcp:
Description='A basic dhcp ethernet connection'
Interface=enp0s25
Connection=ethernet
IP=dhcp
## for DHCPv6
#IP6=dhcp
## for IPv6 autoconfiguration
#IP6=stateless
Starting this profile results in:
A dependency job for netctl@ethernet\x2ddhcp.service failed. See 'journalctl -xn' for details.

Note it is saying something about eth0 while ip link is resulting in
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default

Obviously there is no eth0. How can I set things up using the interface name "enp0s25"? By the way using dhcpcd works so there is no problem with the phsyical connection.

I solved the problem by replacing
/etc/systemd/system/netctl\@ethernet\\x2ddhcp.service
.include /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]
[Unit]
Description=A basic dhcp ethernet connection
BindsTo=sys-subsystem-net-devices-eth0.device
After=sys-subsystem-net-devices-eth0.device
with
.include /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]
[Unit]
Description=A basic dhcp ethernet connection
BindsTo=sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp0s25.device
After=sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp0s25.device
I'm not sure whether this is the best way to solve the problem. If somebody knows a better solution it would not hurt to post it here.

  • [SOLVED] Can't get sound working.

    The system has onboard sound (EliteGroup GeForce6100SM-M motherboard) which I am not interested in, instead I would like to use my PCI card (Sound Blaster Live! 5.1), but I cannot get either working. And yes, I've already confirmed I am in the "audio" group, and logged out and in since...
    I get the following during boot:
    [ 4.173534] emu10k1-gp: unable to grab region 0xfdf00020-0xfdf0002f
    [ 5.453359] AC'97 0 access is not valid [0xffffffff], removing mixer.
    Here's what happens when I try setting up ALSA, along with the troubleshooting output as requested on the Arch Wiki's ALSA page:
    $ alsamixer

    I have tried manually loading the appropriate modules, adding the ALSA Wiki's "Setting up modprobe" block o' text to my modprobe.conf, and reinstalling alsa-utils/alsa-oss/linux. EDIT: Disregard, moved the card to my other PCI slot and it works fine now.

  • Canon Pixma MG6120 Wireless printer - can't get to work with AirportExtreme

    Canon Pixma MG6120 Wireless printer - can't install mg6100swin104ejs.exe 64 bit wirelss driver on Windows 7 64bit when printer is registered to 10.0.1.X Airport Extreme. Even if I enable Advanced Port Mapping, Printer Sharing the Canon software doesn't recognize the printer if it is registered wirelessly to the Airport Extreme. Canon senior tech support and Apple senior tech support don't know how to help. Any advice for someone who was able to get a Canon Pixma Printer to work with their Airport Extreme from a Windows 7 64bit PC also connected to 10.0.1.X subnet? Your advice is greatly appreciated. The printer once online is pingable at 10.0.1.9 and I can see SD cards and browse photo's just can't get the Canon software to wirelessly activate/install.

    To print from an iPAD using the Lexmark S300 series,you need to download the LexPrint app from this link: LexPrint
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't get GD working with PHP

    Hi folks -
    I've installed 'gd' which installed its dependencies of libpng, libjpeg and freetype2 with no problems.  I've also enabled the module in the php.ini.  However, I can't get gd to work (trying to get a photo gallery plugin working in Wordpress) ... according to the phpinfo, PHP was built with the gd option.  Also I enabled error logging in the php.ini and I don't see anything in any logs about errors with the gd module.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks for any help!

    the libjpeg.so.7 doesnt exist. i only have /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62 . could this be the problem?
    how would it be possible to fix it?
    seems to be related tho.
    rklingsten: how did you re-install php. so i can try the same. im a debian kind of guy so i end up doing stuff wrong
    Well, yours looks different than mine did ... you said the file libjpeg.so.7 doesn't exist, but it seems that ldd is finding it somehow.  Mine originally said "libjpeg.so.7 => not found"
    After messing with it for awhile, I simply did a pacman -S php and that fixed it which gave me a new PHP gd.so module linked to the updated libjpeg library.

  • I can't get Safari work with Java 7 version 20 any suggestions?

    I can't get the newest version of Java to work with Safari 6.02.   It doesn't recognize it .  Works fine with Firefox.

    If you have Java 7u13 installed in your system, but it isn't working with Safari, you will want to ensure the plugin is properly enabled.
    1.  Under "System Preferences...", you will want to open the Java preferences pane (which will open a new window).  Under the Security tab of the Java prefences pane, ensure "Enable Java content in the browser" is checked.  This will allow Java web content to be used globally (if Java works under Firefox, this is probably already checked).
    2.  Open Safari's Preferences.  Under Security there are four checkboxes grouped under the label "Web content:".  One of them is Java.  Ensure it is checked.
    Be aware that enabling Java in the browser does open you up to any Java vulnerabilities.  Best practices are to only enable Java when you need it, and disable it otherwise.

  • [SOLVED] Can't get grub working on UEFI system

    This is for a friend's computer, he wants to keep his Windows 8 installation and dual-boot with Arch.  I installed Arch and followed the wiki to set up GRUB.  Now there is an option for grub in the boot menu, but when I touch it it boots Windows instead of opening GRUB.
    I've never worked with UEFI before, any idea how to go about diagnosing this?

    It can happen with early v2 firmwares, too. (e.g. mine.) And the v1 shell doesn't support the command.
    If the computer came with a Windows 8 sticker and is x86 architecture, it certainly ought to be able to disable Secure Boot as this is a requirement MS imposes on OEMs who want to use that sticker on their machines. Have you checked to see if there's a firmware update available?
    The author of rEFInd has a site which I believe includes instructions for different approaches to dealing with Secure Boot.
    EDIT: I don't agree that posts #6-8 are off-topic. I don't think that aspect should be pursued further but if a user comes along and asks "how do I make my own user own the contents of /bin?' it is not off-topic to respond by pointing out that the user ought not be trying to do that. I think it is wrong to install Arch for somebody who could not install it for themselves, and while I could not comment at all, I could not have posted the second part of #6 without posting the first part. This, however, definitely is off-topic.

  • Can't get networkmanager working with openvpn (using static key)

    I'm trying to configure networkmanager to open up my VPN connection - using the static/preshared key method - but no dice.  (Although I'm able to connect just fine using openvpn from the command line)  Anyone been able to get this to work and/or have some suggestions?

  • Can't get ATV working with Onkyo TX-SR605-URGENT ASSISTANCE NEEDED!!

    I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some advice, as I've now spent way too much time trying to figure out what's going wrong. I've just purchased the Onkyo receiver, which in itself is an extremely daunting piece of equipment after my very straightforward Rotel stereo amp!
    I have only 1 HDMI connection available on my 32" Panasonic LCD TV & have, to date, had my ATV connected to it. With my ATV also connected to my amp (via RCA cable), I've been happily viewing/listening to all my iTunes content this way. I understand from reading elsewhere in this forum that I should be able to maintain my HDMI connection to ATV, connect into the receiver using optical, and by so doing, obtain the same results (if not better, thanks to the optical connection) as was previously the case. So far, I've been unable to do this. The only way I've been able to get any audio happening through the speakers is by reconnecting the RCA cable. The optical cable I purchased by the way is a good quality one so I doubt this is where the problem lies - although I guess it's possible.
    The 1st problem I encountered when endeavouring to set the system up was that I was unable to get any onscreen information, as I couldn't find an AV input that responded to the receiver's 'setup instructions'. I assumed this would come via the TV's HDMI AV option, given the ATV is the means of connecting to the TV & that's connected via HDMI, but no joy. However, I did some of the basic setup w/o the onscreen visuals, and proceeded to see if I could access my iTunes content with the connections I referred to earlier. As I said before ... no go w/o the RCA cable connected and even then, no sound through the speakers if I reverted to just watching the TV.
    I'm driving myself crazy here, and am now at the point where I can see no value in continuing to read & re-read the Onkyo manual. Although I can accept that it's likely to take me some time to learn how to properly drive this beast and get the most out of it, I don't think (from what I've read elsewhere here) that it should be this hard to get what I'm wanting up and running.
    Please HELP and save my sanity!
    [Thanks in advance to anyone who comes to the rescue ]

    jrmccoy, thank you so much! I have never used an optical connection until now, & so was not aware of the necessity to get the 'snap' happening in order to get a good connection. With some trepidation, I applied the required force to the connection to the ATV - sure enough, it 'snapped' in. I tried to get the receiver connection to snap as well, but had no luck there - it seems to be a very 'sloppy' rather than tight connection that slips out with very little effort. However, after pushing really hard on the cable & getting no better connection, I gave up & tried it as was. The result was that , yipee, I now have it all working as I'd anticipated it should. The only thing I still don't have, is the TV sound coming through the speakers - I thought that with the ATV providing the conduit between the TV & the receiver, I wouldn't need any other connection from the receiver to the TV. I suspect now that that was an incorrect assumption! Thought it was all a bit too easy ... sigh.
    Once again Apple Discussions have come to my rescue - I honestly don't know what I'd do without the assistance of all you generous people out there with so much & such wide-ranging knowledge!

  • Can't get CF working with IIS6 on W2k3 sp2

    Hi
    I really have no idea how many times I have had no problems
    getting CF and
    IIS playing nice with each other: dozens and dozens of times.
    Prior to
    today, the last time I had a problem was back in the latter
    days of
    CFMX6.0.
    Today I am faced with a new Windows 2003 (Enterprise, I
    think) server
    running the latest patch level of the OS, and a fresh install
    of CFMX7.0.2.
    Using the inbuilt JRun webserver, CF works fine. Using IIS
    for serving
    HTML pages works fine (with a caveat, see below). Using IIS
    with CF and
    browsing *on the server itself*, works fine. As soon as I'm
    off the
    server's local network: I just get a 401.3 error.
    I understand the purported cause of the error. However all
    the releavnt
    resources I can think of have "full control" set for:
    - authenticated users
    - everyone
    - local system
    - the login a/c that IIS is using.
    I have set these to cascade down the entire webroot subtree,
    as well as the
    entire JRun4 dir subtree. This is a gross overkill, I know,
    but it's the
    point at which I've got to with "troubleshooting" this.
    NB the caveat I alluded to above: HTML pages STOP serving
    externally if I
    install the JRun connector. And start again if I remove it
    (with no other
    adjustment).
    I've googled about the place, wracked my brains, and waved my
    fist at the
    screen whilst pulling unpleasant and threatening faces at the
    monitor.
    None of this has worked.
    So my question is this: what sort of animal am I supposed to
    sacrifice, in
    order for this to work? In qhat quantities? Is there any
    specific way in
    which I effect the sacrifice, or is simply performing the
    killing enough?
    Are there any rituals or chants I am supposed to engage in
    whilst doing all
    this? Time of day?
    Thanks for any insight or special juju.
    Adam

    Cheers Ted.
    I decided "peacocks" were probably the correct sort of beast
    to sacrifice, and decided as long as my feng shui was all aligned
    nicely (it is. It *always* is), I probably did not need to any
    rituals, provided I recited some Henry Rollins spoken word for good
    measure.
    And I also tried setting some permissions on the IIS_WPG
    user... not the ones you said exactly, but slightly more broad
    ones, and it seems to have worked.
    We'll never know if it was the peacocks or the permissions,
    though. Or the Rollins.

    Initially I can get my WRE54G expander working fine - I turn off WEP on my router, auto-configure the expander and no problems. I can connect to the wireless network from my iMac, located at the opposite end of the house from my router, through the expander with a strong signal, works fine.
    But when I try turning on WEP (first on the expander, then the router), I can no longer make a connection - the iMac picks up the weak signal from the router and refuses to connect to the expander plugged in right next to it. I can even point my browser to 192.168.1.240 and access the expander's setting page (so it's on the network), but I can't connect *through* the expander. Any ideas, this is driving me nuts.
    Router: Linksys WRT54G, firmware v1.00.9 May 12 2006
    Expander: Linksys WRE54G, firmware v2.01.12 Mar 30 2005
    ie latest firmware for both.
    Another thing, whenever I change settings on the expander through the web page, the connection to the expander always seems to timeout, but next time I go into the page the new setting has taken just fine. Annoying, but minor compared to the other problem -

    The part about timing out is common, you are changing settings on the device and as soon as you save it the expander refreshes itself automatically.
    About the iMac, did you perchance enabled 64bit WEP? If so, put a "$" first before typing in the wep key on the iMac when you try to connect to the network or when it asks for it. (ie. $123467890)

  • [solved]Can't get IP address with DHCP over wifi

    I try to connect my laptop to a network via wifi (WPA). I'm connected and the router also says that there is a computer connected to wifi. But then DHCP time out. The ethernet connection is working fine and I have no problem to get an IP address with it. I have no idea what is wrong...

    Ok it was in fact my fault. I did configure iwconfig like with a WEP connection, and it was WPA... Strangely it was not rejected, so I assumed it was connected...

    thats from your link. and thats what mine does not have
    Indeed.  And right below that in the Note :
    If you don't see all the mechanisms as pointed out in this HOWTO it means that you didn't install or compile all the SASL mechanisms. Please make sure that you have at least the following as we are going to need them in the HOWTO: PLAIN LOGIN
    And directly below that...
    Since we use PLAIN as mechanism we will have to pass our credentials plaintext. But hold, the credentials must be Base64 encoded,...
    The way i read all that, SASL only *requires* AUTH PLAIN, but if additional mechanisms are available it may also use them.  So it looks to me like SASL is working, as far as it can, given the options it was installed/compiled/configured with.
    I'm not trying to be difficult or obtuse, but you haven't said specifically which mechanism you want to use, only that you want SASL to work.  And given what I've read it is, but only with PLAIN AUTH.  If you need the additional SASL mechanisms, I'd check which the sasl package was built with.
    Oh, wait....You're limiting which ones will be used with the "mech_list:" line in smtpd.conf.  If you want to use something else, you at least need to add it there.
