[SOLVED]Front SD slot doesn't mount

I have an HP a6600f. Specs and other documents here. Everything works great in Arch, with the exception of the front SD slot. It's basically a slot that SD/SDHC cards go into. I'm running latest Arch and KDE, and though the light turns on on the front of the computer when I plug an SD card in, KDE shows "No devices plugged in" on the device manager.
EDIT : Err.. I wasn't very clear on what I wanted sorry, how can I mount this sucker? It's ok if it doesn't Auto-mount in KDE, but I need to access it somehow.

  • Leopard doesn't mount the disk with time machine backup!

Hi friends. It's my first time in this forum, and I'm sorry by now for my poor english.
My problem: One week ago I had some problem with hard disk, but after a visit to an Apple center and after a replacement of my disk the problem was solved.
Now I want to restore all my file and my system preference from an external hard disk (USB LaCie 500GB) when have made a complete backup with time machine.
But Leopard doesn't mount the disk in finder or in Utility Disco. I see it only in System Profiler. I try with my old iBook with Tiger and it mount correctly the disk! It's amazing! Please Help me, I need my file on my iMac for work!
    Thanks and merry Christmas!!!

Similar thing for me as well. I however haven't made a backup using Time Machine.
In preparation for Leopard, I reformatted my laptop's hard drive and installed Mac OS X 10.5.1 fresh. As soon as I plugged in my trusty 500GB external WD MyBook Pro (trying both Firewire 400 and 800 on my MacBook Pro 17"), I get the following alert:
    "Disk Repair
The disk "500GB" was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. you must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible. OK"
Keep in mind, I run Disk Utility and "Repair Disk" and "Repair Permissions" religiously every week and have had no issues while running under Mac OS X 10.4.11. My other laptop running the 10.4.11 doesn't report any issues with the drive at all - only when I plug it into this one running 10.5.1.
Is there a firmware update for this drive? Is this Apple's issue? I have another LaCie Firewire drive and it works flawlessly even under 10.5.1.
Right now, I can't even use the drive as it's Read Only (due to the error).
    In system logs:
    Feb 9 19:02:59 Cam diskarbitrationd69: unable to repair /dev/disk4s3 (status code 0x00000008).

The drive is reported to be "Ok" when running Disk Repair on other machines not running Leopard. As a test, I just "upgraded" my wife's laptop to Leopard and now I have the same issue on that machine.
    Help.

Hi, I have a freecom 1TB hard drive which was working fine until it froze.  I pulled it out (mistake I now know) and now it doesn't mount.  It shows up in Disk Utility but won't manually mount.  When I try to repair it gives message 'failed on exit'. Some people have said to try Disk Warrior, but at $100 it's quite expensive maybe fix.  help!

You likely need to reformat the drive which will destroy all data and you need a backup to restore it. If no backup is present then a data retrieval service can be more expensive than DiskWarrior. There is software that can rescue the data but I can not vouch for it's effectiveness as I have always maintained backups. .

  • 4g ipod doesn't mount

So one day when I was listening to my Ipod, it abruptly freezes and brought up the folder icon with an exclamation point. I went through the support section of this site and tried to follow the instructions but it doesn't work.
When I open the Ipod Updater, the application informs me that the "Ipod doesn't mount." I also tried reinstalling Itunes but that didn't seem to work either. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
I would really like to know what if there's anything I can do to fix this.
      Windows XP

    Uh Oh.
That icon is definitely not one you want to see. It sounds like you tried all the suggestions on the support site, yes? And I do mean everything, no matter how far out it sounds.
Cross your fingers and try everything again, including entering the Diagnostics mode (you'll need to google that, I believe) and running a disc test.
Often when nothing seems to work, that icon indicates the drive is on its way out. But do make sure you've tried everything (from the most basic reset through a disc diagnosis) before you dispair. I've picked up more than a few iPods with that display and have been able to get them going by resets or more invasive surgery
One of the easier things I've done is to plug the thing into a wall socket and reset it while it's hooked up like that. Not having a computer try to get at it while its booting can sometimes shakew things loose.

  • HDD doesn't mount and doesn't repair

    Hello support,
I am in big trouble I think:
My second internal HDD doesn't mount and is useless right now.
I did data recovery with Techtool onto an external drive and first of all everything looked good because the files were produced with their right sixes. When it was all done though, opening one of those files produced the line: "document could not be read. the document does not have a valid format".
Do you have any advice to give me?
    Thank you

Hi danpa, and a warm welcome to the forums!
There' another you might try too, FileSalvage is an extremely powerful Macintosh application for exploring and recovering deleted files from a drive or volume. FileSalvage is designed to restore files that have:
        * been accidentally deleted.
        * become unreadable due to media faults.
        * been stored on a drive before it was re-initialized/formatted.

And of course I'd be Remiss if I didn't mention DiskWarrior though, and it's Scavenge function.

  • Xsan Doesn't Mount One of the Volumes

    Hi,
We have two volumes on Xsan. When we mount it, one of the volumes doesn't show up. But it did yesterday.
We have one MDC and one client. We have a raid storage through fiber. The problem started after we have restarted the storage which was not responding.
Everything is alright on the storage side. Both MDC and the client can detect the Xsan's Luns when I check it on disk utility, and on terminal "diskutil list" command.
On Xsan Admin, volumes, Luns, seems alright. I don't get any errors when mounting.
    I can't see the volume in /Volumes.
I have tried full system shutdown and powerin up in a proper order several times.
    I haven't renamed volumes.
I can see both volumes on cvadmin.
The same problem occurs on both MDC and the client.
I have tried replacing the_not_mounting_volume.cfg file from my backup files.
There is no fiber switch in the between.
There is only MDC and client machines on the network.
I have tried flushing dns also.
I see "vote call for FSS inhibited" logs for the volume in the log files.
Actually nothing has changed in the system. Even a single line of configuration.
I have been digging internet for the last 6 hours, but couldn't find anything helping.
    Regards
    C.

I can mount/unmount the volume manually using "xsanctl mount/unmount volume_name" command. For some reason, it doesn't mount it through the Xsan Admin GUI.
Does anyone have any idea about that?

  • Mac OS X doesn't mount dvd's

    Hi,
Since this afternoon, Mac OS X doesn't mount my dvd's when I insert them into my computer or external dvd-writer. You can hear the cd spinning, but it doesn't come up onto my desktop. I've checked the dvd button at finder preferences, "view this items on desktop". I'm sure it is not a hardware problem, because I can use the dvd's with bootcamp. The only dvd's that mount are the Mac OS X install dvd's delivered with my Mac Mini.
I've tried the following things for so far:
    -repaired permissions
    - installed combo update 10.4.9 again
    - reboot several times
    - runned an Apple Hardware test
Can anybody help me with this problem?
Mac Mini (Late 2006)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi,
Since this is something that just started happening out of the blue, I'm inclined to think the optical drive might need repair. Do you have an Apple store or an Apple reseller nearby? Also, this may seem absurd, but cleaning your DVDs can make a huge difference. Hold a CD or DVD from the center with your thumb on the outside edge. Now take a clean soft cloth and wipe from the inside out. Never wipe around in circles. It certainly can't hurt to try.
And just in case ...Open a Finder window to see if the disc appears there. If it does, your Finder preferences are set not to show CDs and DVDs on the desktop.
To change this setting, choose Finder > Preferences, click General, and select the "CDs, DVDs, and iPods" checkbox.
Check your CD & DVD preferences by choosing Apple menu > System Preferences and clicking CDs & DVDs. If you've set the computer to ignore a CD or DVD when it's inserted, you won't see your disc on the desktop or in a Finder window. Change the appropriate setting to open the Finder when a disc is inserted.

  • Qosmio F50-10z' s front operation panel doesn't work

My front operation panel doesn't work. I have tried to recovery my computer and reinstall the VAP but it still doesnt work.
    I want to why...

    Hi!
What do you mean with if it doesnt work?
If you try to install a newer version of Toshiba Value Added Package you should remove the old version first. Reboot the notebook and install the newer one.
Last but not least try to update the BIOS. You can find it on the Toshiba website:

  • I bought a MSI Z77A-G43 and 1st PCIE(3.0 I guess) slot doesn't work?

I bought a MSI Z77A-G43 and 1st PCIE (3.0 I guess) slot doesn't work? I mean when I put my gf card in it , my screen wont start. BUt when I put it to other blue Pcie (2.0 I guess) it works. What will be the reason? Do I need to do anything in bios ?

I had a similar situation recently.
1.) Check the cpu/ socket for damage
2.) Remove the mobo and make sure there are no extra stand off's under the board.
3.) Check the pci/e slot for obstruciton or debris
Other than that it's probably going to be an rma issue.

  • MacBook drive doesn't mount, can I just replace it?

    Hi,
I'm responsible for admin-ing a small Mac network here at a start up business, and I've had a problem with one of our user's MacBooks.
The machine booted to the Grey Question Mark Screen, which obviously wasn't good. I've done the PRAM, and attempted a reboot, with the same problem. The machine will load the Leopard Installer DVD, but will not install as it can't find the disk, same goes for Single User mode, which doesn't mount the drive.
    My question is simply:
Am I correct in assuming swapping in a new drive will make the machine function fully? Can I assume the logic board works fine as it boots/loads other bits and pieces?
    Any help would be great!
    Many thanks,
    Oli

Am I correct in assuming swapping in a new drive will make the machine function fully?
Maybe. It's most probably that it's the drive that's failed, but it's by no means the only possibility.
Can I assume the logic board works fine as it boots/loads other bits and pieces?
Not really, no. It's possible that the SATA interface on the logic board has failed. That would still allow the system to boot from a DVD, but keep it from accessing the hard drive.
If it were me, I would assume first that it was the drive that had failed, but I'd suggest either calling Apple tech support (presuming that the system is still under warranty) and getting their opinion, or taking the unit to an Apple Store or authorized service center. Then if the drive isn't the problem after all, you're not on the hook for a drive that you didn't need. Of course if it's out of warranty, then it's your call as to what to try. Perhaps you could find a friendly service center that could pop a drive into the system just to test and confirm that the problem is indeed the drive, before making you buy a replacement.

  • External HD doesn't mount

    Hi!
I have a replacement Ultramax HDD terabyte external drive that doesn't mount when I plug it in or when I start/restart. I've followed Dale Weisshaar's suggestions for a related post, including repairing disc permissions, updating to most recent sw (10.5.4) and resetting FW ports by disconnecting and powering down.
The external unit is spinning and has power, but does not appear in Disc Utility.
In the interval since the power cord and controller on the original teradrive crashed, I've gone 35 days without backup of medically important data. Can someone offer thoughts, please?
    Thanks for the help.

Just to let everybody know that P-RAM reset resolved this problem.

  • Hi there! yesterday I installed Mavericks on my Macbook. Since then, it doesn't mount my external hard disk drive anymore, which he did a week ago (without the update). Is there anyone out there who knows a solution?

Hi there! Yesterday, I installed Mavericks on my Macbook. Since then, it doesn't recognize my external hard disk drive anymore (at least not on the desktop. In Germany they call it "it doens't mount it". I don't know if it's the same expression in english?)
I just used it a week ago, before I did the update and it worked perfectly fine.
Is there anyone out there who knows a solution for this problem? I've been googleing for hours now and can't find any answer.
    Thank you!!!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Doesn't mount files- Restart computer and properties aren't saved-no songs

Okay so my computer has been acting crazy lately.
    its a powerbook G4 1.5ghz 17" running on os x .4.8
There are times when I restart my computer, everything seems to be lost. The mail has lost its properties. I have to put the email back again with the pop and stmp servers as well. I tunes loses the songs (although theyare saved on SONGS) they don't show up on itunes. Everytime I download something a dmg file...When i double click on the just downloaded file...it won't mount. REASON NOT RECOGNIZED it says. I have stuffit but yet it won't work...i used to have the icons on the bar getting bigger when the arrow was close to 'em Now it doesn't do it. I did some research and heard that the new airport update 4.2 is what could create all this. I put os x dvd on and reinstalled osx. I did the updates with everything but the airport update...same thing is happening...its driving me crazy because i have a presantation "Powerpoint" due tomorrow I need to work on and I started it yesterday now its saying the file is corrupted. I can't even download Boomerang back up data because it won't mount...I'm going to pick up my PC Desktop from home tonight and come back to the dorms to finish the project...Anyone can help?
I'm getting frustrated with macs now especially knowing Its only the intel processors that can run windows to the fullest(with bootcamp)..models that came out right after i bought mine...
Nice commercials though..-PC Ur coming to a sad realization, Cancel or Allow...More like mac should re-thinking about that..having thousands of 1.6ghz PB failure with their logicboards. Not mantioning the 1.5ghz PB inverter board failures.

Hi, jorgengun. Try running the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with your Powerbook, and see whether it reports any problem with your FireWire controller or port. It's possible that your port has gone bad, in which case the timing was probably just coincidental — it's unlikely that anything that happened on the PC could have caused your Powerbook's port to be damaged.
If you don't have Apple Hardware Test, a TechTool Pro or TechTool Deluxe CD has similar hardware testing abilities. (TTD was supplied by Apple to the purchasers of AppleCare Extended Protection plans, and is not available otherwise as far as I know. TTP is a commercial product.)
If you don't have any of the above, and all of the devices that no longer work when connected to the port did indeed work in the past, take the Powerbook to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store, or to a local Apple dealership, and have the port tested.
A bad port would necessitate one of two things: a logic board replacement, or the purchase of a CardBus-slot Firewire card.

  • FireWire devices doesn't mount nor are recognized by OSX

A known issue but with several solucions posted but nothing seems to help me out...
Something is wrong with the FireWire of my Powerbook G4 667 MHz. External harddrives as soundcards as iPods as anything with a FireWire interface won't mount. However, it seems that the devices are getting electricity, Ipods charge for example. But doesn't appear on the desktop. Nor in the System Profiler. Disk Utility doesn't "see" the drives either. I have been trying with reseting the computer, the VRAM and the VPRAM. Also taken out the battery and left the computer alone for a while. No results. And of course, I have been searching the forums and diskussions like crazy but haven't found a solution.
Anyone who can give me some leads about what I can do next? A clue in this mystery is that I used a Pocketdrive to move files in between the Mac and a PC. I worked fine for 10 times or so, but then suddenly the Mac didn't mount it. First I thought that it was just that harddrive that had some problems (from the PC, I might haven't emptied the trashbin the last time I disconnected it from the PC) but then I realized that no FireWire deviced worked any longer.
    Thanks in advance
