[SOLVED] Java causing startup issues

Recently I tried to install intellij and since than have had a bunch of Java issues.  After uninstalling intellij and java (since it required jdk and I already had openjdk installed), then reinstalling openjdk the both the mysql and dropbox daemon fail loading.  If I uninstall Java everything is good again.  After having issues with intellij I tried to install Eclipse which also failed.
Any ideas how I can get Java installed without everything else failing.

I think the issue was due to running out of space in my root partition.  After freeing up some space and re-installing openjdk6 everything started up fine on boot.

  • [Solved] Black screen - Installation issues on Dell Inspiron 1720

    Hi,
I'm new to Archlinux, and i want to post my experience/issues of my first installation:
I performance the core installation (base + devel packages and wireless tools as extra package)
    relevant hardware/drivers used:
    b44 for broadcom nic (wired)
    iwl3945 for my wireless nic
intel g965 graphics card (intel GM965 express chipset - xf86-video-intel driver)
Installation went ok till i had to upgrade the system:
    pacman -Suy (after package synchronization)
    glibc: /usr/bin/tzselect exists in filesystem
    glibc: /usr/sbin/zdump exists in filesystem
    glibc: /usr/sbin/zic exists in filesystem
After some research on the wiki i found that i had to query the packages to know if those files are owned by a program or not (if no pakcage owns those i could remove them, but it was not the case)
    pacman -Qo tzselect
    pacman -Qo zdump
    pacman -Qo zic
All were owned by the package tzdata:
so i reinstalled the package tzdata:
    pacman -S tzdata
Has this to be filed as a bug or is this a stupid newbie error? (did the installation on a virtual machine, on a laptop (twice) and always got this error)
After that i was able to upgrade the system.
Following that i installed the video card drivers:
pacman -S xf86-video-intel and i rebooted the system.
After reboot i got the grub screen, booted the system and got a black screen (last thing i saw as something like loading udevevents..)
Googling again and looking the forums here, i read that i had to chroot my environment and update the system again (pacman -Suy -> which did not help).
Soo after some more searching i found 2 things:
    - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KM … odesetting  : i added this in menu.lst: nomodeset
    - i blacklisted the intel driver
Rebooted and i my graphics were working again.
So later on i'll test if the parameter solved my problem, or blacklisting the driver.
    - i'll unblacklist the driver and reboot -> if it works then i know it's that parameter
    - if not ok, i'll blacklist the driver and remove the parameter from the menu.lst
I hope to find what's causing the issue.
Anyone having issues with the intel driver?
    Thanks for sharing your experience/info.

Getting a little bit further, it requires a lot of configuration to get what you want..
    - I just installed fluxbox
    - added my user to the sudo group (allowing to reboot)
    - installed Slim
What's i've noticed also is that when you select an interface in etc/rc.conf, for example, eth0, and it's not connected at bootup, you lose like 10 seconds before the boot process proceeds.
If you out-comment that line, you get a red line (error) saying that no interface is definded.
I guess i'll just have to disable the network daemon at startup and install some kind of network connection manager for my wireless at logon.

  • Error message is not telling which field causing the issue!

    Hello
I am developing the Adobe Interactive Form and launching this form from WebDynPro ABAP application, fine.
This form has tonns of dropdown fields, mandatory fields, greyed out fields. Fine.
I am filling the list the drop-down fields from webdynpro ABAP, but, i am filling list for only 80% of the drop-down fields, rest 20 % is not filling at all (bcz, business want to have those 20% dropd-owns on the form by thinking going further they require, this moment they dont need so they dont want to fill the lists)
Now the form is launching on the browser, fine. But when user submits it i am getting the below erro:
The Entered Value Is Not on the List of Valid Values.  (I am guessing this error is talking about the DROPDOWN fields only)
I hv tonns of drop-down fields, so, its very difficult for me to go and trace each and every drop-down fielld!! But, i checked all the populated/entered values in the drop-down fields, they are all fine. Sone dropd-down fields are GREYED OUT, they are defaulted from webdynpro ABAP
Pls. let me know How can know which field/drop-down is causing this issue? Wht are the possible causes for this error? Error is not telling which fields is making issue?
How can i trace and how can i fix it, pls. let me know
    Thank you

    Thank you for your tips.
But, as of my knowledge every thing (case sensitive, list box entries) are fine, not sure, why am getting this error! I will double chk again.
But, thing is.... actually, i have 4 pages, depending on the logged in user, i will HIDE the pages (say, for me the 3 rd page will be hidden), i am hiding the pages by using JavaScript in the form.
So, this error is not coming if i execute/launch all the 4 pages, but, its coming if i hide any page for any user!!
By chance, do we debug to figure out which FIELD is CAUSING issue/this error?
From where this message is coming, i mean, from the SAP's JAVA stack? Wht is the message ID and #?
    or is it Adobe's/Form's error?
    Thank you

  • My macbook pro keeps freezing and shutting off when I am browsing the web on Safari.  How can I figure out what is causing this issue?

For the past few weeks my computer will slow down when I have been on Safari for awhile, then freeze, and then just go black.  I have to press the power button and then it goes to a black screen with the apple logo and a loading bar underneath when it reboots.  I'm not sure what is causing the issue, but on my previous mac it would have an error message if something like this happened that I could submit.  Any suggestions of where to start to solve this issue?
    Thanks!

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

    thank you very much!

Solutions: Bounce the applications and check the arguments if you can increase it.  It is due to memory issue
You can set these values in CommEnv.sh (.cmd for windows) file located in the weblogic_home/common/bin directory.
This gets applied to all the domains under that wls home.
If you want to make the changes to specific domain then edit the SetDomainEnv.sh file located under the domain/bin directory.

  • [SOLVED] Compositing causes screen to freeze in KDE 4.7 with Nouveau

    Hello,
since the upgrade to KDE 4.7 screen gets [partial] freezes for several seconds (differs) especialy when some repainting is to be done (scrolling in Rekonq/KWrite, opening and closing tabs in Rekonq, playing video in KDE). Usually I can stil see moving the mouse, though the cursor doesn't change on links etc. Also repainting of plasma widgets freezes.
I'm using nouvea driver for 7600 GS video card:
    multilib/lib32-nouveau-dri 7.11-1
    extra/nouveau-dri 7.11-1
    extra/nouveau-firmware 20091212-4
    extra/xf86-video-nouveau 0.0.16_git20110726-1
And get foloving in dmesg after a freeze:
[43244.176746] [drm] nouveau 0000:04:00.0: vm flush timeout: 0x00000022
    and in xorg.log:
[ 43235.667] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
Everything is ok with disabled compositing, or with nvidia driver, thogh I do not prefer to use it since it lacks KMS and is proprietary.
Any idea which splendid new feature of KDE 4.7 causes this? And how to turn it off so I can use compositing again? I tried diasbling new GL 2.0 shaders and setting worser filter in advanced Plasma settings but it didn't help.
I'll happily provide more info, if I am pointed which one.
    Thank you.

3-D is currently an unsupported use-at-your-own-risk feature in nouveau. That leads me to conclude that neither project (kwin or nouveau) can be blamed at the moment.
I had irrecoverable freezes (had to ssh in and reboot) on my 9800 GT while playing videos fullscreen. Turning off the option to disable 3-D for full screen applications solved that problem for me. Compared to that, I'm okay with the temporary one-second freezes (which I see as well).
Your best bet is to play around and isolate which effects cause the issues for you. Start with no desktop effects checked and work your way up, adding one effect at a time. Maybe you'll discover the culprit that way. Hope that helps.

  • Application freezing and StartUp issues

My PB Titanium, 15", 550 Mhz freezes randomly: when it happens I can only force the Shut Down; afterwards the computer won't startup: I can see the gray screen with the spinning gear and that's all.
I erased the disk and re installed the System (OS X 10.3.9), but now I have the same problems.
I run the apple hardware test and the HW seems to be ok.
Disk Utilities found that the disk is OK. Tech Tool Pro 4.0.4 e-drive found two bad blocks. Otherwise, mounting the volume as external Firewire disk, the bad blocks were not found by Tech Tool Pro.
I have already tried the PRAM and PMU reset.
I don't know what else I can do....

    Hi vivi,
Given that your PB boots fine to these others disks, it's quite possible you have a software issue.
    Have you run Background Maintenance?
Also, how much free space do you have available on your HD? If it's anything under 4GB, this may be causing your issues.
Have you repaired permissions while booted normally from your HD? (not from the install disk)
the Power Button zone become very very hot after a while, and the fan is often spinning.
That's where your power adapter plugs in. Later model TiBooks actually added another fan there to cool things down more, but prior to the 800MHz, none of the TiBooks have this second fan.
Do you think that this is the problem?
It's normal for this area to become warm while the power adapter is plugged in, especially when it's charging the batt. However, if it's suddenly getting much warmer than it ever did before, then something must have changed.
What is the condition of your battery/how long will your PB run from the batt?
How can I know if the cooling system is working correctly?
Your PB has one fan, for the CPU, centered at the rear. There is no test for it, but when you run CPU intensive applications, it should run after awhile. Try opening iTunes and running Visualizer (turn it on from the Visualizer menu) for 10 minutes or more. This makes my CPU fan kick in every time. If you can't hear the fan due to other background noise, hold a flimsy piece of paper by the vent in the rear of your PB and see if air is being pushed out by the fan.
One other thing you may want to try is to quit all apps and open Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and see if any processes are using a significant amount of your CPU which is causing things to heat up.

    Hi,
I have written a Java code that invokes a stored Procedure. I want to use this piece of code in my ALSB 3.0 through Proxy Service Action(Java Callout). This code works fins when I run it as a Standalone Program.
But when I use this in Java Callout I face an issue. The code runs smoothly till the creation of the Callable Statement.*But after that the Statemant object turns out to be null.*

  • CE 7.1 SR3 installation/startup issue -  enserver shuts down

I'm trying to work with the CE 7.1 SR3 and I'm hitting a startup problem.
When the server is being started, from both the installation process (installation completes without falling over) and  when starting from within the SAPMMC I get an error message that windows displays.
"enserver.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. etc..."
The above message will be displayed a number of times and then within the SAPMMC the "enserver.EXE" will stop (turn gray).  I have tried uninstalling and starting again, but get the same errors.
    Any help would be great...

  • Wup.sys / startup issue w/ Windows 2000

I've been running iTunes on my laptop for years. I'm shifting to a desktop, with a much larger hard drive, so I convert my CD collection (and shop more at the iTunes store, heh).
But when I install iTunes, startup hangs about 75% of the way across the blue/white status bar (above the "t" in Microsoft). Using F8 for command line startup, startup freezes just after "wup.sys". Many many many forums discuss purported wup.sys problems (including incompatability with USB, iTunes, and more), with the only conclusion being that wup.sys is simply the last thing to load before the registry, and that anything that upset the registry would cause startup to freeze when the registry loads.
Soooo... I can use "last known good configuration" (LKGC) to get back into Windows. I can then successfully uninstall iTunes, although that's not necessary - startup proceeds on the LKGC without a hitch. But the LKGC misses the registry settings that iTunes made. And if I run (rather than uninstalling) iTunes, I get a warning that the registry settings for importing and burning CDs aren't there and that I need to reinstall iTunes. Doing so only reintroduces the mysterious startup freeze so oft associated with (and blamed on) wup.sys. Doing LKGC again, I can run iTunes, with apparently full functionality except for importing and burning - which I haven't tried, but am timid about without further advice.
Given the hundreds of posts, and dozens of forums, mentioning wup, many of them citing iTunes, surely I'm not the only one with this problem. And yet, despite hours of googling, off and on over the course of three weeks, I ain't found an answer.
(BTW, yes, I have the updated Windows install engine, Service Pack 4, newest version of iTunes, Windows Update runs daily, logging in as administrator, disabling virus-protection and closing all other programs, etc etc.)
    Thanks,
    Ellis

Woo-hoot/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png It wouldnt have occurred to me that installing those drivers separately was possible, much less safe - but IT WORKED/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
iTunes started and ran fine (no warning about registry issues for ripping/burning), and reboot went fine (no hanging, no errors).
I guess that means that the drivers (and related registry settings) themselves aren't the issue (i can rip and burn fine now), just the way they're implemented in the iTunes install executable?
I did get an "A specified file, path, or program could not be found." warning at startup the first time, but with nothing in the dialog box's header or body to indicate what it's talking about, and no discernable effects, good or bad; and it only happened once - but I'll mention it here for the record, in case this word-around introduced something incomplete and/or in case someone reworks the iTunes installer.
THANK YOU/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Now, someone please relay this to the installer team. Something ain't right with it, and lots of folks could benefit by this fix - and there are almost certainly other people who gave up on iTunes or (worse) their computers when they encountered this issue.

  • Another startup-issue

I have a problem with system startup. My MacBook is pretty much brand new and the system is not cluttered or anything. And still the startup-process freezes even before the apple logo appears, so I just get the grey screen and that's it. I have read about other startup issues, but in those cases the computer at least booted until the apple logo was shown, so my case is slightly different.
After unplugging my external USB hard drive startup works. It also works when I plug it into the other USB-slot. Other devices plugged into the problematic slot (keyboard, USB-stick) work and do not cause problems during startup.
Any experiences with this problem? Would you say the USB-slot is broken in any way? Is it something that can be fixed?
Ordinarily, I would just use the other slot and be done with it. Since the computer is brand new, however, I'd prefer to be on the safe side.
    Thanks in advance,
    Timo

    Hi
+"Would you say the USB-slot is broken in any way?"+
Possibly? Running an Apple Hardware Test might say?
+"Is it something that can be fixed?"+
Yes. It should be covered under the standard 1 year warranty regardless. Provided the fault is not down to wilful or accidental damage it will be covered under the warranty.
You could connect the external USB hard drive in the affected slot an restart the mac in verbose mode (command+v) at restart. This should display error messages - if any - at the point where the start-up stalls. Possibly giving a clue as to what it's having a problem with? You may see an I/OKit error problem or something similar?

“I love my Mac!”, that is a common expression you might hear everyday, but not many people are willing to admit that Macs really suck and become a nightmare the moment you plug a hard drive, new or filled with those important files, via USB. Apparently most commercial backup hard drives are formatted with Windows file systems by default and Macs will only be able to read the contents of these discs after properly formatting them on Mac.
I have 3 external hard drives filled with mp4 movies and uni files, and formatting is absolutely a no-no here. So I was forced to open those files using the Windows virtual machine (via Parallel) in my Mac, which really ***** too. According to the many websites I visited for solution, you either had to buy some apps or die with that NTFS-#G error message when plugging a USB hard drive. There is also an encouragement to either format the drives on Mac before you can use, and again, in my case, this is impossible.
“NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1 at /Volumes/Vuakalevu because the following problem occurred: dyld:
Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libfuse.2.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g
    Reason: image not found”
I think I just solved that issue once and for all, but nothing comes for free, as in anything with Mac computers. The “Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX”, which cost me $19.99 from their official website seems to have sorted me out, now I can plug any hard drive, no matter the format, and Maverick will read it as it should (read and write). Well worth it, and i do recommend it.
This was originally posted in my website, so feel free to come around if you like.

Hi Linc Davis, yep! i did everything according to read me, tried all free ones, only made it worse. uninstalled the whole lot, didnt work either. I read around in forums the same thing "simply remove the app causing this issue and it will be sorted" didnt work for me. this Paragon sorted me out after 2 years of external hard drive issues. Im not sure if your reply was an assertion or a question though. cheers

  • Java Win XP issues

I created some java applications and applets a couple of years back during a course I was doing at the time. I went to show someone the work I had done and for some reason it no longer works. I have java 1.4.1 installed which used to work fine but all of a sudden it no longer does. When running an application I know is correct a "java.lang.noclassdeffounderror message is generated.
Any Windows Updates that could have caused this issue?
I have run the same code on other win xp PCs and it works fine.
I have upgraded the version of java on my PC and still the same message is reproduced.
I have disabled my firewall and tried to execute the code with the same result.
    I would appreciate any advice.

Silly me, I should have read the previous messages as my question has already been answered.

  • Unresponsive Java and further issues.

    Hi all,
I'm a student studying Java, and I've been around Java for a while. I've lately put a new computer together and I'm running a legit copy of XP pro on it. Now when I installed Java on it, I had it verified and the website indicated that it has been successfully installed. However, every time I get on a website that uses Java, or I try to run a simple home made program on Java, only an empty window appears with no contents. The size of the window definately varries depending on the size it was designed to. Sometime, I even see java's startup logo an a part of the program shows up. But its usually not in working condition and at that point. All I can do at that point is close it, but then everything in windows becomes non-responsive. None of the icons work, start doesn't work, not even alt-ctrl-del. The only moving thing is my mouse arrow at that point. Then after about 20 seconds the already non-responsive computer freezes completely!
I've not been able to find a reason for this issue around, nor a way to fix it. I would like to know if anybody has any idea what is wrong with this.
    Thanks and regards,
    Vala

    Michael,
Our production server was recently upgraded to 10.1.2.3, CP5 with Java 1.4.2_06. Prior to this upgrade we recommended that users function with I.E. 6.0 and Firefox 2.0. We experienced issues with later browser versions. On my personal workstation I have Windows XP, SP2, I.E. 6.0, Firefox 2.0 and now Java 1.6.0_16. We are now testing the later version of Java on our test OAS. And we are testing out the later browser versions as we speak. The first thing that I would recommend is to add the Java Runtime parameter of -Xmx256M, in the Java Control Panel. I had some session locks prior to my adding this parameter. I am testing access to both servers with Java 6 installed on my workstation. Access to Java 6 performed better after I added the runtime parameters. Access to Java 4 with I.E. gives a warning message and performs very slowly. Mozilla Firefox does to seem to care, no warning and similar performance as Java 6 on the server side. I have not done very much testing with I.E. 7.0 and Firefox 3.0 as of yet with the newer Java version. I am now accessing that environment and it is running very slowly. Part of the issue may be my PC performance but I do not like what I see. Way too slow. This is the browser functionality not the workbook execution time. I added the Java Runtime parameter of
-Xmx256M and it now performs better.
I did the Ctrl-C|Ctrl-V with both I.E. and Firefox and did not experience the problem you discribed. I aslo did not encounter the other problems that you reported. We the corbaserver errors in a Discoverer pop-up window, Java Console or OEM session log?
You may be correct with the SP3 as being at least one of the culprits. I do not have that patch on either workstation so I cannot test for you.
