[SOLVED]laptop suspend when LID close, even set HandleLidSwitch=ignore

i've modify
HandleLidSwitch=ignore
systemctl restart systemd-logind.service
But when close LID, it suspend.
Then i click some key on keybord , it come back.

You are still using acpid. That is triggering the suspend, not logind.
Edit: Also use [ code ] [ /code ] tags (without the spaces) for things like your logs. Hit the "quote" button if you are more of a visual learner.

[SOLVED] Run xscreensaver when I close the laptop lid

I have xscreensaver running in my archlinux, and with a systemd service, I can start it after waking up my laptop.
The problem is that I like to keep my laptop running when I close the lid (for example, to go to bed while I'm downloading a file, I like to simply close my lid), but I want to lock my computer.
In the /etc/systemd/logind.conf, there is a nice option called HandleLidSwitch, which specifies which action is invoked when the lid is closed, and there is a lock option, but It doesn't work for me.
The option suspend works fine.

I would say that you should just have logind ignore the LidSwitch altogether. So if it is set to ignore the lid switch, then it obviously isn't going to be entering the suspend.target (or is it the sleep.target, I can't remember). Therefore, you are going to have to have some other way of triggering actions in response to these events.
The lid switch sends an event to udev, so you have the option of having a udev rule that responds to this, or using acpid to start this for you. I would recommend using acpid, as it is much more flexible in what it can allow you to do.
Edit: acpid is not necessarily more flexible than a udev rule, as it relies on the udev events. But it is a much easier method of setup since it simply relies of basic scripting in order to make it work. It can allow for one central script (or collection of scripts) to handle all the different events that udev sends. To see what kinds of things trigger a udev event, you can use udevadm monitor or if you install acpid, there is the acpi_listen option.
Edit2: BTW, what is it you mean by not working? Does it still suspend on lid close, or is your xscreensaver not started? You need to be more explicit there. If it is still suspending, have you rebooted or restarted logind after making those changes to logind.conf? You can't just edit the file and have the changes implemented right away, as the configuration is parsed and the settign implemented on the service start.

Urgent: Shut down when lid closes problem

My Mabook pro / mid 2010 / Yosemite 10.10 shuts down when lid closes. This is new in the last few days, not after any system updates. It wont restart after lid opens again, unless repeatedly holding down power button for long periods. Strangely, the sleep light is on before I open the lid, but once lid is open, it's completely off.
Does anyone know the cause and/or fix for this? I'm really worried it's the beginning of the end, and I rely on this machine for work and need to travel in a few days! Thanks in advance for any trouble shooting tips.

Just to clarify; when I say "this is new" I mean the problem, not the laptop.

Getting Arch to pm-suspend on lid close [SOLVED]

I want Arch to suspend to RAM when I close my laptop lid. Here is what I did:
I installed pm-utils. I also followed the wiki and set it up so that I can just say
sudo pm-suspend
and the computer suspends with the need to type in your password.
Then, I installed acpid to have a way to capture acpi events.
Now, from what I read on the wiki and in these forums, I had to edit /etc/acpi/handler.sh
Here is the pertinent code that I edited:

From what I can tell, it seems that xscreensaver doesn't want to start for some reason. By the way here are the contents of my /etc/pm/sleep.d/

My 15" powerbook has been acting up the last few days ever since I downloaded the last group of updates. When I close the lid to put it to sleep the entire computer shuts down. When I open it and start it up it gives me the message that the computer was unexpected shut down. Any ideas?

I would give Apple a phone call and ask for support, since it seems to be affiliated with the replacement battery (at least I would state so to get support).

[SOLVED] Laptop suspends constantly for no reason

Hello,
I just did an Arch Linux install by following the beginners guide. I got to the point,
where I have to boot for the first time into my newly installed system. Everything
seems to work fine, so I went ahead and started installing some more packages.
But then after about 3 minutes the laptop suddenly suspends. If I wake it up again
it keeps suspending again and again after 10-20 seconds. How can I find out why
the system is suspending all the time and fix this issue?

Maybe a suspend key or lid switch is triggered wrongly, maybe you can set the default actions to ignore in /etc/systemd/logind.conf like:
HandleSuspendKey=ignore
HandleLidSwitch=ignore
Hard to do within 10sec ...
Can you boot with the install CD and chroot in ?
There were some other recent threads about suddenly suspending...

Disconnects when lid closes

I was curious if there is a setting that when you close the lid to your laptop that it doesn't disconnect you from being on-line?? When i re-open the top my AIM and internet is logged off..

When you close your screen, your computer is essentially sleeping. So the harddisks stop. Meaning no data transfer at all..
If you want, get lucky and buy a new macbook that doesnt sleep when you close the lid. haha. mine did that. but i got it fixed.

Shutting off when lid closes

I just bought a 13 inch MBP yesterday. I know macbooks are supposed to sleep when the lid is closed by default. But a few times when I opened the lid, the computer had appeared to turn completely off. The indicator light on the front was steady when the lid was closed, not blinking like I believe it is supposed to be when sleeping.
Any ideas?

[Solved]Laptop does not start (not even bios)

Hi all,
I was about to install archlinux on my laptop. When I generate partitions (I used GPT), I saw something like this:
"If you have a BIOS motherboard (or plan on booting in BIOS compatibility mode) and you want to setup GRUB on a GPT-partitioned drive, you will need to create an extra BIOS Boot Partition of size 1 or 2 MiB and EF02 type code. Syslinux does not need one."
So, I was planning to make this. When I run cgdisk, I was that lthere was a 1007kb unusued(?) space. So I thought I can use this space for boot sector. Then I changed its type to EF02. When I did this, my laptop shutted down quickly and does not start again. When I press the power up button; I hear the usual starting noise, and then it shuts down again.
What did I do to my laptop?
What I tried:
Remove battery, wait for 5 minutes, try again
Remove hdd, try again
Unplug&plug bios battery, try again
Edit: Solved with a shame. Wall-charger was unplugged. This topic can be removed.

Restarts when lid closes

Sometimes when I close the lid in battery mode I here the TA DA! and I open the monitor and here the OS X is booting up like on a restart. It does not happen all the time. Any ideals what could be causing this? I leave my power settings in the Normal mode.

I have the same problem... But, more often than not, if I close the lid while it's still "thinking" about shutting down, I get frozen in some weird zombie limbo, in which the computer is half-shut-down, but, like, frozen in sleep mode... and i have a **** of a time getting it to respond and restart. when i finally DO restart, i get a message saying it wasn't shut down properly. (tho: it WAS shut down properly. it's just this bizarre restart it does when i shut the lid.) would LOVE advice!

[Solved] Laptop Suspend puts Hard Drive into Read-Only

My problem is that s2ram brings back X (and the virtual console, if I'm on one), but never the hard drive.
s2ram -f -a 1 suspends just like s2ram -f. -a 2 and 3 just make a high pitched sound.
I tried both http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Suspend_to_RAM and http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils methods.
I updated my BIOS drivers but that didn't help
s2disk works perfectly.

Laptop suspends when waking from hibernation

I have edited /etc/systemd/logid.conf to hibernate when pressing power button but when waking the laptop it's immediately put to sleep and I have to touch the keys to wake second time.

I use no acpi, pm-utils,just systemd.
i use no DE, just fluxbox by starting it at login.
I do not perfectly understand those options and I have read the systemd wiki many times.

Airport drops when lid closes

Hey all,
I'd really appreciate your help on this, I can't figure out if it's a normal defect of the MBA or just my model....I just got my ACD and I couldn't figure out why the network was constantly dropping when my 4 year old powerbook found it just fine. Then I realized when the lid is closed, or almost closed, the network completely drops even though the computer runs just fine (with my display, external keyboard and mouse). I can't figure this out. Something in the hinge is turning off the airport card?

Sorry about the sidetracking, was trying to correct the information that the other poster added (in two posts) that you can't use the MBA with it closed so others would not think that was true.
The closed lid may be interfering with the WiFi antenna or placing the antenna in a position where something is in the way that can block the signal. Other possibility is closing the lid is causing a problem with a short/loose connection due to a defect. To eliminate the first, move the arrangement of your monitor, etc. For the second you'd need to have it serviced.
