[SOLVED] Lost Tuba CineBass booster

Hi all. I have Acer Aspire 5739g and after upgrade kernel to version 3.3.1 sound lost low frequencies. I watched this topic and hoped, that after bump to 3.3.3 this problem will disappear, but nothing has change. On linux-lts all works fine.
my modprobe.conf contains the following lines:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire-6530g
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
Maybe someone has the same model without this problem? I also thought to send a bug report to developers, but i don't know how and to whom
P.S. Sorry for my English, it is not very good.

After viewing the source code linux-lts, to solve this problem, I wrote a patches, they work for my Acer Aspire 5739g with
options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire-6530g
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
in modprobe.conf and must work for Acer Aspire 6530g

  • [SOLVED] Lost Sound After Upgrade

    Solved (for now at least). The problem appears to be a bug with alsa. Alsaconf writes a file called /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf, which contains the aliases for the sound card. But for some reason it then wasn't reading the file. Copying the alias entries to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf to read directly from there seems to have worked.
    Now to fix the frequency scaling.
    ===================== solved ===========================
    I lost all sound after the last upgrade. I just rebooted because frequency scaling is also not working, and no sound.
    all drivers seem to be there:

    I tried firefox, xine, mythfrontend, avidemux2, xmms and mpg123 - there's no sound in any app. If I play something where there are indicators, like in xmms, the eq indicator levels jump, the song progresses like it's playing, but no sound. I reran alsaconf, it seems to be configured properly. The mixer sliders work and aren't muted. It doesn't work either as root or as user.
    I have another computer hooked up through the line out and the sound still works fine there, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem.
    I'm completely stumped at this point. If it's a bug somewhere, what's it a bug in to cause global sound loss? Is there anything else I'm overlooking? All I can think is that it must be muted somewhere, but I can't find it. Or else it has something to do with the cpu and cpu freq scaling that's also broken now.

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
    If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • [SOLVED] Lost MAC address on network card

    It seems that my wired ethernet card has lost its MAC address. Some information/output:
    # lspci|grep Ethernet
    02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
    The card uses the sky2 kernel module
    # dmesg|grep sky2
    sky2 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
    sky2 0000:02:00.0: setting latency timer to 64

    sky2 eth0: addr 00:00:00:00:00:00
    Adding a line
    #ifconfig eth0 hw ether <random-address-here>
    to the startup-scripts makes it possible to use the nic, but it seems like a very temporary solution.
    I don't know what can have caused this. Maybe the winter cold here in Norway erased some part of the nic's ROM?
    - Does anybody have any idea how I can remedy this?
    - Do I have to send the laptop in for repair to get it restored?

    iBertus wrote:I suppose a driver bug could have corrupted the ROM on the network card. Do you have a Windows install that you can boot into to see if the card is working correctly with those drivers?
    Using "ipconfig /all" on windows showed the same zeroed mac address, so I guess the problem isn't (wasn't) linux-specific.
    I left the pc in my locker at school last night and when I started it up again this morning the mac had mysteriously returned! Maybe the university leprechaun was bored yesterday.
    So I guess the problem is solved, for now... Thanks anyway!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus: Scan to computer doesn't work with Win8.1 [solved: problem with USB3 Boost]

    Since I installed 8.1 (pro), I can't use my 8600 Pro software for scanning to the computer (via USB). It looks like there is no communication with the printer as for the scanning software, but printing works as usual.
    Tried to use the HP Printer Assistant: when I click the "Scan a Document or Photo" button, I get a "Scanner Unreachable" message. Also after a restart of the printer.
    When I try to scan from Photoshop, the system first finds the printer but then fails to connect to it.
    HP Update says that my system is up to date.
    HP Print And Scan Doctor 4.2 finds and shows the printer on the Welcome panel and seems to be able to communicate with it, to a point.
    It gives me a "Driver error" (sorry if is not called so in English--it takes over my keyboard language, which is French and says "Erreur du pilote") and states that no communication could be established between the scan driver and the printer, and that I should reboot the computer...
    So I did and reran the Doctor software, which gave me the very same error message. This time, I clicked "Ignore" and let it do its things. It ran a "Scan Test" twice and indicated that everything was fine or had been repaired. But strangely nothing happened on the printer during those "tests". And at the end, as it offered me to make a scan test myself, I clicked OK and I had the "Scanner Unreachable" error message again.
    So I made my scans on an USB key, as I had to do a few times already, and that went very well. But I'd be glad to have that "Scan to computer" function back. How?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi ajmch,
    I am sorry to hear that you are still having a scan issue. What antivirus program are you running on the computer? Can you try to scan through Paint and Windows Fax and Scan on the computer? When you run the HP Print and Scan Doctor what error message are you getting?
    In this document for Windows: HP Scan Software Does Not Open or Scan on a Printer Using a USB Connection are steps  for checking the WIA and for checking software.
    You can also Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files that may resolve this issue.
    Let me know if this helped.
    Thank you,

    Thanks, I just realized problem is actually due to user error. I'll mark this "solved," and my apologies for the wild goose chase.

    I have an 8930g, so pretty close to you.
    My surround sound works. I use alsa-driver 1.0.25, rather than the in-kernel ALSA.
    So, my kernel config is:
    $ zgrep SOUND /proc/config.gz
    CONFIG_SOUND=m
    # CONFIG_SOUND_OSS_CORE is not set
    # CONFIG_SOUND_PRIME is not set
    $ zgrep SND /proc/config.gz
    # CONFIG_SND is not set
    And alsa-driver is compiled with:
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-isapnp=no --with-sequencer=yes --with-oss=no --with-pcm-oss-plugins=no --with-debug=none --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux --with-cards=hda-intel,hrtimer --with-card-options=seq-hrtimer-default,hda-codec-realtek,hda-hwdep,hda-reconfig,hda-patch-loader,hda-enable-realtek-quirks,hda-codec-analog,hda-prealloc-size=2048

  • [Solved] Lost files

    Hi,
    I have just lost some really important files. What happened is the following:
    I have a partition in ntfs which I use to share files between arch and windows.
    I started working with some files in arch, and then hibernated. Later I continued editing those files in windows. Since occasionally I play some games in windows, there has been some time since I worked in linux.
    Now, when I resumed arch, the files are left as the first time in linux. All the changes made in windows are lost. I restarted windows and the files are lost too!
    What could I do to recover those files?
    thanks for any help!
    Last edited by olvar (2011-04-26 14:12:18)

    That seems right, but I'm lucky!
    I installed "ntfsprogs" from the repos, and run ntfsfix on the partition. The files are recovered now.
    I guess that since I hibernate, the new files got orphaned on resuming. The original files seems to be just overwritten and the changes lost, but the new files are ok.
    Since before making large changes I use to copy the files, just in case, I didn't lose anything significant.

    Edit: Well when I do "startxfce4", I get the graphical interphace, but there is no internet connection.
    Edit 2: Well, "dhcpcd eth0" brings it . But I really wouldn't want to do those two commands upon every boot.

    Do you have hal in your daemons array?
    No I didn't actually !! I just had "(syslog-ng network netfs crond)". Dunno why my rc.conf defaulted to that.. I believe that fixed the problem. I'll boot later today.. but hey, if that did indeed fix the problem: you're the man !
    I myself would never had even thought about that.
    Edit: yep, that fixed this. Thanks again!! -> marking as [Solved].

  • [Solved] [GE70-2OC] Cooler Boost button issue

    Hi everyone,
    I acquired a GE70-2OC in 02/26/2014 which i'm very satisfied with except for a little thing,
    the "Cooler Boost" button doesn't work anymore, i tried many solutions found in the internet (including from MSI HQ forum) and i still don't know where the problem is ?
    what i already did :
    EC Reset
    Did a recovery with the burned DVD (DVDs were a recovery of W8 and i was on W8.1 then W8.1U1)
    Get back to W8.1U1 and updated all the drivers and utilities (last versions available on the websites MSI France and Global)
    Updated the BIOS (with two distinct versions 617 then 517 following the step-by-step on MSI's site)
    Updated the Firmware (with a reset of the EC after it for about an hour)
    Uninstalled -> restarted -> CCleaner -> restarted -> reinstalled SCM -> restarted
    after all this still got nothing after every step, so now i really don't know what to do, if anybody has any idea how to fix this i'll give it a shot.
    little information : I did a little test "burn" to see if the fan's speed changes automatically and it did, so this means the problem is only with the button (or SCM)
    I'm thanking you in advance

    thank you for the help hch, so far it's the only key that doesn't work, i just tried all the FN keys they all work, i tried the backlight key (since it isn't a backlit keyboard so i have an IE window to this forum) but the cooler button does nothing
    Does the booler boost button lights on when you press it?
    So if you have update the latest EC from MSI website, the version should be 510?

  • [SOLVED] Lost customized KDE Desktop config - reverted to default

    I'm using KDE 4.3.1.  I lost the customized configuration of my Desktop, i.e. wallpaper image, launchers for widgets and applications that were present in the bottom panel and in the system tray, clock configuration, Desktop icons, etc.  All of this reverted to the default configuration.  This is the second or third time this has happened in the last few months, and it happens out of the blue, i.e. from one startup to the next.  Obviously, KDE upon starting up can't find the config file(s) in which my custom settings are stored and which it was able to access before without any problem.
    My questions:
    1.  What could have brought this on, i.e. why does KDE suddenly fail to load my custom Desktop config?  Could there be a problem in accessing the appropriate HDD sector, i.e. possibly imminent HDD failure?
    2.  What is/are the file(s) in which my custom Desktop settings are stored?  Is there an automatic backup of these file(s) from which I could easily restore my previous custom settings?  Or could I simply reload the appropriate file(s) from my rsync backup of my home dir that I did just a week ago?

    FrozenFox wrote:As far as imminent hd failure goes, you should take a look at smartctl's output for your disk. However, take it with a grain of salt because it's not a definite indicator of disk health or lack thereof, but should be considered as a general report of such as determined by the disk itself. Also, some filesystems have problems with incorrect shutdowns eating files. During any of these times kde screwed up, did you shut down by force in any way (or did the power go out?) or did the shut-down process proceed normally? What filesystem do you use for /home ?
    Thanks for your comment.  I run smartctl occasionally, mostly to check the temperature of the HDD in my laptop.  Ran it again just now but the drive passed.  The only thing that looks rather high is the load cycle count (53323) but I remember reading some time ago when I was alarmed by this that smartctl sometimes puts out anomalously high values for this parameter that don't mean anything.
    So, I don't really think my internal HDD is sick.  No other file reading failures have occurrred recently.  The 2 or 3 times this particular problem had occurred recently, I'd restarted or shutdown the system in the standard way and restart/shutdown proceeded normally.  The filesystem for /home is reiserfs3 which is a journaling filesystem.
    I'm not much concerned about this anymore - now that I know how to restore my custom Desktop config files, it's no big deal if this happens again.  If it's some flakyness in KDE 4.3, it might be gone in future releases.
