[solved]PS3 Sixaxis Controller USB only

There are plenty of software and howtos to use the PS3 sixaxis controller with bluetooth, but I don't have bluetooth on my desktop.
Dmesg shows that the controller is registering:

When I cat /dev/input/js0, I don't get the cascade of chaotic characters I expect when I hit the buttons and move the axes.  Instead, I get just two of those strange characters you get when you cat a binary file, and they do not change when I play with the controller.  I installed jstest and jstest-gtk, and messed around with them.  jstest-gtk knows that I have a sixaxis controller plugged in, but I see no evidence that it is receiving input from the controller when I mess around with it, including when I use the "calibrate" feature;  all that happens is that once I complete the "wizard", all values go to 0.  The reason I am doing this is of course steam, and Steam Big Picture does not respond to the controller either.  jscal -c /dev/input/js0  shows no evidence of receiving input from the controller.   Is there some kernel module that I'm missing?  Googling sixaxis kernel module doesn't reveal anything to me.
Thanks in advance.

I think I solved it by hitting the "PS" button.

  • [solved]PS3 Sixaxis and Steam (USB)

The sixaxis controller works with Steam out of the box!  The problem is that the buttons are just a little off.
    What I've done so far:
Disabled Joystick control of mouse cursor (It was interfering with what I wanted to do)
Plugged in my sixaxis and hit the PS button (the pad won't do anything until you hit the button)
Ran HL2 Beta (which runs flawlessly by the way) and played around a bit.  I can look, move, jump, shoot, use and duck.  It's almost perfect! Much better than the Sixaxis control support for Windows7!  The problem is that I can't run fast...  and the button layout is just a little weird. (A couple of the buttons do exactly the same thing, and I suspect that other controls are missing)
I suspect that the problem is that the PC gaming world revolves around MS and their 360 controller.
Googling, I found this thread:  http://supermeatboy.com/forum/index.php?topic=2389.0    They are attempting to remap the keys to be more like the 360 controller.  Keep in mind that I don't know if this will actually solve the problem.  I followed the directions (although I'm not sure that HL2 uses SDL at all) and nothing changed.  (Maybe that's just evidence that HL2 doesn't use SDL)
    Any suggestions?
PS:  I get the same results with L4D2.  HL1 doesn't work so well.  The controls do something, but they need to be calibrated specifically for that game or something (my character looks at the floor and spins in a circle)
PPS:  I think that Qjoypad might be a practical work-around.  I just think that it would be a shame to use a work around when a more elegant solution might be available.
PPPS:  I plan to update the wiki if I get this working properly.

No luck with L4D2, but I got it to work perfectly in HL2.  You just need to use the in-game key mapper.  (I don't know how I missed that)

  • Getting Bluetooth to forget about my PS3 Sixaxis controller

I have a problem that is driving me absolutely nuts.
I have a MBP with Snow Leopard, all updates. I have a Mighty Mouse, so obviously I have Bluetooth enabled.
I also have a PS3, which uses Bluetooth for its Sixaxis controllers. This issue has to do with the MBP "stealing" the controller from the PS3 when someone wants to play a game with it. And this happens EVERY time. The controller gets paired with the MBP, and I have to plug the controller into the PS3 via USB to even get it to recognize it again, which defeats the purpose of having Bluetooth in the first place.
This is driving me nuts. I remove the contoller from the device list in the Bluetooth preferences, but it gets paired with it again the next time I turn it on.
Is there any way to force MacOS to PERMANENTLY forget about a Bluetooth device?

  • Can I use a regular USB wall charger to charge my Sixaxis controller?

Hi. I have a Sixaxis controller and I'm wondering if I could charge it using a USB wall charger like the ones that come with smartphones. I want to charge my controller but I have the PS3 plugged into an extension cable with my TV, set-top box and DVD player. In order to charge my controller atm I have to have all those things turned on and it's expensive and somewhat dangerous. So, can I use my phone's USB wall charger to charge my Sixaxis controller?  Thanks.

Thanks. I just didn't want it to explode or something.

  • [Howto] Sixaxis controller and bluetooth.

    Hello.
I have just created a new package for aur, its name is qtsixa. It's my first package.
You can use some sixaxis controller with one bluetooth dongle. For me, I can use 4 sixaxis controller simultaneously.
    Aur link : here
    Official website : here
    Features : http://qtsixa.sourceforge.net/features.html
    Current version : 1.1.1.
Current aur version : 1.1.1 (only for 64bits for the moment, need to modificate PKGBUILD)
I will update the package today. [OK]
    To install, just use :
    yaourt -S qtsixa
    Howto use : (2 steps)
First launch as root sixad daemon :
    # /etc/rc.d/sixad start
    Then launch qtsixa.
You must connect sixaxis controller with an USB cable, and to pair (Tasks menu / Pairing Sixaxis ), disconnect USB, then press PS button to use it with bluetooth.
    Enjoy.

Yeah, that's why I use DEB pkg to build an arch PKG.
But I will check your PKGBUILD, and if all it's good, i will update it on AUR. Thanks
    - on start, DAEMON is called with '--start'
    - removed nonexistant debian function 'status_of_proc'
About this, I will speak to the main developper to create a patch. But all works by using init-functions from debian (see my actually pkgbuild.)
marinftw wrote:Hi, how can I make this work on 32 bit Arch???
You can modificate my PKDBUILD to change these lines
    deb2targz sixad_"$pkgver"-falktx0_amd64.deb || return 1
    tar -xzf sixad_"$pkgver"-falktx0_amd64.tar.gz || return 1
to 32 bits. All is in the downloaded zip.

  • PS3 bluetooth controller?

Is there any way to get the PS3 bluetooth controller to work with this tablet? I can't seem to get it to work. USB PS1 controller works thou. I mean comon, it's SONY, it's PS3, and this is a PS certified tablet. The tablet already have a USB host and bluetooth enable so why can't I get the PS3 controller to work?

garbage. the device after MONTHS was able to connect to a PS3 dualshock if you buy an adapter cable. LOOOOL such bull. Oh and if you are able to connect, you can't really use it to do anything since interplay with ps3, psp, or any playstation network purchases is completely impossible!
yay for being tricked into buying a garbage tablet like myself.
don't expect sonystyle to do right. They answer the phone but thats about it.

  • Xperia Z1, Problem with OTG and Sony PS3 Headset Pulse USB Adapter

Hi, I did a bit of testing, with headphones Sony PS3 Wireless Headset Pulse , I state that both the adapter and the Sony Pulse Headphones work perfectly on PC and PS3 via the USB adapter , then connect the adapter via USB OTG connection on the Sony Xperia Z1 . With much regret I noticed that the connection between the USB adapter and headphones was established , but the audio was transmitted jerky and scratchy . So I decided to try again via USB OTG headphones Logitech F540 (again, via USB OTG, not via audio jack) , and with much enthusiasm I noticed a connection quick and efficient , without cawing and smoothly ; clear sound as if they were of the headphones connected directly to the Audio Jack with wire . I then decided to try another pair of headphones USB (for PC) , the Creative HS -1200 , connecting via the USB OTG adapter receiver headphones ( ie the same thing I did with Sony and the Logitech ) ; also in this case the Creative Wireless Headphones have received the sound from the USB receiver , without any problem or distortions . Now I want to understand how it might work all this variety of USB devices not Made by Sony , connected via the OTG port , but do not work Devices Made By Sony ? You can solve this problem with the Firmware right?
The firmware installed in my Xperia Z1 is 14.1.G.1.534 .
The OTG cable is fully functional with a multitude of devices (USB HD 2.5 Inch, USB pendrive, USB Audio, USB Mouse and keyboard).
For your info, I already tried to connect the OTG, to a powered USB 2.0 HUB, and on the HUB USB, connect the adapter from Sony and the result is one and the same. The USB adapter will light as the Sony Z1 directly connected to the OTG, but the sound from the speakers gets crackling and jerky. I tried to connect the USB adapter of Sony headphones, and then connect the cable from USB jack to the audio jack of Z1, and of course the audio works perfectly, because it bypasses the USB audio sent by Z1, going to use the 'Jack audio input, and using the USB Headset adapter (Sony Pulse) as a simple transmitter.
Thank you to anyone reply to this.
Edit: i have try with samsung S3 and Samsung S4 with OTG and the Sony HeadSet Pulse work fine with the USB Dongle. The problem is on the firmware audio of the Xperia Z1.

    Two possibility
    The driver is not right
Or the second i know and it's not possible to fix  , they can happen on any audio device with any pc or other host
You can try your headset over a usb hub with a extern power source and connect the usb hud on your phone ,  if this not continu it's a power problem with the usb port
Sometime a usb port cannot provide suffisent power and that affect the audio or any data transfer , a usb hub provide on each port the power they need so when you cronnect your headset that give the good power to him
Few friends know this issue with a variety of device
One use one device on each port on his pc and there happen the pc cannot provide suffisent power for his headset , I suggest to use the minimal on his usb port and he don't have the problem , I suggest to buy a usb port power by an external source and that fixed the problem
If his your problem no update can fix that for fixing you need a Y cable to give more power to the usb port of your celphone and using a external power source (portable charging , solar panel custom 5v usb port with AA batterie)

  • NO USB Only Internet Tethering after upgrade to OS4?

I have discovered that I can no longer do internet tethering using the USB only tethering connection since I upgraded to OS4. This used to work perfectly well up until then as I used it quite extensively while travelling. When using the USB Internet Tethering only the message I get in the Network Preferences is that the iPhone USB is not connected or the device is not responding!
Very annoying and surprising that such a defect got through the QA cycle!

    1) any recommended solutions?
If you have AppleCare, you have free support. It might be a good idea to check with the factory to get the latest information.
    2) how can i get the previous firmware back?
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click on the word "Version" about 3 lines down
A window will open to display available firmware
    Click OK, then click Continue
Some users are reporting that this option is not available, so I cannot tell you in advance whether this will work for you.

  • Firewire (AV) Videocam with USB-only New iMac

This has probably been answered somewhere but can't find it. What sort of connector is required to connect my Sony DCR HC52 camcorder to a new 21.5-inch: 3.06GHz USB-only computer? My current 4-year old MacBook Pro has the firewire input, which works fine with this tape-based camcorder.

    Hi saxyjazzman
It looks like the camcorder came with a FireWire 400 to 4 pin cable and the new iMac only has 4 USB ports and 1 FireWire 800 port.
So it looks like you need either a Sonnet 400 to 800 adapter or a 9 to 4 pin FireWire cable that connects to your camcorder.

  • Pair PS3 Dualshock 3 Sixaxis controller with Macbook Pro

I have read many threads with instructions on how to pair a PS3 Dualshock 3 controller with my Macbook Pro
I have stumbled at the same hurdle every time without success in that no matter what variation of connecting the controller with lights flashing quickly or slowly or not at all, having used a paperclip to reset the controller it never shows up in the Bluetooth preferences box it's just blank.
I've tried two different controllers which work on my PS3 so I don't think its the controllers, I can get my iPhone to show up on the Bluetooth preferences box so the bluetooth is working.
I'm running OS Yosemite on a 2014 Macbook Pro retina - can anyone help?

Im having the same issue as the two above. The controller works with steam games, however is completely unresponsive to third part key mapping software, and it can't be found in the bluetooth system preferences, only under the bluetooth dropdown menu. I have not been asked to pair it, and here are the bluetooth settings showing the current state of my device. Hope this helps, and someone can help me solve the mystery as Ive already but alot of time into researching this cause to no avail.

I understand that. but both UUIDs and devices (/dev/sdX) are there in fstab if I am correct. I will check that in evening. if so did i make a mistake in generating fstab.
    I have generated fstab with
    genfstab -p /mnt >> /mnt/etc/fstab  (does this happens if i forget -p).
as I have done this multiple times, I might have done some thing wrong. I will edit that file manually and removed /dev/sdx entries from that
Honestly, you are not very good at sharing what is actually in your configs.  So as Trilby said above, no one really knows what is in your fstab, since you have not actually shared that with this thread.
As far as I can tell, when I run "genfstab -p /" on my running machine, letting the output just be dumped to stdout, it doesn't give me UUIDs anywhere.  And from your statement it seems you haven't even actually checked.
What I have done in the past is used labels.  For example if you are using ext2, ext3, or ext4, you could assign a label using "e2label".  So lets say you label your rootfs (/) "usb_root".  Now instead of using the unreliable /dev/sdXY format, you can use LABEL=usb_root in your fstab, and in the bootloader you can use root=LABEL=usb_root (or root=/dev/disk/by-label/usb_root).
I would also like to mention that this quote sucks:
Archhotep wrote:No. UUIDs are there in the boot loader (I think) and grub was working fine and why the system is trying to boot at first place.
There are a number of people who are patiently trying to walk you through this issue (with quite a bit more hand holding that usually takes place around here), and you don't have the decency/appreciation to even take the time to confirm what you are actually using in the configs that everyone is telling you to check and/or change.
    Sir,
I was a standard linux (i mean ubuntu etc) user until sometime back.  I don't know exactly what should be there in /etc/fstab. I also do not know what information you might need to help me. If any one asked me the details about /etc/fstab etc might have provided. I have given what info what I felt was appropriate and enough. I do not have that machine with me when I was posting lat post, otherwise I might have posted. that laptop is at home. I already said thanks in my third post immediately after I solve the problem.
Sorry if I am wrong, and thatnk you once again for letting me about labels.
If I still have a question about /etc/fstab, i will post my fstab.
I don't know where to look to know that my boot loader is using uuid or dev. It would be great help.
