[SOLVED] Some colored text in urxvt displaying oddly

Some colored text does not display correctly in the terminal - but not all. Here's a screenshot:
http://i.imgur.com/xrzCR16l.png
As you can see, the directory names displayed in blue and the executable files displayed in green (not sure why .vimrc is executable..) are all funky looking. However, my username and the regular file names are all displaying correctly. Also all the colored text in VIm in the terminal looks fine as well:
I've read through the Font Config Wiki - Applications Without Fontconfig Support but none of the configs suggested:
Xft.autohint: 0
Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
Xft.hintstyle: hintfull
Xft.hinting: 1
Xft.antialias: 1
Xft.rgba: rgb
in my .Xresources file change this behavior. Here is my full .Xresources file without the above settings, its not very long:

urxvt.scrollBar: false
I would have thought that it has something to do with the colors being defined incorrectly, but the ".vimrc" file is using the same color as my username, and my username is behaving correctly. I'm at a loss and attempting to google "Font Problems in urxvt" gets topics where the the font is incorrect throughout the whole terminal, not just in particular places. Anyone know how to correct this?

Try defining your bold font explicitly:
URxvt.boldFont: blah

    Put the indicators outside of the case structures.  Wire across the borders of the case structure.  It creates "tunnels".

  • Safari displaying odd text? Gobbledygook!?

    I found the answer to this going back to 2008 and 09, so thought it worth putting on here again as I have been suffering this problem for something like 6 months within 2013!
    I was finding some text on some websites had some text that was displaying as odd text, just odd characters sometimes overlapping each other. That was also coming up when I started to try and use iCloud - where the welcome screen icons had the gobbledygook text under each one, so you didn't know what they were and had to guess! Never tried as wanted to find the solution.
    I'm on latest Safari version and OS system.
    This was a solution posted in 2008 and worked for me:
    But it got me thinking - and I went into Suitcase & noticed that an Helvetica T1 font was having problems, so I deactivated it & looked at Wikipedia again.
    While I wasn't seeing gobbledygook text anymore, the same offending text snippets were now bunched up on top of each other - like a typewriter that refuses to nudge onto the next character space. So I quit Safari and looked at Wikipedia again and it is all fine.
    In conclusion, Suitcase was having a problem with Helvetica, deactivating it, quitting Safari and starting Safari again solved the problem.

    Oops, answered to the wrong thread.  Sorry.

    Hi, While writing an email online using Firefox 3.6.3, I was using one of the "CTRL+left or right arrow" to move the cursor along the text. I must have pressed some other key because the display has become huge - and I can't scroll vertically or horizontally, which makes using the Mail pages of Hotmail impossible. I have since logged in using MSFT Explorer and it works fine. This problem occurs only on the Mail page of Hotmail Live not on the home page or others.
    Could you please let me know if this is a problem with Firefox, or if you have any advice on how to reset the appearance of Hotmail in Firefox?

  • Display colored text

    Hi,
    this might sound too easy, but I would like to ask this anyway.
    What's the preferred way to display colored text on a BSP page?
    Regards,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
    If its a plain text in html....then...its the normal html tag...
    <font>
    eg.
    <font face="Arial" color="GREEN">Colored text</font>
    And for textView, try using this...
    First set the attribute <b>encode</b> to <b>FALSE</b>.
    Then use HTML tag as text...
    eg :
    <htmlb:textView id = "TxV1"
                  encode = "FALSE"
                   text = "<font face="Verdana" color="GREEN">Colored text</font>" />
    I think this works...!
    <b><i>Do reward each useful answer..!</i></b>
    Thanks,

  • [SOLVED] Console colors make text illegible (i.e. white on yellow)

    As shown in this image, colored text on my console often appears as white on yellow or vice-versa.  When this happens, I can't read the text.
    I believe these colors are the archlinux defaults, or specified by the programs I'm running.  I don't think its a product of my customizations but I could be wrong.  The text appears this way in bash or zsh.
    I've been searching, but I can't find the right way to control the colors.  I'm not searching for a color scheme, although if that's the only solution, I'm open to suggestions. What I really want is a way to say, "never use colors as similar as yellow and white together."
    Thanks for any help.

    Dave Cohen wrote:never use colors as similar as yellow and white together.
    There's no way to do specifically that - unless you set your TERM to something that cannot use color at all.
    But you can easily define what the 14 default colors are.  Most programs don't actually specify a color, they just select from the 14 defaults (often just 7 really):
    # from bashrc
    # #RRGGBB
    echo -en "\e]P0181818" #black
    echo -en "\e]P8000000" #darkgrey
    echo -en "\e]P1a62a3e" #darkred
    echo -en "\e]P9f04758" #red
    echo -en "\e]P238912b" #darkgreen
    echo -en "\e]PA60aa2b" #green
    echo -en "\e]P3b27d12" #brown
    echo -en "\e]PBddb62b" #yellow
    echo -en "\e]P4355c9a" #darkblue
    echo -en "\e]PC45a3e6" #blue
    echo -en "\e]P57c4f9f" #darkmagenta
    echo -en "\e]PDc953ef" #magenta
    echo -en "\e]P6258f8f" #darkcyan
    echo -en "\e]PE60c6c8" #cyan
    echo -en "\e]P7aab8b8" #lightgrey
    echo -en "\e]PFd0d0d0" #white
    clear
    Also, setting a good font can help readability.
    EDIT: sorry, the above code is for TTY.  For terminals in X, you'd just set values in your Xresources/Xdefaults:
    *color0: #000000
    *color8: #666666
    *color1: #A62A3E
    *color9: #F04758

  • Bizarre colored text in 10.4.6

    Last night I updated my 17-inch PowerBook (1GHz, 1GB) to 10.4.6 using Software Update (which has always worked fine for me in the past). Since doing so, when it renders black text, odd bits of color show up in and around the characters. It's not a problem with explicitly-colored text. I've searched the forum, and find no reference to this one. I see a lot of advice to install from the combo updater rather than Software Update, so I tried that, but the symptoms remain. No "font smoothing" setting in Appearance makes any difference, and it persists if I change screen resolutions. Some other bits of text are being rendered oddly as well, but it's hard to be more specific than that.
    To see what I'm talking about, look at http://surly.org/finder.png and http://surly.org/fontbook.png -- the fact that I'm able to take screenshots shows that it's not something in my display hardware.
    Suggestions would be appreciated.
    17-inch PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Problem occurs in all accounts (even a freshly-created one) and all applications (web browsers look particularly ugly).
    As I said, none of the font smoothing settings change it a bit. It could still be related, though, because in general I use larger fonts than 12-point, which is the highest setting in "turn off text smoothing".
    I have not tried repairing permissions, because I can't envision what difference it would make, and as a systems professional I try to stay away from the "just try this, it fixes things sometimes" sorts of solutions, but I suppose I could give it a whirl.

  • Echo colored text in a shell script?

  • Laserjet CP2025 When printing colored text I get a shadow/halo around each letter

    I am able to print black text perfectly but when I try to print any colored text there is a shadow/halo around each letter that makes it difficult to read. I tried turning off the Edge control in the printing properties section but the problem stayed the same. Any ideas on what my problem might be? Thank you.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    We need more detail. What program are you printing with? Do you get the same color effect no matter what program you are using? The program you use when you get color halos have you used that program before and did not get halos?
    Have you tried a different program an still get halos? If so, have you tried reinstalling you printer software package?
    Do the halos appear to be intentional or do they appear to be a quality print problem? If it looks like a quality ink issue, have you removed the color toners and slowly tilted them side to side to mix the toner? If you do that and get good print results, its time to get new or refurbished color toners (or refill them).
    If the halos appear to be intentional, you probably have a software problem, anything from a degraded driver to settings in the printer manufacturer's software, to Windows. If the problem seems to be software related, you may want to try my "keep it simple stupid" and not try to find out precisely where the problem is but simple do some broad but quick actions.
    First, I would run your registry repair and registry clean utility(ies). I would do a hard drive defrag & then a registry defrag.
    If none of this ends the problem, I'd uninstall and reinstall the entire software package that came with your printer. Before I did that, I think I'd reinstall the program that is printing halos in color mode.

  • Text does not display in address bar or any windows I open

    Text does not display when typing in address bar. When I open a window (eg Edit > Preferences) no text is displayed within that either.
    Problem has persisted through Ubuntu 12.04 (possibly 11.10) to 13.04. Has also remained after re-installs, both through use of Software Centre, and through Terminal commands, and after running purge of all firefox content.
    Running Firefox as root using gksu command also doesnt help.

    Have finally solved,
    1st checked default system fonts available using unity-tweak
    Then went to ~.mozilla/firefox and found prefs.js file, deleted everything to do with fonts and families, saved and restarted.
    The odd thing is how this file persisted despite removing and purging firefox.

    Hi Mayank,
    You can give a try this.
    Within the screen you are calling give keyword
    Leave to list processing
    and then you can give whatever colors which are there in SAP
    For making the text bold you can set Format intensified on or off depending on your requirement.
    For more details you can refer to programs
    program1 : demo_leave_to_list_processing
    program2: demo_call_screen_from_list

  • My HP Color LaserJet CP1215 has colored text quality problems

    My printer was working fine, but in the last month, I have been unable to correct a printing issue, which involves colored text that double prints or is blurry, it looks like it has a shadow mostly any color has a red shadow.  I have replaced all the cartridges, checked to make sure the tape was pulled off all and performed a cleaning, and all tests I could find or had access to.  I am beyond frustrated and am ready to throw it out the window.  Does anyone have any solutions?

    Don't quit keep with it, I almost quit because I was getting mad.  They kept harping on changing paper, changing paper.  My paper had sat in it for some time in a room where temperature changes was up and down.  The paper could have dried out to much or may have gotten moisture in it from the temperature changes.  I know it sounds crazy but change the paper with fresh paper along with calibrating it 3 or 4 times and see if you get different results.

  • Iterate over some output text in a panel Grid

    Hello folks
    Are any of you doing something like this in JSC
    <code>
    <%
    for (int i = 0; i<4; i++)
    %>
    <h:panelGrid bgcolor="gray" binding="#{Page1.gridPanel1}" id="gridPanel1" style="height: 73px; left: 0px; top: 120px; position: absolute" width="216">
    <h:outputText binding="#{Page1.outputText1}" id="outputText1" value="Author"/>
    <h:outputText binding="#{Page1.outputText2}" id="outputText2" value="Summary"/>
    <h:outputText binding="#{Page1.outputText3}" id="outputText3" value="Article link"/>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <%
    %>
    </code>
    What I'm trying to do is something like data table, except that I want to have control over where the output text goes, and how it is presented.
    In data table all I get is a predefined table (Im unable to format it the way I would like) so lets do it the old way - link some output text to a database or maybe an array which holds the "data" then loop over it x number of times to display the content kind of like this
    For (less than x times) do
    Author name
    Date article written
    Summary article
    Link to more of the article
    This would be the way I used to this, now Im curios how this is done using JSF
    <% loop here %> does not mix well in Creator, error not well formed
    Im unable to format a data table in any respect except number of rows and stuff
    So Any suggestion on how to really do this effectively in JSC/JSF
    Thanks Bjorn

    Hi,
    Actually, you have quite a bit of flexibility with the Data Table component.
    You can add more than one component to a column,
    and you can use an outputText component to hold
    HTML formatting tags, such as <br>.
    Note: you must uncheck the escape attribute.
    And since the data table component produces an HTML <table> tag,
    you can also control style with additional style sheet classes (see Tor's blog).
    For an example of using the Data Table component
    to display the resuts of the Google search web services,
    See Beyond the Book at this URL:
    http://www.asgteach.com/download/beyond.pdf
