SOLVED: Suspend not working on a laptop
I have Asus A53U laptop, running all the latest updates and KDE
I can't suspend the system truly, it only really turns the screen off (fan is still running and and the LED is not blinking as it is supposed to)
Running pm-suspend switches me to text mode (tty-like mode), but then apparently gets stuck at "freezing user space processes" .
Looking at pm-suspend.log I get:

So that's not really helpful. I tried getting the script from here http://thecodecentral.com/2011/01/18/fi … orking-bug which seeme to help many, but then running # pm-suspend gets stuck and the log file is the same except for the added:
Running hook /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd suspend suspend:
Note that there is no "success" here.
I have acpi installed, I also tried this with acpid. I also have laptop-mode-tools installed and running, tried disabling them, no luck.
What should I do?
EDIT: Nevermind me. After rebooting for the fifth time and adding acpi_sleep=s3_bios to the kernel line, everything now runs smoothly. Won't delete the post in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Well, I finally have it working. I have to test it better, but it seems to work ok. All I have to do was install the omnibook module. I will explain all the steps I've done, maybe it could help someone.
First of all, installed subversion
pacman -S subversion
then, in a folder created under my home
svn co https://omnibook.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/omnibook/omnibook/trunk/
and when it finishes
make install
This install the omnibook module.
Then added omnibook to the modules array in rc.conf, and added the next line to /etc/modprobe.conf
options omnibook ectype=12
After that I rebooted my system and, voila!, now it works. A new device appears on the lsusb, hciconfig -a shows the device, and all the bluettoth tools I've test already work flawless. I'm going to edit the title of the post to [solved].
I'm not sure at all about if that method is the best one, so please feel free to propose corrections/improvements to it.
Thank you all

[Solved] Suspend not working on Asus N82JV / USB 3.0
*Solved* Turns out you just have to create a file in /etc/pm/config.d with the following text: SUSPEND_MODULES="xhci-hcd ehci-hcd". Voilá. Suspend to ram works by a) sudo pm-suspend b) Ordering KDE to suspend c) Fn+F1.
I've been trying to figure this out for some time now.
I've managed to get suspending to disk working, using hibernate-script with USuspendMethod disk. I had to blacklist xhci_hcd (usb 3.0) in order for it to work.
I already tried pretty much every s2ram combination as described here, even though I haven't yet tried the booting with minimal environment part.
Every combination ends up complety locking the system, with no possibility of ctrl+alt+fx or even ctrl+alt+del. Just hangs 'forever'.

Am I missing something? Is it another module? Some hardware that's causing this? The only other odd hardware configuration, other than USB 3.0 is the dual graphic cards (Nvidia Optimus). The Nvidia is powered down, though (tried both ways).
Note: The default suspend system doesn't work, it just locks the screen (if in gnome/kde/whatever)

Thinkpad T430, T430s and T530 models on the Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 will function as a USB 3.0 port.
The functionality of the T420, T420s and T520 is a limitation of the Intel Chipset not a defect in either the Thinkpad or Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0

Its really strange that i am using my installtion disk first time and it has no scratch but its not working. now I guess I have to replace new DVD with this one.
Thanks again.

I want to reset my ipod touch 4th gen but i have forgotten the restrictions passcode and for some reason its not working on my laptop on itunes and the restore thing wont work! any help?
Make sure you have the Current Version of iTunes Installed on your computer
iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download
Then See Here > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once... Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
After you have Recovered your Device...Re-Sync your Content
Note:
To remove a forgotten Restrictions passcode you will need to Restore the Device as New...
OR... From a Backup created Before the Restrictions Code was set.... -
itunes not working on my laptop. It gives me an error meassage, "The procedure entry point dispatch_get_specific could not be located in the dynamic link library "
See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The issue seems similar to that in the first box though it would be nice to have the complete error message. Tearing out all iTunes components and reinstalling as given in the second box should resolve.

Itunes is not working on my laptop and I need to back up my contacts on a 3Gs phone?
Itunes is not working on my laptop and I need to back up my contacts on my 3Gs Iphone?
Hello KP530,
It sounds like you are unable to unlock your phone because you cannot use the screen, and you need to back up your phone. I recommend these steps from the article named:
iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
Connect the device to the computer with which you normally sync and open iTunes.
Note: If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer" section below.
If the device is still disabled, or if iTunes does not automatically sync your device, sync the device with iTunes.
When the backup and sync is complete, restore your device.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

Muse not work on my laptop.
I've downloaded my Muse apps on my laptop but the shortcut didn't created and it seems not working for my laptop.
I found out the Muse requires that the minimum process is 2.33GHz but my windows 7 32 bit laptop is 2.20GHz.
Is this the reason why Muse doesn't work on my laptop?Nothing to do with your processor speed. Probably something else, but without exact system information nobody can say anything.

[Solved (kind of)] Suspend not working after reinstall
Hi folks.
I did a reinstall 2 days ago and since then suspend / resume after a suspend to ram is not working. (Thinkpad x200)
As a desktop i use kde4, i also tried a dbus suspend and a pm-suspend without any X running.
Following happens using arch kernel:
- suspend is initiated and it immediately resumes;
Following happens when using my own kernel + config:
- suspend works (moon led starts blinking and finally the fan stops and the moon is the only led shining)
- after i open the lid or press the power button resume starts but the moon led is aktive, only the cpu fan starts running;
unfortunately i don't know how to log this process, as the display is not working and there's no log available of the resume process.
my rc.conf starts following daemons/programs:
metalog dbus thinkfan sshd
Thanks for any suggestions.

I add some information from the log files. State is unchanged. Both with slef baked kernel and arch kernel resume is not working

Are there any suggestions where i should go from here? (with the official arch kernel its exactly the same story, no difference in the logs) -
Suspend Not Working Post 2013-09-17 Move Away From Init
Hello,
I would first like to say I have been happily using Arch for about a year now and I'm very thankful for the wonderful arch wiki that has answered more questions than I can count. However, I seem to be stuck on this one. Recently, after updating my system I am no longer able to suspend my system reliably. Initially all my Fn keys worked out of the box on my Lenovo laptop, as well suspend upon closing the lid. I would say it works about 10% of the time now. I believe this problem stems from something in my systemd configs although I do not know that to be the case. This became a problem after arch officially moved to systemd around 2013-09-17. Now most times I cannot suspend, hibernate, or power off my machine safely. Normally I am forced to use 'sudo poweroff -f' as it is the only command that works. My function keys for screen brightness etc have become laggy or unresponsive at times as well. As this is a fairly obtrusive issue, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!crf wrote: Where have you been? Final notice of end of initscripts support is https://www.archlinux.org/news/end-of-i … s-support/.
As mentioned, I am a fairly new user, even more so this install itself is only about 6 months old so this post was before my time. I was referring to https://www.archlinux.org/news/deprecat … ysctlconf/
cfr wrote:Work through https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … nitscripts if you have not already done so.
I have gone through this with no luck.
cfr wrote:Make sure polkit is installed. Remove yourself from any potentially problematic groups (e.g. power etc.)
polkit is installed, although I'm rather confused as to how this would cause an issue as I'm not sure I entirely understand it's function.
cfr wrote:Make sure you do not have multiple things trying to handle the suspend, although usually this causes a double-suspend rather than none at all.
Once again, my newbie status leaves me unsure of how to pursue this one.
crf wrote:What were you using to control this stuff? Do you know what is being used now?
Thankfully my suspend worked out of the box, as a result I didn't investigate as to how it was working so I don't really know. For the few things that didn't work (volume keys, lock screen) I used xbindkeys.
cfr wrote:Is your system completely up to date? Have you dealt with all pacnew and pacsave files?
Yes, I have updated my system several times since then to no avail. As to the pacnew and pacsave files, This is new for me, am I correct in saying these are saved config files that were replaced during a previous update that I need to somehow reincorporate? I searched for them but from what I can see none of them seem to be related to my issue.
$ find / -regextype posix-extended -regex ".+\.pac(new|save|orig)" 2> /dev/null
/etc/group.pacnew
/etc/gshadow.pacnew
/etc/colord.conf.pacnew
/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.pacnew
/etc/ppp/ip-down.d/00-dns.sh.pacnew
/etc/ppp/ip-up.d/00-dns.sh.pacnew
/boot/grub/grub.cfg.pacnew
/boot/grub/grub.cfg.pacsave
Also, I would like to note that at the time of this post suspend is working perfectly fine, however the problem is not solved as its functionality phases in and out. I don't know if its sporadic behavior is helpful in this troubleshoot or not, just throwing it out there.
Update: its not working again, tried to shutdown via terminal and this was the error.
sudo shutdown -h now
[sudo] password for _____:
Failed to open /dev/initctl: No such device or address
Failed to talk to init daemon.

Voyager Legend will not work with my laptop
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-3120us Entertainment Notebook PC with Windows 7(64-bit). I recently purchased a new bluetooth headset and am unable to get it to work with my laptop. The Previous headset was a Plantronics Voyager Pro which worked great with my laptop, all I had to do was pair it and that was that. My new headset is the Plantronics Voyager Legend and after pairing, it starts installing drivers and all but one are fine.
Bluetooth AV Ready to use
Bluetooth Remote Control Ready to use
Bluetooth AV Remote Control Target Ready to use
Bluetooth Peripheral Device No Driver Found
Bluetooth Hands-free Ready to use
I've uninstalled, reinstalled several times and it didn't help, It shows that the device is paired, but doesn't reroute audio to the headset or the microphone. It shows in audio devices but says disconnected, when I click on 'connect', nothing happens and 'set as default' is grayed out and I cannot select it. I know that there is a separate bluetooth USB adapter available, but I'm using the headset mostly for my phone (which works fine) and occasionally my laptop so I don't really want to purchase it. I've already contacted Plantronics about the issue and this was their response:
"Thank you for contacting Plantronics Technical Support.
If you are using built in blue tooth and not our blue tooth USB adapter unfortunately we cannot assist you with your built in blue tooth, Plantronics does not supply drivers, here is our statement with regards to using built in blue tooth:
If you are pairing the headset directly to your computer, the drivers that are required are for your computer's internal Bluetooth adapter. You will need the drivers supplied by your computer's manufacturer in order for you to use your Bluetooth headset as an audio device.
Different computer manufacturers and computer models will use different internal Bluetooth adapters, so you'll have to contact your computer manufacturer to get those drivers. Most major computer manufacturers have a "Drivers" or "Drivers and Downloads" page on their web site in which you can enter your computer model in order to retrieve available drivers. You can typically find the Bluetooth drivers under the "Network" category. "
I've checked for bluetooth driver updates and it says that none are available, I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the bluetooth drivers from the laptop. Sorry that this is a short novel, but I wanted to make sure to give all available details, any help or advice would be welcome. Thank you in advance.Hi Nt_winters,
Thank you for all the information, it is very useful. I understand you are having an issue with HP Pavilion dv6-3120us Notebook with Windows 7 and your new Plantronics Voyager Legend. In the device manager are all unknown devices removed as well as the Bluetooth devices for the headset? Broadcom is recommended for Plantronics Voyager Legend headsets. Here is a link to that driver.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

[Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t] Waking up from suspend not working properly
Hi,
I'm having some issues with getting suspend to work on my S10-3t. I tried pm-utils and the s2ram script (with about any combination of options as my machine is not on the whitelist) and always get the same behaviour: Suspending seems to succeed but waking up takes about 5 minutes.
I tried using pm-suspend under ubuntu 10.10, works flawlessly out of the box, so it *can* be done.. somehow.
Apparently this was a kernel related issue in older versions of ubuntu too, I couldn't quite figure out how they fixed it though (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/598664).
I tailed the pm-suspend.log and kernel.log through one suspend/wake up cycle, here's the output:
pm-suspend.log:

I have been trying to resolve the issue of suspend failing to resume on me Lenovo s10-3 (not the touch screen) for what seems an aeon.
A profound thank you to you all.
hpet=disable highres=off nohz=off
Works!
I now have no indication lights showing when the machine is suspended? But finally I can close the lid and reopen to resume - fantastic, this machine may finally see some more use.
I am running Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) running Gnome 3 with 3 series kernels (presently liquorix 3.4.0-4.dmz.1-liquorix-686) -
Suspend not working anymore after Kernel Update
Hello,
since I updated from 3.1.5 to 3.1.7 this morning the suspend functionality of my laptop does not seem to work anymore. I am using this command to suspend:
echo "mem" > /sys/power/state
After the laptop did something, the screen switches to the console with just one single white pointer. Then it is stuck and I have to switch off the power cable...
However, by using the most recent mainline kernel (3.1.7) in Ubuntu, the suspend function works perfectly there.

Remove your ill-advised /etc/asound.conf - it's bypassing dmix.
To make the correct soundcard the default, there's various methods - google it. -
Suspend not working on HP dv-5t
I have a HP dv5-t laptop with an NVIDIA graphis card and I can't get suspend or hibernate to work.
When I run pm-suspend with gnome running, the screen flashes off then tuns back on to a black screen.
If I close gnome and unload the nvidia module and run pm-suspend my laptop will successfully enter suspend, but I'm stuck with a black screen on boot.

Tue Apr 6 17:52:01 EDT 2010: Running hooks for resume
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99video resume suspend:Hello Ipha,
If you check the post http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=95328 you will see I am currently having a very similar problem with ATI instead of Nvidia: with KMS enabled I could not properly suspend.
I disabled KMS and then I can properly suspend but still having issues to resume: I get the screen on and can see the mouse pointer fine but nothing else except a black background. At this point, if I switch to console and kill the Xorg process then graphics start again inmediately with new Xorg process.
I am still looking for a a solution for this issue. After resume, could you please check if you can switch to console and and then kill the Xorg process?? Lets see what happens. If we are having the same issue, I would start thinking the blackscreen problem could be related to Xorg instead of ATI or Nvidia modules.
Looking forward for your feedback,
Daniel.
