[SOLVED] swap usage when there is plenty of ram availibale

Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is correct subforum, but here is the question
By default linux kernel uses swap partition even if there is lots of ram availiable. What's the purpose of this? And is there a way to turn this off in Arch.

We have 80GB of physical RAM, 32GB is set to oracle SGA_MAX_SIZE
memory parameters:

but still oracle is taking memory from swap even though we have enough physical memory.

and tried the disabling the sga_max_size and memory_max_target and memory target with all different combination but no use.
We have one more box where same setup was configured in solaris platform but there the above memory parameters are not disabled but it is not using swap space it takes memry only from physical RAM
Can any one throw some lights on this issue. It wopuld be great if I come to know where the exact problem

I didn't say I am not using 11gr2 memory parameters I am using all the automatic memory parameters but the thinks is as per the metalink note I tried by disabling the automatic memory parameters. but that didn't help me in preventing unnecessary swap usage. So I reverted. now it is using automatic memory parameters.
so What is the solution for this?

Did you get the flash drive from a reliable source. There are some available on the net that show a large capacity but are only 512 mb. or 1 gb. drives that have been altered to display a much larger capacity.

How do I get Cross Dissolves to work even when there is plenty of media

I have 10 minute movie with many different video segments. I have added cross dissolves throughout the movie, and many go in with no problem, I just drag and drop them, and then I can easily drag the dissolve longer or shorter. However, on about half of the clips, I can't add a dissolve. There is plenty of media available (most clips are about 10 or 15 seconds long). It won't let me drop a cross dissolve at all. Sometimes, it lets me drop the dissolve, but only on one of the two clips I want it, and when that happens, the dissolve is very short and it won't let me extend it. Again, there is plenty of media available, and it will let me use the dissolve on about half of the clips (all the clips are pretty much the same--same source, same file type, same length, etc.). I've tried some suggestions online, but most suggest that the problem is with available media--I don't think that's my problem. Any suggestions?

You don't have enough media.
Move your IN point a few seconds into the clip, and then drop it into the timeline.

I try to download an app and it tells me that there is not enough room when there is plenty

An app that is 1.9 GB is saying that there is not enough room to download, even though i have around 3 GB free.

The GB size of the download file is the compressed size (like .zip or .dmg). When the file is installed/uncompressed it can be 2-3 times larger.
You need to delete some files and not run with an almost full storage.
How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

CS5 "Not enough scratch memory available" error when there's plenty of it.

Illustrator CS5 throws this error:
Adobe Save For Web AI Error
Could not complete this operation. There is not enough scratch memory available.

when trying to save for web. The content has a lot of linked images, around 1000x1000 px each, used with clipping masks, drop shadows and glows at 300dpi.
I realize that this might be hard to flatten for JPEG and I'd be fine with long processing times (which I get) but out of memory?.. Here's my config:
Illustrator CS5
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Intel Core i7 920
6GB RAM
Total pagefile size: 24GB.
Primary scratch disk - 155GB free.
Secondary scratch disk - 544GB free.
Those are all gigabytes, not megabytes, no mistake. There's NO WAY that there's not enough scratch memory available.
And this is how the process looks:
Physical memory usage at this point is 62%, Commit charge - 15%.
Currently, I can work around this by making a screenshot of "Original" tab in Save for Web dialogue when it's there - because sometimes it's just a pink-filled window.
So, Adobe, any suggestions, please?

Illustrator CS5 has some improvements to how Raster Effects are rendered on screen. So even if you use 72ppi DRES, you would see very little/no difference compared to 300ppi DRES - i.e., pixelization issues would be almost non-existent.
Could you try this out & come back with your findings?
Also if you just want to send something to other people for Previews, maybe a PDF with the 'Smallest File Size' Preset be good enough. These can be viewed with the (free) Adobe Reader.

Error Importing - Disk Space when there is plenty of Space

Hello,
I am trying to import small .avi movies into iMovies. When I do, it states that there is a Error Importing due to not enough Disk Space. I have 24GB of disk space available, however, inside the iMovie application it states that there is only 20kb available. Has anyone come across this?

I had the same problem. The following steps worked for me.
1. In iTunes on my Mac, on the Summary page for my iPhone, under "Options" I clicked "sync only checked songs and videos."
2. On the "Music" page, I clicked Sync Music and then clicked "Selected playlists, albums," etc. underneath.
3. IMPORTANT! make sure that the "automatically fill free space with songs" is NOT clicked. My computer kept clicking that one automatically and I had to keep turning it off.
4. I clicked one playlist or album at a time and watched the status bar (below) to see how much space was being taken up (the blue line).
5. When I had as much music as I wanted, I clicked Apply.
It turned out that I had one play list which, for some unknown reason, had a huge number of songs on it and that was clogging up the works. When I unchecked it, I had enough room for the rest.

Getting lots of "NetStream.Play.InsufficientBW" when there's plenty of Bandwidth

We've upgraded our production servers to 3.5.3 on Windows 2008, and now I'm seeing a lot of "NetStream.Play.InsufficientBW" statuses in our client app's log. The server is streaming a very low bandwidth live video/audio stream, and the client has more than plenty of bandwidth to play it. The stream doesn't exhibit any audio drops or skipped frames, and there are no message drops on the server side. We have had clients complaining of random disconnects. Does anyone know why I might be getting this message? If anyone from Adobe could help with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

In addition, I'm getting reports that users are getting disconnected. After some arbitrary time, the server issues a "NetConnection.Connect.Rejected" for no reason, or at least none that I can find. Is this also a known issue? Please advise, since this is happening on our production systems. Should I roll back to 3.5.2?

I am publishing stream on Flash Media Streaming Server and receiving stream from Flash Media Streaming Server. Flash Media Interactive Server publish stream to live folder
"rtmp://xxx.xxx.xx.xx/live" Flash Media Streaming Server from server side code.
when application.onPublish of Interactive server dispatch then the stream published by interactive server has been republished to live of the streaming server and from there client receive stream by
making connection with live folder of Streaming server. Stream from streaming server received successfully but .....
After few minute at receiving side receiving netStream Object dispatch "NetStream.Play.InsufficientBW" and stop receiving stream.
Please help if anyone know any solution.

Printer wants me to load paper when there's plenty already there

I have an Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless. Every now and then it hangs up on a print job, telling me I need to load paper in the tray even though there's lots of paper already there. I have only one tray, but apparently some of these printers have the capacity for two. Maybe that's a part of the problem? I've tried everything I can think of. By the way, is there some way to send an email to HP describing the problem, or are we on our own as customers? Anyway, I'd appreciate advice if anyone has any. Thanks.

In addition the type of paper you are using can affect how well the printer picks it up. Recycled paper, while great for the environment doesn’t always pick correctly in printers. If you are using recycled paper try regular paper instead.

Syncing Error: iphone doesn't have enough space when there's plenty

When I sync my iPhone, I sync contacts, calendars, music, podcasts. I have the 8 gig.
The space meter bar shows blue, purple etc... and I'm only using 6 gigs.....
Here is the problem...
When I try to sync my iPhone back to my mac, it turns the space bar completely yellow and says it doesn't have enough space on my iPhone to sync. The error msg. only sees the amt. of space left (approx 2 gigs) after a full sync.
A full restore takes care of it, but I am having to restore every time I sync.
Itunes doesn't seem to overwrite the old info....it just tries to put the original 6 gigs on to my already full iPhone.
I have version 1.1.1 iPhone and version 7.4.2 (4) itunes
Is this an auto sync prob?
Any help?

Likely you have a corrupted file, they tend to wreak havoc on the phone. Try this...
Sync 1 section at a time, when you hit the culprit you will know which sync it is under.
Then you will need to work with that sync to try to locate the corrupt file, eliminate parts to see which part it is in. Weed it out, it will take time but you will eventually find the culprit.

Why does vault say iCloud Drive has insufficient space when there is plenty available?

I have 49.7GB of Aperture photo data that I want to back up to a Vault. I am running Yosemite and recently upgraded my iCloud drive to 200GB with only 13.7GB currently being used. When I set up a Vault using the iCloud drive it says I have insufficient space. Clearly I don't!
My iCloud account confirms that the space is available. Any suggestions please?

An Aperture vault cannot be stored in iCloud drive. If you put it on a synced volume it will be corrupted by syncing. Write your vault to a locally connected disk like described here for Aperture Libraries:

A vault is essentially an Aperture library, so the same holds. I tested putting Aperture libraries, vaults, and iPhoto Libraries onto iCloud Drive. After the first sync they needed repairing.
. When I set up a Vault using the iCloud drive it says I have insufficient space. Clearly I don't!
How much free space is on your Mac? You can only write files to iCloud Drive that will fit on all devices that are connected to iCloud Drive. iCloud Drive is not like an external disk - it is a shared storage for syncing your Macs. HT4623 How do I fix my iPhone 5 when it stops downloading updates and music, when there is plenty of storage space?

I just got my iPhone 5 a month ago and the last time I clicked on updates for a few of my apps, my phone has completely stopped downloading. The apps are stuck at waiting to update, which means they are unavailable for me to use. Plus, my newly downloaded music is stuck being unable to sync, so I manually added it to my phone through my macbook. I have tried restarting my phone, since I hadn't powered off in a while, but that had no effect. Any ideas/solutions?

I use an Apple AirPort Base Station to provide WiFi at home, the AirPort provides me with 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi frequency. For my iPhone WiFi setting I select the 5GHz Channel simply because it is faster than the 2.4GHz.
The downside to using the 5GHz is that it does not penetrate solid as well as the 2.4GHz frequency, so if you can select a 2.4GHz frequency that may well help.

Adobe Ilustrator giving me low ram error even though there is plenty of ram

One of my users is getting the message "The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available" error when opening a file in illustrator. I had them send me a screen show of the memory utilization in task manager and it is at 28%. Can anyone offer any insight on why this might be happening? They are requesting that more RAM be added to the machine but being that it already has 16gb installed I'd like to rule out any other issues before jumping to that step.

Memory errors have nothing to do with actual lack of RAM. The file is damaged or references a potentially critical external component like a specific printer driver whose info has been stored in the file, a font, a color profile, a linked image or whatever. You need to figure out those problems instead of blindly throwing more resources art the program. As a start, try to open the file on another system. If it works you can limit the investigation to the specific machine and even if it doesn't it may give you a more meaningful warning that helps to diagnose the error.

I have the same problem. It is only with tv shows and only with programs I have downloaded after the software update.
Apple support sent me the above link too....but it doesn't solve the problem...my computer is authorized and the content is in my library and will play on my Mac air, but it will not sync the tv shows, it keeps saying my computer isn't authorized for it.
