[SOLVED] synaptics no tap click.

I cannot get tapping to work on my touchpad, at least at each restart of X, tapping is lost until I launch gsynaptics and check the box again It become unchecked when I logout.
I tried to use the stock synaptics hal fdi file, and looking at Xorg.0.log:

Suggests that it has taken effect and 1-3 fingers tapping SHOULD be enabled, but no. I still have to manually run gsynaptics and check that box on tapping.
Any suggestions?

You are using hal, and it is running, right?  I only ask because of the buzz over Xorg 1.8 and the impending demise of hal.
In addition to kazuo's suggestion, you might also look at the appropriate section of the output of lshal  Here is the appropriate part of mine:

Just wanted to know if the tapping click in the trackpad will work or not under windows xp.
    Thanks.

I have not been able to tap the trackpad as a click in XP at all.
I also don't think that the fn key was functional until I installed a little utility that allows one to press that and click the trackpad button to get a right click.
I'd link you to that little thing but I can't for the life of me remember where I found it.

  • Tap clicking touchpad causes mouse pointer to move (ALPS)

Usually when tap clicking on a touchpad, any pointer movements are suppressed as a tap is detected. This does not happen on my Arch machine. Whenever I tap click, the mouse pointer jumps several pixels in some direction.
    How can I stop this?
(Arch is fully updated and since kernel 3.3 my touchpad is detected as "AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad".)

  • How can I turn off touchpad tap click?

I need to turn off the tap click on the touchpad of my dv4.  I turned it off when I first got the laptop a little more than a year ago, but apparently something in a recent upgrade turned it back on.  There is no icon in the task bar to change the properties like there was before.  There is nothing under mouse properties related to the touchpad or tapping.  I don't like the tap click.  It really messes me up when I am typing.  I know I can easily turn the touchpad on and off, but that is not a good solution.

The Touchpad on my HP Mini 210-1015TU is a nuisance when I am typing so I had it disabled.    For some unknown reason it has suddenly been enabled again.   Can anyone please tell me how I can DISABLE THE TOUCHPAD so I can use the normal mouse via the USB port.   Thanks!

  • No Tap Click Preference in 10.5.8???

So, I have the original Black MacBook and was previously running 10.4 Tiger with TapClick capabilities. I've upgraded to 10.5.8 with the same machine but now in Systems Preferences under Trackpad there is no option for Tap Click. Am I missing something!? I want my Tap Click back.

I would post this in the appropriate MacBook usage forum.

  • Macbook air gesture tap-click wont work

I have a macbook air OS X 10.8.5, the gesture tap-click, secondary click and 3 finger drag wont work after I restarted the macbook.. Anyone knows how to fix this??

Well, It seems your track pad is working, I would restart the machine again, and see if the tap gesture will work. Sometimes I have trouble with the tap gesture, because I have to use the center of the pad of my finger; if I hit the track pad the wrong way, the gesture does not register. I gave an older machine to my Aunt, and she has problems with the tap gestures also, but I know the track pad works, because it was my machine.
If you can't resolve the issue, take the machine back to the Apple store.

  • IPad tap (click) timeout?

I am developing a web app (Javascript) for the iPad and I detect the touchstart and touchend events to detect touches and taps (and to get rid of the 300ms tap delay). This works fine.
However I feel that if I tap many buttons in sequence, some taps are not registered because I moved my finger between touchstart and touchend.
So I thought of a timeout, that if touchend is called within e.g. 100ms from touchstart it is registered as a tap.
OR maybe it is better to check how far the finger moved (maybe allow 10-15 pixels move)?
What is a good timeout (100ms?) or pixel area (10-15px?)?
    Thank you!

I'm really having a problem with this as well.
I have a MBP from March 08, my trackpad started randomly failing to tap click in about September, I have applied all the updates from apple and am running 10.5.6, nothing seems to have helped so far. I have tried trashing these preferences and resetting it.
    HD > User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.universalaccess.plist & com.apple.systempreferences.plist
tried rebooting holding down various keys to reset various things, all to no avail.
If anyone can think of any other ideas please help as this is driving me mad as its only fixed by a restart, un-ticking and re-ticking tap to click in system pref's or if you wait a while it might start working again!!
I think these problems are all linked:

  • [SOLVED] synaptics right-click

How do I get synaptics right-click to work on my laptop?
I added the following to xorg.conf:

I found that this settings are working for me:
    http://andreascarpino.it/2010/04/xorg-1 … iguration/
I tried to remove the options one by one and the minimal xorg.conf that gets two-finger tap right-click is the one below.
It seems like the "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" is determinant; if I remove it, right-click doesn't work.
    Does anyone know why?
    So this is my xorg.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "touchpad"
    Driver "synaptics"
    MatchIsTouchpad "on"
    Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "0"
    EndSection
I forgot to mention that xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf contains this, and it looks like xorg.conf is read after this file.
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "touchpad catchall"
    Driver "synaptics"
    MatchIsTouchpad "on"
    Option "TapButton1" "1"
    Option "TapButton2" "2"
    Option "TapButton3" "3"

  • Synaptics Touchpad Tap Lag, FastTaps Option Gone

I own an Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A with a clickpad. Under the Synaptics driver, I'm trying to use tap-to-click. With the default settings, there is a very noticeable lag between when I tap and the tap is registered, which I'm sure many of you have heard of and fixed by now. Usually, I just set FastTaps to true, and everything's great. However, in the latest version of xf86-input-synaptics, FastTaps is missing. I can set "SingleTapTimeout" to 0, which does make tapping instant, but then the tap-and-drag gesture is impossible (tapping twice and dragging on the second one). Is there some way to set equivalent functionality to FastTaps in the latest Synaptics?

WonderWoofy wrote:Instead of just looking for the same parameter that is apparently not there, maybe you should read (or search) though the page for other settings that might help you.  I found the answer in about two seconds.
First off, I'd like to thank you for pushing me to figure out the problem myself and not telling me the answer; I understand that I shouldn't rely on others to solve all of my Linux problems. However, I have already done as you've told me; I have read and searched through the man page for any relevant information regarding FastTaps and taps in general; I've tried playing with various values for SingleTapTimeout, MaxDoubleTapTime, MaxTapTime, ClickTime, etc. So, I think I have good reason to believe that either the solution isn't obvious or I am really ignorant or something. I know it's probably just as, if not more, frustrating to see someone unable to fix a simple touchpad issue on the forums as it is for me trying to fix it, but could you please help me out a little?

  • [solved] Synaptics Touchpad works in GDM but not in Gnome Session

    Hey,
i just installed arch x86_64 to a Amilo Pa 3553 Notebook with synaptics touchpad driver.
It's working in gdm perfectly but after login i cannot click, wether tabbing nor klicking.
But i can move the coursor.
Touchpad is recognized in Xorg.log without any errors or warnings.
    Any Idea what went wrong?
    SOLVED
It was just a check in the gnome touchpad settings at "Mausklick per Touchpad freischalten".
Sorry, i don't know in english, but it means something like "activate Click per touchpad"

I too am having the same problem. This only seems to happen after I connect to a projector by the VGA port on my Lenovo T500. I use the display port to connect to a 30" apple cinema display and have no issues. Have not had much luck in finding what changes in the gnome config when this problem arises.
I am looking forward to anyone being able to explain what is actually changing and why. WIll continue to dig into this and post a workaround if I find one.

Instead of using execution statements involving
    synclient
on startup of X I'm now using /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf for configuring my settings. This solved the problem.
I realized by the way that in my former setup no matter how many fingers I used for pressing down the ClickPad it did always perform a normal click in addition. That is why the context menu disappeared right away: It performed a mixture of a right and left click.
@Head_on_a_Stick: No Problem, your attempt to help is much appreciated

  • [SOLVED] Synaptics touchpad problem eeepc 1000HE

I installed Arch on my eeepc 1000HE yesterday and configured / used it happily for most of the day - but then it developed a touchpad problem which I'm struggling to fix.
If you lift your finger from the touchpad the mouse cursors 'forgets' / 'resets' its position.
eg When you put your finger back on the touchpad the cursor jumps to a different position. For one thing, this means you can't tap to click, because when you lift your finger to tap, the cursor jumps somewhere else (usually a slight move, but usually away from the item one wants to click).
Also, when needing a few swipes (eg to move the cursor left to right across the screen), the cursor jumps away from its current position (to the left - sort of back to its original starting position) each time I lift my finger to make the extra swipe.
The problem seems to have started when I had a tv plugged in via the vga and was managing screen switching with xrandr and the screen-switch function key (I'm trying to set up the eeepc as a mythtv frontend) but this could be coincidence.
    Some settings etc -

I thought the issue might be related to this https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/20830 , but adding MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf didn't make a difference.
My Daemons array looks like this -
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus !network wicd netfs crond lircd samba alsa !hal sshd gdm)
Removing the ! before hal made no difference.
I am using gnome. Changing the settings in  the /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/ folder with gconf-editor makes no difference to the problem.
I am using kernel 2.6.38-ARCH. Using the fallback kernel didn't help.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Update. After some more searching the forum I thought downgrading udev may help. Since I had a fresh install I needed to install the AUR downgrade package. I did a yaourt -Suy before doing so which, amongst other things, installed a new kernel (4-1) and upgraded yajl. When I tried yaourt -S downgrade I got an error re yajl - error while loading shared libraries libyajl.so.1, canot open shared object file, no such file or directory, and then "error: target not found: dowgrade".
    Any help really appreciated.

  • Synaptics Touchpad Tap Scroll settings changed back to defaults on every reboot. Windows 10

After the Windows 10 upgrade my Synaptics Touchpad setings seem to be reset to factory defaults on every reboot.  I go in and change to deselect Tap and Scroll gesture options, save, and everything works as expected.  If I reboot my pc... all of my changes are erased. I go to Start >Settings > Mouse and Touchpad > Additional Mouse Options > Device Settings > Settings Right after boot:  MultiFinger Gestures (selected)  Scrolling (deselected)  Tapping (selected)  Buttons (selected) After change manually and saved:
MultiFinger Gestures (deselected)  Scrolling (deselected)  Tapping (deselected)  Buttons (selected) Rebooted again... and back to initial defaults (Arg!!!)  Can anyone suggest a fix?

Hello! I just wanted to share a solution to this issue. I've been having this issue ever since I started the Windows 10 insider program so it's sad that Microsoft didn't fix it before release. Anyway let's get started! The first thing you will want to do is uninstall the Synaptics Driver. Right click on the start button and click programs and features. Find the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and uninstall it. You will eventually need to restart your PC but do not do that yet otherwise it will just reinstall itself. Next your going to want to Hide the update from Windows Update. To do this on Windows 10 you need to download a tool which can be found here. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 Run the tool it will begin detecting problems and searching for updates. You will get two options, Hide Updates or Show hidden updates. Click on Hide updates and on the list you will see the Synaptics Driver, place a checkmark on it and then click next. Let the wizard finish and you've successfully hidden the Synaptics pointing device driver. Next open settings and click on Update & security, click recovery on your left, and then click restart now under advanced startup. Next click on troubleshoot. Then at the choose an option screen, click advanced options, click on startup settings, and click restart. Once your computer restarts you'll see startup settings. Press the number 7 to disable driver signature enforcement. Your computer will now boot up. Login and open your web browser and go to this link http://www.synaptics.com/en/drivers.php Download the latest synaptic's driver for Windows 8 and install it. Once installed, you maybe prompted to reboot so go ahead and reboot the computer. After that, go into your mouse settings and configure your touchpad to your liking. You will not have to worry about losing your settings after restarting the pc anymore. I suggest keeping the tool that allows you to hide or show hidden updates as it is quite handy.
    Summary:
    1.) Uninstall the Synaptics Driver
2.) Hide the Driver Update for Synaptics using this tool: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
3.) Go to Settings, Update & security, recovery, advanced start [restart now]
4.) Click troubleshoot, advanced options, startup settings [restart now]
5.) Press the number 7 to disable driver signature enforcement
6.) Download the latest synaptic's driver for Windows 8 from the website. http://www.synaptics.com/en/drivers.php
7.) Reboot the computer if necessary.
8.) Configure your mouse settings to your liking.

    Hi!
I'm having problems with my synaptics touchpad configuration. I've read some of the topics on the bbs, but none really helped. I'm now stuck with enabling the driver for Xorg (I think), because it seems that while it's configured properly - at least for HAL:

Hmm, perhaps you would find the Synaptics ArchWiki article helpful.  All this Hal nonsense aside, the core synaptics drivers has changed and some settings need to be adjusted accordingly--the wiki has those details.
