[SOLVED] Typing problem (I can't type anything anywhere) on Linux

I've just installed SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40 and I'm running it on Java 1.6.0_07 on a Linux machine. I've downloaded the Oracle SQL Developer for other platforms, because my Linux ditribution is Debian, and there was no specific installer. I was able to run it without any trouble, added successfuly my connection, connected without issues, but when I wanted just to type a single SELECT statement just to test if all was working, I couldn't type any kind of key on the keyboard. I tried to restart SQL Developer, and test again, but the same happened. Tried then to open a table and to type anything on the 'Where' clause, but the same happened. It just blocked any kind of user typing. Can you tell me what could this be?

Well, sorry about the problem and thanks for the answer.
I solved it out. I had a starter for sqldeveloper that, before calling the proper sqldeveloper starter, it called > export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit to solve past problems on rendering of the program window, and just removing/commenting that line, it started working the right way.
Again, sorry about this problem, because it is not because of sqldevelper but with platform-specific issues.

You are planning to do a number of things, so let me first make a suggestion about the overall approach. Instead of: "Before I make a clone of my hard drive I would like to fix this problem so I only have one account with everything in it but I do not know what to move ... or how to safely move it", I would make that clone immediately. And leave it alone until you have completed the reconfiguring and rearrangements you plan to do. This way, if you accidentally do something that needs to be undone, your clone is there with all the originals. By the way, this is the approach I always adopt, whenever I have to do anything drastic with an existing installation.
After all the rearranging etc. of the main drive you just make a new clone that erases the previous one.
The "Deano" account doesn't show up when I go to System Preferences:Accounts. So I assume I must have done something wrong.
This would suggest to me there is only one account, i.e. the principal, or Admin account. Why do you think there is a second account?
Where should I keep all my work files?
You can keep them where ever it is most convenient. As you know, you can create folders within folders, and there is nothing special about the Documents folder. Feel free to ignore it, if that's the way you want to work. You can direct your downloads, the default "save to" locations etc. to the appropriate places, as you work.
Can I create a new place for all my work files and just move them? I know I will have to update linked files within the various software packages but this is not a problem.

Since last night I can open email but not the body of it, nor can I type anything in a new message. Everything else looks normal.
I am having the same problem. As recently as this morning, I could read entire hotmail emails on my iPhone 4 now, I can see only the sender & subject. What us up? Any solutions? Thank you.

I have a client that uses Windows that has recently told me she can no longer open the PDFs I send her. I can't find this elusive "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" setting that I have read may solve my problem. Can someone get me there?

It was from InDesign that I was creating the shared pdfs. I was one of two Mac drivers in a corporate sea of Win users and had to make the change I mentioned in order for the Win users to see my pdfs for review. The difference from what you appear to be doing was that were all on an MS Exchange Server so the files were shared over the company's Exchange Server e-mail system. However, some of these files occasionally went to outside users via regular e-mail and those people had no issues either.
So what I did was tested and worked for years.
You might look at the Adobe forums or Knowledge Base to see if that is a reported issue with newer version of CS. I was on CS2 when I was doing this, and the other Mac driver was on CS3 but had no problems either.
Some Win users I've talked to find a problem opening some pdfs (not mine) in general and found they had to open Reader first and them open the file from Reader's File menu. That most often happened if the client was using an outdated version of Reader. -

When I install Windows 8 on my MacBook Pro(13-inch,Early2011),the Super DVD Drive doesn't appear in Windows 8 and installing Boot Camp 5 drivers doesn't solve my problem,what can I do?
Go into your system preferences and click the startup disk icon then select your Mac HD.

I can't type anything into a tab
When I start Firefox, I try to type a url into the tab, but I can't type anything there.
Try to open a new window to see if that gives you a working location bar.

I mistakenly moved my apple keyboard layout bundle to the trash can and now I am unable to log onto my computer. I can't type anything so I can't access my account to get back onto my computer.
restart and hold Command+r to enter in recovery mode and ill allow you to repair your OS X installation. If you cannot repair it, then just create a new user, as usually issues with keyboards are rooted in the user's account.

IChat problem - is router the problem and can I do anything to solve it?
I am in Ireland at the moment visiting my family. We all have Macs - IBook G4, MacBook and mine is MacBook (new this August). I can use iChat (video etc) with my family back in the U.S. and with my brother-in-law who lives in Ireland. The problem is with a iBookG4, which my sister has. She has a Netopia router with Eircom (on DSL). We've been able to video conference with each other in the same house, but neither of us can do a video conference with anyone else, so we think that the problem is with the router. It is "Type 0X21" and has 12 VDC, 800mA - this is written on the backside of it. Not sure if that means anything, but I thought I would include it, just in case. Is there anything I can do via either computer to access the firewall(s) in the router that I could change? Or any other suggestions? I have already set the Quicktime speeds etc. like suggested in other forums. And as I can iChat very successfully from my brother-in-law's house, I guess the problem does not lie within my computer.
Thanks - GeraldineI was able to solve the problem. I contacted Eircom and the agent told me to set my firewall at "low" - and that helped for a while. I was able to video conference from my computer and my sister's. Then they both stopped working again. My husband did some research (not sure where) but he gave me some port numbers to add and that seemed to do the trick. Once in a while I cannot make a connection, but I think that is due to traffic on the DSL.
Just in case this might help some other Irish iChatter with Eircom and Netopia

Apple Menu ->System Preferences ->,from View Menu ->Sharing ->Firewall tab -> New ->Port ->Other ->Port Number (Range or Series Field) type in:
5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5678
In the Description Field type in: iChat AV.
Click OK.

Can't type anything if i'm in a video game
Hello, since yesterday I have a really big issue, when I try to type something on skype while a video game is running in the background, it just doesnt work. There's a sort of huge latency that happens only on skype, others softwares such as firefox or steam aren't affected and work well.
Skype works perfectly when no game is running, same when I'm running little games such as counter strike source or Minecraft. It starts bugging when I play games with huge graphics (heroes of the storm or marvel heroes).
I really have no idea what to do about it, this problem is really weird because it happened for no reason (I didnt download anything), the games works extremly smoothly so there's no reason for skype to slow down (only 3,5go out of my 8go of ram is used and only 30% of the CPU is used when I play so it's not struggling). And i've tried everything, cleaning the hard disk, reinstal windows... But nothing works :/
So basically, I can't type messages when I'm playing video games because skype decides to slow down for a really unknow reason... If any of you had the same trouble, could you tell me what's going on, please

Go to Solution.Hi there, im also having this problem, i tried running most of the games on my system, and some that are considered "high end" games, are giving me the exact same problem, but other games are running and im able to message fine, i also got some friends to send me messages, and i can recieve messages perfectly, also i noticed moving the actual window around on the screen or just closing down skype also lags. I have 16GB of ram and 4.4Ghz Octa-Core CPU, i checked my load while on the high end games and it there was more than enough hardware usage left like normal for skype to run, and skype wasnt taking any extra up than before. I also checked by bandwidth and i was having no problems with that as skype would lag even on offline games.
I have tried re-installing under a different directory and still the same problem persists, this has only been a problem within the last 24hrs and i haven't installed any other programs that could affect this at the moment.
*UPDATE* I tried downgrading to an older version of skype, 6.3.0.107. Problem Still persists -
When I click on a new tab, I can't type anything in.
Up until a little while ago, when I clicked on the + sign for a new tab, a large blank box would drop down where I could type in the URL. Now that isn't happening and I am not able to type anything in. I can browse history, but if I want a new URL or want to do a search, I can't do anything.
Check which toolbars are set to be displayed. The Location/URL bar and the Search bar are on the Navigation Toolbar. Only the checked toolbars are displayed; click on any not checked to place a check mark if you want them displayed.

Help! I can't type anything on my keyboard
I recently play the game on my Mac, then for some reason, my iMac stop working, so I have to restart my iMac.
After I restart my iMac, everything come up normally. Then I found that my keyboard is not working, I try to typed my password, but I can't.
Only some key work like enter button, Esc button. I can't type any letter or number! Please help!

That has not been my experience with our Macbook Air with its Apple wireless keyboard. With that wireless keyboard, when the batteries are replaced, one just needs to push the power button once on the end of the keyboard to turn it back on and it immediately "remembers" the computer it was paired with. In fact my daughter ran down her keyboard batteries at college back in March and waited for me to replace the keyboard batteries when she came home in mid-May, so they were really dead, and it knew immediately the computer it had been paired with as soon as I pushed the power button. We have a wired keyboard around here also but never had to use it.
There may be something else going on here because he said that two keys do work on his keyboard but the others don't. I agree with the earlier suggestion to try a wired keyboard. If the wired keyboard works, then the problem is with the wireless keyboard. -
I can't type anything in Finder!
I thought something was wrong with my keyboard, but this only happens in Finder. I can't type in the search field. I can't rename a file after I've selected it.
I haven't done anything to any preferences or loaded any new software in a while - this just started today.
I reset my keyboard preferences to the default but that didn't help.

Have you tried creating a new account and see how your Finder works in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.)
Open System Preferences > Accounts > "+" make it an admin account.
If this works, then log back into your problem account and navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

Today, I cannot type anything. In notes, reminders, email, safari, facebook, every time I go to put the curser on a spot to type, or try to add another note, the phone jumps out of the file I am in and goes to the main desktop page. It worked around 7 PM when I was checking something online while I was out, but when I was back home and tried to update one of the notes I update daily (I am keeping a log), this started happening. It won't go to the typewriter keys (it flashes them for a second and then everything disappears and I am at home page again. When I clicked the bottom middle button, a black screen with the white apple appeared but my icon page came back when I pressed it again. I shut down and immediately opened again, thinking a reboot would help but it didn't. I have it shut down for the night and tomorrow if same problem I will call Verizon. Wednesday, I tried to check my calendar to see what day was best to schedule something, and none of the entries were there... not even the birthdays. I use iPhone calendar as my main calendar and have all my appointments stored there. That did come back about an hour later when I went to add an appointment.
I am hoping this new problem fixes itself with an overnight shutdown and morning reboot. Wish me luck.This is a pretty bizarre situation, Grandma_Patches. I would suggest backing up your phone to iTunes, completing a restore of your device and then the update. I'm confident that this will address and resolve your concerns. Keep me posted.
