[Solved] Wallpapers disappear after running nemo

Hi All,
I did search for my issue in the forums but found nothing (maybe the keyword "wallpaper" I used is too broad). I'm using gnome 3.10 and nemo 2.0.0. I create a file like adwaita-timed.xml to display the wallpapers:

It works fine until I run nemo. Then the wallpaper is black and it's still black even after I close nemo. Does anybody know what's wrong with my machine?

You need to disable the desktop icons feature in Nemo: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nemo#Configuration

[ SOLVED ] Network disappears after a few reboots

I have tried to install Arch twice and both times after rebooting it several times network connection disappears ( i.e., daemon starts ok, but no connection is preset ).
By looking at the error.log, it seems that dhcpcd fails to obtain requested IP address ( nothing specified in rc.conf ).
Is there anything I might be missing or it is a know problem ( saw the same question somewhere else ) ?

Files disappeared after running disk utility disk repair but still space still remains. how do i recover the files?

stupidly repaired my external hard disk without backing it up via mavericks's disk utility repair option.
After the repair, all my folders disappeared but at the same time I noticed that the disk space still remained the same. Is there anyway to get these files back? My thesis is on it.

General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Server command window disappears after running

Hi,
I have been having major problems with BEA weblogic. I'm just trying to run samples
from their book and I got things to work using version 6.1 which I downloaded
from the site but when it came to Entity Beans, the sample wouldn't work. So I
installed the 6.0 version from the CD and now the server itself doesn't run. When
I Start the Server from the Start Menu, the command window pops up and then just
disappears (at least for teh examples Server). The Default Server opens a command
window, asks for my password (which it prints to the screen by the way...it's
not supposed to do that) and then disappears. I don't know what to do!!
Any suggestions is really truly absolutely appreciated!!

See where that shortcut points and go to that directory to execute that start
script from command prompt, then you can see the exact exception it will be
throwing....
may be wrong start-up password i guess...

OTBI - Prompt value disappears after running report

Hello All,
Fairly new to the cloud work-space with its reporting tools.
When we try to run the report, the prompts are visible for the first time the report. Upon selecting the values, and running report, the prompts disappear. I tried setting the prompts on the side of the page as well as top of page. Both times, the prompts disappears.
Any thoughts?

We need to add a tag in the instanceconfig.xml file to achieve this.
Stop the services and place the below given tag in instanceconfig.xml
<PersistPageState>FALSE</PersistPageState>
The tag can be placed anywhere between the server instance tags in instanceconfig.xml.
Restart the services and login into the application and check by setting some values in the prompts.

App updates don't disappear after running in OS7

App updates appear in App Store. I push 'update' and they update. But then the icon sits in the app updates section of my account. They won't go away. This has only started to happen after I updated to OS 7. Bug?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.

[SOLVED] No video thumbnails in 'Nemo' after update 1.8.5-1 2.0.*

Some week ago Nemo was update from 1.8.5-1 to 2.0.0-2, and after that Nemo could not create new video thumbnails.
I downgrade Nemo to 1.8.5-1 (and gnome-desktop 1:3.10.1-1 to 1:3.8.4-1) and then video thumbnails work again. I have tried every new Nemo version since, but it's the same.
I only use Openbox, no DE. And I use ffmpegthumbnailer.
Does anybody have an idea of what could be wrong..?

The problem was that under:
Edit > Preferences > Preview > Other Previewable Files > Only for files smaller than: >
it was set to '1 MB', edit that to a bigger size solved my problem, and my video thumbnails is back again!

Filesystem check failed after running upgrades [Solved]

I have a new arch installation with /home, /tmp, /var, and /usr mounted on an LVM partition. After running the updates I get a "Filesystem Check Failed" error message. It then dumps me into the terminal in read-only mode, giving me the option for read/write... which doesn't matter, because without access to vi (which is on /usr o the LVM partition) I can't access anything anyway. / and /boot test clean, but it's not recognizing the LVM. Any help would be appreciated.

Figured it out... the miserable thing couldn't make up it's mind which drive to label sda.

After running /etc/rc.d/alsa stop there is still sound why? [SOLVED]

Because of the way I want my install to behave instead of appending alsa to the end of the daemons line in /etc/rc.conf I opt to start alsa manually when/if needed with
/etc/rc.d/alsa start
It works well but after I go
/etc/rc.d/alsa stop
and some time later
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
I still hear sound? Why?
By the way if it helps any after running
/etc/rc.d/alsa stop

See I looked at the script and even though my knowledge of bash is sadly limited I saw in the stop) case somehow if something else goes right it should say "Stopping Alsa". Thus I think that is supposed to happen why isn't it? What's going on? How do I fix this?

Tomk what you say is somewhat true. However the wiki doesn't quite explain what I want to know or if it does it explains it in a way I don't understand. I'm trying my best to learn this stuff but being relatively inexperienced there are limits to what I can do thus I ask a question here in the hopes of learning and being given the information in a form that I understand.
schmmd while I could certainly mute the volume that's not what I want. This may sound strange but what I want is a system that boots up to the command line in a very minimal fashion. I don't automatically want an internet connection. I don't automatically want a GUI. I don't automatically want sound. If I want any of these things I want to be able to start and stop them manually. Like if I want to connect to the internet I go
/etc/rc.d/network start
and when I want to disconnect I go
/etc/rc.d/network stop
It all works as expected. However sound doesn't. It starts when I want it but it doesn't stop when I want it. Perhaps I don't know how to use the script. When I go start it works as expected. When I go stop it still makes sounds.
I don't understand what's happening. Can you guys please help me?

Concerning the last lines: I removed esound and audiofile because pacman reported that it isn't used by any package any more. Maybe also interesting: I still have kernel 2.6.39 installed since I had some issues with 3.0. Maybe something has been changed to work with 3.0 and is broken with 2.6 now?
I don't really know how to start troubleshooting. speaker-test -c 2 doesn't produce any sound. Restarting alsa seems succesfull but doesn't make the sound appear, too. The loaded modules seem fine, too:

Concerning the hardware: The motherboard has an integrated sound chip but it isn't used (or it shouldn't be), the speakers are connected to an Audigy 2ZS PCI card, whose module (snd_emu10k1 as reported by alsaconf) seems to be loaded. Btw, running alsaconf didn't solve the problem, too.

Okay, my sound is working again. I fixed the problem by changing two settings in the pulse audio volume control. The first was to turn off the RV710/730 Digital Stereo (HDMI) output device and the second was to change the Internal Audio profile to Analog Surround 5.1 Output. I don't know if the settings will remain after a reboot or some other change, but they work for now.
