Some AAC files won't play in iTunes 10.5

I am experiencing two problems with some of my AAC files in iTunes:
1. Every time I sync my iPod with my Mac running iTunes 10.5 the following message appears:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library, including Revelation, were not copied to the iPod LeBaron because you are not authorized for them on this computer. To authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes store, choose Store > Authorize This Computer. For a list of items that could not be copied, click the triangle below."
When I attempt to authorize my computer the following message appears:
"This computer is already authorized. Including this one, you have authorized one computer out of your available 5."
-AND-
2. When I try to play any song in iTunes from the above mentioned list of songs the following message appears:
"This computer is not authorized to play Revelation. Would you like to authorize it? To play this song you must authorize this computer to play songs purchased using the account sheamets86. You may authorize up to 5 computers for each account."
When I sign in with my Apple ID and password the following message appears:
"This computer is already authorized. Including this one, you have authorized one computer out of your available 5."
Some of the songs on this list were part of a free iTunes sampler from the Monterey Jazz Festival and the others, to be honest, I can't remember where I got. How can I get around the two above-mentioned problems? (I have already tried burning them, but iTunes will not allow them to be burned)

I think I have the same problem. Every time I play some HD movies in iTunes the movie seems to be stuck and the screen black. If I scrub the movie forward I can see the picture, even captions, but I can't play them. I said some because there are certain movies that DO play. I mean HD ones, SD video plays fine. But I couldn't find any clue. It's not a matter of file size, neither a matter of resolution, compressio... I'll wait for an update (system and/or iTunes) and if nothing happens I think I'll dig a little more. This is no big issue for me since they ALL seem to play perfectly when I select AirPlay to my Apple TV.

  • HD movie and tv show files won't play in iTunes 10.6.3.

Just did a fresh install of Mountain Lion and for some reason now HD movie and tv show files won't play.  I get a black screen.
Standard Def tv shows and movies are still playing fine though.
Oh and  yes I already tried switching it to 32-bit mode via the "Get Info" screen.  Same problem results.
    Any suggestions?

  • Radio files won't play in iTunes

Please help. I have been searching the support and discussion areas for 2 days and can't figure out my problem. Some radio files will play when opened in iTunes; others won't. From reading the posts and ideas, I've eliminated several things:
    - increased the buffer to Large; no change.
    - tried the buffer at different levels; no change.
    - tried both pls and m3u files. Work from some stations and not from others.
    - Checked the size of files. can play 64 kpbs some times, others not. Sometimes small files 24 kbps won't work.
    - Checked the number of listeners; well within maximum but files wouldn't work.
    - Tried files from the same station - wshu.org - at different times on different days. Sometimes will work, sometimes won't.
    - Can't get any downloads from wliu.org to work, either pls or m3u.
What happens is that I'll go to the website, click on the download link. iTunes opens the file, tries to connect, and then stops. The file looks like it can be played; I'll press play. It starts to connect and then stops.
This also happens with some radio stations within iTunes. I tried 5-6 different NPR stations at various speeds. Some would follow the above behavior, some would work.
I'm going nuts. Can anyone help?
    System:
    iTunes 7.4(54)
    QuickTime 7.1.5
    MacOSX 10.4.10
I use a satellite connection, but work with fairly large graphics files and don't have trouble downloading or uploading.
    Thanks,
    Amanda

Look in your music library in iTunes - you probably have several entries for wliu (the one I tested). When I clicked on their PLS feed, it appears to load into iTunes but goes immediately to the next song in my library. But I can double click the wliu entry and I get the station.

  • Homemade AAC File won't play

I am a writer and one of my tricks of the trade is to get the "Alex" or "Victoria" voices to read a long text file and encode it into iTunes, which then compresses it into a standard AAC audio file.  I then plug in my iPhone and I can listen to my work, with the relentless, unforgivening computer voice faithfully recreating every typo and gramatical error.  It makes it easy to proof read later when I already know much of the errors.
I've recently tried to turn this function over to Match.  It SEEMS like I should work, but it doesn't.  It faithfully uploads the files to iCloud, and downloads them to the iPhone...  but they are dimed.  Can't be played.  Note, if I sync them by wire, they work, but by match, they don't.
Anybody have any idea what could casue this?

Open the file (on a Mac) using QuickTime and open the Movie Info window. Report back what codecs and formats are in the file.
The (-2048) error message usually means the format is MPEG-2 and it requires the QuickTime PMEG-2 Playback Component to view.
You could also try installing the free VLC app (Windows version) to play the file.

  • Protected AAC files won't play on authorized computer

I have a two year old computer with iTunes 10 that plays both Purchased AAC and Protected AAC songs fine.
I just moved my iTunes files to a new computer with iTunes 10 and authorized the computer.  It will play Purchased AAC songs fine, but when I try to play a Protected AAC file it says I have to authorize the computer.  When I do that again, it says that the computer is already authorized and that I have authorized 4 of my possible 5 computers.  But when I try again to play the Protected AAC song, it does the same thing all over again.
Why can't I play music I have already paid for on one of my "authorized" computers?

Your post is more informative than any of the punks at the apple store and the email-only (!!!) itunes support they refered me to. Basically, my wife is having the same issue with her old library. She has an old @aol.com as the "user name". When I try to play one of these old songs (that I copied from her old laptop onto my desktop for a consolidated, shared library) I get that pop up, "This computer is not authorized to play "[song title]". Would you like to authorize it?" The 'Apple ID' auto populates with [heremail]@aol.com. You mentioned that you used your name and also your apple ID. What is the difference, and how can I enter it differently in the pop-up? I have tried manually typing in her (maiden) name, with and without a space, also the [heremail] without the @aol.com, then entering the password that we know of, and still nothing.
Sorry to bring up old issues, but I could really use the help. She has over 2000 purchased songs and they can't be played on anything but the ipod that hasn't been synced in years.
Also, when I log into her old iTunes account in the iTunes store, there are only about a dozen songs in the Purchased section. ***??? This makes me think there is a real issue with the iTunes system.
Like I said, apple was ZERO help with this. The emails that we received were sent to us by a person who probably bangs her head against brick walls for fun.
Also, I have set all the permissions to the folders and files so both her and my login have read/write.
    Thanks in advance.

  • MP3 files won't play in iTunes (Vista), but will play in WMP/iTunes (Mac)

I have a strange problem that's starting to get incredibly frustrating!
Have a wonderful Mac (powerbook g4 1.5 ghz), got a new PC recently, running Vista and iTunes 7.5.0.20, and transferred my iTunes library over.
I've found that a significant number of MP3 files (maybe 5% of a library of 5397 songs) refuse to play on iTunes, but play just fine in Windows Media Player or in iTunes on my Mac.
The problematic files exhibit the following symptoms:
If I double click one of the files to play it (or hit the play button), nothing happens
If I set album art to show for the selected song, I get the mesage "Album Artwork Not Modifiable" in the album art box
If I try to convert one of the files to MP3, I get the error "Error occurred while converting the file "foo". An unknown error occurred (-50)."
The problematic files have artist/album/title info, but they have nothing listed for "Format" "Channels" "ID3 Tag" or "Encoded With" (the labels don't show at all in the "Summary" section of Get Info
Any suggestions? Right now, I'm thinking of re-encoding the problem files on my Mac, but that's a pretty kludgy workaround. Ideas would be appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Daniel

I had this same problem and found a solution. I used an external program for ID3 tagging (MediaMonkey) and the tags it wrote for a few files must have been corrupt. As a result iTunes would not play the file. I simply re-tagged the files with MediaMonkey again and the problem went away.

  • Some AAC files are truncated when iTunes plays them

When I had iTunes 6, I went through and converted all my MP3's to AAC using the Advanced > Convert Selection to AAC option. When I upgraded to iTunes 7, it stopped handling some AAC files correctly. When they play, they get almost to the end, then abruptly stop and the next song plays. Quicktime handles these files perfectly, and plays them through the end.
    A. Why is this happening? (Are they encoded badly? I feel like this can't be the case, since I've only used iTunes to encode my files, and Quicktime handles them fine)
    B. How can I fix it?

Actually, no I don't have crossfade playback on. The files cut out anywhere from 5 - 60 seconds before the file is supposed to finish, it really has nothing to do with crossfade...

Hi, Nokia fans. I recently updated my firmware to 034.001. MY E52 jumps songs when play some AAC files downloaded from iTunes store. It doesn`t occur until I updated to the newest firmware. Any idea how to fix this?

  • Some mp3 files do not play after upgrading to iTunes 8.0

some mp3 files do not play after upgrading to iTunes 8.0
have upgraded and some songs which used to play on iTunes 7 no longer play. album art is missing. when trying to play on of these songs, nothing appears in the playbar at the top of the window.
it seems the same problem exists in the mac os environment.

The solution I discovered to fix this problem was to create a smart playlist with all song of a kind containing MPEG. Then I went through album by album, and coverted ID3 tags using the value of NONE. This then enabled me to play the songs in iTunes 8.0 and in many cases restored the Album Art.
    Thanks!

    Hey Louni,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are having issues with Authorizing your computer to play content. The following articles may help to resolve this issue:

  • I rec'd a CD with audio files. The suffix is .v09, and they won't play on iTunes. Any idea what I should do?

I rec'd a CD with audio files. The suffix is .v09, and they won't play on iTunes. Any idea what I should do?
    I have a MacBook, OS X.

No helpful information seems to be available about this, except that on Windows .v09 indicates an unknown extension - in other words they could be anything. What do you get if you highlight the file and hit command-i - does the info pane give you any file type?
The best thing would be to ask the person who sent you the CD what they are; if you can't do this you can only try opening it in various programs. Audacity is a free audio editor which can open a number of formats. You could try dragging it to a browser icon in case it's Flash, or try the Windows Media Player. However there's a good chance that it's one of the obscure audio formats, in which case you very likely won't be able to play it.

  • After a itunes update my HDV mov files won't play on my mac.

I applied and update to my MacBook pro and BAM!! Now my HDV.mov files won't play with QuickTime or final cut pro. I'm in the middle of a project and I can't finish it because when the files play in fcp I get a error. Can anybody help me with this?

I have two anserws I think might work for you. The first one is: This solved the issue down loading and re-installing Quicktime 7.5.5
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/using_pacifist_to_downgrade_quicktime .html
I'd create a backup of the System / Components and Quicktime folders first though, just incase you need to revert back.
    and the 2nd one is:
I HAVE A FIX...AND IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!  Actually a friend found this fix somewhere else, but I just did it and it worked.  The only rub is you need to have access to another system that has not been updated to iTunes 10.5 or QT 7.7.
On the system that has not been updated, go to:
MAC HD/System/Library/Components and copy that folder to an external drive...next go to
MAC HD/System/Library/QuickTime and copy that folder to an external drive.
On the system that is not working, go to the same places on the MAC HD and delete those two folders.  Then copy the folders from your external drive to the same location.  Restart you system...i did it twice...and everything should be back to normal.  This has worked on both systems here that were previously jacked up.  If you do not have access to a system that was not messed up, let me know and maybe we can swap files.
I havent tried any of these yet because I'm in the middle of a project and I dont wnat anything to go wrong right now. After I'm done I will be sure to get started on one of these.
If you try any one of these let me know how it works out.

  • Song won't play on itunes but plays on quicktime

I just downloaded an entire album (not off itunes). However when i click on the song in finder, iTunes opens up but doesn't even display my song. Nothing happens. Not only does it not play, there is not evidence I even clicked on the song.
However when I open it on Quicktime is plays just fine.
I made an email account containing one of the songs that won't play. If someone can maybe dissect why the song won't play in iTunes I'd greatly appreciate it.
    <Edited by Host>
I've attached the song to the first email sent to myself. Maybe if you could look at how it's encoded or something to help figure this out.
    Thanks in advance!

MP3 files have structures which can vary according to the dialect of mp3 used. Some applications will only look at a file if it is perfect. Some are willing to try pretty much anything. (Like reading a post on Apple Discussion. If somebody omits grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure I might not even try reading it, but some are willing to try and can make sense of it in the end.) There's something not quite right with the file (um, if this is of dubious origins it might not be surprising). iTunes won't look at it, but Quicktime is willing to have a go and can make enough sense of it to play it.
I opened the file with MP3Trimmer (well worth the minimal shareware fee IMHO, and has a pretty liberal trial version). Normally it would open a file like that in a few seconds. It took it about a minute of scanning before it did. I then saved the file in mp3Trimmer (it doesn't recode it so there's no additional quality loss) and it fixed whatever it didn't like and I could add it to iTunes.

  • Downloaded Snow Leopard and now mp3 files won't play or open.. help!

Once I updated my system to Snow Leopard, my downloaded mp3 files won't transfer to iTunes or even play in general, they used to automatically download into my iTunes. Is there a specific setting I need to change?

What happens when you try to play in iTunes?  Do you get any error messages?  Can you play the mp3s in Quicktime or VLC?
If you want iTunes to play your mp3s, the setting for that is inside iTunes Preferences.
Have you tried repairing permissions and restarting your computer?
