Some InDesign CS5.5 files won't open until force quit and relaunch application (Mac). It seems that this occurs rarely, but once it does it on a file, it happes every time.
Any suggestions?
Is your Indesign updated to 7.5.2 ?
Where are these file saved on network or on your computer?
Are you using any font mangement software link suitcase fusion.?

At my work, we are working on formatting a book in InDesign. We are using the same base template for each file. I created a front matter document with a table of contents (TOC), list of figures (LOF), list of tables (LOT), acronyms, and glossary using that base template. Everything worked fine; I was able to generate the TOC, LOF, and LOT, and could work with the file with no problem. Then I saved and closed the file. Later that day, I was unable to open the file.
The message I get includes the statement, "You may not have permission or the file may be open already."
No one else had opened it and there are no lock files. The other person using InDesign also cannot open it. I made a copy of the file and saved it in another location and still could not open it.
The files are all on our network. We are using InDesign CS5 and Windows7 (64-bit). The only difference between this file and the others are the modifications that I made to some TOC paragraph styles so two paragraphs could be displayed side-by-side in the TOC (i.e., Chapter 1 Introduction all on one line, where Chapter 1 comes from one paragraph and Introduction comes from another by having no leading on one paragraph style).
Can anyone suggest a solution for this? This is rather urgent as the client needs the book by the end of next week.

Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start after a recent windows 8 update -- how to fix?
I just had a Windows 8 auto update happen and then my Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start. When I go to open it, it gets to the usual screen but then an error message shows up saying that Windows has encountered a problem and needs to shut the program down, and will notify me if a solution exists. What to do?
Do you see anything useful in the Event Viewer logs? Have you tired rebooting? Does it start if you log in with a different username?

Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
was asked to update itunes last week and since then itunes won't open, un-installed it and followed the necessary steps then tryed to install it from scratch but still no luck. It says it has been successfully installed, but no sign of it on my computer.

Initializing arises with the following information: to proceed, open your download folder and locate the Adobe reader installer file, named Adobe reader installer [ XXX].dmg
It takes me back to steps that have already taken of locating down load file double-click to mount the disk image; double-click install Adobe reader; agreed by clicking open; entering name and password and clicking okay.
Did this several times with no success.

I just upgraded to Yosemite on my mac from 2010. Everything seems to work, accept Photos. When I try to open it i push the "Get started" button, then the picture with "Preparing Library" comes up. Then a message appears with the text "An unexpected error has occurred. Please quit and restart the application." I have done this several times, but nothing happens. What do I do?

Whenever I try to view a PDF file, I'm getting the error message "Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser." I have the new Adobe Reader but am still getting this message.
Even after launching Reader and accepting the EULA? Most strange.

Nothing to do with the download; you need to open Adobe Reader once after the install is complete, and accept the EULA. -
Indesign CS4 files won't open in CS6
Installed CS6 on new MBP. Moved CS4 design files over to new computer.
Files won't open in CS6. Get the following message:
Cannot open "filename.indd". The file "filename.indd" is damaged (Error code: 4).
This happens with ALL of my CS4 Indesign files. (*Note: they DO open on old MBP)
I tried exporting one as IDML on old machine - same thing.
Any suggestions? I was told all older version files will open in NEW CS versions. True?The Voodoo is in the basics. - turn it off...turn it on?
I just quit InDesign CS6 and reopened...now all of my files are opening fine in CS6!
@Bob - just to double check - moved files from old mbp - onto external hd - then brought them over to new mbp...is there a better way? -
Safari 6.0.5 pdf still won't print with cache emptied and relaunched on my MAC 10.8.5
Emptied cache and relaunched Safari. The pdf I click on that shows a document goes blank when I click on print. I did learn that other documents in Safari will print after all, but not this one. Enabled cookies to no avail. Firefox works. Must be something to do with the site I am on perhaps.

Firefox does not open in safe mode and from the menu bar it will not quit ...... I have to go to the dock and right clic to force quit.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, to try terminal as instructed

InDesign CS5.5 won't open in OS X 10.10
I just installed Yosemite and hadn't had any troubles with anything until I tried to open InDesign CS5.5. It keeps telling me, "To open “Adobe InDesign CS5.5.app” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I've searched for Java SE 6 and cannot find a way to download it. I downloaded Java 8, but the program is still not opening and I still get the warning dialog. I have work I need to get done and cannot work on till this is fixed. Any help is appreciated.
