Some progress in converting from Excel 3

made some progress in converting Excel 3
Excel 3 to Excel 98 via maclinks
to numbers no work
in excel showed formulas
saved as csv
planned to unwrap "formula......" in numbers and make fix
translated to unix tr '\015' '\012' < dinotab_7_707 > dinotab_7707out
would not work until
I edited the ""this"" to "this" got rid of double double quotes
full file opened 953 lines
but commas in formulas no longer protected
so got '=if(index(c62' 'c65' not 'if(index(c62,c65....'
used exposed commas to split
I guess I can concat back together

progress ??
Did more editing made this
=IF(C147="brk","D" & ROW(),B146)
into this
=IF(C147=brk,D & ROW(),B146)
loaded as formula into one column
will have to go back and add " to text
and fill down xxx rows
tried to run the first edit c/""/"/ file
using smart quotes turned on
split it into pieces.

  • Converting from excel 2004 to ical with Snow Leopard

    tried to import data via iCalMaker but was informed by the software maker that they don t support Snow Leopard. So ... a bit lost.
    I have the custom of preparing data in Excel, and would want to import some data into iCal. However I cannot find a good converter from either tab (preferred) or csv to ics. Similarly have no experience with applescripts and other fancy things. Is there somewhere an easy system to convert?

    Ali,
    Appears the iCal and Excel "wizards" forgot to supply us with a simple and much need way to import excel events, dates, birthdays, games etc. from excel to iCal..
    ...even the "wizards" at Ms Office 2011 do not allow an easy import from MS Office 2011 Excel to MS Office 2011 Outlook/Calendar...

  • How to copy only some coulums and rows from excel files to a Oracle Table

    Dear all,
    I have the following problems:
    How to copy only some wanted coulums ( I.e DATETIME(format:17/09/2007 00:00:01 ) and TIME (format: 00:00:01 ) from excel files to oracle table.
    HOPE TO GET HELP FROM YOU GUYS!
    SINCERELY,
    MONOJSHARMALUITEL

    How about Heterogeneous Services so that the Excel sheet is an external database:
    1- Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>System DSN and create a data source with appropriate driver. Name it EXCL.
    2- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Tnsnames.ora fie add entry:
    EXCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.12.0.24)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = EXCL)
    (HS = OK)
    Here SID is the name of data source that you have just created.
    3- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Listener.ora file add:
    (SID_DESC =
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    (SID_NAME = <hs_sid>)
    (ORACLE_HOME = <oracle home>)
    under SID_LIST_LISTENER like:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = ORA9DB)
    (ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
    (SID_NAME = ORA9DB)
    (SID_DESC =
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    (SID_NAME = EXCL)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\ora9db)
    Dont forget to reload the listener
    c:\> lsnrctl reload
    4- In %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin create init<HS_SID>.ora. For our sid EXCL we create file initexcl.ora.
    In this file set following two parameters:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = excl
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
    5- Now connect to Oracle database and create database link with following command:
    SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK excl
    2 USING 'excl'
    3 /
    Database link created.
    Now you can perform query against this database like you would for any remote database.
    SQL> SELECT table_name FROM all_tables@excl;
    TABLE_NAME

    I also tried to convert it using create pdf. got the same thing.
    Any idea why?

  • Distorted Files when converting from Excel to PDF

    Hello,
    I work in IT and I have an annoying issue that when someone using Excel 2007 clicks on the acrobat tab to create a PDF from excel. The finished PDF file is distorted, and will not show the files as they should be. Part of the graph will be missing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Pro X, the only thing that happened was that when creating a new user, the new user is able to create a perfect excel to PDF file with no issue, but the original user with the issue still has the same problem. Is there a setting that will fix this?

    Hi,
    Please share your file if possible so that I can look into the problem. Please use below link:

  • DSUM equivalent required for 3 condition eq' (just converted from Excel)

    Hi, I have just imported a basic accounting spreadsheet from Excel and wish to see if iWork 08 Numbers is up to the task! My issue is that my DSUM calcs for creating the basis for VAT returns is not recognised in Numbers - Can anyone assist with an alternative?
    Column A Column B Column C
    {date range} {expense category range} {expense amount}
    In Excel I used to be able to extract the expenses for a given category between 2 dates using something like this in function DSUM (date range >= Col A, expense category exists in Col B, date <= Col A, resultant expense amount from Col C)
    I have tried constructing SUMPRODUCT equations instead to no avail.
    In summary I need to return the sum of the expenses in Col C that meet 3 conditions within date range conditions 1 & 2 and meeting expense category condition 3.
    Any advice greatly appreciated - I can revert back to Excel, but would prefer the much more economical deployment of numbers, it's basic but provided I can overcome this hurdle, adequate for my needs.
    Thanks for reading,
    Ross

    Ross,
    Excel seems to have a function to fit every concievalbe situation but this is certainly not true of Numbers. Your problem can be handled, but it's certainly not as slick as DSUM in Excel.
    First of all, an auxiliary column may be added to your table which identifies those rows which meet the three conditions you list (plus eliminates blank situations). Actually, since this is an auxiliary column which may be hidden, I should think that you could eliminate the first part of the the formula where blanks are weeded out if you're willing to live with red and blue triangles.
    "In Range":
    =IF(OR(ISBLANK(Date),ISBLANK(Table 2::A$2),ISBLANK(Table 2::B$2)),"",IF(AND(Date>=Table 2::A$2,Date<=Table 2::B$2,Category<>""),"yes",""))
    Then in the "Range Sum" column of the the second table,
    =SUMIF(Table 1 :: In Range,“yes”,Table 1 :: D)
    Note that this sum also includes a zero for Oct 8 where no amount was entered, If this is an error that must noted, Table 1 will have to be modified to flag the error.

  • Converting from Excel and saving embedded links

    I'm using Microsoft Office Excel 2003, sp3 and Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional (7.0.9). I have some Excel pages that have embedded hyperlinks in them linking to other internal web pages. When I print to "Adobe PDF" it shows the links underlined, but they're not actual links, rather underlined text. I used to be able to do this but I'm not sure if a patch was applied that made this not work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Clyde Porpid

    Ok.. Here's the last thing I recieved from Microsoft. Apparently it's an Adobe issue.
    MESSAGE:
    ********************** The message for you follows ************************ Good afternoon Clyde ,
    It has been my pleasure to work with you on your Microsoft Excel 2003 issue. Based on our last conversation I am closing your case at this time. If you find that your issue has not been fully resolved, please notify me as soon as possible, and I will reopen it.
    As I close this issue let me assure you that your opinions are very important. If you have any comments regarding the service you received from Microsoft Enterprise Platforms Support regarding this issue. Please let me or my manager, Ken XXXX ([email protected]), know if there is anything that we can address to ensure your satisfaction with the overall service I provided.
    Here is a summary of the key points of the case for your records.
    Action:
    Using the Adobe Professional installed Addin to convert Excel files to PDF format.
    Result:
    The resultant PDF file does not contain the expected Hyperlink as entered in the Excel file.
    Cause:
    The Adobe converter uses the Adobe Print Driver to convert files and within this uses OCR technology to produce the PDF. This does not allow the Adobe application to see the underlying HTTP URL and such only reads the Text Displayed.
    Resolution:
    Alteration of the information in the page to be a HTTP URL will correct the issue. Use of Office 2007 and the Save As PDF functionality produces the expected output as well. All versions of the Adobe Print Driver through 8 produce the same results.

  • Batch Convert From Excel Files To Numbers?

    Is there any way to batch convert all my excel files into numbers files without individually opening each document and saving it out?

    repeat (* wait until the file is really open *)
    if my getNbWindows() > nw then exit repeat
    end repeat
    (* click the button "drop advertisements" *)
    tell application "System Events" to tell process theApp to click button 2 of sheet 1 of window 1
    delay 0.2
    (* Opens the Save dialog *)
    tell application theApp to activate
    tell application "System Events" to tell process theApp to keystroke "s" using {command down}

  • Converting from Excel to Adobe PDF

    I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional and Windows XP. The excel worksheet is on a landscape page and reduced to say 65%. It has wording on the left side that stretches through five cells. Some of the wording gets cut off. Maybe the last letter gets cut off in half, but not all the words in different cells get cut off. Some of the wording that does not get off go beyond the cells that do get cut off. This happens on some worksheets. The next worksheet can have the same page setup and nothing happens. One of the solutions we have found is that we have to add 3 spaces to the last word of the cells that is being cut off. That seems to fix the problem. Another is that we print the page in excel (works perfect) and then e-fax the page to ourselves and inserted in the document. But doing this last things keeps us from printing a final version for the client, since there is a difference. Any solutions that could solve this?

    Change your printer to the Adobe PDF printer and then set the cell sizes in Excel. This is just the normal Excel adjustment to the printer.

  • How do I save data in a numbers spreadsheet? I am trying to convert from Excel and can't find the save button!

    I am new to Imac and numbers and am currently working on my first spreadsheet but must be thick as I cannot find the save icon!

    As you are no longer in M…oSoft world, you have to change your habits.
    In AppleLand, there is no Save icon/button.
    We have menu items or/and shortcuts.
    If you imported an Excel document in Numbers under Lion, you may use :
    File > Save…
    or
    File > Export…
    or
    Share > Export…
    These three commands allow you to export as an Excel file.
    If you want to save as a Numbers one, only
    File > Save… will apply.
    It would be useful to download and read
    Numbers User Guide
    and
    iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide.

  • A Recent convert from excel

    Loving some of the features in Numbers BUT where oh where is the text orientation?

    Hi AKML100,
    Please open Numbers one more time and go to Numbers (menu) > Provide Numbers Feedback to make a Feature request.
    Rotating text in headers would be a useful feature. Every request helps, and you may want to consider Numbers again in the future.

  • Cannot convert from excel to adobe (using acrobat 8 standard)

    Document will begin conversion and then just get stuck forever in an unending loop.  When I cancel the program (excel) get a prompt that says that Acrobat was unable to complet PDF process!!!  Help!!!

    Open the file in Excel. Then go to the FILE menu and select print. Chose the Adobe PDF printer and see if you get a PDF -- all of the other Acrobat processes depend on this printing process. If not, report what error messages you get. I suspect that you have deactivated AcroTray.exe that is a required part of the conversion part. If you like to test the latter, use the print-to-file option in the printer dialog, then open the file in Distiller to complete the process. The latter should either give you a PDF or a mess of error messages telling you why not.

  • Transferring User-Entry Cells from Excel Files

    Hello,
    I apologize in advance if this is a question better answered in a Microsoft Excel forum, but I saw some really good discussions here, and I think my question applies just as much to Acrobat.
    I work at a college and we create a lot of excel files -- one for each student. I'd like to be able to create excel files with fields that would accept user-entered data, then save this excel file as a PDF so that the user-entry fields are preserved. I can't seem to figure out a way to do this, but I'd like to avoid having to go into each PDF with Acrobat after the fact to add the appropriate fields to each form.
    If not that, is there a way to change acrobat settings such that the user will be allowed, using Reader, to enter text anywhere on the form (without altering the text that's already there)?
    Thanks so much for your time and thoughts!
    -Devin

    There is not a built-in way to convert from Excel to PDF so that the cells are automatically converted to form fields in Acrobat with the data retained.
    To allow Reader users to add text to a PDF, it needs to be enabled for commenting (Tools > Typewriter > Enable Typewriter too in Adobe Reader, for example), which allows Reader to add text using the Typewriter tool. Or "Comments > Enable for Commenting and Analysis in Adobe Reader", which allows other types of comments (e.g., Text Box) to be added with Reader.
    If the layout is static, you can import data exported from Excel and fill fields in a PDF form. The data file needs to be a text file in tab-delimited format, with the PDF field names provided in the first row, and subsequent rows being the corresponding field data. You can import in Acrobat using: Forms > Manage Form Data > Import Data. When you select the text file, it will promt you to import a row of data from the text file.

  • Reading long text from excel file to an internal table

    Hi
    Can any body tell me how to read long text from excel file to an internal table.
    When i am using this FM KCD_EXCEL_OLE_TO_INT_CONVERT then it is reading only 32 characters from each cell.
    But in my excel sheet in one of the cell has very long text which i need to upload into a internal table.
    may i know which FM or what logic i need to use for this problem.
    Regards

    Hi,
    Here is an example program.  It will upload an Excel file with two columns.  You could also assign the Excel structure dynamically, but I wanted to keep the example simple.  The main point is that the internal table (it_excel in this example) must match the Excel structure that you want to convert.
    Remember, this is just an example to help you figure out how to properly use the technique.  It will certainly need to be modified to fit your requirements, and as always there may be a better way to get the Excel converted... this is just one possibility that has worked for me in the past.

  • Migrating from Excel to Numbers '09

    I've recently converted from Excel, but there are a couple of features that I can't find in Numbers.
    1. It looks like Numbers doesn't have Pivot Tables. Categories looks like a partial substitute, but how do I create a formula in one table to reference category sub-totals in another table?
    2.I can't find an equivalent to Excel's Advanced Filter - the ability to filter not just rows but selected columns into a new location.
    3. When using SUMIF or SUMIFS, the online examples show the condition argument in quote marks, eg ">= 6/3/10". How do I use a cell reference as the condition? That way, with a relative address cell, I could copy the formula rather than having to type in the condition as text every time?
    Thanks

    Paul,
    Questions 1 and 2 are easily accommodated with standard functions that don't reuire the categories/filtering features. The category and filter features are short cuts for those who don't want to get involved with programming. Not that the features aren't handy, but the functions will get you there too.
