Some questions on itunes

Hi all,
I have an iphone and ipod classic. Recently, I had to re-format my HDD due to motherboard failure, and I forgot to retrieve the itunes library backup and iphone backup before I re-format.
Now I have already installed itunes and loaded back my music and I have some questions.
1) What will happen if I connect my iphone to my PC? At the moment, itunes has no apps in it. Do I have to re-download them from the store?
2) What will happen to my contacts? Will they stay in the iphone?
That's all I can think of right now. Will post more questions next time.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

1) All of the itunes content will be erased from the iphone and replaced with content from the computer. You will have to re-download Apps if you didn't have them backed up.

2) If you have at least one unique contact and calendar entry on your computer, then you should get the option to merge the data with your iphone when you first sync.

Some questions on Itunes match

I just purchased Itunes match and have a few questions. I have rarely used Itunes before and so just started with a (literally) empty library. I decided to pull a folder into itunes, edit the tags and then try the upload. Here a few questions issues:
1) does the File size or lenghth matter. For example Itunes sayed that there are 60 Files to upload. After the first 2 files were uploaded it sayed 30 files have been uploaded! The files are each mp3's which are about 30min long and i was wondering if Itunes counts those longer files as more than one against my upload limit? This is very important because i have a lot of very long files and it would then not work with my upload limit.
2) I am wondering if i change something on a file (whether matched or uploaded) it also changes on the cloud (e.g. Tags).
3) Is there a way i can temporary stop Itunes match, import more files into itunes edit the tags and then upload them? When Itunes match is on it automatically uploads them before i can edit them. And if i turn off itunes match and back on it starts the complete process (identifying files etc.) over again? As i start with an empty Itunes and all files having no tags ( alot of them are long recordings from classes, University etc.) i want to import them year by year, edit them upload them check them before moving on.

I don't think so. However, if you haven't enabled in your View Options, Icloud status, you might want to do it. If there are additional files that were uploaded, you can do a sort and see them all.

If you're asking whether the already uploaded file will have its ID3 tags automatically changed during a later matching session, so they are the same as ones you altered on your local copy, I'm unsure, but I'd say no. To be absolutely certain, you might need to go through a process that purges the uploaded copy, then re-upload. This is time-consuming, but the process has been discussed in the forums.

Yes it does start over. However it's a cumulative process. If it sees files in your library that it has already uploaded, it doesn't upload another copy. As mentioned above, in order to get a fresh copy uploaded (with new ID3 tags), you need to remove it from the cloud, which also requires you to remove it from you iTunes library, then reimport it.
For what it's worth, there is also a contextual menu item that allows you to "Add To iTunes Match" those items you've highlighted in iTunes. However it seems to do the same thing as selecting "Update iTunes Match" in the Store menu, meaning when I've done it, I haven't seen any change in the steps taken, nor the time it takes to go through the process.
I gather what you are hoping to do is to get all of your University recordings organized in a manner that works for you. No matter how you get them organized in iTunes, they may not automatically appear that way in the cloud. However if your file naming gives you the basic organization, I imagine setting up smart playlists will do the trick. You'll have access to those playlists on any device that has your iTunes Match account turned on.

Some questions regarding ESB system.

I've used my ESB system for a few months now, so I thought it would be interesting to look at what's going on in my database schema created by my esb system (oraesb). This led to some questions (and raising eyebrows), I hope some of you soa-experts might have an answer.
* Is my system installed properly:
I noticed that the oraesb schema created by running IRCA.zip installs only tables, views, topic queues and 1 procedure (create_queue). However, looking at the sql scripts in ${soaSuite_home}/integration/esb/sql/oracle there are far more stored procedures defined. Is it normal cq. okay that these objects are not installed or is my esb system faulty?
* No constraints or indices:
My system is yet very small, so it is still performing good/fast. I imagine that when the esb system is going further, performance and locking becomes an issue due to lack of indices on foreign key columns and primary/foreign constraints.
* Only small part of schema used:
When browsing through the tables of the oraesb user I notice that only a few tables are filled with data. For example all "Slide Tables" (this is the name given to these group tables in file ${soaSuite_home}/integration/esb/sql/oracle/wfeventc.sql) are empty. Is this normal? What kind of processes should enter data in these tables? What is the use of the "Slide tables"?
* AQ-tables not being used:
My esb system has five aq-queue tables (esb topics), but they are never used! I recall another thread on this forum about these queue tables growing enormous in size. I guess there must be a sort of switch somewhere to switch between jms-queue's and aq-queue's? Can anyone please explain how switch on the aq-queue's or point me to the proper documentation. I must have overlooked this in the documentation.

When your podcast is accepted you should receive an email telling you this and giving the URL for its page in the iTunes Store. The string of numbers at the end is the ID number.
It usually takes somewhat longer for a new podcast to appear in the search results. Once you can find it by searching on the title, you can get the Store page URL, if you still don't know it, by control-clicking on the podcast image (or where it should be) and choosing 'Copy Podcast URL'.

And since the old e-mail address is no longer active, I can't even chenge the password- becasue it's sends the link to do so via e-mail! Even when I use the "ask personal questions" option to verify and it asks me for my date of birth, I put it in and it still won't acccept.

it's less powerful than your average computer. THink of it like a netbook but with a better processor.
It'll do fine for surfing (although if you browse a lot of flash based sites you will need to get a third party browser since safari doesn't accommodate it)
You may do OK on reading books, papers or magazines, especially if they have apps, but the ipad's screen is backlit, so it doesn't work well outdoors and you may need to fiddle with the brightness so that you don't get eye strain (it's just like doing too much reading from a computer screen)
I would say the biggest short comings are data transfer. Apple's preferred work flow is that everything is done via iTunes or the internet....well people dont' always have 100% reliable always on internet access so you can find yourself in a situation where you can't get things on/off the iPad.
By and large, it's a good device for day to day stuff, but is not a computer replacement.

How come some of my itunes songs have a "check mark" and ones that do not say the file cannot be found.

How come some of my ITunes songs have a check mark next to them and the songs that do not have it, I receive a error message " the file could not be found" The songs are on my Ipod and Ipad2. Is my itunes library screwed up? Can someone tell me how to clean up my library?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

Might buy an Apple TV - some questions.

I'm seriously considering the purchase of an Apple TV. The primary reason is that I want to digitize all of my DVDs and free up all the space they take up on my shelves. I also would like to be able to rent movies from iTunes directly from the television.
I have some questions since the Apple Store reps have been less than helpful:
1. I want the largest drive size I can get, which seems to be the 100GB. However, I have more than that in movies to rip. Can I attach a 1TB hard drive to the USB port on the back of the Apple TV for additional space, or will I need to store my ripped movies on the 1TB from a computer, and resync whatever 100GB worth I want at any given time on my Apple TV?
2. Can the Apple TV stream a video from a wirelessly connected computer, or only from it's own internal hard drive?
3. What video file formats can Apple TV work with? Is it QuickTime only, or can it also work with AVI, WMV, etc.?
4. Assuming the answer to #2 above is that it can only from it's own hard drive, and that Apple TV "syncs" the way an iPhone or iPod does in that it copies a media file to the device, I'm wondering about multiple libraries at this point. I have an older, pre-Intel iMac at home, and my primary computer is a MacBook Pro. It goes with me EVERYWHERE. Since it's a laptop, drive space is much more limited, and I'm not willing to carry a portable 1TB drive with me everywhere I go. Can iTunes and Apple TV sync music and photos stored in the laptop's iTunes library, but pull videos from the iMac's iTunes library? Or, am I out of luck on this one?
5. Any rumors as to when a larger-capacity Apple TV will come out? I will be woefully p*ssed off if I buy one only to have a 1/2 or 1TB Apple TV come out a few months later.

Unfortunately, you can't change or etrieve them by yourself as you forgot the original ones. You may contact iTunes store support though. Here's what you can do:

Follow these steps:
All Products and Services > iTunes > iTunes Store > Account Management > iTunes Store account security
Answer the questions and if required sign in with your Apple ID and password - same one you used to log in on this support forum.
You will find an option to send an email to Apple on that page. Indicate that you forgot the answers to your security questions and wait for iTunes support to reply.

For some unknown reason, Itunes won't let me edit Audio info

So I recently synced 1891 songs to my iPhone 5. Whilst the process was completed successfully I noticed where in my itunes library all of the artists were organised accordingly. But suddenly, due to some kind of idiotic magic a lot of my music had missing information/wrong information. Oh well, this happens I thought placidly believing that all I had to do was fix the info myself. But lo and behold for some unknown reason Itunes won't let me edit any of the info of the music on my Iphone 5. Why? I don't know. But I know for a fact that none of the music is "Read-Only" because I check and I did the same process with the same files on a different computer. My new computer (currently using) is authorized and everything seems to be in order, I have no idea why this isn't working but some help would be appreciated. Please. I'm sick of having to read forum after forum after doing the simplest things on Itunes, please someone from Apple answer my question with efficiency, or create a less convulted program

Sounds like the ID3 tags are messed up on those songs.
iTunes imports using v2.2 tags. Convert the tags to v2.3 and try adding the artwork.
Right-click > convert ID3 tags
Also, make sure they are not read-only files.
