SOME SIMPLE QUESTIONS FOR ALL OF YOU
hi,
I have some questions for all of you.
1. Oracle uses cgi (even asp!!! I've seen an asp page somewhere on an Oracle's site but this moment I don't remember where perhaps it is asp->cgi). Why ?
Oracle doesn't support their techologies
(Pl/SQL, Jsevlets,XML) ?
2. Oracle says that has just released a
new product for mobiles called "Portal2Go".
I tried to install this product on NT with OAS 4.8.1.
I had many problems during the installation and after many tries finally I did it(thanks God). but the problems continue...
many Jsp errors (from the "tested" supplied apps). My question is:
a. This product is in an early stage (many installation errors.. just a baby) and I think is stable for Sun Solaris but not on NT.
b. You Oracle "experts" (i.e. oracle staff, NOT YOU guys) tell me ONE advantage to use you product (I'm an oracle developer for 6 years now):
You say that I can PORT my existing app in any device and Web (through XML). This is a joke. Mobiles,PalmPCs,Web etc. have different requirements (content,display etc).The scope is different.. so this is absolutely FALSE (to use a boolean).
This release is user unfrienlty. Why.. tell me WHY to pay for a product and for extra hardware (read the product technical reqs!!) to do the SAME THINK
I do NOW with existing sources.
I've developed an app for my company's employees using existing version of DB (8.0.5),pure pl/sql and a WAP GATEWAY.NOTHING LESS NOTHING MORE.
please answer. Any comment welcomed...
maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm not.
PS.WHERE THE WAP GATEWAY/SERVER IS. I searced the cd and..nothing :-) ?

Portal-to-Go is a wireless portal server, the first version was released November 1999.
The problems you describe that mobiles, Palm devices, etc all have different characteristics is one of the key reasons for Portal-to-Go. It allows any service to be displayed on any device by generating content in an appropriate format for specific devices. This way you can take into consideration the size of the screen, the display characteristics, etc.
It is 'stable' on Solaris and NT, though it is true that the installation procedure of the CD is for Solaris only. The product is not currently available on OTN, so the installer restrictions should have been explained to you when you obtained the CD.
Why Portal-to-Go? Here's three reasons:
1. Inherent problems of the User Interface for a wireless device, so we provide a way personalise the UI to improve navigation and allow commonly used parameters to be saved as stored preferences through the portal.
2. Differences in the characteristics between wireless devices make it hard to support all type without re-creating content and applications for each specific case. With Portal-to-Go, the same service can be accessed from any device.
3. Lack of content available for WAP and other wireless devices. We have tools to quickly create wireless services from existing Web sites as well as an application platform for creating new Java or database applications for wireless devices.
You are correct that the product does not have a WAP gateway.

Pro Tools convert to Logic Newbie some simple question for logic users
Hey guys, I am a recent convert from Pro Tools! and There were just some simple questions I thought some of you may be able to help me out with. I am using Logic 9.1.1
1) After I set up a multi timbral software instrument (in this case MOTU Symphonic Library) how do I set up midi channels to trigger the individual sounds in the instrument. (in pro tools I used to create a midi track then send an output of that track to that particular soft synth)
2) How do I set up a and forgive my Pro Tools vocab but basically I want to set up a reverb channel on an aux track have it receive on a bus so I can send other tracks to that particular bus.
Thanks for the insight and really looking forward to finally make use of all this ram! lol1) I have a nord stage and would like record via midi. In pro tools i would usually need to create a midi track with the output set the the nord and an audo aux track to hear it What would I do in order to record midi from my nord stage?
To record, just select a non-audio track, hit record and play the keyboard. The notes will get recorded into a region.
If you want to play it back to the Nord Stage as well, then it makes sense to set the Nord up as a MIDI device in your templates, so you can just add the Nord to a track and not worry about what MIDI ports it's on etc. Open the environment, create a New -> Instrument, called it "Nord Stage", set the MIDI port and MIDI channels it's on, and sav your template.
Now, when you start a song, to sequence the Nord, you just assign the Nord instrument to a track (by for instance, right clicking on a track and choosing your Nord instrument from the list of environment obects that appears).
2) The multi instrument trick is quick and easy its great but How would I do that manually?
Lots of ways, look into your key commands, ther are all kinds of "Create track with same instrument", "Create track with next MIDI channel" and so on. There are too many ways to do this to quickly talk about here. In short, all tracks have an environment object assigned to them, whether it's an audio object, or a MIDI instrument object, and this determines where the data on the track goes.
3) How do you set up midi so that it doen'ts overwrite notes when recording over them?

dos anyone know about i phones i have a i phone 3gs which i got unlocked i did a master reset or summin and just had a pic of apple so i plugged it in i tunes downloaded and it now says no service at the top of phone and i tunes says invalid sim i put the correct sim in it used to be locked too and still says same pls any one with ideas?hi sorry what happoned is that ages ago i brought a i phone 3gs on 02 network i went to a sml phone shop and payed for them to unlock it. it has been fine till yesterday when i went to reset it from the phone it then turned off and came back on just just an image of a apple for about an hour so i connected to i tunes and it said downloading software after another hr it had finished but then i tunes said in had to insert a sim so i had to un plug the phone from laptop while i did this i put my orange sim in and the i phone said where do i live and had to connect to a internet connection but all the time saying no service where the signal bar is and then says activating i phone it took a few min and said couldnt finish it bec of the signal and to connect it to i tunes to do it so i connected it to itunes and i tunes just keeps saying invalid sim so i took my orange sim out and put a 02 sim in and is still saying invalid sim on itunes?

Then:
Install the ENGLISH version.
Change the language in the CC app to Korean.
Install the Korean version. (DON't uninstall the English version)
Change back the langauge in the CC app to English.
When your OS is running in English, InDesign will run in English with Korean functionality added, if your OS is running in Korean it will take the Korean User Interface, so let your OS run in English.
Every installer language will add needed plugins for the work with that language. E.g. If I install Hebrew, I get RTL functionality in German version, only if I would change the OS language it would change the language of InDesign, InDesign takes always as UI language the language of the OS if available, if not (in your case you have uninstalled English before), it takes any version which is available in the order of languages specified in the OS.
If you need to run your program in a different language than the OS but you have installed it in the language of the OS it becomes more difficult. You would have to use some system tools which are able to force a program to open with a different language. Most of those tools are freeware. -

Okay. Question for all those IT wirzards (& iTunes) experts out there. Anyone know why a playlist (Purchased) keeps dropping off my playlists in iTunes??l This has happened at least 15-20 times to me in the past couipe of years. Fofrtunately for me, I saved these songs to an external hard drive, so retrieval won't be so painful. Guess I just want to know how to avoid this going forward.
Just that one playlist goes missing and no other content? No idea. But it is clear you ought to have a backup so you can restore the database should it happen again.

what I normally do when I'm making a score, is that I quantize the part I recorded to, say, 1/16th. If I play the quantized part, it should sound exactly what I intended. If not, I make corrections. This way, I'm pretty sure that the interpretation of the score window will be pretty accurate. Otherwise, the score could interprete a note that's a bit too early or a bit too late as a 1/32 note, and make a mess of the notes.
When playing full piano scores, make sure to play as simple as possible, because embellishments also make messier scores.

Not any more, no. There was a free bumper program back when the iPhone 4 originally came out. It has long since expired.

There appear to be two issues with your code:
1. you're calling n before you have defined it
2. you need to generate a random whole number and the random
number generator will have decimals
The solution is
1. call for n after you define it
2. use a rounding action to make the random number a whole
number
So:

As you may already know, the trace action helps solve these
types of issues by letting you know the value of n if it is
defined... when you test movie, the results of the trace statement
show n has a value in the output window. In your original code, it
would show undefined.
Hope this helps. One other thing you may face is figuring out
a way not to ask the same question twice. You probably will want to
use an array of eligible questions before long. -
For all of you looking to add additional language ...
First, to answer all of you out there like my self, who are looking for solutions to add extra languages to your phone such as chinese, spanish, french... etc...
1st simple answer is NO!! there are NO language pack you can download.
2nd, NO nokia will not install it for you even if u goto their customer service, and are willing to pay.
This is my story;
I brought a new E65 in less than a week ago, in australia. Like most of other nokia phones sold in australia it did not come with chinese. ALTHOUGH chinese australians are the 3rd largest ethnic group from English and Italian in Australia, on my phone i only have the option to choose from English, Malaysian, Philipino and Indonesian. As my previous phone is a nokia 6270 brought from hong kong (yes i was a loyal customer of nokia), half of my contacts and nearly all my SMSes are in Chinese. I seeked help from nokia. I first typed them e-mail which i received no reply. Then since i wasn't too far away from a nokia care center i also dropped by, and i was told "we can't do it, we simply don't have the software to do it, you could try calling the customer care center." So i did, and spent about 1hour on the phone talking firstly to a gentlemen and then the manager. I told her my problem and begged for help. As i am capable of reading and writing english i did not even ask for the phone to be fully transformed into a chinese version phone, but just to an extend that i will be able to read what i had (especially the name of my contacts). I must say, they were polite and did not have any attitudes, HOWEVER!!!! The only reply i got was, if the customer center could not do anything about it they can not either, they can not install a firmware from another region with chinese because there are licence issues. long word short... they were nice but helpless. We even brought up the possiblity of 3rd party softwares, however i've searched for 2 days and did not find any, which ended in the same way when she offered to search for a possible 3rd party software.
For those of you who do not know, YES it is possible to change the firmware your self and get the language u want!! HOWEVER!!! at the cost of loosing your warranty.
BUT unfortunatly for me nokia is tooo busy with its flag phone N95 and can not even be bothered to release a firmware for E65. So even when i am so despirate that i am ready to give up my 2 year warranty, I can not make my E65 capable of reading chinese.
So, i now have a USELESS E65 next to me. YES it is USELESS!!!!!!
For those of you who are looking for new phones and do have specific languages that you need, make sure u ask about the language FIRST!!! and if nokia does not have it, SONY ERICSON is probably a better choice as they install languages for you!!!
FINALLY if some of you nokia employees sees this, dont' delete this, because i am only telling a story of truth. AND if you really care, pls HELP US, and make language packs available, we are WILLING to PAY!!!! but HELP US!!!!! you have good phone design, nice customer service althought may not be helpful for this case, why let your self down on such a simple area.
Seed01001i know sony (but i never really liked them other than their ear phones) does that... but with nokia i was told, all the nokia phones are market dependent. thus each region has set languages nokia has decided to release depended on the market for each specific phone. since they told me that its due to many reasons such as software licence issues.... if they could order in a phone with additional languages why can't they install one? because its essentially the same thing, because it means that nokia is distrubuting a phone with additional language then its original intension, i dont' mind if it takes 2 months for them to send my phone to china/hong kong and install chinese for me. maybe nokia has extra languages licenced in the UK..... all i was told from the sales i had was you could try 3rd party software...... which was not viable when i searched....Message Edited by seed01001 on 20-Jul-200703:41 AM

Some dvi questions for those who really know there stuff!
Hi all, haven't lurked these forums in a few weeks but just had a quick question for those who wanna build up some "points". I'm trying to connect my MBP 15" (1.83ghz) to my Dell LCD 26" T.V. via DVI. Anyhoo, the DVI port on an MBP is a DVI-I (Dual link 24 + 5 pin) fenmale port while my Dell LCD sports a DVI-D (Dual link 24 + 1 pin) female port. Anyhoo, I went to my local Circuit City store and picked up a 6.6ft DVI-D (Single link 18 + 1 pin) male cable to hook both devices up. Should this work? If those have no idea what I'm talking about, I've included a link with a picture of allt he different DVI ports:

If I haven't explained myself well, please post and I'll do my best to clarify.Am I missing something? Do you actually have a problem making this work? If the plugs you chose are mechanically compatible (and both are DVI D, dual-link), then there should not be a problem.
Ah. I see the concern. The extra four pins. I believe they make the connector able to supply hybrid DVI-A and DVI-D. The Mac output is hybrid so it can easily be adapted drive a VGA monitor, too.
I think you should be fine.
I have a ViewSonic 1600x1200 LCD monitor with a DVI (single) and it works superbly with the Mac.

Can I have some simple answers for a newbi Mac user!!
I've just added some photo's in Iphoto 08 of my holiday which was about 3GB from my pictures folder, Now by importing them into Iphoto is kind of taken up 3gb of my memory from my hard drive.
So 6gb in total for my pictures which seems to be a waste of memory..
I thought Iphoto may just take the info of each photo as a resource not actually copy the photos, Anyway what;s the best solution on storing image's and using as little memory as possible if there is a way at all.
Or is doing what i'm doing the best way? I mean what would be the down side of once importing to Iphoto deleating my photos from my pictures folder?

MBPGThere are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:

If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
No, iMovie works differently. Best to ask on that forum.

For all of you having services failing to start
After 48 hours of struggle with this same issue and 6 clean re-installs of Lion Server I have found the bug in Lion Server causing all ruby based collaboration services (Device Manager, Wiki, ical, some adress book features ie: major screw up in services around server admin tools and server app). The most visible one is in Profile Manager because as you all pointed out it even says sometimes "Error Reading Settings". And if you take a look at the logs its even worst...full of errors...
that's how I found out, yes reading all the logs took time:
Basically they all fail because they use Postgresql database.
At first I did 2 clean re-installs and noticed everytime, after having spent some time configuring the server (open directory/kerneros, creating accounts/mailboxes, profiles etc.). I would do a reboot and everything would break.
Now I won't go over all the diggin I did but I finally manage to understand why Postgres at some point was failing.
it seems there is a bug.
If you turn "Dedicate Resources to Server Services" in the Server.app Hardware Section (next to Push Notifications switch", postgres doesn't start and all depending services (lots) fail.
The Solution: Just turn that OFF as shown below and restart. Everything should get back in order. If you still see some "push_notify: not connected" erros in you console logs (it happened to me even thoug all servcies were restored) the solution is easy. Hit change and redo the setup with you appleid. You'll be issued new certs by Apple and everything shoudl work fine.
That's all.
Hope this helps the many people that are frustrated like I was. Now that everything works, it's the perfect server for a mini Cloud. You'll love Profile Manager for provisioning payload to your devices. Elegant, efficient and simple, yet very flexible with the openDirectory backend.

The last few lines go in a loop and they also tend to bring the CPU high unti it's fixed.
As soon as I turn off "Dedicate Resources to System Services" and I reboot this problem disappears...

For all of you saying you are going to upgrade to a different phone
You need to realize that you are doing exactly what Verizon wants you to do. They want you to buy new phones and sign new contracts as often as possible. I see people in many of theise threads saying they are waiting for their upgrade or asking for an early upgrade from Verizon to buy an iPhone or an HTC or a phone from any non-Samsung manufacturer. That's what Verizon is hoping you will do. That is why they are not providing you with the service they owe you. They make money every time you do this.
While Samsung is certainly at fault here, the even bigger fault has been done by Verizon, whom we all pay large amounts of money monthly for service. Even if you paid full retail price for your Fascinate (which most have not) that is just a fraction of the money you are paying to Verizon. Stop rewarding Verizon by continuing to pay them for service they have not provided. Stop buying new phones and signing new contracts and continuing to let them get rich off of you when they despise you.
There are other carriers out there (and all of them are cheaper than Verizon by the way). Verizon has treated it's customers like dirt (and that's the nicest thing I can say). I personally have been treated by Verizon like I am not even a human being and have been repeatedly insulted, lied to, and abused by multiple Verizon employees, not to mention robbed of the services I have paid for. I have been incredibly patient and accomodating and given them every opportunity to do the right thing and at every turn they choose to be the worst they possibly can. This is a company with no conscience - both corporately and as individuals. I have never been treated so badly in my entire life and I have not done a thing wrong here. As a result, I am switching to a different carrier in 3 weeks so that Verizon will never get anymore of my hard-earned money. All of you experiencing these same problems should do the same.
Just this week, I have talked 5 people out of getting Verizon service. I consider this a public service and plan to do this every chance I get for the rest of my life. I am not the only person doing this either. Each of the FedEx employees who have delivered my refurbished phones have all told me they would never get Verizon service and advise everyone they know against this. This is because they see Verizon send out broken phone after broken phone after broken phone to the same customers who are without functioning phone service for several months. Also they say that the Verizon customers are always unhappy when they get the delivery but when they deliver for other phone companies, people are usually happy to be getting their phone.
Verizon needs to start paying attention. Their own delivery service talks bad about them. Their customers talk bad about them. Their once good reputation had done a 180 in a short period of time. If they don't wake up, they will go the way of other companies that people don't even remember anymore. But they are not going to change a thing as long as you all keep paying them all this money. You're making it profitable for them to screw you over. Only if customers leave them or don't sign up with them in the first place, will they have any incentive to change for the better. Buying a new phone, signing a new contract, or continuing service with them without a contract is just asking for them to treat you and others badly and steal your money.I was at a holiday picnic yesterday, and every person there with Verizon phones were having problems and complaining about Verizon. This started when one person was trying to reach his daughter and his phone kept rebooting when placing a call. He asked to borrow someone else's phone and several people in a row told him their phone was useless and to try someone else's. It turned out each one was a Verizon customer and we all started talking. Each one had their own horror stories about Verizon customer service. Several had been with Verizon for over a decade. We are all leaving Verizon. It's not that we think some other carrier is going to be perfect or that phones won't have problems - it's that Verizon has treated each of us in a despicable, inexcusable way and we just can't continue paying them for it.
Then this morning I was at a coffeeshop and there was a large family sitting at the tables next to me. One of the adult brothers was telling one of the others how his pregnant wife had been having pain yesterday and tried to call him while she waited for the ambulance. She kept getting his voicemail (he had a Fascinate and was missing calls but did not know it until this happened). It was early in the pregnancy and he did not have a pager. He finally got the voicemail after he had to reboot his phone for some other problem. After his wife was found to have a treatable, non-pregnancy-related issue and taken care of, he called Verizon to tell them what happened and to ask for a working phone. The customer service rep said there was no problem with his phone, refused his request, and was heartless and cruel to this man who was worried about his ill pregant wife. Both the brothers and another family member decided right then to go next door to Radioshack and switch to different carriers. Two went with Sprint and the other got a Virgin Mobile phone. The one with the wife is still under contract but said the safety of his family is more important than the fee to cancel his Verizon contract and that he plans to fight that fee based on what he experienced. The rest of the family is going to do the same when their contracts are up and most are going to try to get out of their contract early.
I keep running into people every day now that are being treated just horribly by Verizon. I used to recommend Verizon to everyone. They used to pride themselves on good customer service. The change in behavior is giving me whiplash. They seem to pride themselves on treating customers as badly as humanly (or inhuman-ly) possible. There is a company-wide policy to lie. They have been instructed to not provide service to customers and not to keep their end of the contract. They have been instructed to milk every cent they can out of every customer no matter the circumstances. They have been given reign to openly abuse customers, not only without consequence, but evidently are encouraged to do so and are backed up by supervisors who pile on their own abuse. I'm in disbelief. For myself, I am just about 2 1/2 weeks away from freedom, but I still feel deeply for others who feel trapped in this situation and are being mistreated. -
A Few Serious Questions for ALL Programmers
I am fairly new to programming ,and ,so far, have only finished 2 programming classes at the college I attend.
One class was a mix of Program Logic and C++.
The other was Visual Basic.
Right now I am in Java 1.
I absolutely LOVED C++ and Visual Basic, especially the latter.
I know a lot of people bash VB but I really liked it and I don't know why so many people "Pick on" it.
Anyway, I finished TOP in my class for VB and am well on my way to finishing top in the Java class.Not because I am a genius, but because I really put alot into it and even the smallest things sometimes takes me hours.
I sit at my computer and when I get an idea, I usually do not stop until I have it figured out.
I find the answers most of the time but IT COMES REALLY HARD TO ME!
The problem I am having is this: When I come here and see some of the sample codes and sample codes that I see elsewhere, like for a " 3D Molecule viewer" I get VERY frustrated because I feel like, to get anywhwere, I will have to be a genius like the people who write such code.
My fear is that I will only get to be mediocre at best and there will be no place for me in the Programming world...
I guess what I am really asking is this:If you are a great programmer, like somone who can whip out code for ANYTHING, did you always "Get It" or did it seem like you never would and eventually had an epiphany and "Got It".?...
Also, how much of programming is about using existing classes and how much is totally writing your own Classes and Methods.

Even then, when it still won't run properly, you get back at it tommorrow and try some more. Many people do not have this patience, and get distracted by the TV, or by their friends, or by their friends and TV ...and they walk away after an hour.
I too received the highest marks in nearly every class I took at school. Classmates used to say "Ya, but this stuff comes easy to you." No it didn't, I just spend more time with the labs than they did ...thats why I always received the better grades. I appeared to know more, but really I had just made more mistakes than most of my classmates. When it came to the exams, I was like "Oh, I made that mistake last week". My peers, however, had not made these mistakes yet and got tricked into choosing wrong answers on their exams.
I think programming experience creeps into our brain subconciously while we do it. One day, certain things that once boggled your mind will seem second nature. This comes from just doing it. I think you sound like you are on the right track. And don't worry, even though I know about a few things in Java ...I am constantly in awe of most of the good people I see throughout this forum. Everyone has something to teach, and everyone can always learn something new. What is important is that you don't get discouraged and give up. Now enough of the pep talk, where's my coffee and my compiler. Ah, there they are.
