Someone please help! My macbook is not starting up. Any suggestions?!?!

I have had my macbook for approx. 1 1/2 yrs. I am a new apple user, and I do not know what the problem can be. (I apologize for my vocabulary..I am not too Apple literate)
My computer froze up 2 days ago and I had to do a force shut down. After that I tried turning it on but it only show the greyish screen. I would again restart it/force a shut down. And at times a file folder with a question mark on it appears. Sometimes it beeps at me...its 1 beep and then a pause. (I believe I read that it does not recognize the RAM/memory?) I then figured I would try reinstalling the 2 disks that it came with. I install Disc 1, and I go through about 2 steps and once it gets to 'Select a Destination' there is no destination to select. I have tried going to Disk Utility and when I click on "Verify Disk Permissions" it comes up "Error: No valid Packages". I do see "erase and restore" options but I do not want to screw it up more than it already is.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It's definitely your drive. If you are comfortable doing a simple repair on your computer then you shouldn't have to go to the apple store. All you need to do is purchase a drive from a online seller. I recommend OWC. They have great prices. I just bought a 320 gb drive from them for $85. 120 GB would probably be about $20 cheaper. As for installing the drive thats pretty easy. Remove the battery using a coin to turn the slot on the bottom. Then remove the three philips screws on the metal bracket and remove the bracket. (you will need a phillips size 1 screwdriver). Once you to that, use the screwdriver to flip up a white tab you will see on the left side of the battery bay. Pull that (you may need to use a little force) and you will see a hard drive pop out. Next, remove the 4 black Torx screws (for this you will need a Torx T8 screwdriver). Remove the metal drive holder off the actual drive. Take note of the direction the drive is facing. Align the new drive the same way on the holder and screw the Torx screws back in. Next slip the drive and the holder back into the slot (with the white tab tucked underneath the drive). Screw the L shaped metal bracket back on, put your battery in and the upgrade is finished.
If you don't have a backup now is the time to install your OS. If you do have a backup you would now restore it to the new hard drive. Throw out the old drive. You won't be able to use it.

Locate your original install disk (it's grey) and use it to restart your iMac by holding the "C" key during startup. Use the disk utility to repair your harddrive.

If you want to preserve the data on the startup drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive or other storage device to hold the data.
1. Start up from the Recovery partition, from Internet Recovery, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
2. If Method 1 fails because of disk errors, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
3. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
4. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

Please help! Safari does not start due to a plugin failure. How can I remove librooksbas.dylib. Without being able to open safari. Finder does not find the file.

For future reference, Safari Plugins are kept in Macintosh HD> Library> Internet Plugins.
To unhide the Library folder, open up Terminal (just type"Terminal" into spotlight) and type:
chflags nohidden ~/Library

PLEASE HELP! itunes will not start!

I just downloaded itunes 7.0 when it finished, it told me that itunes installation was not complete because Quicktime was a 7.0, and it had to be the 7.3 version.
I then went ahead and downloaded itunes 7.0 again....and everything was fine.
but now i can't open itunes! i keep clicking and clicking...please help! it's urgent!

I had same problem. Installed Itunes 7, installation appeared ok and then I kept clicking on the icon and nothing would happen except I'd get more frustrated.
I uninstalled Itunes 7 thru add/remove programs. I tried uninstalling quicktunes, wouldn't let me. I then went to explorer, deleted the itunes and quick times folders. My music is located in my documents/my music so it didn't effect my music. Then I turned off my norton antivirus and re-installed itunes 6.0.5 which you can still find and download from itunes website.
Itunes 6.0.5 worked fine. I found those directions thru google and they work great.
I don't know how Apple will sell all those movies and games if they can't get itunes 7 working. I've told everyone I know to avoid it. They took a good system and screwed it up.

My MacBook Pro will not boot up. I was aware of something odd when I switched it off a couple of hours ago now when I push the 'on' switch something starts - fans I think, and the little indicator light on the front. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

I had the same issue I bought my MacBook Pro in Jan. my harddrive was bad and they had to replace it. I know the guy held down the shift botton for a little then pressed the power botton while still holding down the shift botton and it turned on but not completely since my hard drive was bad.

I recant my previous post saying I had no problems. I have five email addresses. ALL are used and are important to me; three are linked to business websites and have stationery printed. I CANNOT AFFORD TO CHANGE ALL THESE. All are used via MS outlook or outlook express. I thought I had a smooth changeover. This morning I have had nothing but eror messages asking me to reenter my passwords. I went onto BT.com as this is what is advised by your own tech help line. All asked me to get this new BT ID. I went through process with the first error address and answered yes to question do I have a BT account, of course I have how else would I have the emails? Then when I did the second, and did the same, eror message, so i pressed NO and said I would do it later. The I got the emails. The first one said it was linked to the account, the next two said i had to click on link to connect. I clicked and found that my bt account is now logged in with the wrong email address. So I went to manage preferences and tried to change it round - it won't let me. I have had three messages saying I have opted for online billing - I already had online billing. I am now completely lost and do not know whether I will ever get any of my emails ever again. I am so distressed. I have been off work for three years with severe depression and anxiety and this is making me ill. Please can someone tell me how I can just get back to normality. I now cannot even log into my online BT account. The error messages are coming up all the time and I cannot function like this. What on earth do I do? CAN A MODERATOR HELP ME PLEASE??????

Now, this phone push notifications from twitter don't pop up...only at times..what should i do??? i can't spend money for shipping fee to keep exchanging iPhones!! I tried doing ios restore and yes it did work BUT not for twitter..it only pops up at times and this NEVER happened on the previous phones!! I checked settings and everything was enabled. what should i do?? I'm VERY scared and worried!!! I'm begging you please someone help me! I don't have time left. HELP! MacBook will not start up

Hi all,
I bought a new internal hard drive and some new ram. My mac wont load now!
I replaced the original hard drive back in to see if that helped but it didn't.
What I noticed was, the clip that clicks into the hard drive fits in perfectly but on the new hard drive there's one extra small connector section which has nothing to plug into. Help! Have I bought the one hard drive?? I have a 13" MacBook Pro. Originally 250gb HD and 4mb ram. Bought in sept 2010 ish.

What OS X are you running? You can disable the CAPS LOCK key in the meantime, as a workaround. Starting in Snow Leopard (10.6), you have the ability to manually set modifier keys...If you are running Mountain Lion:
System Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys... > Select "No action" from the dropdown menu for "Caps Lock"
For 10.6 and 10.7 I do not know step by step off hand, but the instructions should be very similiar.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
