'song no longer exists'

when i try to sinc any playlist onto my ipod, the message comes up 'song no longer exists'.. i have not yet been able to put anything on my ipod. i have also tried 'consolidate library' but this does not help. please help!

The ! next to the songs can mean several things. The files have been moved from the iTunes music folder, or deleted from your computer entirely. Or the song files have been renamed/edited or otherwise changed by some method other than iTunes. In any event, iTunes has lost track of these song files.
Are you doing any of that?
More help may be forthcoming if you tell us what computer system you use, Mac or Windows?

  • Some songs no longer exist on ipod, but do on itunes

    Hello,
I don't know when it started (maybe 6 months), but my iPod doesn't syncronize as well as before. Now, some songs that I could see and listen before no longer exist. Of course, they still appear on iTunes. My albums are incomplete. I've tried to restore my iPod by using the option on iTunes, but unfortunately did not work.
I do not what I can do. I do need help.

Are these songs purchased from the iTunes store, or from your own cds?

  • Songs cannot be synced: playlists selected for syncing no longer exist

"Songs on the ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
I finally filled all of the memory in my nano for the first time, and I got a popup to put all of my playlists in one file so it wouldn't take up as much space. When I saw it, I deleted it, I wasn't aware of what was going on. I tried to fix it by changing the settings to manually sync music but that didn't work. Then I restored my ipod and now it doesn't have any songs on it. So I tried to uninstall everything, itunes and ipod to restore the settings back to normal but that didn't work either. Everytime I connect my nano, all it says it can't sync because the playlists don't exist anymore. I don't know what to do anymore. Can someone help me?

But then it says it can't read or write to my nano.
is that the message discussed in the following document?

My Ipod was "off power" for so long that it "forgot" all its music. Now when I plug it in to my base computer, rather then synching it says "songs on the ipod "name" cannot be updated because all the playlists for updating no longer exist"

  • Songs Can't be Synced Because Playlists No Longer Exist?

Color me kind of stupid, but could you tell me why all music has disappeared from my Nano (second) and iTunes tells me, after I've connected, "Songs on the iPod "My Name's iPod" cannot be synced because all the playlists selected for synching no longer exist." What did I do? How do I fix it? My more than 1,000 songs remain listed in iTunes, and I am able to get my little Shuffle going just fine, but the Nano is empty. Please help! Thanks so much!

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Songs on Owner's ipod cannot be updated because playlists no longer exist

I recently uploaded new CDs into my itunes library. When I tried to sync it said that it could only sync an owner's selection. I agreed because I was in a hurry. Later I came back to delete some of the songs that I do not use and I get the message "Songs on Owner's ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist." I tried to delete some of the unused playlists and now my ipod is blank with not a single song on it. I want to get my playlists back and my music back.

You will have to create a couple of new playlists to use to sync your iPod, then your iPod preferences will need to be change to sync on those specific playlists.

  • How do I add multiple songs to an existing playlist from the (no longer called) Library? Highlighting multiple songs and clicking the "Add to" button will only add the with the little arrow, not all the highlighted ones!

How do I add multiple songs to an existing playlist from the (no longer called) Library? Highlighting multiple songs and clicking the "Add to" button will only add the one with the little arrow, not all the highlighted ones! I am using the "new" iTunes.

For the moment there isn't a way for us end-users to control what is "matched" or "uploaded." That is purely a result of Apple's server-side algorithms.
To re-add multiple songs at once simply highlight all the songs you want to re-add, then right-click (or Control+click) the list and choose "add to iCloud."

  • I cannot play some songs on itunes, I get a prompt for an old email address which not longer exists and I don't know the password.  HOw can I get them authorized to my new email address and password?

I cannot play some songs on itunes, I get a prompt for an old email address which no longer exists and I don't remember the password.  How can I get these tunes transferred to my new email address and password?

In one of the help pages for managing your Apple ID (http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40), it shows two separate sections, one for Apple ID and one for Primary Email address. When I go to manage my Apple ID, I see only a single section for both. Can the two be 'separated', especially when you face the situation of having to discontinue your email address for some reason?
I also noticed that when navigating to Apple ID Support Communities, it shows my nickname 'dishdy'. How and when did I insert this? In the current sequence for creating an Apple ID I don't see this. In my current profile I don't see this.
In any case, I have freed myself from my previous Apple ID (@artemis.it) on my iPhone.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How can I authorize itunes songs purchased with ID that no longer exists?

I bought an Macbook Pro and am transferring all the songs I bought from
my old laptop to the Macbook. Some of the songs were purchased from
itunes using two different apple IDs that don't exist anymore. I tried to
authorize the Macbook to play these songs using the old ID and password but it
doesn't work (I'm pretty certain I have the correct passwords but it is possible they are wrong). Please don't tell me I can't listen to these songs
anymore. Is there anything I can do?
    Joseph

I have exactly the same problem! When I try to play a song purchased under an old Apple ID (before I moved to Japan), I get: "This computer is not authorized to play "(song title)". Would you like to authorize it? To play this song you must authorize this computer to play songs purchased using the account "(my OLD Apple ID)". You may authorize up to 5 computers for each account."
I tried to authorize the song using my OLD Apple ID and password, but it didn't work because that Apple ID no longer exists. The weird thing is that after trying to authorize a song with my NEW Apple ID, the computer tells me I have successfully authorized it but then the song won't play and I get the same Authorize Computer dialogue box popping up again when I click the play button or double-click the song title.
    It's VERY frustrating!

  • I have songs in my iTunes that were purchased under an old ID (an email that no longer exists). I forgot the password so when I try to retrieve it, it is sent to the old email which no longer exists, so I can't retrieve it so I can't play/transfer songs

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • Erasing songs that no longer exist question

So if you have deleted the file or also in my case renamed the song and moved it to another location, when you click on the song it says no longer exists and displays a ? beside its name now. My question is there a way to erase all songs that no longer exist or moved at once? Without having to click on every song to see if it does exist the deleting it? Or even a way to make all "?"s appear without having to click on them?

    anyone?

  • Moved songs to new computer but Apple ID no longer exists and I cannot play

I just bought my second Mac and moved all my iTunes songs to it. When I try to play a song, it asks me to authorize for my old AppleID which is no longer exists. So when I type it in, it says that the account no longer exists.
So I'm kind of stuck in a catch 22. I can't play the songs unless I authorize with my old Apple ID but that ID no longer exists.
I searched the forums quite a bit and did not find the answer. Anyone know what to do?
    Thanks fellow Mac users!

Why did you create a new Apple ID?
    No need to do that.

  • How to authorize songs from ITunes account that no longer exists

I have 26 songs in my iTunes library that I cannot play on my iMac and cannot synch with my 2nd gen Nano because they are not authorized for this computer. These files were purchased under an account that no longer exists, on a Windows computer I no longer own. I've long ago forgotten the password for that account and the e-mail account associated with that itunes account no longer exists.
So, how do I authorize my current iMac (running OS X, iTunes 10) to play and synch these songs?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hello coastiechris,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
About your only option at this point is to contact iTunes support on this one. If you cannot remember the password, there are no other options. Sorry.

  • HT1920 The e-mail address that I used to add songs to my ipod in iTunes no longer exists.  Most of the 2,600 songs were downloaded from CD's.  Is there a way to access the itunes account?

The e-mail address that I used to add songs to my ipod in iTunes no longer exists.  Most of the 2,600 songs were downloaded from CD's.  Is there a way to access the itunes account?

Only downloads from iTunes will be tied to that iTunes account, unless you subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded the other songs from your computer to it. If you can't remember the account's password then you could try seeing if you can get reset via this page : http://iforgot.apple.com
If that doesn't work then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they can help : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
When you've got access to the account you can update the primary email address on it to be one that you still have access to : http://appleid.apple.com
If you don't have the music that wasn't downloaded from iTunes on a backup then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back from your iPod : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Deleting songs on ipod that playlist no longer exist in itunes

I share the itunes with my son and we use to use the auto sync function. I figured out how to manually sync but deleted my original play list some how in between. Now I have playlist on my ipod that is not in itunes. I can drop song into my play list but I cannot figure out how to delete the song no longer wanted on my ipod since I no longer have playlist in itunes....please help.

If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and when it shows in the iTunes 7 source list click on the chevron (the little triangle) to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and either press the delete key on your keyboard or or right click and choose Delete.
