Songs in itunes library not found after being copied to larger EHD

Hey there,
Can anyone give me some advice about my itunes problem? I have recently copied all of my music to a larger external hard drive and now itunes can't find the songs. When this occurs, I have to show it the location of each song as it tries to play. I had the location set for the previous ehd and it worked perfectly but that hard drive was getting kinda full and now I fear that if I plug in my ipod to update some new songs, I may end up with an empty ipod because itunes can't seen to find the songs even though I have put the new hard drive's address in as the itunes music location.
Any Ideas? do I have to delete and then reinstall itunes?
Thanks
Peter

If the songs that show exclamation marks are all in the same folder, you can click on file at the top of itunes and choose add to library. Navigate to folder that has the music files, highlight it and click ok.
This will re-associate the files back to the itunes library.
As long as all the information is still the same it will not duplicate any songs in the itunes library.

  • IPhoto Library Not Found after Upgrade to Leopard

I was running the newest iPhoto under Tiger and I just upgraded to Leopard. I tried to open iPhoto and a message said, "iPhoto library not found." It was there before I upgraded from Tiger. I mostly use Adobe Bridge so I didn't have much in iPhoto but I'm curious to see why the library disappeared and whether it can be restored. I looked all around on the hard disk and didn't see the iPhoto library anywhere. Thanks.

Yes, it must have been upgrade and install because I followed the defaults. The iPhoto library was in the Pictures folder in Tiger and I never moved it. After the upgrade to Leopard, it was gone--it is no longer in my Pictures folder, nor does it seem to be anywhere else. I didn't touch it--the upgrade made it disappear. Why did that happen? What can be done about it? Thanks very much.

  • Library not found after upgrading to iTunes 7, old libraries don't work

For the second time since iTunes 7 was released, I've been asked to upgrade and did so without issue on the first day of upgrading. When I shut my computer down and came back the next day, however, the library is not found when I attempt to launch iTunes. Before, I simply reverted to iTunes 6 and copy/pasted a "previous library" as the current library. Now, though, I have a new iPod and it needs iTunes 7 to run. I've tried copy/pasting a previous library to the iTunes Library folder with no luck.
90% of my music is in the .m4a format so I need iTunes to listen! Not to mention, I need it to update my brand new iPod. I really need help on this, can someone give any advice? Thanks in advance.

Are you following the instructions from this article in the Apple Knowledge Base, in particular the renaming of the .itl file from the Previous Libraries folder?

  • ITUNES MUSIC NOT PLAYING AFTER BEING MOVED TO EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

I moved my itunes library to an external hard drive a long time ago no problem. Now i bought a 1TB to transfer it because i was running out of space on the other one so i transfer the folder itunes music everything went okay. But now when i turn off the other hard drive to make sure my music came to this new hard drive and play it doesn't. Unless i go one by one and find the file in the new hard drive it won't play. So what can i do? I just move the itunes music folder everything else is where it was. I followed all directions i found on the internet they all say just moved the music folder which i did. So where did i go wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

It depends on what you want. If you want everything to be on the external drive, and all of your music is in the iTunes folder now, then you can just drag the entire iTunes folder (the entire folder, not just the iTunes Music folder) to your desired location. Then hold down the Option key while launching iTunes. You'll be given a dialog box where you can select the iTunes library you want to use. Navigate to and select the iTunes folder in it's new location. Everything - playlists, ratings, etc. - should remain intact and all future purchases and imports should go to the new location on the external drive. Once you're certain that everything is working as it should from the external drive, you can then delete the iTunes folder from your internal drive.
Caution, though: once you do this, make sure the external drive is connected and mounted before launching iTunes. If the drive isn't mounted, iTunes will automatically switch back to using the default location on your internal hard drive and will of course show a blank library. This won't be a problem, though; just quit iTunes and relaunch using the Option key and select the folder on the external drive once again.

  • Itunes library not loading after upgrading

Please help:  I had to upgrade my itunes when I plugged in my Iphone and now it won't sync.  No matter what I plug in (Ipad, Ipad2, Iphone or Ipod) the only thing that happens is the Iphotos will pop up and recognize that I have plugged in my device, but the Itunes does not load and sync.  I don't know if I did something wrong, put when it asked if I wanted to use Icloud I clicked no.  I don't know if that is my problem now or what. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it, as I am lost!
    Thanks, Debbie.

  • Song in itunes library not showing up when opening itunes.

Computer crashed. Had to install itunes again. My songs Library do not show in itunes. But if I search for them I can see the folders.

I have this issue as well.  Just installed my Windows 8 Machine and went to look for all my CD's and iTunes purchases in the iTunes store and can't find them to download to the new PC.

  • AdobeAIR - Not found after being installed

I installed AdobeAIR and can not find it in programs.  When I click on the AdobeAIR installer icon on my desktop - it says it's already installed.  Please help! I really need this program to open.  What do I need to do?  (I'm using a Windows 7 operating system)

The exact same thing has been happening to me. I've actually been looking
all over the place for someone with a similiar problem. I have a brand new
gateway laptop with windows vista ultimate and everything works fine except
for when i load itunes. The actual program (the latest release, ver 7.1)
works fine and my optical drive is there initially, but when i restart my
computer the optical drive is missing from "my computer" and there is a
yellow exclamation point in the device manager telling me that windows could
not start the device. Once i uninstall itunes it comes back and works fine
again. So obviously this is a problem with itunes...and a very annoying one
at that because i have an ipod and i want to load my songs and use itunes on
my new computer, but for now it appears i'm going to still have to use my old
laptop for that, which really bites. If anyone knows anything else about this
or how to fix it i'd really appreciate being informed.

  • I can only add songs to itunes library, not directly to my ipod.

When I try & add a song to my ipod, nothing happens. I've tried drag & drop, add file...
& in Summary, I have checked Manually manage music & all the other boxes.
Why can't I add songs to my ipod directly?

Okay, never mind. I unchecked the 2nd box. :/ Doh...

  • When trying to sync or listen to songs in itunes library it says the song on itunes could not be used because the original file could not be found. I am using windows 7.

I have imported cds into my itunes and they appear on my playlist, but when I try to sync to my ipod or listen to them on my computer a message comes up stateing " the songs on itunes could not be used because the original file could not be found".  I have not deleted them and am importing them the way I always have.  This problem has only been for the last 4 or 5 months. Since updating to the last 2 itunes versions.

The message means that iTunes can not find the original imported music files. iTunes should display a red exclamation mark next to the songs it can not find. You will need to look on your hard drive for the songs/files and than correct the file path in iTunes or just delete the files in your iTunes library and import them again.

most songs in itunes library are not playing. Reason?

    I have a similar problem.
I just bought 2 albums (Pirates of the Caribean III and Linkin Park - Mintues to midnight) and every time I want to play one of the songs it asks me for my account password. After entering it, it says this computer was activated. But it still doesn't work!!
If I want to sync I get the same message:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod"
I've also bought a iPod-Game (Mahjong) and have the same problem...
    I have a 80GB video iPod.

  • HT1386 iPhone won't sync with iTunes. It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do

iPhone won't sync with iTunes and It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do. I tried everything!
I need to add my music to my iPhone from iTunes but its not working!

First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

To connect my ipod to itunes with windows 8 not see the option to add to add songs from itunes library. As I can solve this?

Since you can only sync your iPod with one computer at a time, you'll need to copy the contents currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to accomplish this task.

  • "iTunes MobileDevice library not found"

    Hi,
I get the following error message when trying to find a connected iOS device in the AIR for iOS Settings (Post publishing option):
"iTunes MobileDevice library not found. Please check your iTunes installation."
iTunes works fine, and I am able to see connected devices in that application. I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit, Flash Pro CC 13.1.0.266 and the latest iTunes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I've had this problem for since September 2013, but have not been able to get any useful information out of Adobe. They blame it on iTunes.
    See this thread for more:
iTunes MobileDevice library not found error when 'Install application on the connected iOS....'
It did use to work on my system. I have another colleague with exactly the same versions installed and it works for him.

  • Restart current song while iTunes is not the current active app

In prior iTunes 11 / Mtn. Lion when using an Apple keyboard the F7 key when pressed would re-start a song that was playing with one press, and go to the previous with 2. This functionality has changed so that now it will go to the previous track with one press.
Is there a way to change the functionaly back or, add a separate key command that allows me to restart the current song when iTunes is not the currently active app?
    Thanks!

I have a SteelSeries Shift keyboard, and experienced the same problem after updating to 10.4.
Found this little piece of software to fix the problem for me:
    http://code.google.com/p/hktunes/
It's not ideal, as it has to run in the system tray in order to work, but it's way better than being without the functionality of the hotkeys, untill the problem is fixed.
Hope this works for you guys as well!
