Sonos Wireless Music System not compatible with iTunes music!

Just purchased this $1,700 Sonos system so I can listen to my iTunes library throughout the house w/o spending $10,000 on a audio/visual professional!!! Anyone have any idea how to make these two systems compatible? I feel like someone just caved my chest in with a sledgehammer.
Powerbook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

iTunes works fine with it.
Songs purchased from the iTunes Music store will not work as they are DRM protected and the SONOS does not decode the Fairplay DRM used.
You can burn the songs to CD and reimport them and they will work fine.
I feel like someone just caved my chest in with a sledgehammer.
I’m wondering why you would spend $1700 without doing a little research...

  • Not compatible with ITunes

I'm using Airport Express to go on the net which works fine, but when I try to use AirTunes I get a dialogue saying The remote speaker "Base Station **** " is not compatible with this version of iTunes.
    It's 7.0.2 (the latest). I've turned IPv6 off.
I also can't configure it using Airport Admin Utility or Airport Setup Assistant as it just says an error occurred communicating with the base station.
    Help!!!!!

To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, use the AirPort Admin Utility to check these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    - Wireless Network: <select the existing wireless network>
    Music tab
    - Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
    - Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    - iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    - iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
    - Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • My new iphone software is not compatible with itunes

    Hi,
I recenty up downloaded the new software on my iphone and Ipad. Now I cannot plug into itunes on my Mac. It said the software is not compatible. I have tried to udgrade my itunes and download the lastes version, but apparently my Mac (brought in 2007) is not compatible with the new itunes. Im really not happy about the situation as you will appreciate as now I cannot update music, photo's etc.
Can someone please help? what can I do? I dont think its fair that I should have to spend money on upgrading anything just because I upgraded to the new iphone software.
    Thanks,
    Amanda

  • IOS7 not compatible with iTunes

I am running iTunes 11.1.5 on MacOS 10.6.8.  My iphone runs ios7 but this is not compatible with my iTunes and I am unable to sync between phone and iTunes.
What do I need to do to make the phone compatible with iTunes?

I solved the problem by upgrading to OS Mavericks.

  • Are some apps just not compatible with iTunes 10.5/iOS 5.0?

Seems some apps on my iPod, conflict with iTunes 10.5.
I started having the Store issue, which ALWAYS showed and worked, never had trouble accessing, never got a blank page... that started happening.
(I think live search when typing is a bad idea)
I had added back a few, by download and via iTunes, but next time I connected iPod, there was problem with iPod showing as a device, and with iTunes Store.
Removed the 4 apps I had added/reinstalled, and now back to normal.
Skype, RockMelt, iCab Mobile, Reeder, Transphotos
I don't know if it was the combination or if it was Skype or photo retouch/editing or one of the others.
I use to have 4.1GB "Other" also and that is now a more comfortable 1.1GB of space.
NY Times "newstand" would not work on 4.3.5, or would but could not by synched, could not be moved to another iPod screen. So basically broken and may have led to other problems. These apps that work with iOS 5 but are not backward compatible, or the reverse situation, they aren't really 5.0 compatible.
For me, I have to wait for Windows and iTunes to settle down, then connect iPod only. And when the iPod device would "vanish". Now where are the "dot one" patched bug-fix verfsions?
And for those still on 4.3.5 and earlier, where is the means to keep and not update to a new version believing it will be backward compatible (and maybe the specs said "iOS 4+" when it should say it reqquires "Newstand and iOS 5+".

Mounting a device in iTunes 10.5 with some incompatible apps will cause the device to unmount (disappear) from iTunes. Remove the offending app from the device before you next connect to iTunes and should now mount and stay mounted. Restart AMS if needed.
New app that I put on iPhone will cause this. iPhone no longer shows in iTunes: Devices.
    click on "Devices" in iTunes
    drop down list of categories
    Suggest for features:
Keep prior version in iTunes backup library
    Version, when installed or updated
When in Apps, have option to go to product page directly. Easier and more likely to provide feedback.
When in iTunes Store and in Apps, search would by default look first and foremost in App Store section.
iTunes Store Category: iOS 5 Apps.
Some are iOS 5 only and not backward compatible.
    Those should not be offered.
Some say that they are iOS 4.x and later but are no longer.
NYTimes now requires Newstand and 5.0 (I wrote and don't think they tested or were aware it wasn't backward or would not synch under iTunes 10.5). Was the prime reason I even upgraded to iOS 5, too! ouch.  iTunes 10.5 as tested vs as it actually is - differed and has significant impact. So give developers more access & time to test and certify against 10.5 before offering iOS 5. Why the rush instead of have a smoother rollout? it gets old afterawhile and looks rushed.
For now, be careful.  It is hard to know what is compatible, and what to avoid even now, or especially now with the updates from Friday 28th.
Uninstalling an app may be one way to "troubleshoot" but that also removes settings, and requires more work to authorize, customize, and setup again.
    Where is chkdsk for iOS?
Last, does an app crashing or freezing corrupt the settings? the app itself? memory? leave behind "other" storage addresses that can't be used until fixed by remvoing and restoring not just app, but everything?

  • Can't open Itunes. Update states system not compatible with leopard 10.5.8

I was trying to sync music to my Iphone through my Computer, Mac 0S X Leopard version 10.5.8.  Couldn't open iTunes.  There was a update for iTunes and I downloaded it but before it could be loaded to my computer, it said my operating system needed to be 10.6.8.   Where and what should I be looking for to update iTunes on my computer?
      Greg

    Greg,
If you can update your computer to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 that would be the smartest thing to do. Otherwise you can restore an earlier version of iTunes from your Time Machine backup. You can purchase Snow Leopard from Apple's online store for $20 and then use the 10.6.8 Combo Update to get the most up-to-date version of SL. You can find that download at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Before doing ANY update make sure you have have backed up your system using Time Machine or create a bootable clone onto an external HD using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Those cds not compatible with iTunes

For those, hwo are you supposed to get the songs into the iPod?

    Hello,
I am a bit annoyed after I bought a protected CD, which does not indicate that it is on the back and the front of the CD cover. I put in on my Power G5, and could not play it and of course cant rip it into my iTunes.
I heard from my friend that if you put a half inch of the clear tape (the one you can find in a stationery shop), applied to the edge (near the ring) of the shiny side of the protected CD, then put it into the CD Rom.
I tried it and guess what - yeah it played and ripped with no problem at all.
Worth a try but hope it would not make any damage to the len of the CD rom.

  • Audio Configuration not compatible with iTunes?

    Some help?

I tried to change my audio components.
    No change.

  • This version of iTunes is not compatible with iTunes Match

Starting this morning I'm getting this message, but there's no update available.
I'm using iTunes 10.5.1 -- there is no update available.
    Anyone have a solution?
    //B

Mine is still working, but it's 10.5.1 (42), under Snow Leopard.   I haven't checked Windows 7 today, but that was working yesterday.  I haven't updated anything recently.
Taking a guess here, but maybe it's the 64-bit version that's having an issue today?  You might want to give them a call.  Match upload was actually down for about an hour last night, so maybe there's still some maintenane going on that's affecting only 64-bit clients.

  • ITunes 7 shared music not compatible with previous versions

I installed iTunes 7 on my PC and have iTunes 6.0.5 on my Mac. From my Mac, my iTunes shared library on the PC is greyed out. When I select the shared library, I receive the following message:
"The shared music library ... is not compatible with this version of iTunes."
However, iTunes 7 on my PC can see and play sounds from the shared iTunes 6.0.5 library.
    1.42GHZ Mac mini, Sony RX-500E, 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I find this same situation and it would be nice if the two were compatible. I don't want to buy another computer just to play music from a shared library but I like the new iTunes for other reasons. I bet that's what Apple wants me to do though.
I am unsure why the two are not compatible because .mp3 and .aac files can be played in both versions and the files are unchanged. It would be nice if they would give an option for backwards compatibility but why would they spend the money to keep customers happy?
    Sorry for the cynicism.

  • Is it possible to download an earlier version of itunes. The newest version is not compatible with my operating system (I think).

The latest version of itunes is not compatible with my operating system (I think). Can I download an earlier version of itunes that will work?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can use the most recent version on the device, iOS 6.0.1. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972 Then, you'll be able to update in Settings > General > Software Update

  • How can I download my iTunes library from my old Mac to my new iPhone 5 without being able to use iMatch. iMatch is not compatible with my old Mac that runs on 10.5.1

Just got an iPhone 5, and learned that the 100 or more CDs that I had uploaded to iTunes on my older Mac cannot be downloaded to my new phone using iCloud/iMatch. I match is not compatible with the older operating systems. I spoke to a Apple genius, and he said that there is software out there that will do the job. Is anyone familiar with any of these? Frustrated, and need help.

I regret to say that you need a new computer. That G5, as good as it still is, simply cannot run the required software to be used with the latest iPhones and other software.

  • Unable to sync or backup my iPad2 with the new iTunes. I keep getting the error ""iTunes could not back up the iPad because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPad.". I've deleted all the old backups but still get this.

I'm totally frustrated by iTunes and don't know how to solve my problem. Like a lot of people on here I'm not able to sync or back up my iPad2 with my iTunes (version 10.4.1.10). I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. My iTunes worked just fine until the 10.4.xx updates came out and since June I've not been able to back up or sync the iPad2.
When I connect and try to sync I get the error message, “iTunes could not back up the iPad because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPad.”
I've deleted all the old backups so there are none on my system. I've deleted iTunes and re-installed the 64bit version several times but it has not made any difference. I've read and followed several suggestions on these boards about how to remove and reinstall everything but none have worked yet. I'm stumped here.

I had the exact same thing with my shuffle - same error message saying that it was corrupt so I restored it (wiping everything in the process) and the same message came up as soon as it reloaded. Thank god I didn't try it with my iPod or iPhone first. So many issues with this new version of iTunes!!!!!!!!
