Sony D-50 "boot-up loop" problem

I have a Sony D-50 portable recorder barely three months old that did something totally strange. Has anyone else had this problem?
During a shoot yesterday, I noticed that the Sony D50 I bought back in August would not turn OFF.
When I moved the power switch to the OFF position, the machine went into a "boot up loop," that is:
I'd turn it OFF after recording.
Screen goes black.
I get the "See you!" message.
Screen lights up again.
The word "SONY" appears as though it's gonna boot up,
Then the whole process starts over again
Screen goes black.
I get the "See you!" message.
Screen lights up.
The word "SONY" appears as though it's gonna boot up....
So, same thing late last night.
I get up this morning and turn it ON; it works fine until I turn it off, then it goes back into the "boot loop" thing again.
I tried everything I could think of, even searching for a "RESET" on the machine and in the Menu. I finally had to take the batteries out of it to shut it down.
Then, I did something that apparently---so far---fixed it.
This is so strange---right out of the Twilight Zone:
I put the batteries back in it, then it starts the loop again.
Since it won't turn OFF, I take the batteries out of it in the OFF position. I wait five minutes and put the batteries back in it with it in the OFF position.
Same problem---the "boot up loop" thing.
I take the batteries back out of it again in the OFF position and wait fifteen minutes. I put the batteries back in it while it's still in the OFF position. Guess what?
Problem solved: It's doesn't start the "boot up loop" thing.
So, I turn it back ON. Machine boots up fine and is ready to record.
OK, I turn it OFF.
Back to the exact same problem---It shuts down and goes into the "boot up loop" again.
I go back through the same process of removing and installing the batteries with the machine in the OFF position.
Nothing changes.
Then, I have an idea.
With the machine in the OFF position and going through the "boot up loop" thing, I remove the batteries.
I then move the power switch to the ON position before I put the batteries back in it---had not tried that before: reinstalling the batteries with it in the ON position. I install the batteries with the machine in the ON position.
Machine boots up fine and is ready for recording.
Now, I turn it OFF.
The machine shuts down fine with no "boot up loop" problem.
Putting the batteries back in the machine with it in the ON position instead of the OFF position apparently solved the problem.
So, I turn it back ON and then OFF several times.
Same thing: No "boot up loop" problem.
Do-do-Do-do....
The machine now works fine.
Anyone ever had this happen to a Sony D-50?
I'm wondering if I should send it to back to Sony before it does this again. For God's sake, it's only three months old!
I bought it after rave reviews in the "recorder" community, and I haven't found anyone else who has had this problem with one..

Sorry to see that you were having this issue with your PCM-D50 Linear PCM Recorder - if you continue having the issue the unit may need service - give Sony Business and Professional team a call and they will be happy to assist:

  • MacBook Pro does not boot when 'cold', Windows 7 on the other hand boots without any problem

    Hey everyone,
I have a strange problem with my MacBook Pro mid 2009 13" running OSX Mavericks. For more than a year I have trouble booting my laptop. A 'cold' start (a fresh boot) usually ends with the prohibition sign on a grey back ground (starting in verbose mode results in the error message that the main drive could not be found). So far so strange.
I have Windnows 7 installed as a bootcamp partition. If I start the laptop with Windows booting is no problem and Windows runs smoothly (what a terrible world we live in). If I let the laptop run for let say 10 minutes and restart the laptop Mac OS starts without any problems. (It doesn't work if I immediately restart after windows booted; also reinstalling Mac OS as a clean install from an external medium did not change the problem; disk utility always finds something to repair but neither discpermission repair nor disk repair got rid of the problem).
As an additional comment a WD 500GB Scorbio Blue replaced the original hard drive about a years ago. I had no problems with the hard drive initally and I can't really believe that there is a problem with the hardware, I mean, why does Windows start and Mac OS doesn't?
Thanks for your time and help!
    Marco

This isn't a direct answer to your issue but have you considered installing Wine so you can run the occasional windows app directly in OSX? It's a much more elegant solution IMHO. This avoids restarting all the time with Bootcamp and avoids crashing all the time (and the security risks) with Windows running.

If GTA IV believes the system is under specification even though the computer is powerful enough to run the game with higher settings, the following will fix this problem.
This will work if your problem looks like this: "resource usage 230/60" and you can't change any other setting
    Just follow the steps:
    Step 1: Create a text file named ‘commandline.txt’ (without the " ")
Step 2: Put the following statement inside it:
    i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 (with the -)
    i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0 (with the -)
Step 3: Open the main GTAIV folder (C/ program files (86)/ rockstar games/ GTA IV) and copy the commandline.txt file into it.
Step 4: locate the file "GTAIV.exe" (in GTA main folder)
Right click the file and select Properties
Under the shortcut tab, you will see an area that says Target
Modify the Target adding the command line after the last quotation mark (just add the statement you added in commandline.txt)

It should look something like this:

  • Not the usual 'login loop' problem, help.

The login loop problem I'm facing is not the usual login loop problem when starting up mac; it's when I'm trying to log into websites or applications (most of them, eg. facebook, instagram).
    I have tried:
using other browsers: Safari, Firefox, Maxthon, Chrome
clearing all cookies / caches / keychains / passwords
    repairing disk
    deleting launchservices cache

How do I solve this without having to reformat/install mac?
    Thank you.

That loop will loop until readLine() returns null, which will only happen when the other end closes its end of the connection, and it will block while no data is available.

Just installed windows 7 Ultimate using Boot Camp. Problem is when I choose to boot the windows partition, I get the windows icon on the screen showing that it is starting, but few second after, I get a blank screen. I suspect a driver (screen) issue, since I also installed Parallell using the boot camp partition and that works fine.
Do anybody out there has an ideal of what to do to solve this issue.

  • Boot and Reliability Problem

    Greetings,
In August 2008 I bought my first Mac and ever since have trouble with it. I already contacted Apple Support, Sonnet Support, Lacie Support, still there is no solution on the table.
I thought, before I have the maschine picked up I give it a shot in these fora.
    My configuration:
Mac Pro 3.0Ghz, 16 Gig, 4x 750 Gig HD internal, 3x 1TB external (Time capsule, 2x Lacie quadra), Sonnet E4P.
    My main problems:
    1. Noise level:
The maschine emits a humming noise, intervalling up and down, probably located where the PSU is installed (decibel meter check). The noise is clearly audble, even over the AHT noise of the fans speeding up. The resonance can be felt if a hand is put on the chassis.
I asked friends with similiar maschines, and none of them reports this extremly annoying hum. I checked the HD sleds, all sits tight.
I assume this is only able to be resolved by sending the maschine to service.
    2. Boot and Reliability Problems:
If my Mac is out over night, and on booting it up in the morning, it takes around 6-7 minutes until boot cycle is complete. If I am not mistaken, this should be more in the region of 30 seconds.
Up until recently, after boot OSX did not find a harddrive, but I solved this, the reason was that the useless dealer I bought it from formatted one internal drive as MS-DOS FAT, go figure.
However, I need to run a RAID-0 via OSX, and will exchange the WD Caviar SE for WD 1TB RE3 for that purpose. I am also having trouble with my xternal Lacie Drives on Sonnet E4P, but I send system logs and reports to Sonnet still waiting on their answer.
Would it be correct to assume that less than one minute is a more appropriate boot up time?
Does anyone else around here have this noise problem I described?
    Best wishes

    Good evening The Hatter,
yeah, I studied a couple of those threads and tried to apply findings. Tell me, you say you have your MCP on the side, does that not cause problems for the DVD drive and/or other parts. The MCP does not look as if it is designed to lay on it's side.
I tried to de couple the chassis from the floor with heavy carpet underlay, still the same. I am not fuzzy, but this sound is really disturbing in a quiet environment, and I often need it quiet when I work on photographs. I left the case open, I pushed the lever half way up, nothing resolved that.
Allow me to ask you something else, you seem to have a lot of Mac years under your belt, would you think my boot problems can come from a dodgy OSX installation? The dealer I bought it from in August installed everything, but has proven to be rather incompetent and very sloppy. The first few weeks, on 10.54, I had probably 8-10 kernel crashes, which stopped after 10.5.5 and so far only occurs when I use sleep mode, hence I can;t use it anymore.
The pain in the butt is that I probably would be best advised to do a complete clean install, hence have to authorise all my software again. - Sigh - I intend to wait with that until i received new HD's.
    Best wishes

  • Possible solution to "Looping" problem

Hello all, I've read several threads here dealing with a "looping" problem, I'm not sure what the ins-and-outs of this issue is but it seems to affect many different config and different manufacturers are blaming each other... check out the link below (mind the wrapping) for what might be a real solution at the Via forums. I happened upon this because I could not get a stable system out of my MSI via-km266 mobo with dual display.

  • Sony SmartWatch 2 boot loop

    Hello,
my Sony SmartWatch 2 is caught in a boot-loop, when turned on, it shows first the Sony logo, then a progress-bar, as if new firmware was installing, and after it finishes, the watch restarts, and again: logo, progress-bar, restart...
I think that flashing a new firmware would solve this issue, but I cannot find the way to do it. This method was officialy supported by Sony, as this post testifies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch-2/help/reset-smartwatch-2-t3006929/post58321343#post58321...

  • MSI Z77A-G45 Boot Loop problem

    Hi,
I recently built my computer 2-3 months ago. It worked fine until a couple days ago it started boot looping. It doesn't even get to BIOS. I think it's my motherboard gone bad. I switched CPU and memory with another computer and it works fine but when i put it in my computer it boot loops again. before i go through this whole warranty ordeal does anyone have any ideas i could try? Thanks!

    >>Posting Guide<< please list all the components in your system!
    Motherboard?
    CPU?
    RAM?
GPU (if you have a dedicated graphics card)?
PSU (Power Supply Unit - please list the +12v rail/s amperage rating/s on its data sheet)?
what you have described is usually either a Bad Motherboard or a Inadequate/overstressed PSU! so the components list of what you used to build the system is Very important to determine what exactly has gone wrong.

  • Basic Snow Leopard install with special customization:  setup assistant infinite loop problem.

    Hi, all,
Based on this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1395118?start=0&tstart=0, I'm assuming there's a problem with setup assistant running after a customization install reboot.  But I could be wrong.
    Here are the details:
    MacBook Pro
Clean OS X Snow Leopard install (I was "told" by IT I had to wipe the disk and re-install OS X after backing up personal files).
Installed extras I need/want (in particular, XCode, though I went ahead with the other optional software as well).
Installed the IT supplied "Supplemental CompanyName Installation Disc" (also referred to as "CompanyName Supplemental Installation Disc" ), which is supposed to create a customized, IT supported, setup.
When the supplemental install is done, the system is rebooted.
There is then a "Welcome" screen (starscape, with almost endless bombardment of the word welcome in various languages), finally followed by:
    a) select language; b) select keyboard; c) select timezone; d) Don't forget to register your Mac, with a "done" button.
Clicking the "done" button goes to a blank grey screen. and then loops back to redo the "Welcome/language/keyboard/done" sequence, ad nauseum (that is, infinitely repeated).
Per the above mentioned post, I have rebooted to the Install DVD and run disk utility, repairing permissions.  No difference on reboot.
Boot to safe mode goes to the same setup assistant sequence, not a login screen.
Another Mac user here suggested checking for /var/db/.applesetupdone, since missing it, or if it's correupt, could cause this problem.
So I booted to single user and checked for this file.  It is not there.  On the off chance the file is a simple flag and the content doesn't matter,
I did fsck/remount and touch /var/db/.applesetupdone but this did not change anything either.
Presumably, the file must be present and must contain some data.  If this is true, can it be created manually and put in place via single user mode?
Or are there other, better solutions someone could suggest?
    Many thanks.
    Bob

Ah, it seems I finally found something useful, at http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=84825
One of the responders supplied the content of their .applesetupdone file.
I was able to get this onto my Mac, in /var/db, as .applesetupdone (just to be safe, I linked that name to .AppleSetupDone, the name as mentioned on the above site).  Note that both names begin with a dot (hidden, in UNIX parlance).
On reboot I was presented with the CompanyName specific login screen.  It took a little bit more mucking around with passwords, but I was eventually able to login without any problem.
