Sony Handycam Digital8 - Capuring Set up

Hello,
I've captured some clips before using my Sony Handycam Digital8 camera ... however, now the audio isn't matching up.
I know this is a set up issue .... however, I have no idea where to setup my camera in the settings.
Is it Easy Setup? and if so, which selection is it?
Many thanks!!

If your Sony will shoot in 48KHz (16 Bit), you should change it from 32KHz as you will be getting slightly better sound. (Make sure the Easy Setup matches of course).
One of the reasons for having the lower setting on a camcorder was to allow audio dubbing, but now that we use computer editing, that capability is unnecessary .
Ian.

  • Uploading Digital8's to MacBook via Sony Handycam?

Can anyone help me with uploading my old Digital8's to my MacBook? Just bought the MacBook yesterday...1st Mac and love it so far. I've plugged my Sony Handycam up to my MacBook via the iEEE cable/USB of Mac and its not recognizing it. Any other suggestions?

  • Unable to capture "Sony Handycam" to iMac

I bought Sony Handycam 2007 and worked on PC windows but this year I bought a new iMac computer but when I captured the video to iMac from the Sony Handycam and it won't open or work.... iMac said that I need to download software called MPEG or MPEG2, so umm do I need to buy a software or download free from internet??  Or do I need to buy new programe called "OS X Lions"  I'm new with iMac and patient to learn everything on iMac.

If the Vista install was a standard installation, Vista should recognize the camera automatically and install the correct drivers. Nothing you need to do. Make sure that you connect the firewire cable first between the camera and the on-board firewire connector. Do not try to connect it to the ATI card. Once the cable is connected, turn on the power on the camera and set it to VCR. Vista will then install the necessary drivers automatically and if they have been installed previously, show the autoplay box. Make sure that the menu in the camera is correctly setup to use the iLink connection and the format you shot in, so either DV or HDV. Consult the Sony manual for that. If the does not work, try a different cable first.

  • Sony Handycam DCR-HC26 not recognized by iMovie'08

System: iMac PPC G5, 2GB DDR SRAM, running 10.5.8
    iMovie: '80 7.1.4 (585)
Camera: Sony Handycam DCR-HC2, plugged in (battery in too), in Play/Edit mode (not record mode)
    Firewire: 4-6pin, tried 2 cables.
Alert message: "No camera connected. To import video please connect a camera."
Camera on/Firewire in before starting iMovie; also tried restarting with Firewire already attached, no joy.
I DID successfully import video from this camera to another mac about two years ago -- it wouldn't recognize it at first, but I bought a new cable and that took care of it. This time I used the "old" (new last time; gold connections) AND bought a new one. Nothing doing.
Anyone have any help to offer? If I have the time I'll try to dust off the (home) machine that I used a few years ago (not sure which iMovie that was) and see if that works...
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odwenGB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • IPhoto compatible with Sony Handycam (with mini-DVD)?

I have a Sony Handycam and a MacBook Pro with iPhoto. The Handycam takes decent pictures and video, but it does not have a port for a memory stick. Also, the upload software that the Handycam came with... well... isn't so good. (I'm not sure if it's even Mac-compatible.)
Unfortunately, the Sony Handycam is not listed as one of the "cameras" that iPhoto comes with. (I put the word "cameras" in quotes because the Handycam is more a video camera than a still camera even though it takes still pictures.)
If anyone here knows of a workaround so that I can upload pictures from my Handycam to my MacBook Pro using iPhoto (or other appropriate software in the iLife suite), please let me know! I'm dying to have an excuse to not install the uploading software the Handycam came with.
    Thanks in advance!

The Handycam's video format is one that in not OS X compatible. i don't know about the stills, however. I don't believe the mini-DVD disc that it create is Mac readable either. It's designed to go straight to DVD players and display the videos and stills on a TV set.
Do a search in the iPhoto 6 forum for "Sony Handycam" and you'll find previous topics on the subject. You might also try in the iDVD and iMovie forums.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Sony handycam 8cm DVD footage

i have about 30 8cm DVD's that i need to log and capture that were shot on a sony handycam dvd camera. How do i go about setting up FCP and using the disks to get the footage into FCP. The footage on the disks would be compressed as mpeg2 already right? so how would this affect the whole thing!
would love to hear your thoughts!
    T

You can search this forum and find much on this topic, but the gist of it is, if you have a camera or deck that will convert analog to digital, go rca from dvd player to camera/deck, and firewire into FCP. Set capture settings for non-controllable device. Use capture now.

  • Mac OS9 Driver for Sony Handycam DVD-DCR100

I recently purchased an iMAC and want to start making movies with my Sony Handycam (USB device, no firewire). The apple support team directed me to the Sony support site to get a driver. Sony wanted me to pay for the driver and did not indicate if the driver was for Mac OS or not. I'm stuck. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would appreciate it.

I purchased a Sony Handycam Camcorder (DCR-SR82) and have a MacBook. I had recorded several videos and was anxious to transfer them on to my computer and then burn DVDs. I opened the camera box to find that the software provided with the Sony Handycam is for PCs only---there is no Mac installation disk. So, I began doing research and with some major help from a Mac genius, was able to get it all ironed out. My mission is to spread the word so that no one feels the need to return their Sony Handycam just because they are Mac owners! The first step is to make sure that the processor on your Mac is Intel, as I believe that is one of the requirements for all of this to work. Second is to buy iLife '08, which is around $80. Next, you can import your videos into iMovie without any difficulty and enjoy all of the editing features that iMovie provides. Once you have imported your movies, you can open iDVD and burn DVDs without difficulty. If you have an external DVD burner, which I do, you need to download one program which is free and is called Patchburn. This program will enable iDVD to recognize an external DVD burner. Then, you are all set to enjoy your Sony Handycam + all of the joy of editing movies with your Mac. Have fun!

  • Sony handycam as webcam ??

    Hi all
Thanks for previous advice. I bought a Sony dcr-hc37e and it is excellent and I am well pleased with the way it records the gigs we play.
My question is this. Can I use it as a webcam ?? I currently use isight but the quality is relatively poor. I tried to use the sony this morning and it seemed to connect ok but no picture at the other end. Is it possible ?? and are there a few buttons top press to make it work ??
    Many thanks
    Tony

    Hello Tony,
Sue asked us to take a look at your question, so here goes. Summary first:
Because of the title of your question, I will not give detailed responses concerning your iSight's quality. You may find help for that here. If you want more help with iSight, you might want to post your specifics in iSight Discussions.
Regarding your Sony "handycam" question, I cannot find a user's manual for your DCR-HC37E, but it would seem that it should work.
Under the "More features" section of the page linked above, you will find that your camera offers "i.LINK™ (DV output)".  This is Firewire DV, and both iMovie and iChat expect Firewire DV input signals.
More specifically: if you can successfully use your camcorder as a video source for live recoding with iMovie, you should be able to use it as a webcam for iChat. Both my Sony's (DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70) work fine.
Some Sony models later than mine (and some Canons, too,) did not work, but I believe the newer Sony's like yours are Mac-friendly again. You can tell whether your Sony works just by trying it.• You will need a Firewire cable that has the correct ends for both your Mac and your Sony camcorder's DV Firewire port.
    • Use your camcorder's Firewire output, not the USB port.
    • Set your camcorder's output to DV (digital video), not to PAL or NTSC.
    • Disable any "battery-saver" or "tape-saver" setting that powers down your camcorder after a brief time. Some models require that you keep the camera plugged into power rather than using the battery. Others require that you take the tape out or open the LCD viewer door. Check your owner's manual for help on this if needed.
    • If you can record live video from your camera into iMovie, you can try it next with iChat AV using the same camera settings and connections. It should work.Try this and let us know whether you can get things going.
If you still cannot get it working, or if you want to use your camcorder as a webcam with some other application that is giving you trouble, give as many specifics as possible. We can offer more focused suggestions based on your detailed response.
    Cheers,
    Jim

  • SONY Handycam DCR-HC19E, Capable of Passing Digital Analog Signal?

    Hi
I wondered if my Sony Handycam DCR - HC19E (miniDV) is capable of sending an analog signal through firewire to my computer as I wish to monitor my progress on my tv.
    And:
Should I be on record or play/edit mode on camera?
What to do if I wish to playback my videos on FCP 5?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what settings on the camera, but this is the playthru checklist:
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Is Sony Handycam HDR-SR10 a supported device for Premiere Elements 10?

Is the Sony Handycam HDR-SR10 a supported device for Premiere Elements 10?

    happyherbert
I cannot give any guarantee as to whether you can make a USB connection between camcorder and computer/Premiere Elements 10 Get Media/"Flip, AVCHD, Cameras, Phones or Removal Drive"/Video Importer but it might work.
But worst case, which is not so bad, is transferring the AVCHD files to the computer hard drive and then importing the files into a Premiere Elements 10 project with the program's Get Media/Files and Folders.
If you have Full 1080i30, then the project preset that you would set before you import the files would be
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    Full HD 1080i30
We can discuss more about settings when you have more details.
You are at a disadvantage with Premiere Elements 10 on Windows Vista (32 or 64 bit). In that arrangement, Premiere Elements 10 is a 32 bit application with the limitations of 32 bit system. AVCHD is a rather resource demanding format. If Premiere Elements 10 were on specifically Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, then it would be a 64 bit application that could take advantage of the 64 bit resources. All that would translate into getting a larger project taken to successful completion with a greater frequency.
Please review and then we can go further into the details and then decide what next.
    Thanks.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odw_en_GB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E

  • How to transfer a Sony handycam dvd footage to mac?

    Hey Folks,
My friend from Florida just sent me a DVD of some footage he would like me to edit - now I thought he actually sent me a DVD but it ended up being a small mini dvd disk for a Sony HandyCam. Now Im left with figuring it out how can I get this into my mac - it's very small I don't want to insert it into the DVD drive incase it screws it up. So let me know what to do here is a snapshot of the DVD i got so you can see what i mean. I put my hand in the image to show you how small the DVD is and hoping someone on here would know what to do it's the size of my palm (and I big person or anything).

    my best,
    Joey Dee

I've had to do this a couple of times. The first time I did it the convoluted way. Still have an old G4 with a tray-loading DVD drive. So I put the DVD in that. Copied the Video_TS file to my current computer (17"MBP) where the application DVDXDV resides and used that to convert to QuickTime DV-NTSC or DV-PAL in your case, since I don't like working with MP4 in Final Cut.
The last time I did this, I simply put the miniDVD in my $25 Cyberhome DVD player, ran S-video and RCA audio cables to my DSR-11 as a thru device and did Capture Now while playing back the DVD. I used DV-NTSC coded again in FCP and the quality was actually very good.
If I had to do it again, I'd do it the second way, with a consumer DVD player and setting some kind of analog to digital transfer.
P.S. The first time, before resorting to the old G4, I had the miniDVD jammed inside my 17" PowerBook for an hour before I managed to get it out...not recommended.

  • Sony Handycam - file conversion to DV but images still not clear ?

I am a new user to iMac have had read some great ideas through this discussion page. The first issue I have encountered is using my Sony Handycam (DCR-SR62) with the MAC ! Following advice, I have downloaded Streamclip + Quicktime MPEG-2 and have managed to convert image to 'DV' file and then import this to iMovie. My problem now is that the video footage is still not all that clear - any other suggestions would be great !

    thanks for the help.
+2. You mean you have an old cable (that used to work) AND a new cable? And neither seems to work?+
I actually had 2 firewire cables, one old one, one not so old, neither will work with the camera, so I bought a brand new one, which also doesn't work.
I know the firewire port in my mac is fine - I use it constantly, and I've also tried the camera on 2 other Mac's so I know it's not that.
I tried plugging the camera into my Macs with the USB connection but Image Capture can't detect it. But I also tried plugging it into a Windows PC laptop today - it recognised that something was connected (although didn't have the software to operate it) so I presume it can still connect via the USB.
I guess that the firewire out port on the camera itself is the most likely problem (I can't have 3 broken firewire cables!!). One of the pins in the port on the camera may have been damaged somehow when plugging or unplugging the cable. Hopefully I'll be able to download the video on a PC using a USB connection, but I don't know yet! And I don't know how easy it would be to fix the port on the camera... presuming that is the problem... and it's not just been 'disabled' by a setting somewhere somehow...

  • Compatibility FC studio w/ sony handycam HDR-HC9E

impossible to work with HDV from the sony HDR-HC9E!... the software doesn't recognize it when in HDV mode!... an updating seems necessary as soon as possible!...
(intermediate solution seems possible: FC pro accepts to capture HDV files from the handycam although the setting is on: "DV PAL anamorphic"...)

I'd upgrade.. you're G5 won't run the latest, but it would edit the video captured with your intel machine... AVCHD comes in directly to FCP and is transcoded there to ProRes which blows the doors off the AIC codec... Big time.
    Jerry
If I transcode the AVCHD to ProRes with my intel machine will my G5 with FCP 5 be able to read it, or will I have to upgrade that to FCP 6?
