Sony HDR-CX6 AVCHD/Memory Stick Camcorder Crashes iMovie

Has anyone had any luck importing HD footage from a Sony HDR-CX6?
iMove recognizes the camera and imports SD footage fine, but it crashes when I try to import HD.
I can see & play the HD footage from the camera - just not import.
Also, I have to delete any SD footage if I want it to see the HD stuff.

Ok, I have it working now!
I saw a few people suggesting perian was causing problems with other cameras so I removed it and it worked. Don't just disable in the prefs, had to search for perian.component and remove it manually.
Thought I'd post the solution incase anyone else is having trouble.
Btw, this is the UK model of the camera - I know someone was looking for a UK camera that is supported, so I can confirm this is (and video looks great).

  • Premiere CS 5 presets and Sony HDR-CX6

    Hi,
I want to try out adobe premiere cs 5 with some footage I shot with my sony HDR-CX6 camcorder.
When I look at my footage, the info is:
    File Path: M:\BDMV\STREAM\00024.MTS
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 31,6 MB
    Image Size: 1440 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 25,00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - 6 channels
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - 6 channels
    Total Duration: 00:00:44:05
Average Data Rate: 731 KB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,3333
When I look under the presets under AVCHD (I think that's the format my footage is shot in) I can't find one with that image size.
Does it matter if I chose for example the 1080i50i preset? The image size is 1920x1080. Will this give problems with my footage?
Or should I chose the HDV presets? Those have the 1440x1080 size, but it says anamorphic? Will this give problems with my footage?
I want to be sure before I begin editing, so I don't have to start all over again when I finish the project...
    Thanks!

I thought the trial didn't even have those options.
Now if your giving it a try on someone else's computer try using the New Items button by dragging your footage to it and it will create the correct sequence for your footage.

  • Sony HDR-SR1 AVCHD

Does FCE or FCE support Sony HDR-SR1 AVCHD with USB 2.0? I have bought this top camera and now I want to edit it with FCE/FCP and burn this on a blue ray disc with AVCHD codes. Does apple support this camera and AVCHD codes?

    Hi BartAmsterdam
Apple also published documents like this.
Did You Know?—Importing Video From a Flash Device MPEG-4 camcorders may have a USB connector instead of a FireWire connector.
To transfer video from one of these devices, connect the device to your computer using the USB port. Your MPEG-4 camera or device appears as a hard disk on your desktop. You can open the hard disk icon and drag the video footage into your iMovie HD project or to your desktop for importing later.
When you import footage from an MPEG-4 device, your video is imported as a single clip, iMovie HD does not break it up into clips automatically. You cannot use the capture controls to import your video or control your camera, nor can you use the Magic iMovie feature to import video automatically.
Image capture (Mac HD > Applications > Image Capture) may break up the clips as it appears to do for most HDD and SD type cameras including those that use MPEG-4 for video. Personally I like this better as one doesn't have to wait to download in real time.
    Hope this helps.
    Sweet Polly

  • Sony HDR-SR11 /AVCHD/NON-INTEL MAC/HELP

I have called both sony and apple tech support and both offered little help today.
I have a Sony HDR-SR11 that I shot some HD content with. The computer registers that the camera is there as an external HDD. Sony's FAQ suggested that I save the AVCHD file to my HDD and it should work....NOPE
I hooked it up to a PC and installed the software it comes with and I was able to view my files but not export them into a normal format.
I have 2 sets of files one set is .m2t and the other is .mts both say they are Unix Executable files..***!
I have a Power MAc G5 running Leopard and Final Cut Pro 6 I ran the software update and it says that as of today 100% up to date yet it says that FCP should be 6.0.2 mine says 6.0
Apple support said that it may not even work on a non-intel Mac.....HELP
anyone get this to work, supposedly Imovie work s with it but the files are grayed out in the menus for imovie so I dunno all I know is I need this footage off the camera ASAP.
    Thanks

I came here actually looking for a different solution and not the one I'm about to say... but I will tell you that the new iMovie will import the video straight off the camera (in either 960x540 or 1920x1080). It's not ideal, but it works.
In fact, I'm doing so right now, but I came here hoping there might be news of a new fix so that FCP will import it directly (it will not, log & capture will not do it, just so others are clear on this).
That said, the video off the camera looks very nice. I'm still happy with the camera, even if I do have to do one hoop jump before I can edit.

  • After Effects CS5 and Sony HDR-SR1 AVCHD (.MTS) File Format

    Hi everyone,
I've just started with After Effects, and I the only video camera I have is an old Sony HDR-SR1 camera, which records in 1080i and uses the AVCHD file format. I've recorded a few videos, in which I proceeded to try and import to After Effects. The program came up with this error: "After Effects error: '0020.MTS' cannot be imported - this '.mts' file is damaged or unsupported." I understand that this error is pretty common, but I do not understand how to fix it. I've already tried the Media Encoder, and the videos that come out are horrible quality videos that are nothing like the videos recorded on the camera. I've also tried Sony's included Picture Motion Browser (I have the latest version) and when I try to convert, the video also comes out horrible quality and always has these annoying lines running across the video. Please help!
    Thanks!

Actually, the AE should recognize the AVCHD footage, since I imported one of my recoedings, which is 1080p MTS to AE, and it worked. Maybe the problem lies in 1080i. I always deinterlace my 1080i files and then import them to AE. You may try to deinterlace your files and then import them to AE.
As for the deinterlacing, you can google or you can give brorsoft mts converter, which I'm using now,  a try. It has a codec for AE and Adobe Premiere, wchich make it easier to import files to AE. Besides, you can convert your 1080i files to MPEG-2 and then import them to AE.

  • Sony HDR-SR5E AVCHD on OS X?

hi everyone, after seeing the new iLife'08 suite today, i just couldnt resist and ordered it. At one point in the introduction video they show a AVCHD camera ( don't recall which brand right now ). Now i was looking on the web and found the attractive Sony HDR-SR5E, and i was wondering if anyone would happen to know if it works with the current ilife/video production software, or ( though at this point it's a long shot to ask ) with the new iLife'08? Since it obviously supports AVCHD.

    Hi capz.
    I check the sites:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/whatsnew.html
and it truly said iMovie supports standard and high definition video, as well as the most popular formats, including DV, HDV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and even AVCHD
I haven't gone to deep since I still using iLife '06.
But I think it worth to try to get '08, and even if it still won't communicate with your camera, you still get the best beginer ro intermediate editing program available.
    Good Luck.

  • What exact file format for exporting AVCHD to HDD of Sony HDR-SR12E (AVCHD) Handycam?

When you are finished editing AVCHD files with Adobe Premiere Elements 11, what is the correct file format for exporting back to the hard drive of the Sony HDR-SR12E handycam?
I used Sony Play Memories software to import AVCHD (.m2Ts) files at 1920x1080i PAL resolution. I tried rendering to several file formats after editing, but the files could not be exported in high definition back to the hard drive of the AVCHD camera.
I WAS able to import files from camera in Play Memories and then export them straight back to camera WITHOUT any editing, but of course you wouldn't bother doing this normally.
I grew to love using Premiere Elements 10 for editing sd footage from my mini dv camera. However,  I've just purchased the AVCHD handycam and expect to receive my newly purchased copy of Premiere Elements 11 in a couple of days.
Can anybody suggest the correct file format to produce for exporting AVCHD footage edited in PE11 originally captured on the Sony HDR-SR12E back to the camera?
    - Regards, Phil

    Phil
Premiere Elements 10 has the Share/Tape (Record to DV). And, even that is for just DV, not HDV. There is no such choice in Premiere Elements 11 and 12.
So, you are going to have to match up the properties of the original with Export settings and try to get the file exported onto the camera's hard drive if that is possible. Does the Sony user guide give instructions for how to import one of your video to its hard drive?
The theory depends on how close you want the export of the edit to match the camera's original. There is no .m2ts file extension in any of the Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD choices. If the .m2ts file extension is a must..
One scheme to get a AVCHD.m2ts 1920 x 1080i25 for your camera's hard drive - lots of ifs
    1. Publish+Share/Disc/AVCHD and burn to folder using presets = H.264 1920 x 1080i PAL Dolby.
(The preset cannot be customized so you will go with the Adobe bitrate.for the preset)
    2. Then go to the folder saved to the computer's hard drive, open the BDMV Folder, then the STREAM Folder of the BDMV Folder, and use the 00000.m2ts file there as your file destined for your camera's hard drive.
If the hard drive will accept ..m2t, then you could use Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = M2T - H.264 1920 x 1080i25 and customize the export settings under the Advanced Tab/Video Tab and Audio Tab.
Please review and then let us know if any of this works for you.
    Thanks.

  • IMovie '08 7.1.4 breaks Sony HDR-SR11 AVCHD Import

Back in August I upgraded to iMovie 7.1.4 and I can no longer import files from my Sony HDR-SR11 AHCHD. IMovie recognized the camera, opens the import window, begins the import but at the end of the import the following message appears in a dialog box "An Error Occurred During Import: There was a problem importing 1 of 1 clips from your camera. Please review the imported movies carefully." No movie loads. Has anyone else had and resolved this problem? Oddly, when I upgraded to Final Cut Express 4.01 the same problem occurred so I use FCE 4.0 instead. I am really interested in determining why these upgrades broke the import with my camera.

I was using Sony HRD-SR12E and facing same problem "An Error Occurred During Import" when importing long clips. Problem solved with directly connect the USB2 into my InterBased iMac. Thanks!

  • Sony HDR-SR1 AVCHD Compatibility

    Greetings friends and users-
In addition to the workaround of playing the video back through some other device like a DV camera or Pyro AV Link has anybody found any other way to get video out of this bad boy and into the Mac?
Thanks in advance for any and all input-

  • Imovie HD6.0.3 won't see my new Sony HDR-CX11E USB connected camcorder

Despite spending 4 hours now and wanting to shoot myself in the face. My brand new Sony HDR-CX11E is not being recognised by Imovie HD 6.0.3.
I have followed the instructions to the letter about a hundred times now. I'm using a Intel Core Duo imac, when I plug in the USB cable the memory stick is showing on the desktop, but when I open Imovie.... nothing, No Camera Attached. I have tried opening imovie with every available option tagged, DV, DV Wide, HDV 1080, HDV 720, Mpeg4 but every time it just fails to see the camcorder.
I read in one of my thousand searches on the subject that you first need to delete any Mpeg2 content from the camera, but I only bought it today and can't find any to delete, I even reformatted the stick to no avail.
    PLEASE help !!!!!

iMovie HD6 requires a miniDV camcorder to capture video via Firewire. It will not work with any other format of camcorder, like yours, that only has USB.
If you still want to stay with HD6, and who wouldn't, as it is still the best non pro editing platform there is, you should return that cam for a Sony miniDV model.
Otherwise, you will need to get iLife 09.

I am an official idiot, I mistakenly thought I was using the latest version of imovie which I actually got with ilife09. Cos I was clicking on the imovie icon in my apps. I just assumed when I installed ilife09 it would overwrite the old version. All i had to do was open imovie 09 which i have done and all is now well.
That's hours of my life I'll never get back.

  • IPhoto Pics - Sony ProDuo Memory Stick Problem

I have a Mac mini. Using a Sandisk Micromate Reader to plug a Sony 4 GB ProDuo Memory Stick into the USB port, I transferred ~200 jpegs from iPhoto to the memory stick's DCIM folder and could see them just fine via my computer after the transfer. But when I mailed the memory stick back to my son, he not only couldn't see any of those pictures I'd downloaded--but also could no longer see the pictures he'd taken and sent me. He says the memory stick appears empty, but I know it's not. What does he/I need to do so he can see them both on his Sony Cyber-Shot camera and a computer? Thanks.

This is not an iPhoto issue but a general operation issue or a Sony issue
In general camera's require a very specific format for their memory and if there is some small error in that the camera does not see the photos - If you want to send photos to him I suggest taht you simply export those photos to a desktop folder and drag that folder to a cleanly formatted memory stick = he should be able to load those onto his computer  --  he will not be able to see them on his camera - to do that you need to work with Sony support to get the required format exactly correct

  • Sony hdr cx7 download

I just bought a new Sony HDR CX7 handycam. I am having a hard time getting the footage off my memory stick and onto iMovie. Please help.

1.- Create an image file (name.dmg).
2.- Copy all your contents from the Memory Stick to your new image file.
    3.- Close your image.
    4.- Open iMovie '08.
5.- Open the image file with the Memory Stick contents
6.- iMovie should detect automatically the video.
Hope it works, it works for me.
You can do it directly from the camera also. But I prefer the image file method.
    1.- Open iMovie '08.
2.- Connect the camera to the Mac.
    3.- Turn on the camera.
4.- Open the display. It should show a message asking to connect through USB.
    5.- Accept the connection.
6.- iMovie '08 should detect the movies stored in the camera an it would let you import them.
    Good luck...
