  • Sony should rebrand Xperia devices as Playstation devices to increase sales

T-Mobile just dropped the Xperia Z3, even though the Xperia Z3 has been getting rave reviews, according to the Wall Street Journal and other popular media sites. Problem is, Sony doesn't do any advertising, so it's fallen behind many lesser competitors even though in terms of specs and build quality it's arguably better than Samsung and Apple.
But Xperia has little name recognition. Meanwhile, PLAYSTATION has strong brand power in the U.S. So, Sony should just rebrand the Xperia Z3 and upcoming Z4, the Playstation Phone, at least in the U.S., if not the whole world. There are millions of Playstation fans in the US, and tens of millions in the world. These fans are bound to at least give a Playstation Phone a look.Sony wouldn't have to advertise because the Playstation name is already out there.
This could be a way that Sony could keep the Xperia brand, and its Mobile unit, alive in the U.S. and increase its presence beyond niche in the world.
What do people think? Would you like to own a Playstation Phone that has the same black metallic finish of the PS4 console?

Really dont think $5million is worth the few seconds to be honest....i realise it probably isnt much from Mr Sonys pockets but i would have rather seen it go into a more worthwhile piece of physical (magazine) advertisement. Sony got good advertising/results when they sponsored some of the Sky big name shows a while back.........just my feeble opinion

  • Sound Quality ipod nano

I have recently bought an ipod nano having had a Sony hard drive walkman for a few years. The sound quality and memory size of the Sony was amazing, but if the unit moves too much it freezes so I decided to change to ipod.
I am really happy with the ipod apart from the sound quality with some of my songs.
A couple of albums (such as Andrea Bocelli) crackle during certain songs when played on the ipod even with the equalizer off or flat. They do not do this when played throught the computer with the same headphones, and I have tried recording the albums in different formats and frequencies. The majority of my albums play without any distortion.
Is there some way to overcome this?

I have had such an experience while listening to "Il Divo". I think you might have to play a round with the equalizer. It probably affects operatic songs.

  • Sony Xperia Z1 Water Resistivity false advertising and poor service from service center

I have bought Sony Xperia Z1 from eBay on 31 October 2013. I have been using this phone for nearly a year. The phone was good in performance but comes to water resistivity it will resist water for a few months but after few months even though the card slot and all flops are closed, the water gets in.I have faced this on 7th September when i was about to take a photo in pool, the water gets in and the phone was dead. And i took it to the service center ( Repair and Return Technology (I) Pvt Ltd) Egmore, chennai, on 9th September 2014. On 15th September i got a call that i have to pay nearly 20000 to rectify the phone. Then i called the service center and also sent mail to [email protected] and said that i was not satisfied with the reply. Then few days i again got mail like below
We understand your concern towards the service of your Sony XPERIA Z1.
We had received your Sony XPERIA Z1 at our Authorized Service Centre – M/S Repair and Return Technology, Egmore, vide Work Order No.W114090906449 with the nature of complaint “Cannot Power On”.
Upon physical inspection of the product by our engineers, the phone was found to be damaged due to external cause of liquid regression. As we mentioned in our Warranty Terms and Conditions, this service is not covered under Warranty. The Main Board needs to be replaced for satisfactory working of the product. The estimate for this service is Rs 12,488/- and Service charge is Rs.350/-.

We solicit your kind understanding in this regard.
Thanking you and assuring you of our best services always.
    Warm Regards,
    Sony India Pvt. Ltd.
They just mention the flags turn red and so the water has got in. They were unable to explain how the water got in. I have seen several forums that many users facing this kind of issues even all the flaps are closed. I was completely stressed and depressed to hear this. I halfheartedly asked the service center to do the service on 1 October 2014. Today's date is 11 October 2014 but still now i haven't heard any update from SONY. When i asked SONY customer care or service center, they dont even know the status of the product, they saying that the phone has been given for service to next level, I have to wait for few days, But i have been waiting for 1 month. I was completely fed up with Sony Service as they are not even called me once regarding this. I have to call each and every time and not even get proper reply. Its very irritating.
If SONY is viewing this do necessary action or else you'll lose a premium customer and more customers in future.
Even though i got the phone how can i use this phone in water ? I completely lost trust in SONY and never buy any SONY product again. I'll go for Micromax next time.

I see many users here are suffering the same problem,
Beware of buying Xperia Water resistant products as it may not guarantee waterproof and they don't even give warranty if your phone got water.

I have had the same problem I have wrote to customer services and I keeping the same reply, that the phone has to be less than 1.5 meters, less than half an hour....... blah blah blah.
My phone failed in water and I had met all the conditions but they keep fobbing me off I have asked why they advertise the phone as waterproof when obviously its not.  The last reply I got was well it might not be waterproof.
Absolute rubbish the phone and the customer service.  and dont get me started on the smartwatch that failed in water as well it never worked I threw it in the bin.
Aviod sony products absolute junk I say.

  • Advertising for Sony VGN-NS240E/W

I wanted to see if anyone else has this issue. I saw the weekly advertisement having the Sony VGN-NS240E/W for $649.99 with an ATI Radeon HD 3430 graphics card. However, when I went into three different Best Buy stores the very same laptop with the same part number and SKU had only the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M per the label on the box it comes in. This was true for each and every Sony VGN-NS240E/W. However, on the Best Buy website there is a review saying that their laptop has the correct memory card.
Has anyone else experienced what I have found or are they getting the correct card?

    Hey therogueo1,
I took a quick look at the marketing specifications released for this model, and here’s what Sony listed on their product support website:
    • Processor: ATI Mobility RadeonT HD 3430 with Total Available Graphics Memory of 2040MB (max.)
    • Chipset: Intel® GM45 Express Chipset
I also spoke with Sony’s Consumer Support hotline just to verify this information, and it appears that both are integrated into the main system board. If you’d like to verify this yourself though, please feel free to send me a private message and I’d be glad to provide you with the reference number provided by Sony.
    Thanks!

  • Bluelabel Sony Vaio VPCSC1AFM/S missing advertised Radeon chip?

    Hey guys,
I purchased this blue label Sony vaio laptop the other day (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%238482%3B+i5+Processor+/+...). It says that the laptop uses AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics but when I went to confirm it within my graphics properties it says my computer is running Intel HD 3000 graphics. I also used the Intel® System Identification Utility (http://www.intel.com/support/siu.htm) just to be sure but it also stated that my laptop was running Intel HD 3000 graphics and not the AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics it is supposed to be. My laptop does have the "RADEON graphics" sticker on it.
Im new to this whole chip set thing so I may be misunderstanding how it works. Maybe I have both chips? Can someone please lead me in the right direction.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • In praise of the Sony CineAlta 4K SCL-PK6 Lenses...

Hi, all, I just had the opportunity to try the Sony CineAlta 4K SCL-PK6/F lenses on a demo from Sony Canada.  And, I can just say, Wow!  At this pricepoint, I am simply amazed at the quality of the images I can get with these lenses. I have used rental lenses from a couple of reputable rental houses with my F55 before.  They were the much higher priced, but older models from the highly reputed brand.  As well, I have had demo lenses from other respected lens makers. [Due to circumstances and conditions that caused these other demo lenses not to have their best chance, technically, for a fair showing, I will not name or make detailed comparisons.]  But, I have not been as pleased with the images from any previous lenses as I am with the Sony CineAlta 4K primes. I did not have the lenses long enough to work up a full technical review.  But, I did get to shoot some people under controlled lighting conditions and some weather shots. I will state my bias as far as the look of lenses.  I do have a preference for the Cooke Look.  So, the way the CineAlta lenses handle the light in colour, contrast and focus is very much along the line of my preferences.  I can see why some people have stated elsewhere that they suspect that the Sony lenses have Cooke glass.  I don't quite believe that is so.  The slight yellow shift of the Cooke Look is not as apparent in the Sonys.  Although there might still be some smaller shift in that direction.  There is not the blue shift in whites and green tints in skintone I see in other lenses. As for focus...it simply pops.  Once the flange focus on the F55 has been properly set, the focus hits on the witness marks, precisely, and every time, throughout the focal range. There was one disappointment that came from this demo, that these lenses do not have the lens information systems that were built into the first generation lenses that were sold with the F3 early on.  Clearly, the priority in this generation was to put the money into optics, mechanics and built quality. So, for me, since I don't, yet, own any appropriate glass, this will be the set that will allow me to shoot my self-funded projects and achieve the look I am aiming to develop. Thus, I clearly believe these lenses are underrated. I would love to hear from others, here, who have actually used these lenses. Maybe we should start the CLAS, the CineAlta Lens Admiration Society. Best regards,
    Will

I am a big fan of these lenses, im using them like crazy in advertising and other work. I find them Sharp and sutable for vfx work.. here is a recent spot i shot with the primes.. http://youtu.be/pTIMnbHqf5I here is the btshttp://youtu.be/BL4d_lb0zx8

  • Adobe and Sony Photoshop Elements Serial Number Ping Pong !

    Hi
I wanted you all to know what is going on.
See below my first 'ANGRY' support message I sent and their replies - actually this offer tipped me to buy this laptop instead of another one and I did contact SONY several times and they pretended not to understand and in their website is stated and listed as 'included programs'.
It is a trick to make customers buy their product? Sometime ago offers were 'real' offers.
IS THIS EVEN LEGAL ? A purchase is a contacrt the buyer/the sellers and its suppliers (Adobe!)
Next time, it will be a Toshiba (again!) - it has lasted me 5 years or had labour and it still is going - it stillis working and on Linux this time!

    Hello
I have just purchased a SONY VAIO with these programs bundled/installed/no doscs/no licence!
    I wish to:
    1. register them and I cannot since your program only show 5 groups of digits instead of the 6 needed!
    2. I wish to install Linux on this computer, but I cannot install PSE7 and Adobe Premiere E 7 without a licence!
Which should have been part of my purchase.
I feel I have been robbed.
As soon as you run it, your programs connects and show us the 'called option' to purchase upgrade to version 8 - are you trying to make us pay twice for the same programs?
What is the solution here? I spent hunfdreds of  £££ during the years 'macromedia too to get treated like this?

  • Compatibility of Sony HC1 to Capture in FCE 3.0.1

I’m attempting to Capture HD video from a Sony HC1 camcorder to my iMac G5, EyeSight, Pre-Intel, 2.1 Ghz, 250G Built-In Hard Drive via Firewire. (No external FW hard drives are involved.)
I’m using FCE 3.0.1 which Apple considers compatible with the Sony HC1.
I have no problem capturing video from this camera if I select Sequence Preset DV NTSC 48Khz, but that captures 720x480 resolution.
If I select Apple Codec 1080i60 via Easy Setup, and go to File-Capture, select Capture Now, the preview window appears, but is black, no video.
The HCI camcorder LCD display is showing video but my Preview window is black like the video has been cut off. Anyone with any ideas why this is happening?
I wish there were a site that gives a step by step “setup” for capturing HD video from the Sony HC1 HD camcorder using FCE 3.0.1, or other major camcorders.
I called Apple and was told my version of FCE, purchased in Feb’06 is no longer “supported” because the newer version (FCE 3.5) is now being sold. They suggested that I go to the Apple support website for possible help, which I did do. The Apple rep listened politely to my problem but was unable to give me even a small clue, suggestions to try. He did offer to upgrade me to FCE 3.5 but then admitted that the Sony HC1 is not compatible with the FCE 3.5 version.
I found this post from CHRIS on April 15, 2005:
“A good question to ask at this point is does the Sony HC1 work properly with Final Cut Express HD in HDV mode?
Also is it true that Final Cut Express HD does not edit HDV in it's native format and FCP HD does?----CHRIS”
Has anyone determined an answer to this question that was posed over a year ago? I hope I don’t have to purchase FC Pro Studio to do HD!! If so, Apple needs to rename this software product minus “HD”.

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   2.1 GHz with i Sight & 20" Display

    Hi(bonjour) BoBo!
I do not know this Sony model but for my FX1 the letters "HDV" or "DV" appears in LCD screen upon shooting.
I'm pretty sure that your output is HDV, so you have to set FCE HD to Apple intermediate codec 1080i50 or 60 (depending of your localized model of camcorder-European or US) to capture HDV material (wich will be handled by Apple Intermediate Codec, no in native format). On the FX1, there is a "blue" diode on side of camera and near the firewire socket to show the current mode of export and an indication on LCD.
You can also set the camcorder to downconvert your HDV shooted material to standard definition (SD) on exporting. With this setting you have to select DV-NTSC or DV-PAL (depending of your localized camcoder) in FCE HD to import the downconverted footage in SD DV format.
See the VCR output menu to select the desired output format.
Finally you can shoot your movie in SD instead of HDV (see camcorder's manual, camcorder's menu: format and screen) in 4:3 or 16:9 format. With this setting you have to select DV-NTSC or DV-PAL (depending of your localized camcoder) in FCE HD to import the footage in SD DV format.
Seeing HDV (in Apple intermediate codec format) in Final Cut Express HD is AMAZING on a HD cinema display: 1920X1080 pixels of pure color and details.
Remember: all "easy setup" changes will take effect for new sequence only.
    Good Luck!

  • The cliche HDV problem on FCP 5.1.4 with sony HC7

having the pain in the butt problem i have been seeing everyone run into lately. MacBook Pro runnin FCP 5.1.4 & the Sony HDR-HC7 & i cannot get a Sequence, Capture & Device Control preset that wil consistantly work. The HDV-1080i50 Easy Setup Preset and a few little adjustmentsto the Preset worked for me till i upgraded from 5.1.2 After just getting the camera & the MacBook and having it worka amazingly & now i can't get nothing sure is depressing, i have tried man different ideas i have read over a handful of forums; but still no solution. Thanks.

I am currently running the same exact setup. The key was to make sure the camera was in play/edit, "iLink" showing HDV or DV appropriately, Firewire drive connected (scratch disk), and then starting the computer and finally booting FCP. I couldn't get it to consistently recognize the camera (device control) without this process. It works for me every time.
    Thanks!

  • Importing to FCPX from Sony Camera

I am trying to import 1080/60P clips from a current Sony camera into FCPX.
I am well aware of the tradeoff of size vs editing ease between AVCHD and ProRes. In this case I have hundreds of clips, most of which will be trimmed drastically if they are used at all. So I am hoping to do a rough cut in native format, then transcode that rough cut for final editing and cleanup. Should be a big saving in disk space. I have a new quad core Mac that should be able to play the native clips quite well.
I already have an archive of the camera files on a Firewire 800 drive. I was hoping that FCPX would be able to import it by reference, creating little wrapper .mov files. However when I try to do that, I get a message that the folder containing the video cannot be imported. (It does offer to import the folder of stills that is part of the same file structure).
If instead I choose Import from Camera, FCPX happily ingests the video files but from the size of the .mov files it creates it is clear that they are not references but copies of the camera originals. That makes complete sense for initial import of an actual SD card or USB-mounted hard drive, but I really don't want another 50 GB of files filling up my drive.
If necessary I will use that process then delete the 50 GB of originals (I do have another copy on a second drive). But I am hoping that there may be a way to create reference wrappers around the files I already have on my drive so that I can work with them where they are.
I am interested to know why FCPX behaves as it does, if anyone knows. For example, are audio and video multiplexed differently in the camera archive than in the .mov files that FCPX creates?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Camera is HDR-PJ760, which has proved to be absolutely amazing for handheld shots in difficult conditions. Many of the shots in this project were taken from a boat on the ocean, where a tripod would not have helped. All using the highest available quality settings at 60P. You can't get back quality thrown away in the camera. (Yes I know that the high compression in AVCHD is in fact throwing away a lot, but there is always some tradeoff to get a reasonably compact handheld camera.)
I am guessing that the camera files are muxed, and that is why they cannot be used directly. If that's the case, I will just have to put up with the conversion step.

  • Macbook to Sony Bravia 40 inch HDTV

I am connecting my Macbook to my Sony Bravia HDTV via a Mini Dvi port/VGA adapter to a SVGA cable. However, nothing happens. It appears as though my TV doesn't recognize anything....Can anybody help?

The "problem" was in the MacBook.
I turned off power to the MB. When starting it up again, I held "Command" "Control" and shift keys.
I went into the System Prefs for Displays. The "Sony TV" window popped right up!
I went to the Bravia, checked out my inputs, and found my MB desktop on the Bravia (after giving each input a few seconds). Amazing!
I learned that there is a power issue at times from the MB video out jack. It isn't a big deal; only the way that power is sometimes apportioned. The restart with the Command, Control, shift ensures a cleaner output. That's according to an Apple expert anyhow.
Now I only need to connect the audio. But video is good to go! Very happy!

  • Macbook Pro to Sony Bravia NOT WORKING...PLEASE HELP

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my *macbook pro* to my *Sony Bravia TV*.
So far I have the macbook pro - mini display to VGA converter - VGA cable - PC VGA socket in the back of the TV.
When selected on PC mode, the mac display turns blue for about 3 seconds then returns to its original state whilst the TV has a black screen with 'NO SYNC' in the top left hand corner.
The VGA cable is brand new and the mini display converter works as i used it on an old TFT monitor which died...hence why i am trying to connect it to my TV : )
    Any tips/solutions would be amazing!
    Thanks
    Jon

Had the same problem with my 40" Sony Bravia LCD. I tried for ages to connect MiniDisplay to VGA. The TV would never recognise an input signal and the MacBook wouldn't acknowledge any change and I eventually gave up.
Recently, I checked the Bravia manual and the highest possible resolution for my model was 1360x768. So I set the MacBook display to one of the nearest: 1280x800. I connected the cord and then closed the MacBook lid for a few seconds and reopened it. The signal kicked in! The mac then gave me the option to reset the VGA to optimal display - I used the table at the back of the Bravia manual to reset it to the highest display compatible with the available mac options (1280x768, 60Hz). Now it works perfectly, but still only when first set to 1280x800, nothing less or more!

  • MacBook to Sony Bravia - TV seems to ignore MacBook

I have a new MacBook and I'd like to get it set up with my Sony Bravia HDTV. I have the proper cabling to connect the MB video port to the HDMI port on the HDTV. But I don't get anything good when I have the tv and MB on.
I know that there are some other threads about this but none of the ones that I saw are recent and none of them fix my problem.
All that I get on the HDTV is a blank screen. I can still check all of the possible inputs to the tv but it seems like it doesn't realize that the MB is connected.
I've also been able to see the displays on the prefs on the MB, to the point where I check the "mirror" checkbox (or not). Nothing there helps.
Thanks to anybody who can help.
