Sony's Cineframe vs progressive

a) Given footage in 1080i and *cineframe on * ( and I think this is relevant for FX1, FX7, A1 ++) - what would the correct settings be for a native project in ppro? Progressive or interlaced ?
b) assuming same footage - what would the correct settings be in Cineform's HD link when importing. Progressive og interlaced?
My question is basically what impact this Cineframe option has. Ppro , as i've experienced it always "misinterpret" this sort of footage as interlaced - giving harsh "frame doubling" when shooting high motion sceenes.

Thank you Dan. Under normal circumstances this distinction between (i) and (p) is just of minor interest to me. And I do not mix interlaced with progressive footage.
But when it comes to footage with high motion sceenes( even made worse by wide_angle_shooting (0.5))this is *very* interesting to me. Normally i shoot with *cineframe off*, but for some odd reason I have 4 hours valuable footage with *cineframe on* - and reshooting is not an option.
I've tested a number of approaches but it seems impossible to export from ppro without having these ugly - not combing - but sligthly offset frames apparent at the picture borders - if you understand what I mean.
May I mention a remarkable observation though: If i export my footage as CFHD (lossless) and in succession put this file in procoder3, specify a AVI target , using CanopusDV (DVCPro25) encoder - this clearly improves the final result. How come?
Now - I'm on thin ice here, but I guess that I'd prefer * shutter times at 1/1000- 1/2000 and cineframe on* in order to achieve sharp, progressive looking film.
Some motion blur is accepted by me but this "frame offset tendency" is not.
Maybe this is all a consequence of Sony's rolling shutter ??
Anyway Dan, you have my private email adress (your's is at work and i'm sitting back home disabled with a newly operated shoulder!),--- I would appreciate some alternate suggestions/ considerations

  • Sony V1-u 24p/HDV/1080p  + FCP

I have a Sony V1-U camera. It doesn't work well with Adobe Premiere. I think that's because premiere doesn't have a proper setting for HDV/24p footage.
I'm thinking of selling this computer, with adobe premiere, and buying a mac with FCP instead. I just need to know if FCP would handle my raw footage better than Premiere pro 2 does.
How does one properly capture HDV 1080p footage on Final Cut studio 2? Which sequence settings would I use? Does the HDV footage automatically get down-converted to Standard def. when I capture it? Does the HDV footage stay preserved during the encoding process? What happens to HDV footage if you try to burn it on a standard def. dvd? And finally, Could I possibly sound more like a noob?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I don't use Adobe Premiere but I would believe it has a proper setting for the Flavor of HDV you are producing from the V1. All Sony HDV products record to mini DV/HDV tape as 60i in the United States (V1-U = USA).
*How does one properly capture HDV 1080p footage on Final Cut studio 2?*
Sony HDV is NOT progressively recorded to tape. During the progressive recording it is like interlaced, but the sensors for each field are recorded at the same exact time so in effect it is progressive during the image making process, but Sony then separates the two fields and lays to tape interlaced so all other HDV products they sell work properly together as 60i. Don't worry the progressive look is retained but a 3:2 pull down is added making 29:97 or 60i material.
*Does the HDV footage automatically get down-converted to Standard def when I capture it?*
No, you can down convert out of the V1U by menu settings or you will have to do it during an export in your EDL.
*Does the HDV footage stay preserved during the encoding process?*
In Final Cut the originally captured HDV material is not changed and will remain in the Capture Scratch folder while the exported sequence is rendered into a new HDV Quicktime file if this is what you're exporting to.
*What happens to HDV footage if you try to burn it on a standard def. dvd?*
Well you will either export the HDV sequence as SD using Apples Compressor or you will drop a copy of the HDV sequence into a new SD sequence for exporting.
*Could I possibly sound more like a noob?*
No comment, I'm sure others here can appreciate your energy.

  • Sony SmartWatch 2 boot loop

    Hello,
my Sony SmartWatch 2 is caught in a boot-loop, when turned on, it shows first the Sony logo, then a progress-bar, as if new firmware was installing, and after it finishes, the watch restarts, and again: logo, progress-bar, restart...
I think that flashing a new firmware would solve this issue, but I cannot find the way to do it. This method was officialy supported by Sony, as this post testifies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch-2/help/reset-smartwatch-2-t3006929/post58321343#post58321...
but unfortunately, it no longer works.

  • Any high definition video noise reduction programs/plugins out there?

i have a Sony HDR HC1, and im just using iMovie to import the HD video then send it to FCE3.5.....and i dont plan to buy a new camera until i make my second low-budget feature (editing my first right now).....and i have some low-light shots that shows bluish-colored noise (the camera has a CMOS chip) and i need to know how to get rid of the noise (and for a less noisy picture overall, even though very little in normal light conditions).

Er, 'Cineframe' (pseudo 24p) and 'CineGamma' (film-like brightness range) are available on the bigger FX1 and Z1, but not on the smaller HC1, sorry. But the HC1 has a similar (or maybe identical) 'Cinema Effect', which does simulate 24fps film.
However, you can't choose this (under 'D. EFFECT' in the 'PICT. APPLI.' menu) if you've already chosen a film-like manual shutter speed ..e.g; 1/25.
You can't keep the 'film-like' manual 25 shutter speed, either, if you choose, in the 'PROGRAM AE' menu, 'PORTRAIT' (..which generally tries to give the widest available aperture, to give shallow depth-of-field like a 35mm film camera lens).
So for a "film-like" appearance with the HC1 I'd choose:
    Manual shutter speed - 25
Sharpness - up a bit from normal
    Steadyshot - ON
Manual exposure - ON (..that's the little round button next to the 'Exposure/Vol' switch on the left-hand side, below the Backlight button..)
This HD Sony camcorder is probably way beyond the price range you're interested in, but the V1U does offer most of what you want..!
The Panasonic HVX200 is extremely versatile ..but the cost of memory cards is probably prohibitive ..unless you shoot only 8 minutes at a time!
(..Here's a useful comparison between the earlier Sonys, JVC and the Panasonic, but it doesn't mention the new V1U..)
(..The Canon XL2 offers 24p and interchangeable lenses, but no HDV..)
Essentially, the JVC HD100/110 shoots only HDV (or DV) 720p (24, 25, 30fps), Progressive (full frame) format, and doesn't shoot "video-like" 1080i (interlaced) at all. So it's specifically intended for tape-to-film transfer, which may be what you want.
Here's a .pdf of the instruction book.
Notice that the JVC is a manual focus camera ..there is no autofocus at all. It comes with a 16x zoom, but no figures given for its low-light limit, such as 4 lux or 6 lux.
The original HDV 1-chip JVC GR-HD1 is to be avoided, as its low-light performance - and performance overall - is pretty poor.
The new Sony V1, having a fixed, built-in, non-interchangeable lens does have autofocus - though that can be switched off. It shoots HDV 24p and 30p, but also 'normal' non-progressive video. Here's Adam Wilt's assessment of it. It has a 20x zoom, and shoots down to about 4 lux.
Sony's earlier - and cheaper - Z1 has a 12x (autofocus) zoom, 60i and 50i video shooting, and 'synthesized' 30p, 25p and 24p modes, which Sony calls 30F, 25F and 24F ..as these are progressive frames constructed from various interleaved fields and frames. So 24F isn't exactly the same as 24p. Minimum light: 3 lux.
[..The 'super-HAD' CCDs in the FX1/Z1 don't appear to give any vertical smear of bright highlights ..though that's often quoted as a particular selling point of CMOS chips, compared with CCDs..]
I use the UK-only 50i version (the FX1) of the Z1, and can say that it's excellent in incredibly low light. These HDV Sonys (..except the 7 lux HC1..) all feature optional "CineGamma", which alters the recorded brightness range to look more like film than video, and "CineFrame" which is this artificial progressive mode - called 'Cinema Effect' on the HC1.
Here's some more info about Sony's 'CineFrame' pseudo 24p.
    In summary:
The JVC is the nearest HDV you'll get to true 24p, but it's less easy to handle (no autofocus, 16x zoom) than a Sony, and doesn't offer interlaced video recording like a normal camcorder ..so it'd probably be inappropriate for shooting for TV.
    The V1 is a multi-talented video/24p camera, with a big 20x zoom, low-light, but doesn't take interchangeable lenses.
The Panasonic HVX200 seems to offer the best of many worlds, but has only a 13x built-in zoom, and although it shoots extremely hi-quality material onto memory cards, they're expensive and have only a small capacity.
Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice..

  • Is 1080 at 24 the same as 1080p24?

    Hi,
I'm a little confused. I'm trying to output a 720p24 HDV project for viewing on an HDCAM deck that only handles 1080i, but WILL do 24fps. I need to use Compressor to recompress it, and I'm only finding 24 fps settings when talking about 1080p, not 1080i. Is this the same?
    Thanks

Kona 3 is the only card that will cross-convert from 720p24 to 1080p24 (or PsF24)
PsF=Progressive Segmented Frame. This is Sony's implementation of progressive frames. It is the method in which a progressive frame is recorded to tape.
With a decklink card you would need to paste your sequence into a 1080p24 timeline and render it, then output at 1080p24 to HDCAM.
Frame rates: When most people talk about 24p what they really mean is 23.976 which is abbreviated to 23.98. 23.98 is compatible with NTSC in that when you add 3:2 pulldown you get 29.97. It is intended for footage that will stay in a digital realm. (Experts, I know I'm oversimplifying) True 24p is just that, video that runs at 24 fps. The Sony Cine Alta line of products support this frame rate. It is generally intended for porjects that will end up on film. However 23.98 can easily be transferred to film as well. Confused yet? It's a beast to wrap your head around. Just know that unless you shot with high end camera (I'm talking about an F23, a Viper, etc) your 24fps footage is really running at 23.98fps.
So the ultimate question becomes are you on the West Side or are you closer to the Valley and is it worth it to spend the money to do this right? If it is worth it to do this right then I would suggest going to West Post Digital in Santa Monica or Alpha Dogs in Burbank to do your layoff.
Take a self contained QT that matches your sequence settings to either of these places and they will know what to do.

  • Solution when iMovie or FCE will not import AVCHD files or MTS files

Problem: iMovie or FCE will not import your footage from SDHC camera with files in AVCHD structure, or cannot import .mts or .m2ht files (which you may have copied from AVCHD structure. When mounting camera, you can see the camera as disk but iMovie will not try to import footage. If you point Final Cut Express (FCE) to the file structure, it fails to recognize it as a valid file structure. (I have Canon HF10, but understand that this problem is common on many camera models, maybe camera has been turned off at the wrong moment?)
Cause: Faulty file structure on camera or disk
Soultion: Rebuild AVCHD file structure using an AVCHD editing tool. I found multiAVCHD (multiavchd.deanbg.com), which is not perfect, but will do the job. And it is freeware (possible to donate).
I would like comments about others experience - but at least this worked for me:
    - Download and install the software (Yes, you need Windows)
    - Set the right parameters: mostly default, I didn´t want any recoding. But tick off to keep the source files!
    - Select the AVCHD source (or source .mts or m2ts files) and destination
    - Start rebuilding: select output for Sony Playstation 3
    - Put the AVCHD file structure on a USB stick
    *If using iMovie:*
Start iMovie and plug the USB into the mac (virtual disk (.dmg file) or other media should work fine as well). The USB may contain other files as well, but the root of AVCHD must be named AVCHD.
iMovie recognizes the drive as a camera. All is not 100% well, as the dates for making the footage is lost, and the thumbnails are distorted if seen at all, until clicked on. But then import worked for most clips. Some clips gave an error message, but FCE was able to import these (Log&transfer).
*If using FCE:* Use Log and transfer on this file structure (need not be on external disk)
If you have a better solution - please share! I suppose there are other tools out there which may correct the file structure with less side effects and no errors.
If you go for this solution - remember the author of multiAVCHD, he will surely appreciate a donation. I guess everybody will agree that this is worth at least as much as you paid for your SDHC card.
Why a function to correct faulty file structure is not included in iMovie and FCE is beyond my understanding!
I notice many users salvage their footage by converting the .MTS files, using Handbrake etc. But I believe rebuilding the file structure is faster and with no quality reduction.

    Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone is still subscribed to this and can help.
I have a Sony HDR-SR10. Yesterday I was able to connect it to my iMac by USB and view all the footage in the import window of iMovie (08).
Last night, to save time sorting at home, I took it to work with me and using the software that came with the camera installed on a Windows PC went through to see which files were rubbish and could be deleted before importing to speed up the transfer on to my mac.
Today, my Mac won't recognise the Camera!?!?!?!
Have I inadvertently reformatted the .MTS files or the camera itself, to windows or something? CanI change it back??
I'm currently creating a new disk image of the camera on my Mac in the vain hope that it will work and be recognised by the Mac as a camera. I can see from the progress box the following text:
    Creating Image "Sony Camcorder Media.dmg"
    =====Progress Bar=====
    Reading (WindowsFAT32 :1)...
Which is why I think I've done something seriously wrong!! .. because it mentions windows!
    HELP! HELP! HELP!
I have my entire honeymoon and the first year of my son on this camera and I want to edit with iMovie! Especially as I just paid for iLife 09 upgrade!

  • 'jagged edges' due to interlacing after editing with 2 cams. How to remove?

I just finished a project in FCE, combining footage from a Sony HVR-Z7 and a Canon HV30. As the shooting itself took place some time ago, I'm not sure if the Canon was in 'plain HD' (which means interlaced, I presume) or in '25 pf', (which means Progressive), but I'm afraid it was in 'interlaced' mode. The Sony was certainly in Progressive mode. After lengthy editing, the finished movie looks perfect on a computer monitor, but on my plasma tv I get jagged edges in the Canon HV30-images. Not all of the time, though. Can this be corrected in the edited sequence in any way? I don't want to start all over again...

Does it look like this on the sloping back of the car?
I have only discovered 2 ways of getting rid of it.
    1. Down-convert your HDV to DV in the camera as you are capturing and edit in a DV sequence or
    2. Edit as AIC and then drag your edited AIC sequence into a new DV sequence. Do not alter anything but render it (which takes a long time) and then File>Export>QT Movie.
P.S. My videos are not blurred. If I remove the blur in the picture, the jagged edges disappear!

  • 720 progressive output from Sorenson Squeeze and Sony Z1 HDV

    Hi
I have a one off project where I need to film some shots in portrait 16:9 for output on (lots of) 720p digital screens on their sides. I plan on filming this with a Sony Z1 camera in 1080i HD mode on its side and then down-sizing in FCP and converting to progressive WMV files with Sorenson Squeeze.
I know the Z1 doesn't really do progressive filming. Would it be wise to hire a camera that does support it natively for best results? Or would Sorenson Squeeze do a good job of de-interlacing to 720p for HD LCD panels? Plus, does anyone know of a bracket-type attachment to mount cameras at 90 degrees on a tripod?
Any suggestions or tips for best results would be much appreciated, and thanks in advance for any help!

    Tom,
I don't think that your issue is with the Z1. I think that it is with HDV footage in general (nasty format and all) but you don't want to hear that so let's work on getting you going.
    1) You do need some sort of external monitor. YOu have several options, Cheapest is to buy a Matrox MXO and an Apple or Dell 24" monitor. Other options include cards from AJA or Blackmagic. If you are doing everything in HDV I would recommend something from AJA or BM that way you can capture to a more easily editable format like DVCProHD. Do a search for Kona, Blackmagic or capture cards aadn you will find a wealth of info.
    2) for this footage you need to look at the original tapes on an HD tv and see if you are seeing the same thing. This will determine if it is a compressor issue.
    3) How low did you set your bit rate? Max should be below 7 or some DVD players will have issues.
    4) in DVDSP you should be able to bring in your QT ref file and it will encode it for you. If it won't import it makes me wonder if it is being exported properly. Are you going out of FCP by FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME>with current settings, and check Make Movie Self-contained?
One more thing, in this process you are not working with film, others here may be more harsh about this but you are using video so let's call it what it is.

  • Cineframe on Sony z1 (PAL)

Can anyone out there explain to me or point me in the right direction to learn more about the Cineframe workflow in FCP HD using my Sony Z1. (PAL)
I'd like to shoot in using the Cineframe mode after reading that it gives you a more film look and after looking at this clip
    http://www.studiodaily.com/main/searchlist/6916.html
Can you shoot in HD or SD? How do you go about capturing and editing the footage, what is the workflow?
    Cheers!

Avoid Cineframe. It tosses out HALF of your vertical resolution in order to get this "film look." It takes one of the FIELDS of information (interlaced video is two fields that constitute one frame) and tosses it, then stretches the other to fill in the gaps. HORRID.
    Don't use it.

  • Right way to handle progressive 1080 footage in FCP

Just want to make sure how the workflow goes and how the things get done the right way from the beginning.
What I'm trying to uderstand here is how I should set up and what things to consider with 1080p25 material that I wish to keep progressive through the whole process. My hardware is:
Quad 2.5 G5 with 4.5 GB of RAM
    Aja Kona 3 capture card
    SONY HDW-S2000P HDCAM recorder
    FCP 5.1.2
    Mac OS 10.4.8
Footage was shot on HDCAM 1080p25. Should I capture that using Apple uncompressed 4:2:2 codec (1080i50). How is the progressive nature of footage retained as there seems to be no 1080p25 ability in FCP? When I edit back to tape should I use 1080i50 or 1080psf25 on my Sony HDW-2000?
If someone can clarify this step by step, I would be a happy camper...
    QT 7.1.3
Final Touch HD 2.6.1 with Tangent panels

Use the stock presets all the way here... i.e. if it's 25fps, use the Kona's 50i... you won't lose the progressive scan at all, and 50i will not interlace the progressive scan footage.

  • Sony NEX-5N AVCHD 2.0 1080p50 and Premiere Pro/After Effects CS5.5

    Hi all,
I have a new Sony NEX-5N and have shot some test 1080p50 video using it.
On my quest for some new editing/production software to close the loop I have just downloaded and installed a Trial Version of CS5.5 Production Premium.
I am able to load my video files into Premiere Pro.
However, when I attempt to open the Video File in After Effects, I recieve the following Error message:
After Effects error: '00023.MTS' cannot be imported - this '.mts' file is damaged or unsupported.
I have tried renaming the extension to .MPG, .M4V, .M2TS all with exactly the same result.
Perhaps this is a limitation of the Trial Version or perhaps a limitation of After Effects CS5.5.  Is anyone able to advise?
As extra information I include below the TEXT output from MediaInfo for the file I am able to load into Premiere Pro CS5.5 but not After Effects.
    Thanks.

I just recorded 4 seconds of a clock pendulum swinging, surprisingly the file was 20Mb!?!?  Anyway, I have made the file available for download at the following location:
    http://andrew.net.au/~rowan/avchd/00032.MTS
You can browse the directory at http://andrew.net.au/~rowan/avchd/ if you need to "right-click" and save as.
I am hoping it is a limitation of the trial as I have noticed a few other "gotchas" with the trial version.
Thanks for the advice about video format, I have noticed that my computer (Core 2 Duo) is very slow to process the H.264 stream, PremierePro cannot play the 30sec stream in realtime (starts to stutter around 23sec) and After Effects starts its stutter almost immediately (both just playing the stream with no effects) - that said WindowsMediaPlayer has no problem playing the same stream at full speed.  I am however reluctant to do any transcoding except to a lossless format as it seems counter intuitive - but this will be the subject of another post, as I don't want to clutter this one.
    Thanks again.

  • I run Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V. How do I import from the camera directly to Final Cut, without having to go through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

    I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V.
How do I import from camera to Final Cut without going through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • How can I determine if certain footage is interlaced or progressive?

    Hi everyone,
I shoot and edit my own ski/snowboard films every year. I use a Sony HDV V1U. When filming, I constantly switch between 30p and 60i depending on the shots. I do this because 60i can provide smoother slow motion in post. Problem is, when I am editing the footage, it is extremely difficult to tell what's progressive and what's interlaced. My computer monitor, like all, is progressive, so interlaced footage looks just like 30p. One way I can tell is by adjusting the clips speed to slow motion, then judging by how Premiere handles the frame blending, I know what it is. But that is not practical for a massive project. A simple solution would be preveiwing on an external monitor, but from what I have read you cannot stream HDV back to a camera from the timeline, and I do not have money for a special capture card.
So my question is, is there any way to playback HDV on an external monitor (my TV or camera LCD) without a special capture card, or is there another easy way to determine 60i from 30p on Premiere's timeline? Thanks.
    Here's my specs:
    Premiere Pro CS3
    Sony HDV V1U camcorder
    Windows vista 64bit
Intel quad CPU Q9550 2.83 GHz
    8 GB ram
    Nvidia GTX 260 graphics card

The problem is the files are not all seperate. In one single file of 45 mins of HDV footage, there is a mixture of 60i and 30p, but the computer will always think it is 60i. I have been filming this way for years, and mixing the 2 record modes is definately the way to go.  In my past projects, I was working with DV so it was not a problem.

  • PS CS6 has no sound with AVCHD videos from Sony Cybershot

    System Specs:
    PS CS6, fully updated
    win7/64 fully patched
    16gb ram, 11+ GB free
    ssd scratch drive, 40gb free
    camera:  Sony cybershot dsc-hx30v
    files: *.MTS
CPU: intel quad core sandy bridge 2600k, 3.4Ghz
    GPU: AMD 6950 2gb
The videos play fine in VLC 2.0.1, windows media player, GSpot 2.70a (in thumbnail window). An ancient Nero showtime even sort of plays the video (choppy and partially mangled), but the audio is fine. VLC and WMP play smoothly at full screen, 2560x1600.
In PS, there is no audio. Both microphone icons have sound waves emanating and I have tried all 4 combinations of mute and play.
I can edit and save them to h.264, high quality, 1920x1080, 59.94 fps, progressive *.mp4 file. The video plays on the other players, but again there is no sound.
GSpot shows LAV splitter -> ffdshow addio decoder -> ac3filter -> default directSound device (see details below)
When playing in PS, the video is choppy. It will play for ~1/2 second and then stutter.
Searching for a suitable group with key words (photoshop cs6 avchd video no sound)
yields 505 groups. Looks like any group to have ever had cs6 in a thread. Hmmm.
It can't be a codec problem if every other video product I have plays the files. It is certainly not a hardware limitation. It looks like a PS bug.

    Meredith,
It is perfectly legal to decode Dolby to simple stereo with the licensed codec included with Windows 7. There may be some restriction on writing AC-3 content in 5.1 format. If Adobe wanted to, it could read from the licensed, installed codec and write the edited files in any of the audio formats it does support.
    I do not believe it is a can't; it's a won't.
"... only a few digital cameras on the market with that encoder."
There are dozens of digital cameras and camcorders from Canon, Hitachi, JVC, Leica, Panasonic and Sony which use AVCHD and many more are on the way.
Almost every medium and top-tier video editor also supports AVCHD/MTS format including Avid, Premier, Final Cut, AVS, Blender, VideoStudio, PowerDirector, Windoz Movie Maker, Nero, Pinnacle, Vegas and Openshot.

Bring Photoshop editing power to your video footage. Easily enhance any clip using the full range of familiar Photoshop tools, and then create movies using an intuitive set of video tools.
Adobe needs to add a bit of fine print here:
    Easily enhance any clip [1]
[1] Disclaimer:  Adobe has made a strategic decision to withhold Photoshop support for Dolby sound common on many newer and higher fidelity cameras in order to not cannibalize sales of Premier Pro.  If you have or plan to buy a video device from Canon, Hitachi, JVC, Leica, Panasonic or Sony, you may not be able to edit or even view movies with audio unless you also install Premier Pro ($799) or use a third party tool to perform audio brain surgery on your movie to rip your audio and hack it back into Photoshop in a non-Dolby form.
I feel that I was mislead by Adobe. And Adobe is still advertising this "Any Clip" claim even though the Dolby "defect" was reported in March in Beta testing. Please don't advertise what you don't support.
    Disappointed,

  • Best way to work with interlaced and progressive clips in the same timeline

I´m shooting with Sony MC-50E camera in 1920x1080, 50i. When importing with Log & Transfer I can work with ProRes 422 files in interlaced mode. I have to mix the footage with video screencapture which is progressive (ProRes 422). The final videos are for web only so it should end up as progressive H264 videos. I´m getting good result if exporting to H264, 1024x576 with deinterlacing enabled, but exporting to full HD gives typical interlaced lines in the picture. How can I avoid this and what is the best solution for working with both interlaced and progressive clips?

Deinterlace in Compressor using Frame Controls, Best settings. You can reconnect the deinterlaced files to your project, if you've already edited, but you may need to copy and paste the clips in your sequence to a new 25p timeline, then Remove Attributes, Basic Motion.
When you're ready to export your sequence, use Quicktime Movie, Current Settings, Self-contained. Take that file to Compressor to transcode back to h.264.
The Apple T.V. preset is very good.
