Sort albums by date

I've migrated my iPhoto albums over to the new Photos 1.0. Everything is fine except for the album sort order in the sidebar. I currently have View > "Keep Sorted By Date" checked. However, the albums are not shorted by date in the sidebar. It isn't quite clear what they are sorted by ... certainly not "Title." If I click on a particular album, then next to the title it shows the correct date. So, the Albums are labeled with their correct dates, but in the sidebar the albums are not correctly sorted by these dates.
I've tried re-setting the dates using Image > "Adjust Date & Time" but this didn't fix anything.
Any ideas?

Keep sorted by Title and Manually are the only options.
You could change the titles to reflect the date, for example "2015-04-Birthday album" or similar-.

  • Is there anyway to sort albums by date created???

Seems hard to believe that on earlier iphotos - I know on latest version this can be undone - if you accidentally sorted albums (friend did it) then you are stuck with alphabetical order even though your albums before that had a chronological order representing many years of picture taking.. now this order would take days to re-establish. Any tricks..? thanks

Yes of course but sadly this was long time ago and backup no longer relevant - should have done it at the time. But now I guess nothing can be done. Don't understand why their isn't a sub menu under sort for by date, ascending descendin etc like there usually is..?

  • Sort 'albums' to date order

I recently upgraded to OS Yosemite X and my photos transferred from iPhotos to Photos. Frankly, Photos is a mess and not user friendly.
My problem is that my hundreds of 'iPhoto events' appeared in an 'iPhoto Events' folder within 'Photos albums'. I selected them all and then converted them all into separate 'albums'. Unfortunately, they are now all mixed up out of date order and there doesn't appear to be any way you can put them in correct date order. I then did an 'undo' to put they all back into the 'iPhoto events' folder and they are in the same mixed up state.
Please can anyone advise me how to get them back into date order?

I agree. Have experienced exactly the same. I have spent hours manually sorting Albums into order - why is there no option to sort by date? Asked in Apple Store and they could not answer. Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.
Also found that when photos are in Albums there is no way of editing - can only be done in Photos.
    Can't merge Albums either.
Can't save emailed photos to Photo either - there's an option to do that but it does't appear to work - I don't know where it's sent.
It's a not at all user friendly. Photos are sorted how Apple think you want to see them i.e. en masse and in date order on Photos - I DON'T WANT THAT.
It wasn't made clear on the update to Yosemite that such a drastic change would happen - I wish I hadn't updated.

  • How to sort albums by date when in the store?

When in iTunes store looking at albums how do you sort them by release date?

  • Sorting albums in photo

I do not see the option of sorting albums by date in the new photo

I do not see the option of sorting albums by date in the new photo
There isn't such an option. You can sort the albums manually or by title.  As a workaround, make the date a part of the name of the album, for example "2015-04-Birthday album".

How can I sort albums in a genre by release date in the itunes store

Did you figure this out? Am having the same problem.
    EDIT:
Found the group in store (in this case Juana Molina) It said music -> alternative
Changed to column view, and could not find the artist at all in any of the sub categories.

  • How Can I put an Artists Live Albums in a separate folder, so they sort by "Concert Date" in iTunes and do not "intermingle" so to speak with Studio Albums?  Is this possible?

How Can I put an Artists Live Albums in a separate folder, so they sort by "Concert Date" in iTunes and do not "intermingle" so to speak with Studio Albums?  Is this possible?
That is about the best way I can phrase my question.
I put year/month/date at the beginning of a show, hoping for them to sort by date and I get mixed results.
Would creating a Folder within the Artists' existing folder  that said "Pearl Jam Live", inside the "Pearl Jam" folder in iTunes Media help this "Date Sorting Issue"?
    Thank you.

Or is there a way to go through aperture to make a new reference library that I can move the masters into later?
you do not move the masters into a references library - you turn your current library into a referenced library.  As Terence Devlin said:
    File -> Relocate Masters
    What you should set up:
Select a folder, where you want to store your referenced files - probably on an external drive.
Decide on a hierarchical folder structure inside this folder - that is completely up to you.
Select a project from your library and use the command "File -> Relocate Masters/Originals" to move the original image files to the folder where you want to go them to. Only take care not to send two projects to the same folder.
Alternatively, if you do not care about the folder structure Aperture will use, select all images at once from the "Photos" view and let Aperture decide how to assing the folders - in the "Relocate Originals" dialoge you can specify a subfolder format.

  • How to sort photos in albums by date in iPhoto '11

For some reason that I have yet to divine, iphoto 11 jumbles the order of photos in any album I create. For example, I have an album called 'Family', and rather than display the photos by the date they were taken, it jumbles them into a mish mash of images. I took 50 pics yesterday and imported them last night. I opened iphoto today to make some edits, and the photos have been dispersed throughout an album of thousands of images. I know I can go and examine the images in 'Events' or 'Photos', but I'd like to see them in context with the rest of my family photos.
Is there some way to get albums to sort photos by date taken like the older versions of iphoto?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

I may be getting confused with what you need here but does going to:
"View --> Sort Photos --> By Date" solve things?

  • How do you sort photo albums in date order instead of alphabetic order?

My photo albums used to be date sorted but after selecting Sort albums, they are now in alphabetic order. How do I undo that, please?

    Dear Grumpy
this is strictly a user to user forum and is specifically NOT a place to contact Apple  - griping at the volenteer users here does no one any good at all
Have you made the request - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback?

I am sorry that I ran afoul of the user guidelines, I'll remove the rant if I can.  I certainly did not intend my  gripe to target the helpful responder.  And yes, I did provide the feedback to Apple.  I'm just used to such feedback going into a "black hole".  Which this almost certainly does because this problem has existed for years (I Googled for an answer first.)  However, it should be noted that company's tend to respond to feedback that is very public if they want to keep a good name in the business.  The private feedback through the program is like a quiet whisper, only the two parties involved know about it, so there is no real incentive for prompt action.

  • When you show all albums, why can you only sort albums by best sellers, release date, etc., sometimes?

Sometimes I can sort albums by release date and other times I don't have the option. Its frustrating. I tried to look in preferences but couldn't change it.

I agree that Apple should improve the year field to be an actual date.
I am not 100% happy doing this, but when you have multiple albums from a single artist for the same release year, a temporary solution is to chage the album title by adding an outline type letter before album titles for that year, so that they appear in the correct order:
    David Bowie
    1977
    a. Low
    David Bowie
    1977
    b. "Heroes"
    etc
This could help in the short term until Apple changes that field.

Creative ZEN, Albums fused, does not sort albums correctly!
I attach my Creative Zen to my computer true USB,
I manually copy Albums to my creative zen.
If i view my (ZEN) folder in Windows XP, everything looks great and sorted!
I safely remove my ZEN player from my computer,.
    The ZEN rebuilds his data.
I go and view albums, and what do i see each time! over and over again!
Albums fused together, albums scattered true each other, MOST albums got different names then in windows XP!
I get really frustrated from this! how can i make this right!
I want the ZEN to show the albums like in WINDOWS XP! how hard can this be!!!
Thanks for the help in advance!

    Hi,
The Creative ZEN organizes songs according to the ID3tag of the music file, not by folders. If you want to arrange the music files in the order you want, please check and make sure that the music files are tagged properly. You may need a third-party tag editor to do this.

  • Is there a way to sort pdf by date created rather than by date added?

In iBooks in Mavericks, is there a way to sort pdf by date created rather than by date added?

I noticed that the "Year" information and "Release Date" information are usually wrong.
For example, the song "The Twist" by Chubby Checker has 2007 for the year and 3/5/2007 as the release date. I understand that this is the release date of the greatest hits compilation album, but not the song.
Is there any way to change the dates so that I can sort by year? I would like 60s songs to appear with a 1960s year or release date.

  • Sorting albums in iphoto

I have a lot of different albums which appear in the order in which they were created.  I am happy to keep my photos in date order, but would prefer the albums to be alphabetically listed.  Is there a way of doing this.  Also can I file albums within folders to make things easier?  Many thanks

1 - no it won't but of course you have a backup so if anything goes wrong you can go back to just before it happened
2 - sorting albums does just that - sorts albums - it does nothing to photos or to events ore anything else

  • Sorting photos by date/time taken, when date/time created is not an option?

I'm so sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I can't find it on Google or in the forums...
I need to sort wedding photos from multiple photographers by date taken so I can sort through the wedding as a full event. Sorting by the date/time the file was created will not suffice because I had to convert all photos from one of my photogs from NEF to DNG (D610 files not compatible with CS5), so the 'date created' for those DNG file is days later than all the other images. Thus, sorting by "date created' batches all the photos from one of my photogs together at the end.
Is there any option in Bridge that will actually read the metadata and sort by the shoot time of the image?
    Thanks for any help!

There has been a known bug in PSE9 although only affecting raw images and caused by the Camera Raw 6.4 update. The timestamp gets changed by one hour each time an image is modified. I don’t know if your issue is related but the work around is to revert to ACR 6.3
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/915/cpsid_91582.html
The only other work around is to temporarily switch to folder location view, if your images were imported from a single folder. Click on the display button (near top right in Organizer) to change the browser view. If you click on the folder in the left hand pane the files will normally be in sequential file name order which usually mirrors the date/time taken. From the folder location it’s possible to create an instant album, which can then be used as the basis of a slideshow.

  • Sort by Release Date option?

I don't know why an option to sort by "release date" is absent from iTunes. It seems like an obvious way to layout/view music. There isn't even an option to enter the "Release Date"(only "Year") on music files.
I use the pattern "Year/Month/Date - Album Name" with in the "Album Sort Order" field to help iTunes sort my Albums by release date. But, within the "Grid View", it doesn't seem to be possible to sort by "album"(which would use the "sort album" field) to see all the albums by release date.
It just seems like such a basic thing to be added to such a music application.
It seem like there are a lot of these "little" details which iTunes never seems to add. For example: the ability for iTunes to read and write multiple Genres(& subgenre) entries with in a MP3 IDtag.
I just don't understand how the devs can neglect such options, which would be valuable for anyone who likes to keep there music properly labelled.
I wish they would forget silly ideas like PING, and concentrate on trying to make iTunes a deep music browser and management tool, like it should be.
That's the end of my rant.

I was talking about "Grid View". I cannot sort my albums by release date within "Grid View".
But yes, you are correct. Although, in my experience, the issue with using the "Release Date" field is that iTunes seems unable to read some dates correctly.
For example; I have Bob Dylans album "Times They Are A Changin'", and if I enter the release date(using a 3rd party program because you can't edit the "ReleaseTime" field in iTunes), using the correct format, "1964-01-13" iTunes displays this as "Thu 01/01/70". I know this is the correct format because I can enter a newer date and it will display correctly.
So it seems iTunes doesn't recognise anything before that date.
