Sort by Copy Name?

Anyone know how I can sort Lightroom by "Copy Name"?

Yea, what I was afraid of. I've gone back and forth between LR and Aperture (kept the old catalogs so it was not too bad) a number of times as each one has advantages. For me Aperture is much more flexible than LR (example is the limited sorting abilities of LR) and I would use Aperture if it was not for a few things such as: It seems to get confused more than LR (just sits doing something), it does not have gradients, and the big two, the images are sharper in LR and they have less noise at high iso. Aperture on the other hand is much more flexible as far as a DAM system is concerned and I prefer their non tab system of jumping back and forth between the Gallery and Develop modules. I'm wondering if Apertures ability with its DAM system is the reason for the slow downs whereas LRs probably is much simpler.
On a final thought, if Lightroom had tabs on the right and left like it does now but let you select whatever tab you wanted on either side or the same on both sides than I think that may be the best system of all. Imagine Folders on the left and Quick Develop module on the right like it is now, hit "D" and Quick Develop turns into Develop. Hit "command D" and it appears on the left. This way you could have the Develop module showing while also showing say the metadata panel or whatever.

Virtual Copies, Stacking & Sort by File Name

The scenario is as follows...
I create a Virtual Copy of an image (Original & VC automatically stacked)
The file is sorted based on the File Name of the Original file.
I now move the Virtual Copy to the top of the stack.
The file has been moved to the very beginning of the sort list!!!???
Sort by File Name no longer works as expected even though the VC and the Original have the same file name.
This behaviour is the same whether the stack is collapsed or expanded.
File returns to correctly ordered sort position when Original is moved back to the top of the stack.
Does anybody have an explanation for this?

Syncing downloaded movies from itunes to ipad which then suddenly stops and will not finish the sync stating itunes could not copy "name of movie" to the ipad because the file could not be written. restored the ipad to factory settings, reinstalled itune

I have had to format my PC running windows 7, and reset my ipad 1 to factory settings, i then installed latest itunes on the PC authorised the PC and re downloaded several movies via itunes previous purchases, all was well until i tried to sync the ipad to the PC, only some of the movies synced onto the ipad, otheres stalled the sync stating itunes could not copy "name of movie" to the ipad because the file could not be written. I have to pull the plug on the ipad just to get itunes to unfreeze, but it still will not sync these movies. and one help

I was having the same issue with music and movies but it had been ok before. The sync would freeze on a random file and then i had to take out the USB cable to clear it. After trying all sorts of things i saw someone mentioning about Anti virus and firewalls. I am using McAfee so i disabled it as a test. After this i could sync music and movies without issue!!!!! So in my case the firewall/anti virus was causing a problem. McAfee updates itself a lot so I am guessing something has happened in a recent update that impacted iTunes.I am not sure if this kind of thing is also causing your problem but it sounds very familiar.

How do I get the artist list to sort by "last name, first name" but display as "first name last name"?

Use the new Sorting fields.
If you Get Info on a track and select the Sorting tab, you can enter lastname firstname (e.g. "Cash Johnny") into the Sort Artist field, and iTunes will from then on alphabetize that track by last name (with the C's, in my example). The display name will be unaffected.
Since iTunes doesn't know how to divide up artists into first and last names, there's no easy way to automate the process — you'll need to do it by hand. But once you've changed one track by an artist, you can control-click that song in your library and select "Apply sort fields..." from the contextual menu that pops up to copy the sorting information to all songs by that artist.
You can do this with many other fields, too — you can, for instance, delete initial quotation marks so those songs aren't erroneously sorted to the front of the alphabet.

Curiously, the most recently inputted entries do sort properly, as do all company entries.
Does that mean "most recently inputted" AFTER you upgraded to Snow Leopard?
If that is true, it would mean that something about your existing records before the upgrade, for the records that are people contacts (with first and last names) instead of business contacts, do not agree with Snow Leopard and/or Snow Leopard's version of Address Book.
This may not be feasible, but if you exported the records with this problems and then imported them, maybe they will be re-inputted so that are properly sorted.
If you use Time Machine, maybe you can use the +flying through space+ interface to restore one of the records with this problem to see if the restore process makes the record sort properly.

How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name (using v 31.3.0).

After a computer crash, I had to load Thunderbird (v31.3.0) back into my machine running Windows 8.1, and I successfully imported my address book back up file into Thunderbird (v31.3.0).
My problem is that I don't see an option to sort the address book by "Last" name, which was available with the version of Thunderbird I had before the crash.
How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name?

In 'Address Book'
Select address book
'View' > 'Show name as' > 'Last/First'
The you can sort by Name.
Either click on 'Name' column header to change sort order,
If reversed, then click on 'Name' column header again to reverse the order.
Or
'View' > 'Sort By' > choose 'Name' and 'Ascending'

IPod won't sync - "Itunes could not copy (name of song) to the ipod (name of ipod) Because an unknown error occurred (-53)"

I recently bought a used iPod Classic (my previous one was stolen). I still had my iTunes library on my computer so I was just going to hook it up and sync my library over, replacing what was on there from the previous user. When I first hooked it up to my computer (Windows 7 64-bit) there was a message saying the drivers were not installed properly. I un-plugged it, and plugged it back in to the same result. I tried 1 more time and didn't get the error message. I then opened iTunes and clicked on the iPod. I checked for updates, then clicked "Restore this iPod". Next, I set it up to sync music, and the sync began. It seemed to work for a while, the "Syncing iPod" message was displayed at the top, and it said it was copying songs over. It did this for about 10 minutes before I finally got the following message:
"Itunes could not copy (name of song) to the ipod (name of ipod) Because an unknown error occurred (-53)"
After that happens, everything seems to freeze up. iTunes says it's still syncing, but nothing ever seems to happen. If I click the eject button, nothing happens either. I eventually have to just disconnect the iPod. The iPod seems frozen for a while, then it seems to reboot itself (the gray apple window displays), then the interface displays and I can get to the songs on there. But, only a very small portion of my library makes it to the iPod. I've tried several times now and it always seems to be the same songs that DO make it onto the iPod. However, it's a different song listed in the error message each time, so it doesn't seem to be just 1 song causing the problem. Also, once I hook the iPod back to the computer, Windows displays a message prompting me to scan the drive and fix errors. I did it once and it said it found some errors and fixed them.

and some people were suggesting removing everything from your library then re-adding it, in case the paths were messed up. I tried that and still got the same results. I also updated iTunes to the latest version, and I've tried different USB ports and 2 different USB cables.

What else can I try to fix this?

PSE6 - sort by file name

How to sort by file name in the Organize view of PSE6.
I tried Display->Folder Location. But there are still two pictures (#15 and #18 out of 130) which are shown at the end of the view.
More sort options in the thumbnail view would be helpful.

images are in a different folder they don't end up in the right sequence?

How can I make Sort by File Name the default in Adobe Bridge CS5?

The only online support I have found so far avoids the specific question. Must I assume that Sort by File Name cannot be made the default - and will revert to Manual each time I close Bridge?

If you have "start bridge at login checked" your changes will not keep unless you close program by clicking on File then Exit. Just closing window does not exit program.
Option is in advanced preferences.

How can I get Elements 11 Organiser to sort by File Name as in Elements 7

I have just acquired Elements 11 to replace Elements 7
All my main photos (thousands) are in 1 file on my computer.
My individual file names are dates - eg "1960-09Sept Venice St Marks Square.." etc, so File Names bring my thousands of images up in date order.
I have tagged them in Elements 11 as appropriate with 1 or more Tags per photo.
In Elements 7 there is an Option "Display" and one of the options is "Folder Location" i.e file name order, which is what I want.
I cannot find this option in Elements 11 - all I have found is an option to sort by just "new" or "old" i.e file date order. Fine for photgraphs where the file date is the same as the photo but a scan done today may be of an image in 1960 which is where I wanted it sorted!
I know you can amend the file date in Elements 11 for each image but I have hundreds of scans to redate!
I also know you can bring the images up in Elements 11 of my whole file by using "Reveal in Explorer" which brings them up in file name/date order for me but not when I click on the Elements 11 Tags which reverts to File Date.
Is there anyway I can get the Tags to sort by File Name/Location in Elements 11 as in Elements 7?

In fact in preparing to answer your question, I find that maybe my problem is not as bad as I thought!
Yes, I have a lot of photos but the majority in digital form are photos (2,500) since the year 2000 which will be sorted by Elements according to the photo/file date.
I have 6,000 or so prints/slides going back mostly to the 1930s but quite a few back as far as the late 1800s. I am scanning a lot of these into digital form but I have only scanned about 500 or so so far and it is only these that are causing a problem. (I am unlikely to scan all 6,000!). These range from the 1880s to 2000. However, as I only started taking digital photos in 2000, if I follow your suggestion, I could give all my scans the same file date (a date prior to 2000) and if I understand correctly what you say, they will then all be sorted in the alpha/numeric order I want.
Have I got this right?.
I suppose, as an alternative, It would not be a real problem to insert a file date for the 500 or so I have scanned and I would then just need to enter a file date for any future scans.
As you indicate, there are other options but one of the 2 options above seem at present to be my best bet.
Thank you very much for your suggestions - maybe I can now more or less get what I want without too much effort but I would still prefer Adobe to add a File Location Option as before!

How do i sort by file name for an album? I organize the photos from all different sources.. by filename.. and when i import them i just want them in the right order. This has to be one of the most basic functions and why was it eliminated from iPhoto?

"Keep sorted by date" can only be toggled on and off for regular albums, not for smart albums.

I need a clear answer - can files be sorted by file name in pse8.

I have looked everywhere in pse8 and cannot find a way to sort my pictures by file name. I cannot believe Adobe would have left this capability out of the program. First and foremost, I must have the ability to sort by file name across folders. If PSE8 cannot do it, what's another product can do it? My friend, an expert user initially recommended me to Bridge but I haven't been able to buy or download Bridge alone, what is my best option to have that kind of sort capability without spending an arm and a leg to get that plus a bunch of other features that I don't need.

Create your Sort Variant accouding top your requirement, Input the same in Configuration of paymen.
