SORT order in BO vs Database that is attached to

Hello
We have another issue with WEBi reports.  When we do sor
Database sorts values this way:
u201CA Cu201D
u201CA Mu201D
u201CAE
u201CAIu201D
Why Business Object does not consider space as a valid character for sorting. So it will sort the same values different way
u201CA Cu201D
u201CAEu201D
u201CAIu201D
u201CA Mu201D
I would appreciate any help on this and the previous issues.

Hello
When I just run Oracle query it sorts them correctly, so I do not think this is a data issue.  We have talk to BO and they said "
Hi Tim, the behavior you experienced in sorting with space is currently by design. To define the sort you want to accomplish, webi allows you to create a custom sort."  but it is kind of pain to do it for every report.  I wish you can just change it globally.  Does any know of any work around?

  • Sort order in Java application (oc4j container) -- ear file deployment

    I have a Java application deploy in Oracle OC4J container (EAR file).
    In my Java application (jsp), I have a SQL statement who return data but the

    Robin,
    I'm only guessing, but it could either be related to the java locale or the CHARSET attribute of the HTML header -- and nothing to do with the NLS parameters.
    Maybe you should try the Globalization Support forum?

  • Sort Order: Case insensitive... move NULL to end of list

    Hello All,
    I am trying to sort a set a values, and NULL is a possible value. In the report I am displaying the NULL as EMPTY (I cannot leave that as NULL). I was wondering if there is a way to display this 'EMPTY' value as the last element in the list.
    I tried to append various ASCII characters in front of it, but nothing seems to work. Even is if enclose it in parenthesis, is does alphabetical sort.
    Is there a work around ?
    Thanks for your time !

    Nemi, Deborah,
    According to SAP Note 1200528 - Web Intelligence does not utilize special characters when sorting, this 'issue' is by design and not by design.
    The following is a copy-paste from the note:
    Symptom
    When attempting to sort a Web Intelligence document on a particular column, special characters such as "-" or "." are not respected.  For example, add the following into a database and then create a Web Intelligence report.
    a-Austria
    a-Austrailia
    a-Belgium
    a B-Argentina
    a B-Brazil
    a B-Egypt
    When you sort this data in Web Intelligence it appears as:
    a-Austria
    a-Austrailia
    a B-Argentina
    a B-Brazil
    a B-Egypt
    a-Belgium
    Cause
    This behavior is by design. For Enterprise XI Release 2, the Lexicographical order of the International components of Unicode has been implemented. This order sorts with respect to the language set for a data source.  This means that if we modify the sort order for English, other languages that we support will also have changes in their sort order.  In this case we must do our best to respect all the languages that we support.
    For more information please go to http://icu.sourceforge.net/
    Resolution
    To work around this behavior, complete one of the following:
    Workaround 1:
    Create a formula on the field such as
    "=Replace([Col001];"-";" ")"
    This will replace the - with a space although for this example the sort will be in the same "wrong" order, it will look much nicer.
    - or-
    Workaround 2:
    Create a custom sort:
    1. Select the section cell or table cells you want to sort.
    2. Click the down arrow next to the Apply/Remove Sort button on the Report toolbar then select Custom... from the drop-down list.

  • Any way to Restore Last Manual Sort Order or Prevent from being Overwritten accidentally?

         Help!
         I'm constantly accidentally overwriting painstakingly created manual sort ordering (sometimes hours but more often months of accumulated work) in folders with files numbering up to 1,000, when i, however breifly, switch to another sort ordering (size, date modified etc) to check something, immediately forget that i'm in another sort order, and, unthinkingly (actually i guess i'm thinking of a lot of other things) drag a file to another position, this immediately destroys any past manual sorting i've established, overwriting it with this new inadvertent manual ordering.
         I've tried CommandZ (edit undo) but that only undoes my last rating or labeling, i've rushed to force quit Bridge through the activity montior hoping i will catch it before its overwritten, but obviously i am not as fast as a computer, and i don't think this has ever worked.
    Is there any way or any script someone has written to formally save a manual sort order? Is there anything i've missed to attempt restoring it? Has anyone, repeatedly foiled by this, written something that would give a warning and require confirmation say for instance, if i tried to drag or move a file while in another sort ordering (this seems like something that should have existed the minute the opportunity was given to create manual organization). Would anyone be willing to?
         Seriously, me forgetting almost every time isn't going to change and, more vexingly, it's even happened when i didn't mean to move anything but fumbled momentarily while in another sort order. I think most people might forget because (in the context of computing) we are conditioned to expect a warning if something we have just created is about to be written over or discarded, and since there is no option to formally save a manual ordering we have just created.
         Also, if this was in the real world, moving a single file would not reshuffle everything on your desk. If i had the option to formally save a manual organization i would NOT forget to do this and would use it, as i've wished for one every time spent a while rearranging files. Knowing how easily all the hours (much less months and years of cumulative work) of organizational work can be accidentally lost makes working within Bridge unpleasantly anxious.
          I'm literally willing to do anything including installing some sketchy 3rd-part scripts (though honestly i have no idea what that means or how to do it). I extentively use and rely heavily upon this function so this is a fairly serious Achille's heel. It's like watching your incredibly important meticulously constructed house of cards collapse with a careless but innocent sigh, or like having the equivelent of a not even charming cat dance across your keyboard during a live concert, etc etc....
         Also it is not usually appropriate, given the context, to batch rename everything to preserve a manual ordering w sequence numbers, etc. Often the filenames are considerably (but necessarily, to connote important differences) long already, and when i have to rearrange things in the future would have to do that each time, etc, etc, making for even more unwieldly filenames that didn't have any substantive information at the beginning. I'm looking for a way to make this function (manual sort ordering), well, more functional, secure and stable, the workarounds i've considered cause too many additonal problems.
         Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer, and as this is my first attempt to use the forums as i live on a boat with no regular net access, would appreciate any forum etiquette corrections, and advance apologies for any misspellings, dyslexic and spellcheck does not seem to work in this interface. next time will edit in external wordprocessing program beforehand,

         PS i'm on a 27" mac w CS4 Design Premium, w up to the minute OS (10.6.8) and Adobe software updates installed recently (i do not often move the monster but this week was housesitting w net access, so she has had all recommended shots and vaccinations....)
         PPS I know most of y'all might be running the newest and the latest of everything, but, i'm fairly certain this is still a problem in recent versions as this has happened to me at school where all the macs are running cs5. Though if it's been addressed somehow in cs6 would update entire suite just to fix this one problem in Bridge. I've tried many searches and found nothing relevant or wouldn't bother the considerable expertise and resources of an official forum, was extremely hesitant to ask (feared getting snapped at for unwittingly broaching forum etiquette) but it is truly the bane of my considerable Bridge existence, so was willing to risk the imaginary censure and opprobrium....

    That is a good question, to do this requires two functions and a restart of Bridge all done automagically
    Copy and paste the script into ExtendScript Toolkit
    This gets installed with Photoshop and can be found:-
    PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities
    MAC: <hard drive>/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities
    Start Bridge
    PC: Edit - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    Mac: Adobe Bridge menu - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    At the bottom click the "Reveal Button" this will open the folder where the script should be saved.
    Close and restart Bridge.
    Accept the new script.
    To use:
    Tools - Backup Manual Sort
    This will backup the hidden manual sort file .BridgeSort to .BridgeSortSave
    Tools - Restore Manual Sort
    This will copy the .BridgeSortSave back to .BridgeSort and will close and restart Bridge so that the manual sort is restored.
    if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    var backUpManSort = new MenuElement( "command","Backup Manual Sort", "at the end of Tools" , "backupms" );
    var RestoreManSort = new MenuElement( "command","Restore Manual Sort", "at the end of Tools" , "restorems" );
    backUpManSort.onSelect = function () {
    var fileSort = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSort");
    var fileSave = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSortSave");
    if(fileSave.exists) fileSave.remove();
    fileSort.copy(fileSave);
    fileSave.hidden=true;
    RestoreManSort.onSelect = function () {
    var fileSort = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSort");
    var fileSave = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSortSave");
    if(!fileSave.exists){
    alert("No backup file exists");
    return;
    app.document.sorts = [{ type:"string",name:"document-kind", reverse:false }];
    if(fileSort.exists) fileSort.remove();
    fileSave.copy(fileSort);
    fileSort.hidden=true;
    app.document.chooseMenuItem("mondo/command/new");
    app.documents[0].close();
    app.document.sorts = [{ name:"user",type:"date", reverse:false }];
    Hope this works for you.

  • Sort order in Library Module

    I am having a problem in getting the sort order I want in Library module.  I originally imported JPEG files into a subfolder "Best Of".  I then returned to some of those photos (the RAW file) and developed them, then exported them as JPEG files to the same "best of" subfolder.  Although I have specified "capture date" as the sort criterion, the photos are displayed with the first batch of JPEG files in order shot, followed by the second batch of JPEG's that I developed, also in order shot.  As a result, all the developed files appear toward the end of the film strip, not in the actual order shot.  I would appreciate any tips.

    I can't replicate this issue with my Lightroom 5.5 on Windows 7
    However, if you don't mind me thinking out of the box, it seems like you are doing a lot of work to obtain a result that can be done much simpler, if you are willing to use a collection for this purpose. Simply drag the edited photo into a "Best Of" collection in Lightroom (no exporting needed), and you shouldn't have any trouble getting the proper sort order inside the collection. That's a lot less work than exporting! Saves disk space too! (And bvefore you object and say you have reasons why you need these in a folder for non-Lightroom purposes, that's easily solved by using a collection ... just do the export from the collection into a "Best Of" folder)

  • Sort order - Finnish_Swedish_CI_AS

    Don´t get the sort order here: I would say that aggr_gem-01 and aggr_gem-02 should come next to each other - but apparantly not. - anyone know why ?
    SELECT [name]
    FROM [LagringsAdm].[dbo].[FLtest]
    order by [name]
    gives:
    name
    aggr_gem-01
    aggr_gem01_mirr-01
    aggr_gem01_mirr-10
    aggr_gem01-04
    aggr_gem01-12
    aggr_gem-02

    The sort order is based on the Finnish_Swedish collation.  You can get the results you want by specifying the collation in your ORDEER BY statement.  The below code demonstrates this:
    CREATE
    TABLE#temp(
    name
    VARCHAR(25)
    GO
    INSERT
    #temp
    VALUES
    ('aggr_gem-01'),
    ('aggr_gem01_mirr-01'),
    ('aggr_gem01_mirr-10v'),
    ('aggr_gem01-04'),
    ('aggr_gem01-12'),
    ('aggr_gem-02');
    GO
    SELECT*
    FROM#temp
    ORDERBYname
    COLLATEFinnish_Swedish_CI_AS
    GO
    SELECT*
    FROM#temp
    ORDERBYname
    COLLATESQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
    GO
    DROPTABLE#temp;

    How did you import them into iWeb? When I put them in an iPhoto Album, sort as desired and drag that album into an iWeb photo page from the Media Browser the sort order is kept. Is that how you're doing it?

  • IDCS5 Win: Panel Tree View sort order

    Hello everyone:
    I have a panel tree view that is displaying document names in a backward sort order.   When I say that I mean that the sort order is as so:
    5
    4
    3
    2
    1
    as opposed to
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    I have stepped through the code and in the Adapter, they are geting placed into the string list in the latter order i.e. 1,2,3,4,5).  What could be causing this reverse sort order?
    R,
    John

    Yes, if the Track Number field is empty in the File Info dialog, for all files in the Files panel, then Audition will revert to "Recent Access" sorting.
    There is no relationship between this File Info: Track Number, and the track number you see in the CD View.
    I understand your confusion. However, note that it is possible to add the same file (from the Files panel) to the CD View track list. So imagine you have "My Song.wav" in the Files panel. And then added it to the CD view track list at track positions 1, 3, and 5. If we were to sort the Files panel by track number as they appear in the CD View, then which track would be associated with "My Song.wav"? Track 1, 3, or 5?
    This feature was added primarily as an enhancement to the typical CD ripping (File > Extract Audio From CD) workflow. After ripping audio tracks, the resulting files that appear in your Files panel will be tagged with a Track Number. It is usually handy to sort by this CD track title rather than by filename or other sorting option.

  • Sorting Order for SAP Tables in DB2 database

    Dear Experts -
    ISSUE: When an ABAP program selects data from the DB into an internal
    table, it is changing the way the data is sorted. In other words, the
    internal table data is in a different sort order than what is in the
    DB. It is not working this way in all other non-production systems
    (DEV, QAS, SAX, etc).
    Temporary solution for the programs that have been identified as
    impacted: Use the ABAP Command 'sort' on the internal table.
    Permanent solution needed : Since it is impossible to identify all
    of the programs that will be impacted, we need PRD to work like DEV,
    QAS, SAX, etc. when selecting data into internal tables. The data
    should be in the same order as it is in the DB (sorted by the key).
    ADDITIONAL INFO: DB2 storage disks crashed a day before. H/W team recovered everything. We are facing this only after the recovery.
    Thanks,
    Dinesh

    can you please check in your code if the sql that is being sent has an order by clause .
    Please let us know the SQL statements that is basically used to fill up the internal table.
    When data is fetched from the database, it is not sorted always. Probably you had a clustered index on the tables and the clustering is not there now.

  • Urgent!  Details of english sort orders in SQL databases

    I need (for reasons that would take too long to explain and probably breach company security) to duplicate in Java (preferably a Comparator) the sorting order used by a SQL database.
    I can find lots of things telling me how to tell a database to use a sort order, but nothing will tell me exactly what that order is.
    Does anybody have a clue? And yes, we are prepared to buy books for this.

    It is probably different for each database. It can even be different for different installations of the same database if the charset can be custom set. You would need to know the specifics for the database you are working with, which the dba should know.

  • Are the database tables stored in a sorted order?

    Hi-
    Are the records in a databse table stored in a sorted order based on key fields??
    Thanks.
    Ramesh.

    A,
    Unfortunately, this is not a clearly or fully explained concept in the BC400 class.
    As stated in the course text, the ITAB will have the "order" of the DB table.
    This may or may not be in actual key order.  It depends on whether or not the primary key index is ALWAYS kept up to date / ordered by your DBAs.
    This is rarely done as it is very "expensive" to the system... vitually impossible to be truthful.
    Because of this, you can never GUARANTEE in a Production system that all records are stored in a primary key order.  To guarantee ordering, you must FORCE the system to order the result set through:
    ORDER BY
    or
    SORT after the database retrieval is completed and the result set is returned to the App server

  • Sort results on app or database side?

    I'd like to think that this is a bit trickier than it might first appear. We have some queries that use ORDER BY, and our database guy is telling us to take them out and do them on the web app side to cut down on Oracle 10g's use of the TEMP table. Here's an example of a frequently run query that populates a quick access select box of their address book entries:
    SELECT ReceiverID FROM ADDRESSBOOK WHERE AccountNbr = ? ORDER BY UPPER(ReceiverID)We realized that ORDER BY is probably redundant there since the pair key consists of the AccountNbr and ReceiverID, so since it'll use the index they'll come across already sorted. However, when you go searching, you have queries like this, and even more complicated ones as well:
    SELECT ReceiverID, CompanyName FROM ADDRESSBOOK WHERE AccountNbr = ? AND UPPER(CompanyName) LIKE UPPER(?) ORDER BY UPPER(CompanyName)In that case, we need to sort, either in the database or on the application side. Typically, the results per account number are around 200 or less, but sometimes it's in the thousands. I've always thought you're supposed to make the database do stuff like this, but if the database is having to go out to disk to use the TEMP table, then maybe in this case it could be better to sort the ResultSet in Java...I was happy to find out that String already has a Comparator for that, so you can write:
    Collections.sort(myList, String.CASE_INSENSITIVE_ORDER)However, on the main address book page, they see about five fields of each entry, and they can sort by any of the five fields. So, say the field they want to sort by is CompanyName. Then I'll have to put all the CompanyNames into a List and also into a HashMap where they're a key to the rest of the fields, and then sort the List and pull the CompanyNames out one by one to get the rest of the fields whose info needs to go on the same line on the webpage. In other words, this seems to be the reason for using ORDER BY on the database side in the first place, so please correct me if I'm wrong...

    You're not wrong. Databases are designed and optimized to do exactly what you're doing; a dba that tells you otherwise would be suspect in my opinion.

  • SORT ORDER WITHIN GROUPS

    Post Author: Kara
    CA Forum: General
    Hi,
    I am using version 9. I have designed a report based on an access control database. It shows a person's time in and time out, then totals these hours. My report is grouped as follows:
    Department
    Date/Time
    Unique ID
    The main data of the report is shown in group footer 3 (Unique ID) and is displayed in numerical order. I need to change the sort order to display by last name, first name but because I have grouped by unique ID I can't seem to be able to do it!
    Any help gratefully received,

    I use a similar report to track service personnel who also have a unique ID.  I have mine set up as follows - maybe this'll help.
    I used selection expert to specify the dates I want to see.
    Group 1 sorts on the unique ID. Instead of printing the unique ID field in the group header, I have Employee.EmpName.  They'll come out in their unique ID sort so the names might be a little out of order. If that's a problem you could put sort option on that field.
    Group 2 sorts by the Job ID, with the group header suppressed.
    Detail line has location, job id, date, time on, time off, total time in hours and if it's completed.
    Group 2 summarizes at date and amount at the job ID level.
    Group 1 summarizes at technician.
    I get very accurate reports to match against their hand written time cards.
    Perhaps if you re-arranged the grouping?
