Sorting images on iPhone 4 - Why to optimize
Disclaimer: Tried to find a solution using forum search - no luck.
Scenario - too 500 pictures with my iPhone in the last couple weeks.
Want to sort them into few albums.
Downloaded on my PC, sorted into few sub-directories, started sync in iTunes.
iTunes is syncing and takes a lot of time to optimize each image.
Why optmize if these pics were taken on this iPhone?
How to turn this strange feature off?

The iPhone takes photos as so many megapixels depending on the model of iPhone you have. The iPhone screen does not have as many pixels. iTunes will optimize the images for the screen your iPhone has, thus saving you space on the iPhone by only downloading smaller files.

This drives me bonkers. Everytime I look for an image I've been working on, I go to Bridge and I'm always presented with the images sorted by rating instead of by date.
Then I click on the microscopic sized, extremely tiny arrow that allows one to choose 'sort by date modified' and I resort them to find the file I need. So that's always 3 extra clicks to find the image.
WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?

I know I could just keep the recent files rated the highest, but still, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it work the way I'd like it to work?

By default it does stay at the latest selected sort order so this could mean it is due to your install.
First of all try to reset the preferences for Bridge, hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences. This sets it all to default. First try if the problem is solved then set prefs again to your own custom wishes.
Also check and repair permissions for the OSX itself (Apple has disk utility in the utility folder for this job, and there are other 3th party applications)
And be sure to have the latest update for Bridge. (Bridge CS5 should be 4.0.5.11)
In addition to the method Tai Lao pointed you already to there is a third option, use right click mouse button in content window and the pop up menu has also the sort option at the bottom of the row -

It may be that your iPhone's set to sync automatically, which can potentially remove any music that's been added to the device. It may help to set the device to 'manual mode,' so that you have complete and total control over what content is on the device.

Why is optimizer different in sql than in pl/sql?
Hello, I am running Oracle database 9i, it is running on an On-Demand hosted server, its purpose is to serve our Oracle Payroll application.
I have a certain query, and first tried it as a stand-alone query. It displayed the results almost immediatly.
Then I inserted the exact same query in a pl/sql block. It took more than one hour and canceled it. By looking at the session browser in TOAD, I saw that it was stuck on that query.
I also saw that the explain-plan for the query changed drastically from running as stand-alone sql to running inside pl/sql.
Why is this happening? How can I avoid this?
Please note that I do not intend to use optimizer hint since the indexes are built by oracle On-Demand and not me, so I don't know which indexes exist.

As you can see, the cost goes way up when running inside a pl/sql block.

If you replace bind variables with literals then you have a totally different query, with much more information available to the optimizer. If you are seeing the same statement with the same literal values get a different plan within PL/SQL than in SQL*Plus or TOAD etc then there must be something else different. Unfortunately there is a lot less diagnostic info available in 9i (and I don't have 9i around to test on). Perhaps you can get a 10053 trace from each session and see if you can see what is different.
btw I still can't read the execution plan. There is more information in the DBMS_XPLAN output, and it needs to be formatted using ** tags or equivalent HTML. -

There is no convenient way to save the comments. You can copy the comments one by one and collect them in a document by pasting them there - a mail, a Pages document, or similar. Add the photo to the document and you have a record of the comments. It will be a lot of tedious work, however.

Sort image files by average luminance and by average hue?
Hi. I would like to be able to sort images by average luminance and by average hue. Is there anything in OS X that will let me determine the average luminance or average hue of an image, and save that datum to the image?
Ultimately, I would like to use this within Aperture (my sole area of expertise {all my ASC points are from the Aperture forum}). After I posted the question there, a regular suggested I post in this forum to find out what is possible: specifically, are there any AppleScript hooks that might allow this? (Sadly, I don't script, but it helps me know what can be done.)
I know of one program which does this: CF/X's Photo Mosaic, which uses the averages to match an image to a tile in the "master image". I don't know of any way to attach the Photo-Mosaic-generated averages to the files themselves. I asked CF/X about this today.

You may try the AppleScript script listed below. It is a simple wrapper of rubycocoa script which uses CIFilter to calculate average brightness and hue of each image (jpg|jpeg|png) in specified directory tree. It is a skeleton just to generate a TSV output of [brightness, hue, file] records sorted by brightness and then hue on desktop. I don't know how to embed these info into image metabata.
Script is briefly tested under 10.6.8.

If you can't download 6D images to iPhone
Just got my 6D last week. Love it! Excellent implementation of WiFi to iOS devices (iPhone and iPad). Only a couple of pushes to establish connection after the first pairing.
But, I had a problem at first: From the iPhone I could control the camera, view all images on the SD card and email small, medium, large or full size images with no problem. But, I couldn't save images to iPhone Camera Roll. If I hit the SAVE icon, it would just give me a BUSY icon forever and would not save.
THE PROBLEM: Emailed and called Canon, but they had no idea except to delete and reload the EOS REMOTE App which didn't help. However, a hint from another website identified the problem. When I first connected the iPhone and EOS 6D, I accidentally hit "NO" when asked to "allow the 6D to access my camera roll". I instinctively don't allow most apps to access location services, contacts or camera roll until I'm familiar with the app. In this case it keeps EOS REMOTE from saving photos, and no error message.
To FIX THIS: On your iPhone, go to SETTINGS/PRIVACY/PHOTOS/EOS REMOTE and turn access to ON.
Immediately started working like a champ.
Great camera. Great app.

How to Control the Sorting Order of iPhone Contacts from Outlook?
In a series of editing steps we've loaded ca. 1,900 personal and business contacts from Outlook into a 1st gen iPhone with 2.0.1 software on it. To our surprise we found that while most of the entries were listed and sorted by company, certain entries were listed and sorted by the person's name. It looked random and there didn't seem to be any way to control it on the iPhone.
While troubleshooting the problem we synced up the iPhone with an empty Address Book on a MacBook Pro and found that the sort order flag was indeed set differently on these entries. When we changed the sorting flag of a contact in the Mac's Address Book to "Company" it also changed on the iPhone after the next sync.
Problem: In our business environment it is impossible to switch to Macs for contact administration. We need to do it from Outlook. This is one of several features needed for the adoption of iPhones.
Question: Is there a way to control this flag on the individual iPhone contact entries from Outlook Contacts?Well, I think we figured it out.
Outlook doesn't offer a sorting flag on person or company name. Instead it uses a separate "File As" string. The problem with our contacts was that this "File As" string was frequently edited to be something else than exactly the personal or company name, e.g. it was set to an abbreviated company name. Once we set the "File As" to any of the defaults offered, i.e. person or company name, the sorting flag in iPhone was properly set through the synchronization.
Obviously, the application logic compares the content of these fields in Outlook and decides how to set the flag. If it can't find the company name in "File As" it defaults to person.
This was an expensive holdup for us. It cost us 2 man days to figure it out. Is there any place where such application logic is described? -

I've opened a bug for this issue as well. I want to ask if anyone experiencing the same issue and has found a workaround. Basically Air Runtime is picking up the wrong launch image when launching on iPhone 6. It defaults to [email protected] instead of the [email protected] iOS 8 picks the correct image but Air Runtime does not. Here is the link for the bug. If this is confirmed, this could result in rejection for all the app developers who optimized their apps for iPhone 6 . It is hard to catch this bug in release mode since the Air Runtime loads pretty fast and it occurs when you device is slow or doing something in the background. You can see it easily on iOS simulator or debug mode. We tried everything for a workaround but we failed.

When you open a new project in xcode you can look at Contents.json and see the naming conventions they use for iOS8. We grabbed the new naming convention from here. Also setting up in the application xml the UILaunchImages key works too. Please see the below example. It would be a better solution if Adobe Air refers to xml/info.plist values that the developer sets instead of hard-coded naming conventions.

Launch image for iPhone 5 with Flash CS6
How do I add the required iPhone 5, 4 inch screen launch images to my build using Flash CS6. I have targeted Air 3.8 beta and there is no support for bundling the necessary images. Do I need to edit the plist or app descriptor xml file or something? Do Adobe plan to accommodate these new Apple requirments in a future version of CS6 or AIR SDK?
Up until now I have had no problems submitting binaries to the Appstore, but as of May 1st Apple reject any binaries that are not optimized for the 4 inch screen of the iPhone 5.

Thanks for your effort!!!Did exactly the same, but no result.I changed the version number in Flash in the airsettings to 2.1, and also tried (1.1, 2.1. 1.0.1)After that, put another version ready to upload. Select this version in the apploader.And than it tells me: This bundle is invalid. The value for key cfkbunleversion in the info.plist file must contain a higher version than that of the previously uploaded version.
I do not want to update my app, but only the screens you see when buying the app in de store.And also the name of the developer. I changed my apple id from [email protected] into [email protected] thought if I run an update, the apple-id of the app will change.
(I am not sure).

I'm not entirely sure what process you've gone through, but as far as uploading an update goes, it's much like uploading your original app. You need to go to iTunes Connect first and log in, go to "Manage Your Apps" and then click on the app you want to upload an update for. There'll be an option on the next page that says "Add a version". You then enter the information that you need to for the updated app and click on "Save". You'll then have the button you need to click on that says something like "Ready to Upload Binary" or something similar.
Once you click on that, you need to open up Application Loader and then upload your updated app through that. If you've entered the correct information in the steps above, you should be able to choose the new version number for your app from a list. You then just submit it like you did originally.
After that, you simply have to wait. It's not instantaneous. Submitting an update is much the same as when you submit an app for the first time. It has to go through the whole review and approval process all over again. So when you go back to iTunes Connect, you'll see for the app you've updated, there'll be a green light for the older version that's approved and currently on the App Store and an orange light for the update that's waiting approval. Once the update has been successful, it will automatically replace the older version (if you chose that option earlier) and then you will only have the one green light, for the most recent version, on iTunes Connect and then people who have downloaded the app previously will get the Update alert in the App Store on their phone/device letting them know that there are updates available.
For me, the update process was reasonably quick. It took anywhere between 3 and 5 days before the update became active on the App Store. Hope this helps.

Help with cropping & sorting images prior to export for print
I have large project (wedding) within which I've sorted images into several folders (pre-wedding, church, family portraits, etc.) within which there are smart albums based on my ratings. I also have a generic "5 Star" album at the top level which contains the final images that have been adjusted and which the client has been provided with in order to choose from.
I now have a list of print requirements from the client (image name, size, and quantity).
I'm curious to know what the quickest way to sort and tag the images selected for print, particularly in view of there being a number of different size requests for the images which are to be printed.
Also - I'd value opinions (based on experience) on whether I should bother cropping to size for images that are 5x7 and 8x10 (the default ratio is 2x3 at the moment).
The bottom line is that I'm trying to minimise the amount of time I spend on print tagging and cropping prior to export, and post export sorting prior to sending off to the lab.

I am assuming that you want a new version of the crop size especially if you have an image/s that are required in multiple sizes like 8x10 and 5x7 the image would end up in each crop size album so you would have two versions one for each aspect ratio and doing the new version in the context of the album would make in the album pic so that the proper one will be at the top of the stack in each respective album.
Orientation does not matter with the stamp it will work fine - if you have an issue let me know.
with respect to the stamp - the stamp will position the crop relative to the one you lifted - if your lifted crop is in the middle then so will the stamped ones.
As for adjustment of the crop - just click on the crop tool, the click on the browser image and arrow through the images with the crop tool open - you can drag the crop around for each one with a minimum of keystrokes.
Try it and hit me back with issues. I do this all the time and it is about 3000x quicker than my old workflow 5 years ago. For that matter the power of albums, stacks, and stack picks for this kind of thing is fabulous, there are a million ways to use it to speed things up. Bonus is that you are not copying anything so it is virtually free from a resource perspective.
Last but not least I would think twice before using a smart album to do this, youi really do not want the content changing in this type of album, it will not save you any time, I would use static albums in the manner that I suggested.
