Sound doesn't work after Leopard install

I installed Leopard last night, on my G4 Mirror-door, which is a twin 1.25GB with 4Gb RAM. Now, I am unable to get sound out of my subwoofer (the transparent USB that came with my Cube) or my speakers (Bose with RCA plug).
I was trying to listen to a podcast, and initially I got normal sound, then it became intermittent, then it stopped. The System Preferences look normal, and the volume is definitely turned up in iTunes, the menu bar, and on the speakers.
It looked a little like the problem might be iTunes, since neither podcasts nor music shows any activity in the progress bar. However, Real Player doesn't make sound, either.
I have never had this problem with 10.4.
What gives?

  • AirPort doesn't work after Leopard install

I have an iMac 20" 2GHz Core 2 Duo and my AirPort doesn't work. I reset my PRAM, erased the hard drive and installed a clean copy of Leopard after picking it up from the Retail store. I had exactly the same problem with 9A559 and the seed update and I ASSUMED it would be fixed by the time the final release is out. It doesn't detect any networks, even if i move the access point very close to the computer. I tried disabling all security on the access point. Tried changing channels. Tried resetting the access point to defaults and reconfiguring from scratch. Tried manually putting the SSID in on the iMac but none of it worked. The access point is a Linksys WAG54G with the latest firmware. If anyone can help me, please do because the AirPort is the ONLY way this computer can access the internet.

    Just to clarify my situation:

  • Canon MP 600 Printer not working after Leopard Install

I installed the Leopard OS and now my Canon MP 600 printer that purchased at the MAC store with my Mac in Aug of this year. It was working properly prior to the Leopard install. I tried re-installing the printer drivers, but no change. I can see my MP 600 as the only printer available. I am also unable to even print a 'test' page. When I run the Network Diagnostics everything is fine, but no printing.
    Any suggestions?

I tried this. I also tried updating the CUPS config file as was noted elsewhere. The printer is a total no-show on Leopard.
It is being served by an older G4 whose only job is to serve the printer.
On Tiger it would just *be there* to print to. All the Panther computers see it as a "shared printer" in the printer box.
In Leopard.... not a &^^&% thing.
    Not happy.

  • Touch doesn't work after clean install of Windows 7 Professional

I have an IQ526t.  I did a clean  install (remove drive/repartition/format drive) of Windows 7 Professional, and now the touchscreen feature doesn't work.  I've been on forums here and at Mirosoft, downloaded various drivers, rebooted multiple times, etc....no luck.  I get the sound, but no response.   Thoughts???

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you have removed the recovery drive and installed Windows 7 by not using the OEM version that came with your computer. You have a couple options here, first you can download and install the HP Support Assistant and let it download and install the software and drivers that came with your computer. You can alter the settings so that the updates are manually done giving you control over what gets updated and what does not. Or you can download and install the drivers and what software you want from HP TouchSmart IQ526t CTO Desktop PC Drivers page. The choice is yours.
***NOTE: Be warned that there is software that come with some of the computers that is ONLY available from the recovery drive so you may not see everything you are used to seeing. The only way of recoverying this software is through the HP Recovery Discs.
I hope I have addressed your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

    Hi -
I was wondering if you solved this problem. I had the exact same issue on Win2K after I installed the Java Portlet Development Kit. Now my Apache JServ does not work.
This is a sample of my error_log:
[Fri Jun 07 10:48:01 2002] [notice] FastCGI: process manager initialized
[Fri Jun 07 10:48:08 2002] [error] OPM:Can not find one alive process

[Fri Jun 07 10:51:22 2002] [warn] OPM: ADM: Process 380 terminated using SIGTERM successfully
I have re-checked my jserv.properties, jserv.conf, zone.properties several times and I can't see the problem. I tried to manually remove the entire PDK and go back to my original state (I saved a copy of all my config files) but it still doesn't work.
Did you find a way to fix this?
    Thanks!!!

  • Sound doesn't work after iOS 6 iPad 3

I had my Ipad 3 for about a month or two and it has been working flawlessly, but when I updated the os to iOS 6 the sound has stopped working.
Every time I restart the ipad makes the unlocking sound once but after that no more sound will come out. Even when I type it doesn't make a sound.
Also when I double tap the home button and go the brightness and music area there is no circle thing on the slider for the music part.
A few quick things worth mentioning, when I use my headphones I can hear the sound also Siri makes all the noises and can talk using the built in speakers.

I have also had this problem with my iPad 2. I actually spoke to folks on Apple Tech support and sent it in. The verdict? They admitted that it was a problem that others were experiencing as well, but they wouldn't diagnose MY iPad because I had a "cosmetic defect" on it and unless I wanted to shell out a few hundred bucks to get it fixed first, they wouldn't look at it, even though they also admitted that the sound problem had nothing to do with the cosmetic flaw.
I'd even buy that the cosmetic flaw had something to do with the problem had the speakers just died completely, but they don't! Sound on apps and video goes out intermittently and then comes back for no apparent reason; I can't duplicate the issue. Have done hard reset, restore, MANY TIMES. Keeps happening. AM running the latest software version. The volume slider just disappears completely from the screen but when I go into settings and adjust the volume, I can hear the ringtone volume. So the speaker works! I assume this is a major software issue.
Hey, Apple, you listening? Others have the problem and you know it. In my case, I think you just used a loophole to be a jerk and get around fixing my iPad. How about a software update?
Also, my iPad was less than a year old but by the time they fix this, it will probably be past the one year warranty mark. How convenient.

  • Eject button wont work after leopard install

Once i installed leopard my eject button stopped working on my G5. I have to restart the computer for it to work. Is there anyway to get it to work without having to restart it every time? Should i reinstall Leopard because im missing iphoto and a couple other programs since the first install so i dont know if im missing more?

just a thought .... Leopard uses the "soft" eject feature which requires you to hold down the eject for a second before the tray will open. Helps when you accidentally hit it.
i-Life, i.e., iPhoto,iWeb,iMovie, Garageband, doesn't come with Leopard, you now have to purchase these separate. Unless you buy an Apple computer.
    Hope this helps

  • Sync doesn't work after re-install

''locking this thread as duplicate, please continue at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1015872 /questions/1015872]''
I had sync working on my windows machine, and firefox was always up to date.
After re-installing windows I connected to my Sync straight away account and nothing is updating, no bookmarks, history, passwords, nothing.
No, I haven't upgraded to a new sync or old sync or anything like that, i didn't even know there were different ones. How do I get my data back and sync working again?

Sync isn't meant to be used as a backup device, but merely to sync data between multiple devices.
So it is not guaranteed that you can restore data from the Sync server.

  • The 7 key doesn't work after lion install

The 7 key on my MacBook pro keyboard doesn't work following lion installation. (I'm using my iPad right now obviously!)
When I press 7, basically random stuff will come out. A set of 3 to 5 random numbers or some "command" that whatever program I am in doesn't recognize.
I tried rebooting. I have no idea where to even begin, help!

And of course this morning all keys are back to working again! But last night it was 7, J, U gibberish.
At first glance it does seem like something that might be a hardware problem, but I am deeply suspicious of coincidences like this. I'm kind of like house md that way I guess.  Especially when at least two of us experienced this.
I think I will also wait for the next software update and see if that helps.  At least I have my iPad to use when the keys are on the fritz.
    Good luck!

  • Sound on OS X doesn't work after Soundflower install

Because of missing native equalizer on OS-X (Snow Leopard) I had to use third party app Soundflower in combination with AU Lab. Everything was going right, but once I restarted OS X, the sound stopped working. When I changed the volume by the keys on Macbook I hear the system sound, but in iTunes, Vimeo, some videos on YouTube, Quicktime, etc., I hear nothing.
I tried to remove Soundflower and AU Lab and reboot, but without any change.
After next OS X restart iTunes works right - I hear the sound. On some videos on YouTube sounds works too, but not on all videos. Vimeo videos still without sound.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

I tried to remove Soundflower and AU Lab and reboot, but without any change.
Did you also remove the plist files of those files from your Home Preferences folder?  And restart afterwards?
    Repair permissions & restart.

  • Macbook Pro Audio line in stopped working after Leopard install

Anyone know what's up with this? Since I installed Leopard (did an erase and install) my audio line in port isn't working although my built-in microphone is. Ideas? I haven't found a solution so far from my searches.

I also have this problem but with a slightly different twist..
I was using my plantronics (old ms gamevoice headset) with 10.5.2 and it worked, then installed the m-Audio Firewire Audiophile beta drivers and neither the audio-in or the m-audio audiophile line-in cause any VU-meter response (nor input) whereas the standard inbuilt microphone does.
After uninstalling the m-audio drivers the situation is still the same.
Oddly - if I plug in the headphones into the line-in (rather than microphone) then speak into them I actually get input audio (and VU-meter response) through the MBP's audio-in.
So the story about no power is used (hence the headphones create enough to register the sound) sounds about true... very annoying as I thought my old headset had died and went out and bought a new one.. that still doesn't explain the audiophile input issues..
Now I fully expect both companies to point fingers at each other.. I don't care - just get it fixed please.

  • Safari doesn't work after Yosemite install

I've recently installed Yosemite in my iMac*. Everything works as supposed except for Safari. Every time the computer wakes from sleep Safari does NOT work at all. It doesn't load any site. The only solution so far is to restart the iMac.
    any clues?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Boot keys stopped working after Leopard install

I have seen others having this problem in another thread but no answers, so thought I'd give it a go.
After reading these threads finally got Leopard to install and run okay. Many thanks all. But, along the way, my boot keys stopped working. It doesn't matter what I hold down, whether 'c' or 'cmd-opt-p-r' or 'shift' or any other key combination the machine just boots straight into Leopard.
I have tried resetting the PMU (or whatever it is these days) via the internal button in desperation but still no luck.
    Anyone with any ideas?

Same problem here, so I'll pull this post up. No key works.
I always have to go to the Start Drive (or whatever it's called in english) in Preferences Panes and choose the partition I wish to start directly in OSX or Windows for booting back to OSX. This is very annoying. Alt key won't show up any possible boot disk although their both internal drives.
If someone would kindly post any ideas how to change that, would be great. I've done a fresh install, with a Time Machine recovery, but this didn't seem to help.
    EDIT:
I found another subjet here from november '07:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1224639
it seems the new Apple Keyboard is the origin of the Problem on iMac Core Duo. Apple techs said that a new firmeware should be coming before the end of 2007 (but it's february 2008 now ?!?). Any other ideas how to get this work ? I'll write on Aplpe feedback page for sure. Maybe the other boot keys aren't working because of this keyboard too.

  • ISight Camera not working after Leopard install

On my 1st gen Intel 20" iMac, after the Leopard upgrade -- which went very smoothly -- my iSight camera no longer works. I have tried it in Photo Booth and iChat Video and it is the same in each, so it is the camera, apparently, not the application using it.
In the self-viewing screen on my iMac, I see myself for just a second or so, then I fade out quickly and there is nothing to see but black. If I shine a desk lamp in my face, then I can just barely see the outline of my image but the picture is mostly black. It seems like an exposure problem: the camera seems to adjust, shutting down as though I am very brightly lit but since I am not, it produces only a black picture.
I also have a 1st gen Intel white MacBook that I have also upgraded to Leopard. The iSight camera seems to work just fine on that computer. I tried out the video in Photo Booth and it worked great.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I too am having the same problem, and I'm using the old school iSight camera and immediately after installing Leopard, it won't work. I can't even power up the camera. It will power up for about 3 seconds then power down as fast as the little green light came on. It was fine about an hour before the 10.5 install. I powered down and unplugged everything for about 10 mins. then plugged it all back in, and still not working. So I am back to the drawing board trying to sort this out. If anyone has anymore thoughts on this, pls. chime in. All the suggestions seem to work for you folks after a little tweak. I even booted into OF mode and reset-nvram and reset-all for kicks to give it an even fresher start.
    thanks!

  • Photo Booth not working after Leopard install

I have a mac mini and a ViewSonic VX2235wmb (LCD with a usb web cam built in). Before installing Leopard, the web cam worked with iChat and Photo Booth, without the need for any additional drivers. After installing Leopard, iChat works, but not Photo Booth. Here's what I get when I open the app:
    http://www.davidsilva.net/photobooth.png
I've tried the 3rd party driver apps, but I get the same results. Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem with the ViewSonic VX2255wmb (LCD with a usb web cam built in).
On Leopard it works fine with iChat, but does the same squiggly mess as your snapshot when run with Photo Booth.
