Sound please help!

I purchased a 3.5mm headphone to RCA so i can play sound from my mac through my tv.
I plan on buying a mini dvi to S-video soon but i would like to figure out my sound problem first.
Problem: When i plug it into my mac it says that it is now in headphone mode(so at least its recognizing it) My tv on the other hand does nothing. I try to play a song and nothing. No sound. What am I doing wrong

apparently it is a tv issue. I guess it need to have all three plugs in the tv at once otherwise it will not work. I cannot have "just audio" it will work in my parents room or living room where we have newer tv's. would buying the mini dvi to s-video fix it perhaps?it is kind of aggravating

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

Is the volume muted? Click on the volume icon in the system tray to see if it shows as muted. If that's the case, I know of a workaround to fix this because if you unmute the speakers now, the condition will come back when you reboot your computer. I don't know the exact steps off the top of my head at the moment as I'm not in front of my machine. Check this first and reply if muting was the problem and I will detail the steps needed to fix the problem.

MUFFLED SOUND PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I have put some movies onto itunes on Mac (os x) and can play them fine through itunes.
When i play it through apple tv the picture is there and some of the sound. The actors/actresses voices only come through very quietly and can't hear it.
I have tried everything i have read on these boards including restarting and changing settings! its driving me crazy!!
PLEASE HELP!!

Try:

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

WEIRD SOUND PLEASE HELP

my mac pro is making a cough-like sound at random times. i think it might be a notification sound but i can't seem to figure out what it is, and it's starting to get really annoying. ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE? PLEASE HELP!

You computer model number or year? Version of OS X you're running? You said in the original post that these sounds are at random times, so I'll assume this isn't due to some sound effect setting in System Preferences. Open up the Console (in Launchpad > Utilities assuming you're running Lion) and select All Messages. If there is a common entry that appears in Console at the same time these noises are produced, report back what it is and someone may be able to help you. If not, I'm mystified - hardware problem?

There are a few things you can try.
1) try another outlet in another room (different circuit group) to see if the sound is still present.
2) If you are using a power protection device between your PC and the outlet and it is old replace it with a new one.
Even replacing the motherboard generally won't cure this issue as it isquite likely to be related to a problem in the (earthing) grounding and wiring in your home.

First try a Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the Steps in this article to force the device into Recovery Mode.

My macbook pro is making a weird sound, please help?

i have an early 2011 model, it was running soo fine until now.
its making a weird sound, to describe, it sounds like a small *trrr* at normal state, and at high, intense states, (playing games..) it turns into a loud *trrrrrr*, but, if i hit it gently over the keyboard, it goes away, then comes back.
please, i dont have an apple retail store in my country, i need help from here, help me.

first thing to do is to buy a new hard drive and an external drive before it fails so you won't lose your files.
once you've done that, put the new hard drive in the external drive and open disk utility.
format/erase your new hard drive as MAC OS EXTENDED Journaled.
After that has been done, open carbon copy (if you don't have it, you can download it for free).
Once carbon copy is open, click on clone your hard drive. Source drive is what you're using now and your target drive is your new hard drive.
Once carbon copy is done, turn off your macbook, open the back of your macbook, take off the hard drive and install your new hard drive.
After you've done all those, turn your macbook back on and you're back in business.

Muffeled sound, please help!

My ipod works perfectly fine except for the fact that if i try to listen to it with headphones the sound is all muffled and broken like. I've tried many different headphones thinkign it might be them but its not. Who knows how to fix. Please help

to prove that it's not the headphones, try them in different devices. If it's not them, try the 5 Rs:

NO SOUND, please help

A while ago I started experiencing problems with my sound card (SigmaTel C-Major Audio). At first it started distorting the sound but after reinstallation of the sound driver (using Tools & Utilities CD-ROM) the problem was fixed for a short period of time when it started doing this again and I kept reinstalling the driver. Eventually, however, I completely lost the sound and when I checked in the Device Manager there was a problem with my sound card (yellow exclamation mark) and under Device Status it said (still does) "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to fix this by myself (and how) or I have to take the laptop to an ASP?

Hi Miro. Thanx for the reply.
I did try (twice) what you recommended, unfortunately to no avail. The first time after restart the sound card was not detected (there was no message that new hardware is found) and there was again a yellow circle next to the sound card in device manager, and still the same message (This device cannot start). I uninstalled it again and after the second restart the sound card was no longer in device menager, obviously it failed to detect it again.
I don't know about you, but I have a funny feeling that the sound card does not make good contact with the mother board, and that the problem is on a hardware basis. The other day after I switched on the laptop the sound card did start ok and I could once again listen to music. However, that wasn't for long and after I hibernated and then dehibernated it the sound was gone again. It's very weird, insn't it?
Any suggestions what I can do next?

Macbook Pro and high-pitch sound, please help!

     I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch that is almost brand new. I just got it 3 months ago for my birthday. About a month or two with my new computer I started hearing a high-pitch sound comming from the computer. The sound only lasts about 3-6 seconds and it goes of at random times. It might make the noise 5 times in one day but then it might go away for 3 days, totally random. The sound comes if the computer is sitting there or is being used. After about 3 months of this going off I deceided to bring it to the Apple store in New Haven, CT. Does anyone have the same problem?
     After bringing my computer in and telling them the problem, they tested in for about 30 minutes. Everything was fine. No fan problem or hardrive problem. I brought the computer back home and within 3 days the sound is back. I drove to the Apple store again told them my problem,again, and they did they same test with no results. Brought it back home, noise is still there. This time im starting to get angry, they arent offering any solution. I bring it back and they take it for about 48 hours and do a extensive check. Nothing was found. I bring it home again and the noise is still there. My father and I went to Apple pretty angry and told them that we appreciate the time they take but something really needs to be done. They have sent it out for 3-5 days and we are awating a phone call to see whats wrong.
     I am hoping that they find something or if they dont can they can replace my computer? I am not spending hours of my own time and gas money going back and forth to Apple for no reason..the Genius bar guys have been no help telling us basically that we are lying and that there is nothing wrong when clearly there is. What can I do? Has anyone had this same noise come from their computer? I really appreciat everyone that decideds to throw some input in. Thank you so much.

Make a recording of the sound so the next time you take it in you can let them hear it. It might be best to do a video of the unit so the sound is combined with pictures/video of the computer so they know the sound is coming from it.
IMHO the guys at the B-bars are just about useless for this type of thing. If it isn't a bad drive, HDD or DVD, and the system seems to run OK (actually even if it doesn't run OK but runs at all) they will say "Everything looks OK". Or if the thing is dead they can help. That help will be "You need a new HDD" "You need a new DVD drive" "You need a new Logic board" and that's about it.

Recording issues with sound PLEASE HELP

Hi I am currently trying to record a home movie from VHS to DVD.
Playing the tape via the InterVideo MSIPVS program I have excellent video and sound. now here is where my problem lies.
When select to record from the program it records the video perfectly but not the audio. I am just curious as to what the problem maybe. I looked in the record tab on the setup menu and it gives me the option to select the video input source but not the audio input source. I have the audio input selected in the device tab and this allows me to hear the tape that is being played on my computer.
I have read a few of the forum posts and none really seem to cover this problem. I am just curious if there is something I may have missed or done wrong on install that may have caused this.
Currently running :

1gig Ram
TV@anywhere Master
Geforce 5600XT
onboard sound
Win 2k Service pack 4
DirectX 9c
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I am about to throw this thing in the wood stove and light it.

I have exactly the same problem!
Record video and on playback only get picture.
Strangley I have noticed that if I pause and dont shut MSIPVS then sound on the recorded file will play. But, if you shut down the programme you dont get sound with the picture. Also if you do this you get a file TShift in the folder where the recorded file is stored.

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.

You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

Recorded Sound, please help

I shot a movie recently, and since the audio we recorded on some of the scenes sucked, we dubbed a few of them.
Some of these scenes take place outside, but we dubbed them in a small room and when the recorded sound is placed over the scene, it sounds and looks a little fake, mainly b/c you can kind of hear the voices bounce off the walls in the room we recorded them in.
Is there ANYTHING I can do In Soundtrack Pro to help fix this? Anything?

If there's a lot of reverb (echo), it won't be easy. You should have been careful and recording your VO with as little ambience as you could. Anyway, try using Space Designer plugin. There's lot of environnements simulations there.

All of a sudden no sound - please help

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit version with a X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro card and all of a sudden I noticed I don't have any sound coming from my speakers anymore and when I in iTune for example press the play button to play a song the play button changes to a pause button indicating the play button has been pressed but I don't get any sound and the time counter showing where in the song I am is not moving but just stays at 0 seconds into the song. When I press the pause button it returns to a play button again. I haven't changed anything in my system when it comes to drivers etc before this happened, it happened all by itself sort of speak. The only thing I could think of that might have caused this is if some automatic Microsoft updates for Vista 64-bit got installed affecting the Creative drivers for my sound card.
If I go into Vista's?sound settings I see my X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro card in there and it is reported to be?working but if I click configure and then press the Test button which normally cycles a tone between my speakers (I have a 5. speaker system) same thing happens as in iTunes ie the play button goes into a stop button indicating?it has been pressed but no sound?is coming from any speaker and then when I press the Stop button it returns to a Test button again. I have also checked in Device Manager for any problems but no exclamation marks or anything else strange in there - everything looks normal.
I have tried re-installing the drivers?but still same problem, I have also tried removing all the Creative drivers all together running in Safe Mode in Vista and then reinstall them once again but still no go. The only way for me to get sound from my X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro card right now is by unstalling the Creative drivers and instead use Windows Vista's built-in drivers identifying the sound card as a 'High definition audio device' and this way the sound is working just fine with sound coming from all speakers. Of course I could stay with using Vista's default driver since this is working but it would still be nice to be able to use the real Creative drivers for my card and I by not using them I guess I'm also missing lots of other functionality I get with using the real Creative software and drivers.
Anyone else seen this or has a clue what might be wrong?here?

Sounds similar but still not the same issue I guess because I have the problem regardless what application I'm using, I don't even get the internal Windows sounds when I have the Creative drivers installed.
Feels strange not more people have the same problem if it's caused by a Microsoft update so maybe that's not the case after all...can't understand though what might have caused it if not that?since I haven't done anything to my computer's config lately and this problem with the sound happened from one day to the other...hmm...
