Sound question.  Adobe Connect and MacBook Pro.

A colleague will be presenting a webinar using a MacBook Pro and I will be facilitating from our office.  This is the third in a series she is doing and we have had no problems in the past.  However, when we did our dry run yesterday I could hear her but she could not hear me.  She is currently travelling in Europe, so I tested the sound on another colleague's laptop (also a MacBook) and there were no problems.  Any ideas as to why my colleague in Europe could not hear me?  She said her speakers were on and she was not using a headset.

Hi,
I have purchased CS3 and I have a G5 Tower and a MBP dual 2 core (bought it 2 months ago)
Let me tell you that I am very unpleased with CS3 on both machines.
On the G5 it is 10 times slower than CS1 for some reason it takes a lot of processing power and RAM wich the G5 does poorly.
On the MBP it processes fine but I only have 1 Gig of RAM and I feel that I don't have enough. Plus it doesn't help that a laptop HD is slower at opening files so it really makes it look like it runs slow...I should of bought the 24in imac instead due to the fact that it doesn't cost 900$ to buy a extra 2 Gigs of RAM
and the HD is faster

  • No sound when I connect my Macbook pro (2012) to TV via HDMI!

Hi! I have a problem with the sound when I connect my Macbook pro (bought in 2012) to a Phillips HD TV. The strange thing is that it only happens with some videos (specially youtube videos) but the sound works perfectly with films and audio files I have in my computer, and also when I watch TV online (Eurosport player for instance and other similar applications). It's even stranger because it doesn't happen all the time; last week I tried many times to watch some youtube videos and after unplugging the HDMI cable it seemed to work. As I said, with Eurosport player and many films downloaded in my macbook I don't have this problem (sound is ok all the time), and this is why I'm really confused. I suppose it's not a connection problem, otherwise I wouldn't have sound in any video, right? I've tried two different HDMI's cables but nothing has changed. Please, someone help me, as I can't figure out what's happening. Thank you very much!

Well Im not sure what the fix is for your problem, but can you please open up the sound preference next time you connect the philips tv, and make sure that sound output is set to hdmi out. Then try and play your video's etc and see if they are affected.
I can tell you I get a similar problem when, for example, I have a youtube window open and then connect the external display. The youtube video will not sound out through the cable, however if i refresh the window it works. Also the same when I use bluray player on mac, I have to close it and open it again for the sound to output through the external monitor.

  • Adobe CS5 and Macbook Pro Retina Display

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro Retina Display notebook. Before I got it, I didn't realize what an effect it would have on my existing programs, and had I known, I would have thought twice before switching. I have never had so many problems with a brand new computer. It seems absurd to me that Apple would introduce a product that was not supported by so many important software platforms, Adobe Creative Suite and Acrobat Pro included.
I have Adobe CS5 and was not planning on upgrading to CS6. It is too expensive and I am a poor PhD student with lots of work to finish. Now when I use my CS5 applications, I see the images in very poor quality. The program will not let me change the "Open in Low Resolution" settings as the button is disabled. I do not know how to make it look better or what to do. I cannot work using this low resolution. It hurts my eyes and I cannot see the lines properly to be able to adjust my drawings.
    What can I do?

    Hi Rossco,
    You're right, the program works and the content produced is unaffected. My rationale to get the program work environment to be Retina compatible includes;
Visual clarity. For reading glasses wearers such as myself, the blockyness can be frustrating. But regardless of middle aged disability, it just looks better when a program is Retina compatible.
It's a major component of my work environment, so making the most of the computer's assets is important to me.
It (OK, this is the emotional statement Rossco ;-)) frustrates me that an Educational program fails to take advantage of a computer type very commonly used in Ed departments. And Retina is not new, nor a passing fad.
Adobe do commit to Retina compatibility, evidenced by Acrobat updated recently. Captivate please!!??
    Best regards
    Nick

  • Keynote question for iPad and MacBook Pro

I am currently using keynote on my MacBook Pro.  Do I need to download keynote for my iPad if I want to create presentations for the iPad, as some of the transitions in the laptop version do not translate tot he iPad.  Can both versions of keynote live on my MacBook Pro in the event that I create the presentations on the laptop using the iPad version and transfer to my iPad for the presentation?

The pad version is different than the mac version ... Different ios.  If you want to create on the pad, you need the pad version.  But understand that some of the features of the full blown mac app do not work on the pad.

  • Connecting my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) and listening to Multichannel surround sound.

    Dear all,
I am attempting to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) via the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI. I have successfully connected the two devices and can select "SONY TV XV" in the sound preference pane. I can see and hear what I'd like, however, I can only monitor the sound in 2 channel stereo. I have my TV connected to a Sony 7.1 audio receiver via an optical cable and can monitor 7.1 sound via other sources (Blu-ray, broadcast, etc). When I go into the Audio Midi Setup utility, I am unable to configure my speakers to be anything but 2 channel stereo. I am given the options for "2ch-16bit", "2ch-20bit", "2ch-24bit" and "Encoded Digital Audio". When I select "Encoded Digital Audio", my output automatically changes to Built-in Output. Has anyone been able to successfully resolve this issue? Thanks for all your help!

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

I have tested it with the Moshi (http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/moshi-mini-dp-to-hdmi-adapter-with-a udio-support) and Belkin (http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA342ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adap ter) adapters, both purchased from the Apple Store with no such luck. Have you or anyone else had success with any other third-party adapters?

  • Connecting my macbook pro to my panasonic viera tv - no picture or sound

Hi there, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to my panasonic viera tv by using an HDMI chord and a Thunderbolt mini displayport, but I can't seem to get it to work. Im just getting a screen saver, not even the same screen saver I currently have set on my macbook either. PLEASE HELP! I'm clueless with all this kind of stuff!
    Thank you!

It sounds like you haven't switched your TV to its HDMI1 input.  HDMI1is not a channel (as in a TV channel) ... it's an input.  If you are clicking the channel buttons you will never get to your HDMI1 input.
On your TV remote there is a button that says "Input" ... click it and then use the up/down arrow keys to select HDMI1.   Note, to go back to regular TV channels you will have to click the Input button again and select 'TV.'

  • Connecting my MacBook Pro to my DVD Surround Sound Speakers?

I'm a student filmmaker in the UK and pretty much do all my video editing from my bedroom using Final Cut Studio. I am using a MacBook Pro3,1 (bought in 2007) and have recently decided that I want to start working in 5.1 surround sound.
As I have no surround sound speakers with my MacBook Pro, I was wondering if it would be possible to connect it up to my DVD surround sound system? This would ultimately save me having to buy a compatible set and having two lots of surround sound speakers around my room...
My DVD player is a Panasonic SC-PT150. The 6 surround sound speakers each connect to it through the standard +/- "clip-in" wire set up (which, obviously isn't compatible with my MacBook Pro). There are also two AUX sockets (one for Left and one for Right) on the back of the DVD player. So far, I have tried connecting my MacBook Pro to these sockets using a Mini plug to RCA cable, however, all I get is an incredibly loud humming noise.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might, either overcome this problem or, get the setup to work another way? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks both of you for your help.
It doesn't mention either of those connections in the manual, however, yes you are right, it takes digital input. I'll have to call and check if the toslink cable is compatible.
I tried connecting the mini-stereo-to-RCA cable to my Nokia phone (which is actually where the cable came from) and that plays through the DVD speakers just fine, when i select AUX mode. Although, as you said, it only plays stereo.
Say the mini-toslink cable is compatible, would I need to get a 5.1 surround sound card for my MBP?
    Thanks again.

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • Connecting G4 and Macbook Pro

I think this is a basic question and hoping the solution is something simple. I currently use a wireless connection for the internet and printer for my G4 and Macbook Pro. I want to connect the two computers together so I can share files, since they are large I don't want to do it over the Airport. Is there another way. Can I connect the two computers using an Ethernet cord?

That means that it's not seeing your server. Verify that you have the correct name and/or IP and have the correct slashes(/, NOT \) and have colons where they should be and not where they shouldn't be. If you're connecting by name, make sure that you don't have spaces and that you do have the '.local' at the end of the name. I'd use the IP address if I were you.
Also, it might be a good idea to ensure that both machines are on the same network. If they're both plugged into a wired router, and that router has DHCP on, and both are set to use DHCP, then they should be on the same network. If they're just connected directly to each other and don't have a DHCP server live, then either one of them must be configured as a DHCP server (in other words, Internet Sharing must be turned on) or both of them must be set up using fixed IPs. It would be a very good idea to set the fixed IPs in one of the private IP ranges, and to put both machines into the same range. Example: set one to 192.168.0.10 and the other to 192.168.0.12.

  • (Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.

Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening.

With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
    Something you can try:
    System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
    Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to.

  • I am battling to connect my MacBook Pro to my new Samsung D7000 Smart tv. Both the tv and the macbook are on the same wireless network. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

How do I connect my macbook pro to my samsung smart tv its the D7000 and has all share?

My suggestion is to get the magic trackpad, magic keyboard and magic wand and connect a DVI to HDMI cable and use the MBP in clamshell (closed) mode. This will allow you to run 1080P into the TV and essentially use the Samsung as a HUGE monitor. At that point you can use the TV itself to display whatever you want off the laptop or simply switch inputs and stream stuff out of smarthub as usual. I tried to connect mine via allshare (by the way samsung has the free allshare download of software for the PC but not the mac.) and while i DID have some succes (under windws) i had to run a non secure connection and in the end the cool factor wasn't worth the hassle, to me anyway. It was sort of a "cool i did it" now why bother..... Hope this helps.

Assuming your MBP is a recent model, i.e. bought in the last couple of years, and that your TV has HDMI inputs (if you've bought it new then that's a safe assumption) then you need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable.  The Apple Store sell one:

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?

How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?  I assume I would need to use the DVI to Video adapter that came with my computer to connect to my LCD tv.  I'm just not sure which port I should use on the TV.  The HDMI port is being used for digital cable.
Also, does anyone know if this can be done wirelessly?

For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI
