Sound volume reset on restart.

Has anyone else notice that every time you restart the next boot up resets your volume to half way. I’m not sure I can really call it a bug but it is annoying.
I never had this issue with regular Leopard. Can any one else confirm their machine doing the same thing.

  • Sound volume resets at reboot since upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard

Hi, i upgraded my computers this week end (iMac, macbook, mini) from Tiger to Snow Leopard. All went great except one little bug : the sound volume resets at each reboot, for example on the iMac it is always at minimum after each reboot. This occurs on all 3 computers.
Do you meet the same "problem"? Do you know any solution except the clean install?
    Thanks

Also, if you hold shift when clicking the volume, you can recalibrate your alert sounds level in the same way. At last, now my mac chimes at a civil level when I switch it on!
This doesn't work for me, but what it does do is play the alert volume feedback "pop" when that option is deselected in the Audio system preference & not play it when the option is selected. Thank you for that, even if it wasn't what was intended. Since I sometimes work with Macs connected to high power sound systems, it is good to know about -- you can't imagine how loud the "pop" can be until you hear it through a 20,000 watt concert PA!

  • My system sound volume resets to 100%  at shut down.  Why? And how can I fix it? Tried PRAM

Just in the past few days my iMac has decided it needs to reset its system sound volume to 100#% every time I shut it down, so it can blast me off my chair when I start it up next.  No amount of adjusting the volume, from system prefs or menu bar will keep it where I want it.  Tried resetting PRAM and system manager.  Nothing.  It just will not hold the volume setting.
Has anyone got any ideas for fixing this?
I'm using Lion - it isn't on the choice list of OSs.

Well gee thanks Baltwo, but I don't need instruction in the use of drop-down menus.  Had my OS been listed when i hit the drop-down, I'd surely have hit on my OS had it been there.
But it wasn't, you see..  Why? I don't know.  Perhaps the display problem I've benn having with my iMac since last August.  The display problem that the geniuses at my local Apple store can't fix because they can't decide if my machine needs a new  Vcard or not.  But they can sure keep my computer for a week playing with it and charging me for  it.
Sorry, but I'm tired of zero help from Apple with issues and irrelevant rsponses to my requests for help.

  • Mac Sound Volume Resetting?

I have just got myself a new Mini Mac and I have been setting it up for past few days. So far the only odd thing I have noticed is that every time I restart or shut down the volume will reset back to about 60% even though I have turned it up or down, is this normal or is there some setting that I have missed somewhere?
Its not really much of a problem just a bit annoying as I have to turn up the volume each time I open up iTunes.
Has any one else had this problem or is there some strange Unix command I can tweak somewhere?
    Cheers for any help!

    Here is a solution/workaround.
    1. Open up Script Editor.
    2. Type in the following:
    set volume 7
    3. Save as type "application" with the name "SetVolumeToMax" (or similar).
    4. Open up System Preferences->Accounts->Login Items.
    5. Add your new script as a hidden login item.
Possible volume values are in the range 0 to 7.

  • OUTPUT volume resets to high after reboot

I turn the OUTPUT volume down then shut the computer off but when I boot it up the OUTPUT volume is hi again. I have reset pram, repaired permissions and still the same.
Must be a pref bad somewhere.
There are no stuck keys on the keyboard

It may be a bug, but it obviously does not affect everyone. It does not happen on my older Intel iMac. And there is a +Early 2009+ Mac mini in the house, 2.0 GHz (same as and in Dah•veed's profile); it does not happen on it either.
When you did the test of setting volume low (or muted) with external speakers disconnected, and restarting with the external speakers disconnected, was the startup sound from the built-in speakers low (or muted), or was it already reset and loud. This will better determine when the volume reset takes place. If it's already loud, then it takes place during the previous logoff and actions that take place before restarting (or shutting down), or during the initial few seconds of startup (before the startup sound). If it's still low (or muted), then the sound volume reset takes place at some point after the startup sound, but before startup completes.
As another test, if you set the volume low, then log out and log back in (instead of restarting), does the volume stay low or does it get reset to the higher volume.
And as one more test, create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. Go to System Preferences Accounts pane and set it for +Automatic login+ (If you don't use automatic login normally, then you don't need to set it). Now try doing the same test, except from this account instead of your normal account. Is there any difference in the volume setting being retained?

  • Why do my sound output settings keep resetting after restart?

Just bought a MBPro with OS 10.6.4.
After restarting my sound output settings keep resetting to Soundflower (2ch) from Internal speakers.
It doesn't take too much to change it, but it is pretty annoying and I'm assuming there's some obscure setting that can fix this.
    Anyone able to help?

This fixed it on my Mac Pro. It might work on a MacBook Pro.
    Delete these three files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist
    /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Reselect whatever sound device you want as your default in the Sound Preference Pane.
    Restart the computer.

  • Hi,I have 4s,I have a problem since 2days that the ring tone, lock sound, password sound, volume button and slide, calls flash, all sometimes working and sometimes not,plz help me to solve this problem.thanks

    HI
i have iPhone 4s with iOS 8.1.3 , since 2 days I'm facing a problem that the ring tone, lock button sound, password sound, volume buttons, slide volume and incoming call flash,
all these not working properly , sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not, I tried to restart the phone many times but I didn't fix the problem
plz help me to solve this problem

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • Self changing sound volume

For some unknown reason the volume setting on my mini seems to randomly want to change all by itself. I normally like to have the system volume set to 75% (12 out of 16 spots on the scale) and change the volume through a set of speakers, although every now and then I find that it's reduced by itself to 56% (9 out of 16 spots). The drop in volume is awfully consistent.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or is this a "safety" feature so that will maximise sound volume between restarts or something.

I pondered that although if that were the case all Macs that come with FrontRow would show the same behaviour.
My best guess is that it's like my mother's car stereo. Everytime you turn off the engine the stereo will reset itself to a lower volume to ensure that the next time you turn it on your ears aren't blasted out. Given the higher likelihood that a Mac mini is connected to a home stereo/cinema unit this might be Apple's thinking.
    Who knows… it's just annoying as ****!

  • Cannot adjust ear piece sound volume while Incoming call

Receiving an imcoming call with ear-piece plugged, the sound volume becomes maximum and cannot be adjusted from both ear-piece and iPhone side button.
Playing music, the sound volume is normal and ear-piece and side button are adjustable.
Thank you and look forward solutions.

From the iPhone user manual, Restarting or resetting iPhone
If something isn’t working right, try restarting iPhone, force quitting an app, or resetting iPhone.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the On/Off button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
If you can’t turn off iPhone or if the problem continues, you may need to reset iPhone. A reset should be done only if turning iPhone off and on doesn’t resolve the problem.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold both the On/Off button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Sound volume

    Hi,
I originally asked this question in the tiger discussion, but didn't receive an answer.
Is it possible to reset the audio on my mac so that the sound volume of audio and video clips and movies is raised? I regularly encounter video with audio volume that is too low, even at its maximum, and even though I have the volume level in System Preferences set to the maximum. I find the problem in iTunes, DVDs, QT, and YouTube, etc.
    Thanks, Caoim

With QT movies and iTunes songs you can boost the volume in the individual file's prefs. But for the system (your PB) you can not. Your only option is to buy a pair of external speakers.

  • Volume Resets to Loud When Starting Up

Each time I startup my computer, the volume is always too loud—usually all but 3 of the blocks in the volume bar are white. Normally it was the same level of volume at which I left it when I shut it down.
I have tried resetting my PRAM to resolve the problem, as I read that stores volume information, but it didn't make a difference.
I haven't made any hardware changes to my computer that would coincide with the change. The last change I made was getting a new battery, but that was a few months before this started happening.
Any ideas? Your help is very much appreciated!

After thinking about this...to be honest. You'll have to download the video edit the sound volume and do a save...

  • IPod Mini sound/volume is as soft as a mouse now

    PLEASE HELP!
I have just got a replacement set of earphones sent to me by apple because the original one just stopped working all of the sudden. I noticed that my iPod mini's sound/volume is about 50% softer than when I originaly got it. I've tried using euPOD and goPOD and also the slider trick but it still doesn't take the volume back to the good old days. I know that it is probably because of the stupid new 26-03-2006 update with the volume limit on it, but i've also tried restoring the iPOD but to no avail either. I've tried everything already and nothing has worked. Does anybody know how I can get around this or I'll just have to throw my Mini in the trash and never buy anything from apple again! I also noticed that the volume slider doesn't actualy change the volume loudness until it gets past halfway.....so it doesn't actualy get softer or louder until I'm about halfway thru. I can't see why apple would want to implement such a ridiculous limit on what was essentialy a very good product.

    Gary,
There is a lot I don't know yet, but I definitely managed to raise the volume by cutting off the sound check and the equalizer when importing new stuff. As a test, I can now hear the words in an audiobook, although the volume is still on maximum for my iPod and car tape player. Unfortunately the old stuff still sounds too faint. (Is this iPod actually updating?)
There is a problem with my car tape player. I haven't bought a head cleaning kit yet, but plan to do so. I connected an FM transmitter and tested the sound -- it was a lot louder. (In my area, I cannot use an FM transmitter in the city because of FM interference. No empty stations. So I either need earphones or to make the tape player work. Or a new car
I don't know yet whether it's the Sound Check or Equalizer that makes the difference. I don't think I ever used Sound Enhancer.
You can raise the volume by selecting songs, going to "Get Info" and resetting the volume bar. This seems to make it louder on the Mac speakers. I cannot tell that anything is getting through to the iPod -- I simply don't hear it yet.
I don't know yet if importing when using Sound Check does anything permanent to the volume of the song. I hope not.

  • Volume resets to full when download finishes while viewing in browser

While viewing a Quicktime movie in a browser (either Safari or Firefox), if I set the volume while the file is still downloading, once it has finished downloading it always resets to full volume. It's little bit annoying. Anybody have any ideas why or how to fix it? I had a search of the other threads but couldn't find anything... is this only happening to me?

  • Low sound volume Sat-Pro C650-EZ1524D

Can not get volume up to acceptable level even with all volume controls at 100%.
Downloaded Toshiba Audio Enhancement and it only slightly helped.  Any suggestion or ideas on how to fix this?  I know it is an easy fix, however, I can't figure it out. Thank you for your help in advance...I appreciate it.
    Cliff

You should uninstall the 2 audio enhancement programs that comes preinstalled on your toshiba laptop. I just bought a satellite p70-a and i had the same issue with the sound volume being too low. Once I uninstall the two audio enhancement programs and restarted the computer, my volume was way louder.

  • HT201412 iphone will not reset or restart. Help!

Hi! I seem to have frozen my iphone. I'm not sure how but it froze and I can't reset or restart it. Any one help?

    Hi there Jennas27,
It sounds like your phone is not turning on at all at this point. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article about that kind of an issue. It also has information on reaching out to Apple if needed:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
