Soundfonts on the E-Mu 1212m

i'm newbie to the 1212m card and i was wondering if this card supports the use of soundfonts. also, does this card need a seperate midi module to generate gm sounds? i don't want to always have to use midi plug-ins or softsynths (i.e. dxi, vst, yamaha-xg, etc.) to play back gm, cpu strain
i've used sb live cards in the past that not only support sounfonts but also play midi just fine. it seems pointless to me for the 1212m (which costs more than the most of the live cards) to be unable to play gm sounds. then again that could be the inner newbie talking. if anyone can help me out, i would appreciate it!

I am on the same quest as you for the EMU 0404 card. It is odd that these cards do not support SoundFonts.
I have found links to a SFZ plugin that supposedly supports the use of SoundFonts through a plug in mode. See http://www.productionforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=447
I have not tried this since the card is supplied with soft synth (Proteus LE) that sounds okay anyway.
I am curious as to what the advantages of the soundfonts are if you have a Proteus LE type software?

What I would like to know any issues with the card drivers installation when the Audigy is in the pc, I would grateful for any tips and tricks with the above items as I am sick of audigy messing up all the time.
    Thanks in advance.
P.S. I will be using it with Cubase 5, can't afford the upgrade at this moment.

Ok what I did I had a spare drive, got some caddies and installed windows on the other drive plus the 1212M card, the only thing is whenever I use the other drive, it asks me for drivers to the audigy, is there anyway I can stop it looking for the drivers on boot up, oh yeah and I optimised windows for DAW. Appart from that the 1212M is working fine, just got to learn the software.

  • Sft soundfonts with multiple voices; can only access the default.

Does anyone have any idea how I can access anything but the first instrument in a sf2 soundfont in GB? My midi controller (m-audio 61-es) can't seem to do, When I use the standard procedure for changing voices, anything past the first voice gives me nada.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Elanb,
I believe the demo version will only allow you to access a few octaves of any particular soundfont. The full paid version will access all octaves of a soundfont set. As far as volume is concerned I do not believe that is a function of Soundfont Synth in any way. Volume changes are more than likely to be the individual characteristic of whatever soundfont set you have accessed. The quality of soundfont vary from really bad to really good.
With soundfont synth you can access a particular soundfont set and then make that instrument a new saved preset. Name it and it will appear in your instrument list.
Hopefully GB3 will have a feature that does what Soundfont Synth does.

  • New sound card (E-MU 1212M) won't record higher than 48kHz

I'm running Windows XP Pro/SP2 with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor (motherboard is Elitegroup 848P-A). I have 1GB of RAM installed.
I do a lot of vinyl transfer work. I decided to upgrade sound cards to the E-MU 1212M to improve the overall quality of my audio.
The card install went well. I'm receiving an audio signal just fine. I can playback at 44.1, 48, 96, 192.
The only hitch is when I try to record. I can record at 44.1 & 48 but if I try to record at 96 or 192 I get the following message:"Another application has caused a sample rate change that makes the current session invalid. You may accept this change by loading session at the new sample rate indicated below...." The sample rate that it shows me is always 44.1 So when receiving this message it always wants to push me back to 44.1 This message pops up immediately after I hit the red "record" button.
There are no other audio applications similar to Audition installed on my set up. I have turned off the system sounds, the 1212M card is recognized as the default audio device. The on-board sound card has been disabled along with its drivers. Gone also are the drivers from my previous sound card.
The settings between the 1212M and Audition are following along with each other. If I set the 1212M for 44.1, 48, 96, or 192 and then open up Audition and check the hardware settings, its at whatever I had set the 1212M to.
Ive also gone through what items are being loaded during start-up of my computer. Ive tried disconnecting from the internet and shutting down all programs that might be active, ensuring that no other programs are running other than Au 3 and the 1212M PatchMix panel.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your time.
    -DLedin

"Before you did that, did you start a new session at 96k, and it still won't record into it? "
If you're asking if I first start a new session in PatchMix, yes, that's correct. I call up the 96k session in PatchMix first. Then I go and open up Audition to try to record.
If you're asking me if I start a new session in Audition 3 first, then I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. Remember, I'm new to Au 3. When working in Audition 1.5, I could hit the "record" button and a window would pop up, prompting me to enter a sample rate and bit depth for the audio I'm about to record. I enter what I want to do and press "OK", then Audition starts to record. I don't know if that window is what you're referring to as a "session".
If that is a what you mean by "session" then I would need to do some experimenting by setting PatchMix to 44.1, then open up Audition, hit "record", specify 96/24 in the window that pops up and see what happens. I would hope that I'd get a message from PatchMix that I need to go to set PatchMix for a 96k "session". That's actually a possibility I hadn't previously considered trying. I'm at work now but will look into this possibility after I'm back home & report back.
    -DLedin
EDIT: Since my last reading of your message you added a question:"Also, when you set the session up, did you take the check out of the 'use default' box?"
Please specify which application you're referring to when you say "session". PatchMix uses the term quite a lot. If there's a "use default" box somewhere that I need to take a look at then I need to know if it's in Audition 3 or PatchMix and just where to find it. Also, should that "use default" box be checked or unchecked? I appreciate your patience.

  • SoundFonts - small problem. Please help me because this is very important to

Hello everyone. I have just upgraded from a SoundBlaster Audigy, to a SoundBlaster X-Fi Music edition.
I have a collection of soundfonts which I used to use on my Audigy. They worked fine. Now that I'm using the X-Fi, they all work well, apart from one, and the one that doesn't work is my most used, most important soundfont.
    Description of problem:
When I run my midi file, it starts playing the music using the new soundfont, but after about 0 seconds or so, the sound stops - even though the music is still playing. I then can occasionally hear a note or two, but its no longer playing properly. All my other soundfonts work perfectly, so I really dont understand why this one would cause troubles. They are all .SF2 files.
    Other Information:
) I am using "SoundFont Bank Manager" to load the soundfonts. They all work great apart from the main one I want to use. It worked fine on my Audigy. The Cache part says 7.3mb Used/ 229.8mb Free.
    2) I am on Windows XP Professional - Service pack 2.
    3) The rest of my computer is very powerful. Its a core2duo, 2gig of RAM, 320gig seagate barracuda hard dri've etc. Regularly defragged.
    4) I have the latest soundcard drivers (And direct X, video drivers, bios drivers, etc.).
    5) I have no other problems with the computer.
    6) My Midi program is Guitar Pro, which plays special midi files. It is set up properly, and it plays everything perfectly - using all my soundfonts, except the one I most want to use..
Please help me get this working. It is very important to me, and I need to get it working as soon as possible. I'll keep searching this thread incase I need to give any more information.
Thanks in advance.Message Edited by acrobat on 02-09-200705:0 AM

Why do you have two threads dealing with the exact same issue. That makes it confusing and hard to follow your issue to help you.
Who is your carrier, I asked in the other thread?
Have you tried YOUR sim card in another device, what happens?

  • Is it me or is it my headphones or the prod

the soundfont in the distortion guitar sounds like beeping when i play the high pitched stuff doesnt sound like it does in the music cds i have.. how do i fix this or is it my card or headphones?i?have an audigy 2

I personally have never heard a decent overdri'ven/distorted guitar with any midi.
An overdri'ven guitar sound however has some similarities with a beep. If it sounds too artificial it means the sample is too flat and there aren't enough effects that make it sound more "natural" (well, as natural as an electrically distorted signal can sound anyway), e.g. no vibrato, unusual frequency response etc.
Try a different soundfont, or use an effects plugin if you're using some software like Reason.

    Hello,
?? I just bought a audigy 2 se card {walmart} and installed it on my computer basically without any trouble, It shows soundfont on the box and was just wondering if the sounfonts they say exist are the basic 0 soundfonts under eax effects, or if you have to buy a bundled box to get these soundfonts and such, I can't find any other soundfonts or sound banks on this card, I have a old midiman oxygen 8 usb powered keyboard with updated drivers for my operating system vista hp sp, I used it a while back with my sb li've value card {different computer xp sp2] and it worked fine and upgraded that card to a audugy 2 zs it worked fine, so do I need to change soundcards to get midi to work digthis?

  • Using Soundfonts

Hey, I'm working with soundfonts with my midi files in Sonar 4 but I have a couple of questions...I guess maybe about soundfonts in general. Can you modify them? I mean, Sonar won't let me add reverb or an echo to soundfonts, which is bad if you're using a couple different soundfonts together and one has more echo than the others...I want to even them all out so they have about the same echo.
What can and can't you do with soundfonts in terms of editing and/or modifying them? Also, if anyone has any other advice on how to make my midi files sound realistic rather than generic, let me know. I thought soundfonts was a good solution to at least try.
Sorry if it's confusing but thanks.

    Moonwalk,
To get Reverb and Chorus in your SoundFonts, click the "Effects" tab at the bottom-left of your Sonar screen, and you should be able to adjust both settings. To make sure they "stick", go to the "Options" menu and select "Project". Click the "MIDI Out" tab and un-check the box that says "Zero controllers when play stops".
Let me know if this helps. BTW, if adjusting the reverb/chorus sliders has no effect, you will need to set up an EAX preset to use when composing with MIDI. Here are the steps I recommend:
    1. Open up EAX Control Panel (via AudioHQ or otherwise).
    2. Make sure the "Master" tab is selected.
    3. Select "ENV" from the first drop-down menu under "Audio Effects" (if applicable).
    4. Select "Concert Hall" from the second drop-down menu under "Audio Effects".
    5. In the effect type window, click on "Reverb".
    6. Using the slider at the bottom of the screen, set the reverb amount to -6.0 dB or higher.
    7. In the effect type window, click on "Chorus", then click the "Parameters..." button below.
    8. Change the following parameter values:
    LFO Rate: 0.56 Hz
    LFO Depth: 10.00 %
    9. Highlight "Default Chorus" from the drop-down window, and type in the new name: "Warm Chorus".
    10. Click the little disk icon to the right to save the effect.
    11. Click "OK".
    12. Using the slider at the bottom of the screen, set the chorus amount to -6.0 dB or higher.
    13. Select the "Source" tab, and remove the reverb and chorus from any source that you don't want to be effected such as "Wave/MP3" or "CD Digital" (do this by selecting each menu option and dragging the reverb and chorus sliders all the way to the left). If you don't do this, your normal wave and music playback will sound echo-ey. Do not drag the sliders to the left for the "MIDI" menu option, if it shows up on your system.
    14. Highlight "Concert Hall" from the second drop-down menu, and type in a new name: "MIDI Playback".
    15. Click the little disk icon to the right to save the preset.
Please be aware that this custom EAX preset will kill EAX effects in games, so you should always select "No effects" from the menu before playing a game that uses EAX.

  • Audigy 2 zs notebook - no soundfont

    # Hi,
I have Windows XP SP2 (also tried SP3 and Windows 7 with the same result).
When I install the original Audigy 2 ZS Notebook CD, soundfont playback (using the Soundfont Bank Manager) has terrible latency, probably 250 mSec or so. After I update drivers and applications using Creative's Autoupdate, I get no soundfont sound at all.
After the update, the Bank Manager showed no soundfonts loaded, so I tried reloading the soundfonts that were originally installed (CT2MGM.SF2, CT4MGM.SF2 and CT8MGM.SF2) - still no sound.
Additionally, I've downloaded Vienna 2.4 and starting it up gives me the error:
Sound font editing capability is currently being used by another application.
Quit the other application and try again.
This is a fresh XP Home installation with SP2 installed.
The the original Audigy CD, then Creative's updates.
    help!

? A soundfont cannot contain alle drumkits, and it is not nessecary at all. I dont know a soundfont bank wich contains a complete set of drumkits, too. There are only some soundfonts like the crysis soundfont (to big for its "bad" quality) wich have some dummy-drumkits/ entrys or slightly modified sounds for each than usual. If all drumnkits would be stored in high-quality, the soundfont would be huge... Every synth i know uses the standard drumkit, if the chosen one is not existent. This is not optimal, but it will guarantee, that the the MIDI file or Program/ game will work. The KXDrivers wont do this. SO they are not useable for General MIDI. Only for MIDIs and soundfonts fitting together. But thats not the point of General MIDI. CMSS isnt working with these drivers, too. Dolby decoding/ encoding isnt possible with them, either. These drivers are not bad, but if you want a completely working card, KXdrivers are worthless.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Notebook/ Creative Soundfont Synth

.Audigy 2 ZS Notebook/ Creative Soundfont Synth; Hi there, if have a problem with this card. I solved it in some way, but maybe someone has got a hint for me. The problem: Creative Soundfont Synth only works with the original driver cd installation. The only working driver update, wich leaves the Creative soundfont Synth functional, ist the one available via Windows Update (Windows XP). If im using autoupdate from creative, and a newer driver like the 2_0_06 or the 2_8_00 is installed, the creative soundfont synth is dead. No way to get it to work. (DXDIAG shows errormessages while testing, Synth cannot be initialised) I reinstalled the driver manually, i tryed to uninstall it, so many options i've tryed: no way! So i gave up, and now im staying with the latest drivers from windows update. The card is working fine, so its Ok for now. Is there someone else with the same problem? Question: Do someone know why the hardware synth on this card is disabled? Why is this sofware synth necessary? The card is a EMU0K2, so it has the Hardware Synth available theoeretically. This Software Synth- Installation is a [email protected]

  • 24-bit soundfont sp

Where can I find the specification for the new soundfont file format enabling 24-bit samples? (Assuming that's what "24-bit sampling" means.)?I've combed the Creative and EMU sites, but can't find a specification for 24-bit soundfonts. The Soundfont 2. spec (also known as 2.0, as labeled in the spec itself) is explicitly limited to 6-bit samples. As a designer of free soundfonts (jRhodes3), I'm interested in how to create a soundfont with 24-bit samples. Note that I do not use Vienna and do not plan to. • SoundFont Playback with E-MU 1616

I recentlly purchased a new laptop, along with a Sound Blaster Audigy, so that I can take my music on the road. However, to my dismay, I discovered that it didn't have hardware support for soundfonts, and the software driver wasn't fast enough.
With the advice from Creative Support, I purchased the E-MU 1616. However, it also doesn't support soundfonts. It does come with Protues X LE. I read that Protues X supports soundfonts, or at least can convert them, but can I get Protues X for the E-MU 1616? Or is there another way to get reliable soundfont playback without a major delay?

  • SoundFonts and Synthesizers using SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio

Can anyone tell me if the SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio soundcard has a SoundFont (sf2) capability running under 64-bit Vista Pro? In other words, I want to be able to load and manipulate SoundBanks and SoundFonts using the SoundFont Bank Manager. Particularly, I want to be able to play Band-in-a-Box files using a Creative SoundFont Synthesizer. I also wish to be able to make my own SoundFonts using the Creative WaveStudio 7.
Some folks over on the PG Music forum for Band-in-a-Box seem to think I must move up to a Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer. Is this correct?
Currently I can only get the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth to run in Band-in-a-Box and it sounds diabolical.
Please note that I am using 64-bit Vista Professional!

Seeing as the desktop version of the Xtreme Audio doesn't support Game Mode or even have the X-Fi chip on it (card is basically nothing more than a renamed SB Li've 24 bit/Audigy SE), I don't see how the notebook version can be any different. That and from looking at the specs for it I don't see anywhere that it even mentions anything about Game Mode, never mind EAX.

  • OK... Soundfonts sometimes work, sometimes not

I am new to Soundfonts. Downloaded SoundFontSynth that comes with a bunch of stuff, and also downloaded some individual soundfonts that can be used in DSLMusicDevice. It did take me forever to figure out where to put the soundfonts as the instructions are less than helpful.
I've been experimenting in GB and have a question.
When working with a midi file in GB and I want to change one or more of the instruments - Why do soundfonts sometimes work and sometimes not? Either it plays at its default instrument and won't change, or no sound at all, or sometimes it works fine.
It does work fine with my usb keyboard.
    Thanks,
