  • Satellite L310-D4010: OS has become dead slow while using the CD/DVD drive

    Dear all,
I has bought Toshiba Satellite L310-D4010 at chennai, India.
It has 2GB RAM and 1.83 GHz Intel Core2 Duo Processor.
But my system has become *dead slow* while i am using the optical drive i.e., when i am writing a disk and copying the content form the disk.
I was not able to open any application while i am using the DVD drive.
Please guide me to resolve this problem.
    Thanking you.

For me it is also logic that notebook performance goes down when I copy a lot of data. To be honest when I use some burning application to save data on CD or DVD I leave it running till the end and avoid usage of other applications while burning procedure is active. All I do at the same time is surfing in Internet.
I cannot imagine you are not able to start some applications. Maybe notebook needs some more time to start application but it must work.
At the end I must say that 2 GB RAM for Vista notebook is for me really the minimum and if possible I recommend you to upgrade RAM if possible. This notebook model is not known to me and max RAM for this model is not known to me but I presume the 4 GB should not be the problem.

  • MBP to MacPro Network Connection Deadly Slow

I recently purchased an Intel MBP, and am connected to my home network wirelesly via a Belkin N1 router. Connecting to the Internet works just fine: speed is good, connection is strong, etc.
But connecting to shared drives over my home network - specifically, those on my MacPro - has become deadly slow. It can take hours to transfer files of a few MBytes. The MacPro is connected to the network via Ethernet. It has four full drive bays. The Internet performance (e.g., web browsing) on the MacPro is fine.
I previously has a PowerBook G4, and it did not have this problem - network speeds worked fine. It's only after I moved to the MBP that this started.
This problem occurs even if a connect the MBP to the network with an Ethernet cable.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    MacBook Pro/PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    William:
I've got DHCP turned on in the Belkin, so it's handing out IP addresses. The router does connect to a switch, and I haven't tried a different port on the switch, or resetting it, but I will.
One other thing to note - I have a Mac Mini as well; the Mini runs wirelessly. The connection from the MBP to the Mini has slowed down as well.
I was going to pick up an Airport Express router this afternoon and try it. If nothing else, I'll have a nice collection of Apple hardware...
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 dead slow on windows 7 after inserting some png images, I can't scroll. Why?

I am using Dreamweaver CS4 on windows 7, I put some png images in table and one 900px width image on background, now I cannot scroll the page, I can work smoothly on code view, but really dead slow in design view, Why? I am using Toshoba Tecra laptop - Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz with  2.5GB RAM.
Is it related to cache? Is it need any special settings for using too many images? Please help.

Thanks dear, The image has 1.08MB, but I find out the problem - I have 3 transparent images(less than 1kb) as table backgrounds, When I removed those images it works smoothly, I can scroll as well. But to keep the design how can I use transparent image without slowdown. The images are in PNG-24 format and i used those through CSS.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Only one project is painfully slow

    Hey community,
I have at least 100 various projects I've built in Logic Pro X, but I've found one long-standing one that has suddenly become extremely slow. I mean things as simple as moving the playhead give me a 4-5 second beach ball. I've tried removing all potentially resource-hungry plugins, saving as an entirely new project, deleting unused tracks, checking my external drive for errors, restarting my computer, resetting the SMC (as one person suggested) and trashing my preference file. Unfortunately, the project is horribly slow. No other project I have experiences this, and many of them are much more "loaded" than this one. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Just moved to ISP PLUSNET and now loading web pages is dead slow

Just moved to ISP PLUSNET and now loading web pages is dead slow.
Like loading google will sometimes take 30 seconds to 1 minute but it used to load in a fraction of a second on my previous ISP.
Sometimes a new URL will take over a minute so I hit Stop Loading This Page and then try again and sometimes it might load instantly, or if not, it might continue to just drag on again.
It's so frustrating it's like being back on dial-up connection - but worse.
It feels like PLUSNET have put something on my Mac to slow it down.
PLUSNET has a restriction on how much I can use per month, which my previous ISP did not have, but according to PLUSNET's usage checker I am nowhere near the max, ie, I am allowed 10GB per month but the checker is showing I have used less than 100 MB so far this month.
I wonder if the PLUSNET usage checker is slowing down my usage coz it's really noticeable that it has only started to run slow since I moved to PLUSNET.
When I run a broadband speed check it always shows the feed coming in at around 5500 kbps or so which should be OK.
PLUSNET told me to go through their test page and I got to the part where it says install a Virus checker and an Adware checker but I'm not sure which ones to use coz I heard some of those checkers are themselves plants that infect you with a virus or keystroke logger.
Also I have Block Pop UP Windows running on Safari but yesterday a window popped up so that blocker seems to have been compromised somehow.
I have 17GB available on my HD of a total of 38GB.
Can anyone help me with this problem please?

(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl. If you are running Snow Leopard, run Safari in 32 bit not 64 bit.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
    More useful information here:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/SpeedupSafari
Less likely, but possible, is that the slowness is caused by a Trojan such as the one called 'DNSChanger' or 'OSZ.RSPlug', which can alter the DNS settings of your network connection. This particular Trojan can be inadvertently installed if you have come across certain Quicktime movies where got a window stating that you have to download and install a particular codec in order to see the video.
If you have agreed to that installation, your system can be infected and your DNS settings altered, which results in your system using the wrong DNS servers, which can slow web surfing to a crawl.
This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.

  • Project suddenly very slow

    Hello
Using cs6 on windows 7, with program files on the operating ssd and media files on raided drive.
I am working with files with weird formats (ripped from youtube). one of the big completely unresolvable problems ive had is that i cannot export with sound. i plan to record the sound to an external recorder and then resync. not the best solution but haven't come up with anything better (deleting media cache didn't work)
this problem is new, i recently imported a long file, and everything went to hell. everything runs slow, the sound is fine, but the display doesn't work at all, or runs at an extremely poor framerate. all other projects run fine. the files on the project seem to be cursed. i've tried moving just one of the cursed files to a seperate project, and it will make the entire project run super slow. just tried a reinstall of the program and used the latest patch. no luck
    anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks so much

    Hello,
Check to see how much free disk space there is. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Check the hard disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.

  • Guestconnect wireless connection is dead slow

After installing Certificate on NGS , Guestconnect wireless connection is dead slow. (takes more than 1 minute to load Splash page ,which is stalled on NGS)
We have another Anchore controller with NGS in DR site. Whenever we pointing WLC to DR Anchor controller ,no issue.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sri

The certificate shouldn't cause this, unless there is an issue getting to the Internet to validate the certificate.
It could still be a duplex issue between the NGS and the Internet connection at the non-DR site.

  • CS6 dead slow moving layers and groups

I have this brand new PC, got it last week,  i7 core, SSD drive, 16gb ram.
When I open my PSD doc with my design (approx 43mb psd file) then the photoshop application spikes in memory usage, to 3.5gb (from 120mb), and moving groups and layers around is DEAD SLOW, horrible lag.
I had CS3 on my previous PC, which was Core2 Duo with 4gb ram, and the speeds there were similar on the same psd document.
I've also tried CS5.1 on a similar PC hardware specs as my new PC, and moving groups and layers around is much faster.
Is it just CS6? Why is this so slow?

Wow, that was kind of an over the top response...
Many of the files I'm using were made in CS4 and didn't have this problem. I updated to CS6 about a month ago. The same files, that worked perfectly in CS4 are having this issue in CS6. It's not about the files - it's about CS6.
Maybe I worded my post wrong. The point I was trying to make is - something is wrong in SC6 Photoshop that's not unique to me or my files. A lot of other people I know complain of the same thing.
I was trying to highlight that this is an unaccepatble issue for software at this cost. And that it's a really, really big deal. What is more fundamental than moving layers?
From the volume of posts I see and the lack of an actual solution, my assumption is that there is not one and that this is a program flaw. I hope Adobe can adress this in an update soon.
If that is wrong and there is a true "solve", please advise.
On a side note. I'm an Creative Director doing web based work. The files are 72dpi. And this issue occurs when dragging / moving simple layers. They are not huge files or items that require substantial redraw.
    RAM 15,214 - Photoshop allocated 10,497
    History states: 50
    Cache levels: 2
    Cache tile size: 128
    All other preferences are default.
Changing the settings above or alterting graphics processor usage or settings and no noticable affect.

  • SCDPM 2012 - backups are running dead slow

SCDPM 2012 - backups are running dead slow.
Below is the details of software and hardware.
    Server OS : WIndows Server 2008 R2
    DPM version : SCDPM 2012 , Version : 4.0.1920.0
    Server Hardware : Prolinet BL 460C G1
Tape drive - LTO 4 drives
    Network : HP NC325m PCIe Quad Port Adapter , driver version 16.1.0.1 ( 10/16/2013 )
Could you please help me to resolve this issue. Thanks
    Raghavendra Bhat

we've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 server that has been running DPM v4.0.1920.0 since it was released in
    10/18/2012.
    we are using D2D2T
We did have tape throughput performance issues initially, but after switching to the in-box LTO tape-drive drivers included with the operating system (instead on HP drivers), and setting several registry values associated with tape ports, we got it working.
     see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3cda9c6a-688d-4c2d-8dc0-9d04b8ea1f05/dpm-2012-not-filling-lto3-tapes?forum=dpmtapebackuprecovery
The best advice to speed up the D2D part of the backup is to configure any antivirus software if present to not perform any real-time scanning made by the DPMRA.EXE and DRSR.EXE executables.
Don't backup the system drive of the DPM server to tape, because there are as many junctions as you have protected volumes define, which makes the backup not work at all.
Also, for the system being backed up D2D,

  • Maxed out Mac Pro (nearly new) DEAD SLOW - why???

*I have always been a PC guy (animation and film production is what I do -- www.speedbumpstudios.com) but I decided to bite the bullet and go Mac. I maxed out my Mac Pro-- if it's available, I got it. It's a 15,000 machine. Great. So I've had it for a few months and the thing is so dead slow I am finding it almost unusable. My three year old PC laptop kicks its butt. Here are the symptoms.*
*Opening Photoshop takes anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes. Once it is open, if I try to open a file, it takes another couple of minutes for the finder to pop up so I can search for it.*
*iTunes regularly hangs and/or takes several minutes to load. My iPod, which is also new, sometimes cannot even connect to it (error).*
*HP scanning software takes minutes to open. Once the scan is ready to be saved, it takes minutes for finder to even offer the option to name the new file.*
*Almost all the software on this thing starts up painfully slow.*
*IMPORTANT: I have noticed that the machine runs almost all right immediately after a restart. The longer it runs, the worse these symptoms get.*
*ALSO IMPORTANT: -- I had been running Boot Camp on the machine, allowing me to boot into Windows XP. Recently bought Parallels and ran that. While this Mac never ran great, the problems seemed to get markedly worse at that point. I have since, out of desperation, removed Parellels completely, but the problems persist.*
*I am, of course, sick about how much I am paying for this machine that is supposed to be the best available and it about as useful as a boat anchor. WHAT SHOULD I DO!?*

    George, I feel your pain. I too have a maxed out Mac Pro;
    Mac Pro - 8 Core (Dual Quad-Core 3GHz)
    16GB RAM (Crucial Memory)
    4x 750GB Drives
    ATI 1900x Vid Card
    2x 30" Cinema Displays
etc etc etc .... I even have a 2-port eSATA cables installed (OWC) with a 1.5TB external drive (Iomega, and fast as the dickens!)
My machine has been in the Apple repair facilities THREE times so far (I am working with an executive relations person for 3 months now) and we are about to swap it out for a new machine because the term "ghosts in the machine" apply to many Mac Pros. In fact, the last time Apple fixed this machine was yesterday, replacing a bluetooth module, and as soon as I booted the machine it started having kernel panics (for the first time), we thought it was the RAM Riser cards being seated wrong... after making sure everything was seated properly, and doing a complete OS reinstall, it is still kernel panic-ing every hour (if I let the machine sit quietly)...so, there is a ghost in this machine that does not want to go away.
To get your situation though, MY machine has ALWAYS been much slower than the dual-G5 I replaced last April. You are not alone here. This is an 8-Core machine, ran Tiger slow and is now running Leopard only about 20% faster, which is still slower than the G5. Makes me want to cry sometimes because I paid, what, $1300 for the processor upgrade alone?
Something is wrong with your machine. I suppose you have already tried to reinstall, reformat your drives, correct permissions, etc and still found your machine wanting in the ways of speed, right? What you need to do is to contact Apple Executive Relations and tell them what is going on. Once they see that you ordered such an expensive machine (no one buys extra RAM from Apple so they will sympathize right there!) they WILL contact you and work with you until your problem is solved. The only reason they have not replaced MY machine yet (they will usually do so after the 2nd or 3rd repair attempt) is because in my case I cannot afford the downtime. Now, however, I think we have to because no one can figure out why this machine is having panics after sitting still for an hour.
Anyway, be assured this is NOT representative of Apple or the Mac Pro speed. Mac Pro's are plenty fast, and unbelievably fast with newer, Intel-based software (CS3), and even though Leopard has many many bugs it is faster than Tiger. My partner has the same machine as I do and it is so fast I think it does most of his work before he even arrives in the morning.
Work with Apple, let them fix your machine or replace it. They will.

  • My machine has gone dead slow. I have to wait for minutes to perform every single function. Like it stopped typing four times during this question.

My machine has gone dead slow. I have to wait for minutes to perform every single function. Like it stopped typing four times during this question.

If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the boot drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then run the Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics.
Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

  • After WAAS deployment network is dead slow

    Hi All
After deploying WAAS , i.e. WAE-302 module in Cisco 2811 Router on core and edge with default setting and running wccp on the router , network is dead slow .
Core and edge network are connected with dedicated 2MB lease line.
    License is Transport.
I can see traffic optimizing on WAE core and Edge but netwrok is dead slow.
    Any suggestions.
    Regards

What was changed on the routers during this implementation? Only configuring the module, enabling wccp 61/62 and enabling redirection on the LAN/WAN interfaces?
Were additional routes added? Is it possible a routing loop was introduced? Do you see a reasonable number of connections on the WAEs?
I suggest looking at the following to see if any problems are indicated:
    On the routers:
show ip wccp - should see most packets redirected via CEF
    On the WAEs:
show wccp gre - look for any high counters that don't look right
type-tail syslog.txt 50 - look for messages indicating possible problems
