SPARC 64bit Clusterware 10.2.0.4 - shared raw device

Dear group,
I have been asked to install RAC 10.2.0.4 SE on Solaris 10 (SPARC). I am not a Solaris admin altough I have done many RAC installations on RHEL4/5.
Does anyone have suggestions/pointers to documentation (apart from the docs on OTN which I already consulted) on how to place OCR and vorting disk on shared raw devices? The setup is unlikely to use any multipathing but will rely on a low end SAN for shared storage. I am especially interested in the proper use of the "format" tool (I know for instance that I need to start from cyliner 1 for ASM slices).
So far all I found were documents explaining SFRAC, Sun Cluster etc which I either don't have at my disposal or can't use due to license restrictions.
On a comparable single-pathing Linux setup, we'd simply use fdisk to create partitions on the shared disk(s) which then are made available as raw devices thanks to udev.
Thanks and regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,
Take a look on this doc http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14205/storage.htm#sthref675

  • ASM Spfile on shared raw device

    Hi,
I am building two nodes Cluster on Linux 4 update 5. I have successfully created the CRS. Now I am trying to create the ASM instance using the ./dbca. When I select both nodes to manage diskgroup, during the instance creation, and after I enter the SPFILE file location, I am receiving this message
    {The /dev/raw/raw10/spfile.asm.ora location is not valid. The directory "[/dev/raw/raw10/] is not a shared system partition across nodes1 and 2.}
The Oracle:dba has the ownership and read/write permission on this partition.
    Your help highly appreciated.
    Majid

    1) Check to make sure that the partition /dev/raw/raw10 is a shared raw device between the nodes (you can do this by using: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/raw/raw10 bs=1M count=x from both the nodes while logged in oracle).
    2) Since /dev/raw/raw10 is a raw device, you can not specify /dev/raw/raw10/spfile.asm.ora as an SPFILE location. Alternatively, under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs create a link to /dev/raw/raw10 with the name spfile$ORACLE_SID.ora from both the nodes.
    ln -s /dev/raw/raw10 $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfile$ORACLE_SID.ora (both the nodes)
    HTH
    Thanks
    Chandra

  • Patch number for Oracle 8.1.7.4 on Solaries SPARC 64bit

    Guys,
    Oracle Version: 8.1.6.0
    OS: Solaris SPARC 64-bit
I would like to patch to 8.1.7.4. I need a patch number for this, I find it very difficult to search for the patch on Metalink. Would you please suggest the patch number and maybe also suggest the easier way to search for patches on Metalink.
    Thanks in advance
    Durbanite

    Go to Metalink
Click on "Patches & Updates" tab
    Click on "Simple Search"
Search by "Product and Family" and enter RDBMS Server
Choose the target release you are looking for (8.1.7.4)
    Patch type => "Patchset/Minipack"
    Classification => "Any"
Choose the "Platform or Language" your plateform (Sun Solaris SPARC 64bits)
And finally click on Go button.
You'll get only one row as result, the patchset you are looking for actually.
    Nicolas.

I have checked that Native I/O is enabled, but it seems JMS can't find correct .so file
    Any idea? Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,

We are also getting the same error on a Linux 10.3.3 installation with 64bit jrockit

Is that the correct driver? This is a default weblogic installation, what is missing so it uses the correct I/O method?

  • Upgrade 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.4 on Solaris SPARC 64bit (on VCS) Hangs

    Hi
Im in progress of upgrading a 10.1.0.5 Database to 10.2.0.4 on Solaris SPARC 64bit with VCS installed.
I installed the base 10.2.0.1 and then 10.2.0.4 and then CPUJAN2010 without failure. I began the upgrade as per the b14238.pdf (Oracle® Database Upgrade Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) B14238-02 January 2008)
Its seems hung since last Friday morning, but the smon process is first on "top" command so it must be doing something.

    Problem Description
Am trying to setup and use the JDeveloper/OAF in our EBS R12 (12.1.3) web server. Solaris Sparc 64bit machine.
Followed the metalink document 416708.1 and took the zip p9879989_R12_GENERIC.zip as instructed in the training class. The readme does not mention about installing in UNIX. I am getting all shorts of errors when invoking "jdev".

Please let me know the steps.

    Hi ,
Normally the Jdeveloper setup will be done in Windows (32bit or 64 bit) for development of new pages, or extension.
I understand that you are trying to setup the Jdevelopment for your development in a Solaris Sparc 64bit machine, it should be possible because Oracle Development use Unix machine to run the Jdeveloper for development.
    Please try
To work around this you should edit the $JDEV_HOME/jdev/bin/jdev.conf -file and comment out the line that shows:
    SetJavaVM hotspot
After this you should be able to start JDeveloper 10.1.2.
You might get some weird sticky startup screen showing in front of the initial questionnaire windows. After passing these (either try moving the windows or just pressing Enter) you should be fine with JDeveloper.
    If that didnt work,

  • Installing oracle 10gr2 and applying 10.2.0.3 patchset on sun sparc 64bit

    dear all,
im planning to install oracle 10gr2 on sun solaris sparc(64bit).
kindly provide the steps specific to configuring kernal parameters.
    details:
    On Solaris 10
    sparc 64-bit
    uname -r
    5.10
provide the steps to configure the kernal parameters with respect to my configuration.

    hi rajesh,
thanks for your quick reply. but in sun solaris 10 do we need to change the entries in /etc/system.
    as per
    Oracle® Database
    Installation Guide
10g Release 2 (10.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC
    64-Bit)
    B15690-02
    November 2005
Note: In Solaris 10, you are not required to make changes to the
/etc/system file to implement the System V TPC. Solaris 10 uses
the resource control facility for its implementation.
do we need to chanage the values as specified or how to proceed.?
im confused in these with respect solaris 10.

  • Oracle Solaris SPARC(64bit) 12 release is not showing certified for Oracle DB 12c

While installation of 12c Database in Oracle Solaris SPARC(64bit) 12 , getting following error.
INS-13001 Environment does not meet minimum requirements.
Can we install the older version of Solaris SPARC (64bit) 11 ?, or is there any solution for this error, Thanks....

Oracle Solaris 12 doesn't exist outside Oracle.
You should in this case use either Solaris 10 Update 10 or 11, or Solaris 11.0.7.5.0 at least.

  • OCR and vote disk Allocation for shared raw storage with Solaris 10 questio

    Hi all,
Current environment is Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit OS with Hitachi SAN for shared storage and Sun E6900 servers.
For Oracle 10g RAC (10.2) and ASM, I am setting up the vote disk and OCR files on shared raw storage area network.
Assume that I have a 35Gb LUN carved out on raw device for the vote disk and OCR for a 2-node Oracle 10g RAC cluster and since the vote disk and OCR only require 120MB of storage, is there a way to use only a 120MB slice from the LUN or do I need to allocate the entire LUN/raw device to the vote disk?
I am looking for a way to avoid wasting space for the OCR and vote disk with my 10g RAC cluster and we are using raw devices and Oracle 10g RAC Clusterware with Veritas filesystem for the disk management. Can I have several slices on Solaris 10 with raw shared storage (Hitachi) to triple mirror my OCR and vote disk files?
It seems odd to have to use an entire 35GB LUN just for 2 small files: vote disk and OCR. Is there a way to partition a 120MB slice on one of the devices and allocate the rest to ASM?

    Hi
    In our RAC env.
we have 1GB LUN for OCR and Voting Disk and 100GB LUN for ASM disk. we have 4 Node RAC env on AIX with 2 SAN storage on Hitachi system for our Application.
we keept 1st Voting diks on SAN-1 2nd Voting Disk on SAN-2 and third voting on SAN-3.
OCR disk on SAN1 and OCR_MIRROR Disk on SAN-2.
we have ASM DIsk with Normal Redundancy . Failure Group 1 on SAN-1 and
    Failure Group 2 on SAN-2
    Regards

  • Configuring Storage for Clusterware on Raw devices

    My proposed system is:
    - Sun Solaris 10
    - Oracle 10G RAC
    - Oracle Clusterware
    - Raw devices for Clusterware files
    - ASM for database flies
Assume I have appropriately sized LUNs assigned on my SAN for OCR and voting disks. My question is, how do I configure the raw devices required for these Clusterware files?
I have read the Oracle RAC/Clusterware installation guide (Sun Solaris, SPARC), which goes as far as identifying the requirements but does not give the procedure. If I wish to use raw devices for ASM, it gives a procedure for creating partitions on the LUNs. Is anything like this required for the Clusterware files (OCR and voting disks)?

As far as I know, Solaris follows the traditional raw device definition, which basically says that a raw device is a disk or a partition on a disk that does not contain a file system (yet). Given your question, this would mean that any device that you can find that does not contain a file system would be a raw device.
    Message edited here:
However, you need to find the right link to this device in order to use it as a raw or character device. Otherwise, the device would be used as a block device, which means it will be buffered.
On Solaris, those character devices should be listed under /dev/rdsk, while the block device would be listed under /dev/dsk. (Please, refer to: http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Unix/Solaris/SOLARIS_UnderstandingDiskDeviceFiles.shtml)
    End of update.
Therefore, you have 2 options in your case. You can create LUNs in your storage that would be just suitable to host your Voting Disks and OCRs OR you can create a bigger LUN and put an OCR and a Voting Disk on this one, AFTER you have sliced the disk (LUN) using the format command.
There is only one thing to remember: If you follow Oracle's recommendation to use multiple Votings and mirrored OCRs, it would obviously be better that those devices do not all share the same LUN (for availability reasons).
Last but not least, you may want to have a look at the following forum for a similar discussion on using RAW devices under Solaris: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5073358&messageID=9267900
    Hope that helps. Thanks.

  • Access iphoto 08 file on shared storage device from multiple machines

I recently installed ilife 08 on both an imac and macbook. Previously (iphoto 06), both devices accessed the iphoto library on a shared storage device without any problems. After the upgrade, my imac is able to view thelibrary but my macbook (the second machine to be upgraded) no longer has access. 'Sharing' is too slow over the wireless network and doesn't represent a reasonable option.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Any suggestions.

Actually, neither repairing permissions or changing them with Get Info worked for me. What did work for me was deleting the empty iPhoto Library in the user folder who couldn't access the shared library, and put an alias of the shared library in that user's Pictures folder. Everything then worked as it did prior to upgrading. Thanks.

  • How to create Shared RAW disk on solaris 10?

    Hi,
I have built two solaris machine using VMware. I am going to configuare RAC. how to create shared RAW disk for ocr, votedisk and asm?
    OS version = 5.10 32 bit
    Thanks

use openfiler ( software based SAN) if do not have shared disk storage system, this is an appliance kinda software can behave as SAN storage, it can be installed on VM as a guest machine and rest configuration remain same as storage and your RAC deployment.
    http://www.openfiler.com/community/download

  • Oracle rac raw device as shared storage

    Hi,
i m new to oracle rac,
and i wish to instlall 11g r1 RAC on my laptop having linux 4 as platform (on vmware) ,
for that i prepare 4 partition for that (on node1)
    /dev/sdb1 - for ocr
    /dev/sdb2 - for voting disk
    /dev/sdb3 - for asmdisk group
    /dev/sda5 - fro asmdisk group
by assuming external redundacy for ocr and voting disk i kept only one disk
and i configured following in /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices
    /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sdb1 -- ocr
    /dev/raw/raw2 /dev/sdb2 -- voting disk
    /dev/raw/raw3 /dev/sdb3 -- asmdisk group
    /dev/raw/raw4 /dev/sdb5 -- asmdisk group
and my question is how node2 can understat these raw device as shared storage?
    thanks for any support

hi thanks for your suggestion ,
this may be ok for VMware , but what about for non-VMWare environment?
how can i make raw device as shared storage?
one more, all the docs that i followed on net , configured node1 partitions as shared storage.
