Speaker Test Malfunct

When I run the speaker test, it only plays sound for the front Left and Right speakers and does not play sound for the rear Left/Right or the Center/Woofer. However, all speakers play fine during demo!? In addition, the video does not play during the demo. Recently went to a widescreen monitor with a higher resolution. Can anyone help with these 2 problems? Thanks!

Hahaha, please give me a penny for every time I've seen this mistake and I'll be a millionaire. You're ignoring *timing*. See that "groups" command that you were just referred to? Run it. Yes, run it, and post the exact results. The *exact* results, not some results you think might be relevant instead. Then reboot your PC, which is far easier to explain than "log out and log in again".

  • Audigy2ZS, calibrate = 5.1, Speaker Test = w

Not sure how else to explain this. I was going to try and search for a similar problem, but I don't know how to explain this!
    Audigy 2 ZS
    Altec Lansang 25 5. Speakers
I've been using this set-up for ages.
Messed around in my system and hooked everything back up and suddenly had a weird problem. A total reinstall of WinXP SP2 (due anyways) didn't fix it.
When I do the "Speaker Calibration" for 5. speakers all of the surround effects are fine and I can set it up as normal. After, when I click on speaker test, it sounds like this:
    Front Left: Front Left
Center: Center (Plus Front Right? Maybe?)
    Front Right: Front Right
    Rear Right: Front Right
    Rear Left: Front Left
I've messed around with the cables in the back but they are plugged into the proper colours.
I just don't understand how the calibrate function gives accurate surround, but then the speaker test (and everything else) is messed up. I just tested the CMSS "Surround" function (playing a song in winamp) and it SEEMS to work.
    This is all very strange.

Audyssey builds a sound calibration tool into many home theater system receivers. If you are in the market for a new AV receiver, I recommend that you consider one that has the Audyssey system. The calibration process involves connecting a wired microphone-like device to the receiver, which you place in the center of the listening area. The Audyssey system than plays a variety of sounds from each of the speakers, and automatically adjusts all the audio settings on the receiver for an optimal listening experience.

  • No Subwoofer during games or music, but audio heard on it during speaker test...

    Hi all,
I really hope someone can help me with my problem. I recently purchased a Yamaha A/V Receiver that has a Multi-Channel Input (Model: HTR-5835). I have an Audigy 2zs gamer card and I am running three Mini (3 pole) to RCA adapters into the three seperate channels on the multi channel input.
I assume all the speakers are set up correctly because during both the Receiver's AND the THX control panel speaker tests I could heard audible noise coming from my subwoofer. I can also set the receiver to tuner and listen to the radio with the subwoofer.
I have CMSS turned on and I have listened to MP3's through winamp and WMP and there was no subwoofer, but all other channels (including center) worked fine. I also tried playing BF942, WoW, guild Wars and Doom 3 with no subwoofer sound at all.
Does anyone have any ideas or a solution to figuing out this issue? I have been wracking my brains and searching the net for 3 days to no avail.
    Thank you.
    Ndy

It's in Bass Management section of the Speaker Settings. Bass Boost will be greyed out with 5.1/6.1 or 7.1 speakers as it is meant for 2.1 and 4.1 systems.
    <IMG height=335 src="mk:angry:MSITStore:C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Cook\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content. IE5\WDA3CDI7\A2ZS[].chm::/images/spkr settings.gif" width=499 border=0>
It should be possible to get a decent output from the sub when using the bass redirection. This will give you 5.1 when upmixing with CMSS or playing games and 2.1 with stereo sources. If your sub can't amplify the signal enough, you may need to put a small preamp in between the soundcard and receiver to boost it. You could make one yourself if you're into electronics, there will probably be lots of preamp circuit diagrams on the web. DWH explains why the sub output is lower than the rest here:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...id=8533&page=2.
You could also go for a more expensive fix, which would be to use a crosover like this one in between the soundcard and receiver:

  • SoundBlaster 5.1 no surround sound with the speaker test, but with movies

ISoundBlaster 5. no surround sound with the speaker test, but with moviesO Hello I have a new SoundBlaster XFi Surround 5. USB.
I installed the drivers on Vista 32.
I connected the Soundblaster with an optical cable with my home cinema system.
I checked the 5. speakers option in the Creative Console Starter.
When I will test the surround function by clicking the speakers in the surround test diagramm from the Console.
The front speakers are sending an testsignal, but the rear speakers and the center are silent.
I thought that are settings in the soundcontrol from vista but when I play an Movie with 5. sound, the rear speakers function.
Is ist the optical mode that only support the movie dts signal? Why the Console test from creative doesn't function?
I have further applications but they don't work. Only movies.
    Thx

    Hi,
S/PDIF?format can only transmit 2 channels of uncompressed audio, which is why you only hear the front channels. For movie dts, an encoded compressed stereo data is transmitted through the S/PDIF optical link to your home cinema system which then decode it into 5. audio.

  • Calibration working, speaker test doe

    hello,
    i have a soundblaster audigy 4 and a 5. surround system.
when i do the calibration, i can adjust everything and when i am done i can hear the sound rotating around me, so everthing is just nice so far. got sounds from all 5 speakers and subwoofer.
but if i use the speaker test thats in the right side of the window i get the sounds for rear right in the frong right speaker and the rear left in the front left speaker. the center speaker however is fine, only all rear sounds are in front.
i have no clue why that is happening, cause the calibration is using my rear speakers perfectly, just the speaker test screws up... does that mean surround is working or not, cos i couldnt really hear stuff coming from the rear speakers when playing games with surround support. like hitman blood money.

  • Speaker Test Fai

    Hello everyone,
I currently only a Audigy2 NX and I have my fibre optical cable connected from my Yamaha Model TSS to the back of the USB Optical IN jack. When I try to do a speaker test under the speaker settings menu I only hear sounds from my front left and right speaker. My Sub, Centre and both rear speakers do not make any sounds during the speaker test.
When I click on test on my Yamaha- I get all speakers making noise.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

  • HDMI audio fails speaker-test, Radeon Richland

I've just put together a new machine and installed Ubuntu 13.10 on it. The system has an integrated AMD Radeon Richland APU. The Onboard audio is working fine (tested with headphones). The HDMI audio is enabled in BIOS, and it's listed in aplay -l and in the Sound Settings dialog. But it's not making a sound, and after many tests and possible fixes, I'm at a loss what to try at this point.
Perhaps the most telling indicator about the problem is the error message I get when I run speaker-test:
    speaker-test -l 4 -c 2 -r 48000 -D hw:0,3
    speaker-test 1.0.27.1

    Things I've tried already:
Ensure HDMI is unmuted in alsamixer
Update alsa to latest daily build. I'm now running oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms - 0.201402110705~ubuntu13.10.1 downloaded from launchpad
Update video driver from radeon to fglrx (catalyst 13.12). Had to write a custom xorg.conf file for this (see below)
Checked volume and settings in PulseAudio Volume Control - set HDMI audio to be the fallback output.
Updated grub as per this thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/864735

After carefully checking this again, it turns out clicking front left or right the sound comes out BOTH the front and rear. To make things more confusing when all but the line (green) 3.5 jack was unplugged ALL the speakers would work. LONG STORY SHORT I SENT THIS P.O.S. BACK TO NEWEGG FOR REFUND. Every thing works great with the onboard audio, I'm in the market for a 7. that works.Maybe Auzentech? Any suggestions?!! With all the issues the peeps are having someone must be using a card that works out of the box in Vista 64

  • My speakers are not all working as they did. Is there a speaker test?

    Hi to all,
This is my first post on the forum, and is done in desperation.
I have a laptop in my car running windows XP sp3 and an Audigy 2 ZS pcmcia card.
All was well when I first set up the system (with the help of my son who has now moved out and started his own family).
When my son was here he helped (well virtually did it all) setting up the Audigy software and I remember him saying that the cd that came with it was outdated and he downloaded new drivers etc and installed them on the fresh install of windows we had. all the speakers FR FL RR RL and Sub were ok and sounded really good, but last week windows died and since then I have installed fresh again and downloaded the latest software from the Creative site.
After installing the first time I remember a utility my son used (i think it was within the Creative software) that tested the speakers and a voice came through each one in turn to check if they were connected right. Now I cannot seem to find anything of the sort on this install? I also seem to remember that there was some way of choosing what channel went to what speaker, but can't find this in the new install either.
I just wish I was younger! Maybe then I could understand the problem as easily as my son would have! Doh!
Anyway thanks for reading this and any help would be much appreciated. BTW I am fine with the electrical / electronic side of things as I have been an electrician all my life. Its just this software side that gets me.

  • Creative speaker settup test problem.... surround sound test prob

OK this seems to be a hard concept for the support staff at creative to grasp so hopefully someone out there can help me..... OK? I have a Audigy 2 XZ platinum sound card with?the creative?7. speakers. it has worked fine in the past. recently when I go into the speaker setup and do a test to see if all the speakers are working correctly.... front left...front center...front right.... now this is when things get stupid.... rather than it continuing to the side right speaker..... the side right "sound" comes out of the front right speaker.... and it does the same for the rear right.... then to the rear left but this time it comes out of the front left speaker?and the same thing for the side left. I did a reinstall of windows and did a speaker test.... I was happy to see that it was fixed all the correct sounds were being heard from the correct speakers. I thought this was over with until I just ran a test again and it is back. It seems that all surround sound features don't work, none of my games nothing. if anyone knows how to fix this that would be awesome.... it is really pissing me off.
    things I have tried....
I have tried completely removing all drivers software and my sound card hardware and reinstalling everything..... does not work. I have tried to install new drivers..... no good. I want to say that after I installed the new updated drivers is when it started acting dumb. Anyways thanks for the help in advanced.

well I have been trying to figure this out... I am pretty sure its something to do with the drivers.... when I go in DXDIAG and run the sound tests it is saying that my Audigy 2 zs does not support hardware buffering? it seems that it is using the generic sound driver rather then the correct creative driver... I jsut dont know how to fix it.

  • Problems with xfi and new logitech z5300 speak

    Hello,
I just upgraded my speakers to Logitech z5300e's from my old set of Creative 5.'s. I am using an XFI soundcard that I have had no problems with in the past; it worked flawlessly with my old Creative 70 watt 5. speakers.
The new speakers do not get sound from the center channel in entertainment mode. Using the speaker test in the creative console, the center channel output comes from the right front speaker--and the right front sound comes from the right rear. Every speaker's output is off by one position. This DOES NOT happen in game mode-the speakers function normally. It only happens in entertainment mode.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and console/mode switcher to no avail. Logitech tech support tells me that this is a Creative software issue since the speakers work correctly in game mode, but not entertainment mode. Actually, this is my second set of 5300's, I returned the first as defecti've because of the same problem.
Can anyone give me any ideas or help?
The problem goes away if I hook up the old speakers and reinstall the drivers.
    Thanks,
    Jim

XuYimin, can you please give more info on what you mean by "update (alsa)"? There is no "alsa" package in Arch as alsa & it's modules are part of the (linux) kernel.
As you have already gone into alsamixer to ensure the appropriate channels are unmuted & set at the desired level, have you also gone into your KDE systems settings -> Multimedia -> Audio and Video Settings & rechecked your settings?
sorry,it's really misleading in my words.what i want to say is 'no sound after update, and the sound system is alsa.'
i'm sure the approiate channels are unmuted. in the Video Setting, I tested all sound cards in the list, But i can't hear sound.
