Special Characters In Apps Password

Hello
Are special characters such as $ allowed in an apps password?
We have hit an issue today when changing the apps password, we had a $ in the new password and now we can't logon as apps.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

  • Why can't I use special characters in my password? This isn't 1995 anymore where a lot of people don't have QWERTY keyboards.

Why does your site not allow the use of special characters in passwords? Do you not want your customers to be as secure as possible?
As a network security admin, limiting passwords to prohibit special characters is an extremely poor security practice.
Telling me that my security as a customer is important, then tell me that your own system limits my ability to keep my account as secure as I would like seems quite backwards. I understand the archaic reasoning was that not all devices have a QWERTY keyboard, this logic is flawed and is no longer necessary.

Hi, sorry to hear that you are experiencing these problems, but sometimes a new machine (be it Apple, Dell, whatever) can be defective right out the box - its not unheard of.
If your machine came with defective hardware and is still under warranty (seems to be the case here) then you have nothing to lose taking it back to where you bought it and, if there really is defective hardware present I am sure they'll rectify the problem.
A small note: these problems are not manufacturer-specific - its pointless blaming the manufacturer as I can assure you this happens with ALL brands. Apple supplies quality hardware and software - I know of a user who has had a machine switched on since 1987 without problems

  • OID/Portal - Restrict Special Characters to be used in Password

    Hi,
Does anyone know how I can restrict the use of special characters ($, &, £...etc) in the OID password? I cannot see an attribute to achive this? orclpwdIllegalValues will stop certain words, but I just want to restrict the use of any of the special characters in any password. All suggestions or information would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Requires custom plugin (using PL/SQL) to add password value checking to OID password policy management capabilities. A description and example code for this is available in chapter 27 of the Oracle® Internet Directory Administrator's Guide, 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) entitled "Oracle Internet Directory Plug-In for Password Policies" available at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/idmanage.1012/b14082/plugin_pwdpolicies.htm#i122359

  • Can I change the Password Policy Special Characters list?

I would like to add the UK Pound sign ‘£’ to the list of characters IDM uses for ‘special characters’ in its password policy checks.
    Is this possible?
    Regards,
    Gavin

It should be possible but it might be be possible from the GUI. I did a quick search in my IDM development environment and found two objects that might be of use to you.
First was the UserUIConfig Configuration object. I have a feeling that is a hold-over from IDM 7.1 so it might not be applicable but within it is this:
        <PolicySpecialChars>
          <String>~!@#$%^&*()_+=-`{}[]|\:";'<>,.?/</String>
        </PolicySpecialChars>
    {code}
The second thing I found was the "Alpha Numeric Rules" rule library, also a Configuration object.  It has a rule called "SpecialCharacters" and "hasSpecial" that might be of use to you.
I haven't tried changing either of those objects myself.  Let us know how it goes!

  • Special characters in Application Integrator

We used the Application Integrator component to join Documentum to the Portal, everything is working OK, but if the user type a password with the special characters (&%$=+) the app. comes down, we think it is because we get the password with the function getParameter("password"), the password comes in the URL, encoding. We readed about the URL_ENCODE function, but we don't be able to use it, yet.
    Thanks for any help,
    Sergio Sepúlveda M.

    Hi,
I would guess that the application integrator url encodes the password parameter, but that you do not do this at the documentum side.
For more information on URL encoding see
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percent-encoding
In java you can decode the value by using the class
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/net/URLDecoder.html
    URLDecoder.decode(getParameter("password"), "UTF-8")

  • ACS 3.3.3 UCP special characters fail

Some special characters fail when passwords are changed via UCP, but are okay if I enter them directly into ACS.
Any ideas on where to start? Problem always seen with the & character, but the $ character seems to be position dependent.

  • How to you enforce special characters under Authentication in the CMC?

Is there a way to to enfoce special characters in the password for user authentication?  I do know BO XI R2 SP3 does allow special characters, but I would like to notify users when they get prompt to change their password.

    Margaret,
Using the CMC, navigate to the entry entitled "Authentication", next choose the tab "Enterprise".
There are two key options (they appear towards the top), and here is a brief explanation of these:
When you enable the enforce mixed-case passwords option, then it ensures that passwords contain at least two of the following character classes: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, or punctuation.
The second option, must contain at least (N) characters stipulates the minimum length that a user can choose for his or her password.
From a practical point of view, I would say that if you have the first option taken (enforce mixed-case), then your next option should be set at no lower than 8.
As far as educating the user, this is done externally from the web page when it presents to the user (the user gets three prompts:  old password, new password, and re-type new password).  As far as a clue to using at least two of the upper/lower/number/punctuation in their password, I don't know how you communicate that other than an internally circulated "Introduction to Our System" handout and you include this tidbit amongst other details you'd like your users to know, etc, etc.
    Thanks,
    John

There are a few steps you need to do to configure BPEL with XML Gateway. This is what you did in 11i, may have changed for R12
Here are the steps to setup BPEL output
    1. Choose responsibility 'XML Gateway' from left panel.
    2. From right panel choose 'Define Lookup Values' . Oracle forms application would open up.
    3. On XML Gateway Lookups form , press F11.
    4. In 'Type' field enter 'COMM_METHOD'(without quotes.
    5. Press CTRL+F11 . Form would fill from already present look ups. We are going to create new Lookup Value.
    6. On new row create look up as (Values without quotes) :
    - Code = 'BPEL'
    - Meaning = 'BPEL'
    - Description = 'Used for Apps Adapter Integration using BPEL'
    - Check 'Enabled' checkbox.
    7. Save form from File--> Save from menu bar. you can close this form.
    8. XML Gateway Navigator form would be presented.
    9. From right panel choose 'Define Trading Partners' .
    10. On Trading Partner Setup form , press F11 .
    11. In field 'Trading Partner Type' enter 'Supplier (without quotes).

  • Special characters in passwords

Where can I get documentation for restrictions on passwords. Like what special characters can be used in
    passwords?
    Maximum length etc?

Passwords follow the same rules as other identifiers in the database:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/sql_elements9a.htm#27566
    That means:
    - not case sensitive
    - 1 to 30 characters long
    - no Oracle reserved word
    - no quotation marks
    - must begin with an alphabetic character
    - only alphanumeric characters, underscore (_), dollar sign ($), pound sign (#)

  • Special characters in password?

In DS 5.2 what special characters or nonalphanumeric charaters are allowed in passwords? Are there any that I should not allow? And are there any that I should not allow in regards to other systems using the ldap for authentication?

You are strongly encouraged to allow only 7bit ascii characters in the userPassword. The DS has a plug-in which will check for you to prevent 8 bit characters in passwords. It is called the 7bit checking plug-in or something like that. You have to tell it which suffixes you want to check, and tell it which attributes (probably just userPassword).

  • Mail.app hang if mail attachment have special characters in file name

    Hello,
I have upgraded to 10.5.1 from last version of Tiger.
After upgrade is not possible send message with attachment which have a czech special characters in file name (like á, í, é, ý, ú, ů, ě, š, č, ř, ž) with Mail.app. If I try it, CPU is overloaded and I must kill Mail.app process.
The same problem have my friends who are running a clear installation of Leopard 10.5.1.
    Thanks for correction.

I have the same problem with Hungarian chars. I tried out Tomas suggestion and it really worked. It is so dissaponting to have this kind of bug in a system like this. They never tested against this situation.
I hope somebody at apple read this discussion and somehow this will be fixed in the near future.

  • Create / Alter user doesn't allow special characters in password

When i try to change the password from say : vos1s05 to : vos1s05! i get the error message (missing or invalid option), i have used several special characters and all give the same error, is there a way to circumvent this, or will this be enabled in a new release ??

A password is classified as an oracle identifier and must conform to the rules for indentifiers. To include special characters you need to enclose it in double quotes e.g. "vos1s05!"
