Specify trim size, live area and bleed in Pages

How do I using Pages specify trim size, live area and bleed for 1/2 page print advert?

Pages doesn't have those.
You'll have to construct your own oversize sheet size with hand drawn trim marks, bleed etc.
Pages is not a Pro app. Getting adequate resolution, ink coverage, color management etc is not easy either.

  • How do I reformat the size of images and text on page to fit in normal full screen?

    Recently my computer crashed due to age. I can reboot the system and have done so reinstalling all programs using Windows. I have Firefox that I use but my homepage is set to aol as this is my email address. IT was on Sunday evening Dec. 26th that my computer was rebooted after having been out of commission for a month. I just did not have time to do it sooner due to holidays. My problem is that when I got my homepage, which was the Mozilla Get Started introductory page, the images were absolutely huge. I can see what I am supposed to, however, it looks like the images have been zoomed in so many times. I don't like this. I want my pages to display images as normal size for full screen mode. I have tried using the View tab and choosing the zoom option, but it does virtually no good-if I zoom out you can still see things like images but print is too tiny and blurry. Again, never have I enlarged the font, pics, or anything else for the matter. I like my settings on fonts to be standard (10-14) depending on what I am seeing. I don't understand why this happened. This is the first time I am seeing this issue ever and need help. If I want to see all of my page I have to scroll horizontally and vertically in order to see it all. I want to see it all at one time. I have never encountered this problem before. Can anyone help me? I would appreciate someone contacting me soon via email of [email protected] denoting to me an appointment time I can log on and get live chat help for this. Please let me know if this can be done or if I need to just try to live with it. Thank you for you help in this in advance and I look forward to hearing from my pals at Firefox because the staff have always been very helpful in past issues needing help on my end. Have a Happy New Year of 2011. By the way, I know that the box below has options of stating when this has happened and how many times, but I can say it has happened only once being now. I assume, and assumptions are slippery indeed, that if this happened now that it will in future times. So, for sake of answering the box below I will choose "once."

    Hit Ctrl+0 (That's a zero, by the way). I'm not sure if it will work, but hey, that's the first thing I would try.

  • Font Size in preview and printed web pages

    Hi: I have had a long running problem that annoys me. ever since I purchased a 20inch LCD and changed my display to 1680x1050, web pages that I print appear very small. the same thing happens if I go through preview. Word documents do not have this problem; the font size there appears normal and is easily read.
    Is there a solution to this?

    There is a way to increase the default 72 DPI rez that saving a PDF uses, if your interested I'l try to find it.
    Nevermind, found it...

  • Beginner Illustrator CS3  Set Trim size and Live area

    Our graphic designer is on vacation I need to submit this image to print as poster...I have the image but I need help how to set Trim size to 45" width and 67" height. Visual live area set to 43"wd x 64" ht DPI 150 at 100% saved into PDF. Please help how to do this in Illustrator CS3?
    Thank you very much!

    > Trim size to 45" width and 67" height.
    File > Document setup. Make that the document size.
    > Visual live area set to 43"wd x 64" ht.
    Just keep all important info (text, logo) within that area. 1 inch margins left and right, 1.5 inch margins top and bottom.
    > DPI 150
    That's PPI, for Pixels Per Inch, not DPI. That's the minimum resolution for imported artwork, like scans or Photoshop files.
    > saved into PDF
    File > Save A Copy. Choose ADobe PDF as the format and then Press Quality as the preset in the following window after you click Save. Unless the printer provided more specific requirements, which I doubt.

  • Bleed Size, Trim Size, Type Size?  Help!!!

    Hello, quick question, I'm normally a web designer but we have a couple of print jobs in.
    I've been asked for the following.
    Bleed size, (281x216mm)  fine
    Trim size, (275x210mm) fine
    Type size......  (257x172mm) um...
    Is this the area in which the type should sit....?  If so, that sort of screws up my designs....
    Thanks in advance, TD

    I would interpret that Type Size dimension as the "safe area" in which all important information should be located, but it would help to know more about the project since the dimension listed is quite a bit smaller than would be generated by subracting the bleed allowance from the trim size (how you normally calculate the safe zone), and would suggest margin settings instead.

  • Trim and bleed marks

    I created my file in Photoshop but then I had to transfer it to Illustrator to create trim and bleed marks. I managed to add crop marks by creating a rectangle, placing it in the middle of my picture and selecting object/crop area/create.
    However, when I try converting my file to PDF, none of my marks can be seen. I also tried setting everything up in print dialog box but nothing works. I am creating a file for commercial printing. I am using Photoshop and Illustrator CS3. I really need help with this. Any ideas on how to solve it would be great!!!
    Thank you!

    Thanks. I did try it the other way as well, but then my crop marks show out of artboard for some reason and I need to adjust them manually, hence changing the trim size, which I don't want. If I don't adjust them to appear on artboard then they don't show in PDF. That happens when I use the rectangle in trim size.
    However, when I only use the command that you mentioned without creating a rectangle first then my crop marks show in the middle of my artboard, in other words, if it was to be trimmed to the right size, the crop marks would be seen on the printout after trimming. I hope this makes sense, but I've been trying to do this for two days now and I am losing my mind.

  • How to set page size and bleed

    Hi all,
    First of all, I am really a totally newbie for Indesign. My knowledge of Indesign is zero.
    Recently my design send me a artwork but he is missing now. I need to do some modify for printing but I really got no idea what should I do.
    The printing manufacturer request me to set my page as 303mm x 216mm, however my page size now is 297mm x 210mm. After that they need me to add bleed for them as well.
    So any expert here could guide me step by step what should I do?
    I tried myself to go "Explore" > "save" > then change the value of "page size" to 303mm x 216 mm. Then go "Marks and Bleed" > "tick "Bleed" and choose value (top:3mm, bottom:3mm, inside:3mm, outside:3mm)
    However, the result come out my page size is much bigger than 320+mm and 230+mm
    Why? What should I do?

    InDesign is a pretty complex application to learn on your own.
    As soon as possible, acquire a good book on InDesign. My recommendation for beginners is Sandee Cohen's "InDesign QuickStart Guide." There are editions for different versions for InDesign. Less than $20.

  • Bleed Areas and PDF Export

    I set my book up in indesign and have all the bleed areas marked out.  When i export to a pdf it comes out fine, but when i export to a pdf  using the documents bleed settings i get an issue.
    On the two pages facing each other the inside edge of each page is  switched with the page next to it. so on each page i have a strip of the  image from the left page on the right page and vice versa.
    What am i doing wrong? Indesign is pretty new to me and I havent been able to figure out what is causing this

    There's no harm in that at all. As the image falls outside the crop area. IT should be trimmed off when printed anyway.
    Usually the prepress will impose the file and it sort of sits in a container where the bleed wouldn't be visible on that edge anyway. And even if it is it's going into the spine. The chances of it appearing in the final printed piece is extremely slim.
    However, you can combat this by File>Export>PDF and go to the Marks and Bleeds - untick the Link button for the bleed and change the inside bleed to 0.
    Now you won't have any bleed on the inside pages.

  • How to markup a layout so each area is exported as a different page on the pdf using the crop and bleeds

    Hi, I work in the sign industry and I am looking at a way to streamline our preprint setup for artworks
    the issue is that we will get an artwork that is 6m x 2m. This is to big to do in one print so we will chop it into 2-3 pieces and then print those.
    this is currently done by laying out the full artwork in indesign then exporting it as a pdf. this pdf is then imported into illustrator where we will manually cutup the artwork using clipping masks (it has to be manual due to cuts in the artwork needing to managed so it doesn't go though text, ext).
    ideally I would like to lay it out in indesign then markup this layout with boxes which show the areas to be cut out. then we I export I'd like indesign to export each box as its own pdf(or pages in one pdf) with cut marks and bleeds.
    is this possible in indesign using say the slice tool? (the slice tool seems to be for html elements)
    any help or suggest would be most welcome
    Kind regards
    Gareth

    Hello gareth, not sure if the info' below will be of use, but I will give it a go.
    Try this…
    (I am using Indesign CS5.5)
    1. Create your desired page size.
    2. Then create 2 or 3 more pages
    3. Open the pages window (from top menu - window - pages)
    4. (fig 1) From the pages menu click top right down arrow to get the menu and uncheck ‘Allow Document Pages to Shuffle’.
    5. (fig 2) From the pages menu, drag page 2 and 3 next to page 1, see fig 3 for result.
    6. (fig 4) Place text/image across the pages you have created then save as a Pdf.

  • SetPageBoxes + Trim and Bleed

    Hello,
    I’m using Acrobat X prof and I’m trying to set page boxes (crop, trim and bleed) through javascript but the only box I’m able to set/change is the cropbox!
    This is the code I’m working with and what I run from within the javascript console:
    var rCrop = this.getPageBox("Crop",this.pageNum);
    rCrop[0] += 56.69290161; // Adjust Left Side
    rCrop[1] -= 56.69290161; // Adjust Top Side
    rCrop[2] -= 56.69290161; // Adjust Right Side
    rCrop[3] += 56.69290161; // Adjust Bottom Side
    this.setPageBoxes("Crop",this.pageNum,this.pageNum,rCrop);
    By changing “Crop” in the last row to “Trim” or “Bleed” and re-execute the code I thought I should be able to set those boxes as well?
    Eventually I’m going to set all these 3 boxes to different values but for now I’m just trying to set the bleed and trim!
    Any ideas of  what I’m doing wrong would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    MD

    It seems that Acrobat doesn't "recognize" the page boxes immediately after they been set by the script.
    I used to check if they were set by going into the "Set Page Boxes" dialog but looking on the different boxes showed no changes!
    But if you do a preflight and check the Overview -> Page... Page information you will see that the different page boxes are in fact changed!
    So save your PDF and reopen it to be able to check the page boxes through the dialog!
    Hope this information might be of use for someone else.

    I know the colour graphic shading in the document that causes the issue of larger file size, but it doesn't make sense that printing 1 additional page with same information as first 2 pages would cause this.

  • How to create a user using XML and specifying addional attributes that are objects

    I'm trying to create a user using XML and specifying some attributes that are objects and not sure how to do it. How would I set the DirectoryUserAcl to Public?
    Here's the xml file:
    <?xml version = '1.0' standalone = 'yes'?>
    <SimpleUser>
    <UserName>mike2</UserName>

    <DirectoryUserAcl> ??? </DirectoryUserAcl>
    <DefaultAclBundleAcl> ??? </DefaultAclBundleAcl>
    <HomeFolderPolicyBundleAcl> ??? </HomeFolderPolicyBundleAcl>

  • How to set value for trim and bleed using jsx script?

    I have tried using bleedoffsetRect but somehow it is not working. Can anybody please help me on how to set value for trim and bleed using jsx script? Any example will be highly appreciated.
    Following is the code I am trying with:
    var _saveName = new File ( root_path +_strFileName+".pdf");
        var _saveOpts = new PDFSaveOptions();
        _saveOpts.printerResolution = 300;
        var bleedarray = new Array();
         bleedarray[0] =9.00;
         bleedarray[1]=9.00;
         bleedarray[2]=9.00;
         bleedarray[3]=9.00;
        _saveOpts.bleedOffsetRect = bleedarray;

    I would expect although I've not actually tried this for the bleed off set box to be larger than the artbaord and the first two values to be negative or 0…
    var bleedarray = new Array(-9,-9,artboard.width+9,artboard.height+9);
    Where 'artboard.width' & 'artboard.height' you will have calculated from your file. An Array(9,9,9,9); would not constitute any boxes bounds.

  • Basic printing questions with safe zones, trim lines and bleeds

    I am working with a file that has safe zones, trim lines and bleeds. If I place something that touches the outer edges of the document at the bleed zone, how will it display if there is a trim line before it? Won't it be trimmed anyways?
    Thanks.

    Consider the bleed a precautionary measure in the case of registration variance when cutting the actual printed product.
    So it should be cut off, but it may actually become visible (partially).

  • How to define the size of report area and its elements?

    How can I define the report area size and its elements? And how can I define that for each printed paper, the details area will repeat horizontally or vertically?
    Is there any way to change the measuring units?
    Are there any difference between Crystal Reports that is bundled with Visual Studio 2005 to the standalone version that don't allow me doing what I need?
    Thanks.

    Hi Juliano,
    I hope this is what you had in mind...
    1.  File / Page setup: set your paper size, portrait/landscape and margins.
    2.  Section Expert: the page header &footer sections are 'locked' in that each page will have the space indicated dedicated to these sections; report header & footer - this is the space dedicated on the first and last page of the document. The remaining space available will be used up by the Details section.
    I'm not sure how you can get the Details to print verticall vs horizontally - except maybe with cross-tab format.
    3.  Measuring units: is this for the ruler? This is pulled from your computer settings.
    The rest I'm not sure about but I hope this is enough to get you started!
