Why when I set up my Country or Region on my iPhone 5, the default language of the phone is the country's and not the one I selected when I set up my preferred language?
Go to Settings/General/Reset and choose Reset All Content and Settings. This will erase everything on the iPhone and allow you to set it up again as new with the proper Apple ID.

My iphone 4 can make and receive calls but I cannot hear the person on the other end...they can hear me. I have tried plugging headphones in and resetting...any other ideas?
If you need to use the phone now, try using speaker phone until you can take it to an Apple store and have them further look into the problem.

As Lion does no longer support 'Rosetta" I will need to import my WORD files. I am using several languages (E, D, F, I) and would like to also write/check the texts before sending. I have not found any way to do this in Pages. Have I overlooked something? Thanks for guidance. Gottfried
I guess that you would get better results with libreOffice which is really designed to clone Office which is not the case for iWork.

For the past year I've been using an external hard drive (HD1) connected to my airport extreme as the back-up location for time machine. This has worked fine without any issues. What I would like to do now is to move my itunes and iphoto libraries off of my laptop (space constraints) and store them on a second external hard drive (HD2) connected to the airport extreme. I have successfully connected the second hard drive using a Belkin powered USB hub. What I am wondering is if I direct my time machine back-ups to HD1 will it back-up both my mac HD as well as HD2? I apologize if this has already been answered but i've read conflicting responses on various message boards and a number of responses were dated so I wanted to make sure I received the latest information.

That may be true, but you need to know that backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple. See: Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk. Do not be surprised if those backups suddenly turn up corrupted.

No. Time Machine cannot back up from any network location. The 3rd-party utilities CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync may be workable alternatives. -
how do i know if my iphone has been syncronize with other device and how to remove it.?, cuz. I had found out that one of my co-work who was updatinng my phone was syncronizing to his name..in this case my photos is been syncronize to his acount.pls help...

Since you are having an issue with syncing to a different apple id. You may want to make sure you are signing in with the correct apple id.

I've double clicked the home button and closed all other apps other than the one I'm using. That doesn't seem to help. Is there something else I can do?
When you close all of apps in the recents tray, it might help if you restart the iPad or maybe even reboot it like this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
For Safari specifically, this might help as well. I would recommend restarting the iPad after clearing Safari.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. -

right now, there are none. the device was built more or less on a one user model. you can either passcode the whole thing, or not. you can set restrictions on certain things. and for email, simply do not use the email app, but rather use web mail, where you have to log on each time you want to use it.
There are a fair number of folks with the same problem as you, but as of now, there is no easy answer. -

Can someone please tell me if it is safe to install thunderbird are will it overite my other mail the postage stamp on my dock i am just knew to apple computer and this is so confusing i guess until i get used to it
Mail.app is one app and Thunderbird is an entirely distinct app. It has nothing in common with Mail.app other than it being just another mail program. It also won't just automatically replace your existing mail program. Just like mail.app you need to configure it's preferences for the desired mail server, account(s), etc.
I've never used Thunderbird but if it's a halfway civilized mail program then it should also give you the choice of leaving the mail on your server. So you could test it out without removing the mail on your server and Mail.app should be none the wiser. -
It started out as an occasional problem but not seems to happen multiple times a week. The screen will zoom in and not respond normally to touch and swipe actions. I cannot seem to get it back to normal unless I turn my phone off which can prove to be very difficult when the touch functions and swipe functions are compromised. Any ideas?
You have activated the Zoom function in Accessibility. Triple click the home button and you can use 3 fingers to scroll the screen. Go into Settings>General>Accessibility>Triple click Home button, off.
Double tapping with 3 fingers should turn it on or off. Three fingers to scroll around screen. Double tap 3 fingers and drag to change zoom. -
My ipad2 just went blank, it won't let me turn it off or anything. All i can see is the top bar with providor, time and battery! Any ideas what to do??
Hold the home button and the power button at the same time until the screen goes all black and then hold the power button until you see the apple.

Multilingual spellcheck - check multiple languages at the same time

I very often write in two languages - czech and english. I've installed a czech spellcheck library from OpenOffice (basically put the .aff and .dic files into my /Library/Spelling/ folder). Both czech and english spellchecking works fine separately but I definitely don't want to switch the language setting for each piece of text I write every time I start composing something new. I didn't find any other way of checking the spelling in more languages and the "automatic by the language" option obviously means you have to set the language of the document every time, which is quite pain in the *** resulting in not using the spellchecker at all. I don't care about recognition or setting of the language of my documents, I'd be happy with just something like a "merged language library" which would work with both languages combined. Can I do something like this in Leopard?
I went through dozen of old messages from 2008/2009 speaking about some multilingual setting in Tiger and maybe early Leopard but didn't find any solution which would work in current 10.6 OSX. Any advice?Mirek Burkoň wrote:

I haven't tried it but it should be possible if you have access to the a document with all the words.
1. My idea is that you have word processors language set to the you have for the computer.
2. Write a word that is in the other language, select the word and Ctrl click on it > Learn spelling. Do this for about 3 words.
3. Now the computer has created a language file in Users > your name > Library > Spelling. It is probably named cz
4. Open the cz file in TextEdit. You will see the is one word on each line in alphabetical order
5. If you have a list of english word you can add those in the textEdit file. Make sure the words are in alphabetical order. Save the document
6. May this list only will work in the word processing application where you started the custom word list but I don't know. You have to try it. -
Facebook sets the value of <spellchecker.dictionary> to <ru_RU> every time I start entering text (language doesn't matter) in a textbox on FB.

I haven't noticed any other website I use causing that problem: all of them use the predefined (in prefs.js) value of <spellchecker.dictionary> and don't change it unless I change the speller language manually.
The only way I can change the value of <spellchecker.dictionary> back to <en_US> is manually choosing English in context menu of a textbox, or editing "prefs.js", every time Facebook messes it up.
