Spilled beer on my X300 | Mein teil

This is also my story with X300.
I have 4 notebooks at the moment, two are Toshiba other two are Thinkpads. I dreamed about X300, it just amazed me, and after I got it, paid loads of cash for it (I paid in cash) ~2400 euros, after I rejected the fact that I'll get Windows with it, since I'm basically "pushing" towards Debian development, otherwise the "original" cost would be ~2500 euros.
I order it via Genelec (Tuzla, Bosnia | www.genelec.ba | official dealer), wait for it for less than 2 weeks, got it, paid full price in cash.
Now I get my X300, I'm amazed and all, first I notice one weird thing, battery is not as it "noted" everywhere else, every week it's losing 5 minutes of its battery life, in the end I get with something as 2:45-40, please do take the fact that I compile my own kernel and that I optimize it to the maximum, but ... that's the story.
Tried many methods, "blank it" out to ... whatever it didn't help, but I had idea of getting a new battery and in the meantime 128GB SSD came out, so it was in my future plans, some day. Anyways, pretty much everything was great and I was actually considering of switching to Thinkpad for good.
Also please note, that I also read on many occasions that X300 is pretty much "un-soakable", I took this information pretty seriously cuz I'm bit clumsy and I tend to spill stuff on my notebooks, every single one I had in my life eventually had the same faith. Ways of faith eh?
Nevertheless, I did the "standard" procedure when you spill something on your machine (got some experience on this issue, from previous accidents) so after it got all dry I saw that my keyboard just won't cooperate. I took it to the dealer I get it from (Genelec) they sent it to Lenovo in Sarajevo. (I'm currently residing in Tuzla) I even talked to one of the guy from Lenovo, told about everything that happened, he said they'll need to order new keyboard, I said I want English layout keyboard (instead of Bosnian/Croatian one, I previously had) he told me it'll be ~150+ euros, since things like this one (spilling stuff) isn't covered by my warranty, and it's that expensive since they'll have to order it from London and X300 is "special" series.
Sure, I said no problem, just get it fixed, also to check my battery, cuz I believe there's something wrong with it. Weeks later I got information that they have ordered keyboard, and that it has arrived, but that they'll have my notebook ready till they also get a new battery, in the end it was faulty battery or something and that battery will be covered by warranty.
I had the same problem with this laptop I'm typing this from (Toshiba L100-121) I had same problem while I was on DebConf7 in Edinburgh, except it was juice. So it was not my "native location", but all I did is I contacted nearest Toshiba Centre, they only asked for serial number, problems were greater, they had my both display and keyboard fixed all under warranty, as I remember I had only to pay some symbolic ~50 euros, and we do know how much displays cost; and it was fixed within days.
Now, I'm at point where I can't (I really don't have any energy left regarding this issue) to either contact Genelec service, people I know from Genelec, or Lenovo Sarajevo, this is really my last resort, going public. I handed this notebook on 12th November last year, you can check it yourself on the receipt, now the only question I got for Lenovo is, is this how you treat your customers? In just a couple of days it'll be 2 months, and you couldn't change the keyboard in ~60 days? To be quite frank with you, I find that fascinating.

My second question is, what is the time period in which I can request my full money back fee, 3 months, 6 months? Ever? Please don't mind my bitter tone in this post, but frustration would be a lite word how I feel right now.

Thank you for your sympathy, but I'm really not here for sympathy of any sort, I'm here for at least some kind of apparent solution to my problem.
I thought, at least some of the Lenovo employees hung around here, but I guess I was wrong. I just called Lenovo Sarajevo, and as I understood I talked to some manager or something, and guy who worked on my x300 should call me tomorrow, he finished his working hours for today when I called.
And in case some of the Lenovo employees does read this, your machines are working beyond great, but once it gets to human factor, this is where you miserably fail. Try working on this factor.

Spilled Beer on MacBook Pro

My roommate spilled an entire cup of beer on my MacBook Pro (which was sitting open) So it is all in the keyboard and I am assuming leaked down into everything else. The computer was not on when this happened but it no longer will turn on at all. It had been over a week so I am sure whatever liquid got into the computer is completely dry by now. I am just trying to figure out my options here...should I take it to an Apple Store? Bestbuy? to get looked at? I have only had the computer for about 2 months so I am not sure what warranties are on it (although I highly doubt they cover spilled beer...haha)

There is a chance the machine will survive without damage. The optical drive is the most difficult component. I disagree about the idea that the machine is completely dry on the inside after a week. It might take longer.
Beer will leave a sticky mess inside which is not a very good insulator. The machine needs to be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent in order to remove those traces. All connectors need to be cleaned as well.

Spilled beer; need help with keys!

Hi! I spilled beer onto my laptop. I checked everything out, cleaned what I could, and wasn't having a major problem with my keyboard. However, my number five key and my hyphen key aren't working at all anymore. I know it was to be something with the beer, they were working fine before. Is there anything I can do without having to pay huge amounts of money or have I lost the use of those keys forever?

Beer and electronics don't mix well. You should be glad that your machine is working at all, even with the key problems. Your only real remedy is to take the machine into your local Apple Store or AASP and see if they can repair the keys only. I doubt that they can. I imagine that the damage is too great - and the Apple techs will be able to see that the liquid sensors on the logic board have been activated by a liquid spill. They may want to - or need to -exchange the entire logic board in order to repair the wayward keys.
If you don't want to spend 'huge amounts of money' to have your machine repaired, I would just live with the key problems... until other functions stop working, too.

My Macbook smells like a beer cause I spilled beer all over it last night

I bought a new macbook in November and the other night some girl accidentally spilled about half a beer all over the keyboard and it immediately powered off. I then turned it upside down and did my best to dry it off. Once that happened my natural drunken remedy was to plug it into a wall outlet and try turning it on, probably pushed the button 5-10 times with no luck. So I then took out the battery and turned the put the laptop upside down in a V shape and let it sit all night like 12 hours. In the morning I put the thing back together and tried booting it up again with no luck... The white sleep light on the outside turned on while I let it charge up, but it was flashing in weird flickering ways (however its not doing that anymore) About an hour later I tried turning it on again and it started up but the keyboard and mousepad doesn't work at all. After googling the issue I realize that I may have made some bad decisions trying to turn it on so I now have removed the battery again and I have the laptop laying in the V position and I am wondering what I should do next...
On another note the thing is only a few months old so if I just take it to the store or buy the applecare will they just replace it for me? Does anyone know the details about the warranty and apple care for water damage or whatever may be wrong with my macbook?

Mort hit the nail on the head with AppleCare, unfortunately you won't be able to claim coverage protection on a spill.
Here's the problem, with spills... they're often worse over time, then they are initially. The problem you're going to be faced with is corrosion and moisture build up on the internal components. Especially with beer, once the hops and the yeast from the beer settles and oxidizes you'll potentially run into mold on the inside of the machine.
I had a good friend, several years back, spilled milk all over his PowerBook G4. He cleaned it up, thought the issue was taken care of and ran the machine off an external keyboard, mouse and monitor for a good 8-9 months. One day it just stopped working so he sent it to Apple, citing hardware failure. Never telling them he spilled milk all over it, a while back. Apple sent it back to him and stated that the machine was beyond economical repair due to a mold build up on almost all of the major components.
We ended up gutting the machine and when we opened it up it was the most horrid smelling, visually blinding site I'd seen before. Almost everything inside had mold growing on it, corrosion to the printed circuit boards, rust on all visible aluminum and grime that made us both question his decision to not have it serviced right away.
Long story, short... the sooner the better on deciding to get the machine serviced/cleaned/repaired. Spending a few hundred dollars now seems like a much better decision than having to buy a whole new machine a few months down the road.

I spilled beer on my Macbook Air, and it is unresponsive. Should I dismantle and clean it?

I spilled a small amount of beer on my 11" Air, and it shut off immediately. I let it dry, and it is still completely unresponsive several days later. I have applecare, but I understand that applecare does not cover liquid damage. I have only had the computer for about 6 months. It was a major investment for me, and not easily replaceabIe. I am wondering if I should go to the trouble of dismantling and cleaning the parts. Would this possibly bring the computer back to life? I am not tech savvy enough to know, but I am guessing that if the motherboard/circuits are damaged, there is no hope. I would appreciate responses from people with knowledge/experience.

That really wont do any good.
dont turn it on, water / liquids migrate.
Turning it back on is BAD, damage A can lead to B leads to C etc.
Also water migrating around, especially while on, can wreck havoc worse than initial damage.
Nobody here can speculate on damage on something they cannot see.
Having repaired laptops in the past, even IF you got it completely dry, residue from water (iron particles etc), and wet spots under fine contacts is nearly impossible to "dry out", its just doesnt work that way.
Lots of people try to "dry it out", most to learn little was solved in doing same, and sometimes further damage occurred.
Taking it apart, youll just about never "dry out it out" due to the all the hidden spots that will REMAIN wet for some time, even IF you dry to "dry it out"
Also corrosion will set in when dry, and the dry residue can jump connections causing further damage
Make appt. with Apple store fore repair / diagnostic.

Back button and menu button don't work after spilling beer on it. How do I fix this?

A few months ago on a night out beer was spilt on my iPod, I let it dry out and it still worked fine.
However a couple of weeks later my back button started to play up, only working some of the time I pressed it, and then stopped working all together.
My menu buttong has also recently started to play up, with me having to press it and hold it down for it to work, and this only working some of the time. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? Or even how do I send it off to be fixed? My iPod is still within its one year warranty.

Spilled beer on Macbook Pro keyboard

I had a going away party and made the mistake of leaving my computer in the living room after going to sleep. I woke up in the morning and the computer was closed but when I opened it I discovered that beer had been spilt on the keyboard. Everything works fine, the computer booted up normally and there are no issues besides a few of the keys sticking. The space bar sticks the most. What should I do? Should I remove the keys myself and wipe them down or do I need to take it to a repair shop to have it cleaned? I am moving to France for a year on Thursday and really want to get it figured out before I go.

liquid + electronics = short in the circuit somewhere.
best solutions is to take it in for service - not covered under warranty.
any leftover liquid could've gone all the way to your logic board that might cause your issues if you keep on using it.
best solution is to have it looked at before more damage happen to your macbook.

Macbook Pro 13'' Early 2011 Power Button not responding properly after spilled drink.

I've spilled beer on my old macbook last december. I've reassembled pretty much the whole mac, cleaned the motherboard with Servisol (isopropyl alcohol) and applied new thermal compound. The mac is working (if turned on from the motherboard, however the power button doesn't work properly. If pressed several times, sometimes it either changes the brightness of the screen or takes you to the widgets.
The keyboard was disassembled and cleaned and everything else apart from left shift and power button appears to be working on the keyboard. The keyboard was disassembled soon after the spillage, which was few months ago.
As it was few months ago when I cleaned the keyboard, I''ve forgot whether the power button is a part of the keyboard or an individual module. Could anyone give me some advice on that? Any other suggestions regards to the power button?
Another problem I've encountered recently is lost administrator account (after an attempt to turn the mac on). I can only access the guest account, my main account doesn't even appear on the launch. I can still see the administrator's files, but can't access them as they're locked. Is there a way to get back the account or access the files from the computer?

T400 mouse issues after spill

Hi,
I love my T400. It is the best built, most trouble-free laptop I've owned. Now I have an issue due to a stupid spill.
I spilled a fair amount of beer over the keyboard and immediately powered down. If I had it to do over I would have uplugged and removed the battery, but hindsight is 20/20 as they say.
At any rate, I unscrewed the keyboard and examined it and below it and didn't find any beer residue except on the keyboard itself. I popped all the key tops off and cleaned the entire area with ispropyl alcohol. There was a lot of dirt and hair in there. I think I went through about 70 double-tipped swabs. I also looked at the underside of the trackpad and didn't see anything that looked like it needed cleaning. I didn't remove any ribbon cables.
I'm using the same laptop right now and it is fully functional with the exception of an annoying mouse issue. I'll refer to the buttons as upper left, upper right, lower left and lower right which should be self explanatory. I've never used the upper middle button so not even sure what it is supposed to do.
The first thing I noticed was that the lower left button didn't work and the lower right button seemed to only work in certain instances. I hooked up a USB mouse and that overcame my problem. I soon noticed problems with that where it appeared a mouse click wasn't registering. I also about the same time remembered the upper mouse button on the laptop and started using that.
Generally, my upper left works for any left click functions. However I've notice in Google Chrome, I can't select a tab to change to it. If I left click the tab close, it does close the tab.
If I left click on my desktop, I get the right-click menu. The upper left button produces the Windows Start menu just fine but it is rare that I can get the right-click Windows Start menu. When I can, it is only with the upper right button.
What I'm guessing from all this is, everything that is mouse-related must run through the same hardware regardless of the input used (upper buttons, lower buttons or external USB device) and different software handles mouse clicks differently explaining the differences (good, intermittent or never) in response.
Here's another example. To run the Windows calc program from the Start menu Run feature, normally I would left click run and get the dialog with a drop down menu for recent programs accessed thru Run. Let's say I'm using calc. Simetimes this works normally. Other times when I click Run, I get a single option "drop-down" menu with that option being "run" which if clicked THEN takes me to the typical drop down menu of recent programs. Other times, I get a context menu which includes the Run option.
With that in mind, I'm wondering if replacing the touchpad assembly is likely to fix my problems or if anyone has any other suggestions other than to not spill beer on your laptop.

replacing the touchpad assembly should resolve the issue. however, i am unable to guarantee that it will.
you could try that, or use an external mouse?
do a reinstallation of mouse drivers and use this manual : http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6629_04.pdf .
open the unit and dry it in a dust free room.

Spill on touchpad

Hello all,
This morning, I spilled some coffee on my touchpad and the bottom of the space bar, and right side command and alt keys. Since then, the buttons have been working fine. But the touchpad is not working at all. The cursor was moving randomly, and constantly thinks that there is a finger on the touchpad (ie when I try to move the cursor, it thinks there's 2 fingers moving, so it zooms in and out). But now, it doesn't even recognize anything at all.
I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and how y'all went about fixing it.

This is a very delayed response only to add my experience with my MBP retina and a liquid spill.
I think my good luck was due to the spill being a splash of Jameson irish whiskey. Keyboard had been protected with a cover.
After blotting up the major spill quickly with paper towels, I used some compressed air (possibly not a good idea from reading the other posts as it may push liquid further in), cut some strips of paper (a bit less than 1 cm wide) and slipped them into the seems around the pad. On the side by the keyboard, I was able to advance it under the pad and wick up a bit more of the liquid.
I think I lucked out by intending to drink whiskey and not mineral water. And, no, I hadn't actually started to drink any, yet.

How can I remove the "enter" key from the keyboard? (New Macbook)

I have the last white macbook, I spilled beer in a couple of keys, I managed to removed them without problems, but I can't find the way to remove the Enter Key, and there is no help on internet Anyone?

What characters are you talking about exactly and why would you want to remove any?
There is really no way to modify Apple's keyboards or add your own in iOS, but there are some apps that may provide a work around.

Loaded information from hard drive to new computer without iphoto. where are the photos i had in iphoto?

I spilled beer on an older macbook and it was too pricey to repair. I had the Apple store save all files and information from the harddrive to an external hard drive. I moved all the files and information onto a refurbished macbook. The refurbished macbook does not have ilife, particularly iphoto. All of the photos that I had in iphoto on the old computer are gone. Are they still available someplace? How do I get to them? If I can not access them on my new computer without iphoto can I exchange the old hard drive for the new one? Thank you very much.

The iPhoto library that was on the hard drive of the damaged Macbook will still be there.
I suggest you take the hard drive out of the dead MB and install it in an inexpensive external enclosure. Something like this:

Once you have the drive in the enclosure you can connect it to your new Mac, install iPhoto on the new Mac, and access the library. This step can be tricky, so post back when you are ready.

My Mid 2009 Macbook pro (Just purchased) will not turn on after hard drive change and ram upgrade

So i purchased a mid 2009 Macbook Pro from a guy with 4 gb of ram and 250gb hard drive. It worked perfectly fine when i booted it with his hard drive and ram installed.
I spilled beer in my old computer (late 2009 15" 500gb hard drive and 8gb ram) but took the hard drive to get tested and it worked fine. i later found out it was from a 2010.
Like an idiot i assumed the pro i just purchased would be able to handle the same upgrades that were in my old computer so i threw in the 500gb hard drive (2010) and the 8gb of ram.
The thing booted up fine, just a bit slow which i chalked up to my hard drive sitting unplugged for a long time.
After about 3 minutes it crashed on me. Confused i replaced the 4gb of original ram back into it. (the 8gb ram was pny i bought from ebay so i thought it could be that) It decided not to turn on or show any lights on the front except for the battery meter.
After this i replaced the original hard drive and still NO LUCK!! im really mad because i am in desperate need of the information on my original 500gb hard drive and im afraid i have destroyed 2 computers and about $1K worth of cash out the window.
HELP please enlighten me on what i have done and if the situation can be fixed.

UPDATE: Problem solved with the old hard drive in it, Now the less pressing issue:
Will the computer run my 500gb hard drive with all my information on it? I need to forward a resume and it is on that hard drive.

Hey guys - are there any solutions out there for this problem that doesn't involve hundreds of dollars? A mate of mine spilled beer on a macbook - had to pay for it, I fired it up and everything works fine but the screen... Is there a way that I can check the connections or dry something off? Apple told the owner to throw it in the bin - but it works fine plugged into a monitor. The screen isn't cracked or chipped - all looks fine - I'm guessing that fluid had got into a connection somewhere. Help me Gurus!

How much is it to repair a water damaged macbook pro?

My boyfriend spilled beer on my laptop quite some time ago. I haven't been able to go into the Apple store to get it checked out because I've been so busy. A few of the keys don't work and the backlight (where the beer was spilled) is very dim, other than that it still works perfectly fine. I read online somewhere that you shouldn't turn it on at all until it's been checked out but I've been using it perfectly fine just with these annoying faults. How much will it cost me to have it repaired? In GBP, because I live in the UK.

Went to the Apple store (like you suggested) and it's only going to cost me £135 to repair which I'm so happy about. He said only the top case is damaged but the liquid didn't manage to get all the way inside my computer so it's great news...we would've been forking out hundreds if the liquid had gotten in deeper!
