Splitting the 5.1 optical mbp/imac outputs into 6 analog mono channels?

Hi
is it possible to use the 6 outputs of the optical output of the macbook pro as separate channels?
What do I need to convert/split the signals into 6 analog channels and does Logic/Ableton recognizes the 5.1 as 6 mono channels?
thx!!

sorry to tell you, but no. This is not possible. The 5.1 optical output is only possible by using a special digital encoding that comes with data reduction: AC3. You can't create AC3 streams without relatively large latencies and without buying rather expensive AC3 authoring software components.
However, once you have an AC3 stream you can use ac AC3 compatible audio amplifier to convert it to analog signals. Not very feasible imho. The much simpler and less expensive way would be to buy an audio interface with multichannel support.

  • How to SPLIT ONE STEREO TRACK'S L & R CHANNELS INTO TWO MONO CHANNELS

    Does anyone know if this is possible: How to SPLIT ONE STEREO TRACK'S L & R CHANNELS INTO TWO MONO CHANNELS?  There's got to be a way, but I just can't find out how.
    I recorded a podcast -- me and a guest, with each mic going to its own mono channel. When I opened it in Audition it mixed them into one stereo channel.
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Best,

    You're a big help! Thanks very much.  Simple yet I must be going blind because I didn't see that in the menu.
    Take care and THANKS AGAIN.

  • Is it possible to multiplexe 8 analog sensors output into one PXI4472 channel?? can PXI4472 recognize those signals??

    I have around 64 analog sensors to connect to PXI4472. Instead of buying 8 PXI4472, is it possible to multiplexe 8 analog sensors output into one PXI4472 channel?? can PXI4472 recognize those signals??

    Such a set up is not recommended. Some of the drawbacks are:
    Depending on how you plan to multiplex the signals together (SCXI/PXI switch, 3rd party mux), you could very easily be introducing noise to your system.
    Multiplexing the signals together into one line limits your sampling rate to the switching speed of you multiplexer device.
    You will probably need to spend more time developing handshaking schemes in order for switching and acquisition to occur in such a way that you don't miss signals that you want to acquire.
    These are only some of the drawbacks to this setup. All in all, the only functionality of the 4472 board that you would be left with is it's ability to sample all eight channels at the same time. So, you could multi
    plex all the signals together, but doing so is not recommended.
    However, I have a couple of questions. Do you want to sample all 64 sensors at the same time? Assuming that you are not, how are you planning on multiplexing the signals together? What kind of a chassis are you working with? Please let me know.

    Good Day,
    As the subject declares, I need to be able to out the User Name of the person who is generating/logged in the report on the page footer section of the pld.
    I tried to follow the thread here

    But I am still confused how to perform it, since I am a total newbie w/ no training for PLD.

    Hi Sean,
    That thread is taking about the UDF and FMS.  If you need get the user name on the PLD, that is necessary first step.  You have to create an UDF first and then assign that FMS query.  After this step, you will be able to put this new field on your PLD.

  • Split Stereo Channel Output into Left & Right

    Is there a way to split the output of stereo channel strip (in this case, consisting of an EXS24 sampler, with some samples panned hard left) into two mono channels strips, auxes, or outputs (left and right)? For example, in Pro Tools you can select "Track > Split into Mono" to split a stereo track into two mono tracks, and control each resulting track independently. I'm talking about signal path, not splitting a saved AIFF or sound file. Is there a way to do this within Logic?

    Route the output to a bus, then create two new aux channels and assign their inputs to that bus. At that point, you'll be getting the full stereo output routed to each of your two new channels. To split left and right, click-hold on the mono/stereo button at the bottom of the aux channels, and select "left" on one and "right" on the other.
    That should do it!

  • How can I Split the PDF File into different pages?

    Hi,
    My requirment is to split the pdf file , which is obtained by using FM "convert_otf" , into seperate PDF file for each employee data(PERNR).
    Please suggest me the way to slipt the PDF file that has to be downloaded into the presentation server.

    Hi,
    Ok, looking at that programm didn't actually help me very much to understand what's going on, or where you have the CONVERT_OTF call... Regardless, if the suggestion by Raymond is not feasible in your scenario, the thing I'd try to do is - splitting the spool (OTF) contents before calling CONVERT_OTF into individual documents (feeding it to convert FM piecemeal)... The link to OTF format and commands documentation is here.
    Again, it's difficult to give a good algorithm without knowing the exact OTF contents (could you perhaps somehow export the display of spool in RAW format and attach here?) but it would boil down to approximately following:
    1) set the &first_page per PERNR = 1;
    2) run through OTF lines until the &end_page for PERNR has been identified somehow (hopefully there are Begin/End Form OTF commands '//' in that spool... and they correspond to the split of spool you need...);
    3) extract the otf contents from &first_page to the EP command of &end_page into separate OTF itab and, if necessary, add // (End of form) command at the end of itab;
    4) call CONVERT_OTF on the table and download;
    5) set the &first_page per PERNR = &end page + 1;
    6) repeat from 2) until end of spool OTF data
    Something like that... Depending how the Sapscript translates into OTF, you may also need to prepend a few commands found at the very beginning of the spool to each extracted invividual OTF document...
    I Hope you can get the gist of what I'm suggesting... splitting OTF is definetly easier than trying to split PDF, I feel. It's not ideal solution, because - what if the structure of OTF contents you would be realying on changes for some reason..?
    cheers

  • Can I split the output of my airport to more than one device?

    I have an apple airport connected to my stereo.  This allows me to listen to my itunes library over my household stereo.  I want to hook up a second stereo, with speakers in a different room.  Can I split the RCA outputs so that it goes to a second stereo?

    bayfish,
    edex67 is right that a second AirPort Express would do the trick. It would have the advantage that you could select from the Mac which stereo got the signal, and you could even drive separate signals to the two stereos should you (or your guests) have a second AirPlay source.
    If you want to try the splitter idea, it would likely be cheaper than another Express, but don't buy the cheapest cable, especially for the long run to the second room. If you have the inaudibility problem that edex67 mentioned, you can try turning up the volume on the stereo(s)..

  • Need to split the output into files

    Hi,
    I have a query regarding splitting the output into different files. Please help to resolve that.
    I have have select query query...
    SELECT INDEX_NAME FROM DBA_INDEXES WHERE TABLE_NAME=<Table Name>;
    If it returns less than 4 indexes then we have create one table and have to move those into the files.
    For example...
    File_1.sql
    ====
    index1
    index2
    index3
    If select statement returns more than 4 indexes then we have create 4 files and have to splict those indexes and has to move to those 4 files.
    For example....
    If select statement returns 13 records then...
    File_1.sql File_2.sql File_3.sql File_4.sql
    ===== ====== ======= =======
    index1 index4 index7 index10
    index2 index5 index8 index11
    index3 index6 index9 index12
    index13
    Index no need to be in order in any file and any file can I extra index in it.
    Can be ok if we have any procedure or shell script. Please help me on this?
    We are using 10.2.0.1 oracle db. Please let me know if you need any thing else?
    Thanks
    Pathan

    Are you trying to put the output from SQL reports in different files?
    Some reporting tools can do this.
    You have a couple of options to do this.
    Some reporting tools support the functinality to write to different files.
    Another way is to write a PL/SQL procedure using UTL_FILE, which can open multiple files based on your conditions and to write to them as you need to.
    An older, less elegant solution is to write nested SQL*PLUS scripts spooling to different files with the queries you need. A top level script would invoke the others, something like (untested)
    --in first script
    @subscript1
    @subscript2
    --in subscript1.sql
    spool whatever.lst
    select *
       from dual;
    ...

  • Combined optical digital audio output/headphone out

    What is the "combined optical digital audio output/headphone out"? This is what the output is called that has the earphone picture beside it on my MacBook. I thought this meant that it could take the mini jack out that splits into a/v - yellow, white, red, and plug it into any tv or monitor that has those inputs. I tried it just now, but a no go.
    If the only way to get video is through the mini DVI output what does the "Combined optical digital audio output/headphone out" mean? If I can get video out of it, how can I do it?
    Thanks!

    Hi Trevor Deck: As you have discovered this does not output as a video signal. That jack is strictly for audio. The "optical" portion of it is used to output using a "Toslink" cable to provide "optical audio" to an external amplifier. The DVI port needs to be used to get a video signal to your TV. But be warned if you use the red, white, & yellow method of hooking up the video signal you will probably be disappointed. If your TV has a HDMI or PC input it would be much better. You would then have to get the proper DVI to whatever type adapter.

  • Toslink Optical out of  Sony 707esD CD player into the Audio in/optical dig

    How's everyone? Been a while. I don't have a GB question per say but since this is the forum I know best I'm going to ask my audio question here.
    I'm taking the Toslink Optical out of my Sony 707esD CD player into the Audio in/optical digital audio in port of my March 2009 iMac.
    In System preferences>Sound>Input>Digital in Optical digital-in port I see a signal occurring on the input level meter but I do not hear audio.
    Output is headphones port and is working fine from other sources.
    I see a signal input does anyone know how to hear the output.
    Thanks.

    I found this free app that will let me pass thru.

  • Optical/Digital Audio Output from MacBook

    So I am interested in hooking up my MacBook to my HDTV so I can watch movies with it. I know for video I need to get a mini-DV to HDMI cable. That's easy. But what about audio? I would ideally like to have playback in surround sound. I have read that the headphone audio output also doubles as an optical output. Is this true? If so what cable can I buy and will it output surround sound from a DVD movie?

    Yes, the audio port doubles as an optical in and output. You will need a optical cable from your macbook to your sound system to have surround sound/dolby digital, and when you play the dvd it should automatically convert the output to a digital signal. I have this setup on my iMac and Macbook. I have the logitech Z680 (now Z-5500), and when I play a DVD, the screen on the controller says 'digital'.
    The cable you'll need is a optical audio cable 3.5mm (for the macbook) to a toslink (square shaped with two corners tapered). You can buy cables which are toslink to toslink that come with adaptors for 3.5mm jacks.

  • Optical digital audio output/headphone out

    Does anyone know if there is a way to connect stereo speakers directly (not through a receiver/amp)to the Optical digital audio output/headphone out on a imac? The new 20 inch imacs have a 24watt internal amp which would be plenty for the speakers that I want it to drive. Thanks

    is there an attachment that i have to buy? do i just rip the tip of the cord off?
    Yep, there are two "standard" optical-digital-audio connectors -- the original "square" one is still used in most larger audio/video components. The newer/smaller one, used mainly in portable gear, is exactly the same size as a mini headphone plug. Radio Shack carries adapters/converters and cables of both types (usually at outrageously high prices). For online vendors, try:
    http://monoprice.com (search for "TOSLINK")

  • Combined optical digital audio output/analog line out

    Combined optical digital audio output/analog line out minijack on the new Mac Pro support 5.1?

    Are you asking if it has that?
    http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/specs/
    says:
    Combined optical digital audio output/analog line out minijack
    Which means it does.
    On all but the earlier Mac Pro models, this has been standard since the iMac G5.
    Mac Pros earlier used SPDIF.
    These are now mini-Toslink.
