Spool file size significantly larger in Reader X compared to Reader 7

I upgraded my computer to windows 7 recently and have since upgraded to Adobe Reader X as well. Previously i was using Adobe Reader 7. I have noticed that when i print a particular file through Reader X, it takes almost 10 over minutes to print the file. I downloaded and installed Adobe Reader 7 and that took only 3 minutes.
I am printing to a PS printer. I have noticed that the same file spools to a different file size for both readers. Reader X spools to 22MB while Reader 7 only spools to 3MB. If i select Print as Image in the advanced tab, it prints in 3 minutes for Reader X but at the expense of quality which is not acceptable. Does anyone knows why is this so? Is there somewhere i can read up to know what the difference is between the versions of Reader?
Thank you in advance.

I am having a similar problem also. I have Windows XP machine and we print a lot of PDF file through a print server and it takes a long tim to print depending on the size a 60 page document can take up to 20 min. I have loaded 10.1 reader to see if this would help and it hasn't. I been trying to figure out how to make the printing go faster but i am not having much luck. i have tried printing as image it didn't print faster. I trie Post script drivers it didn't print faster. It has to do so much rendering and then makes a hugh file to the print server. Example the file is 2 meg and it loads to 40 meg on the print server. I which someone could provide some guidance.

  • What can I do for "File size too large"?

    Spent 9 hrs creating a slideshow that I saved.  Closed PSE 11 and reopened and can no longer find the slideshow.  When I select Find, Media type, Project, nothing appears, but there is a gray box in my grid that says "File size too large".  Is this my slideshow and if so how can I recover it?  I am sick as this was a large time investment for my daughter's wedding which is very soon!  Please help if you can.

    I don't know anything about slide shows but if a picture is too large this is just a warning message, if I click a pic with this message it does show up. Have you tried clicking the thumbnail?

  • Xp_smtp_sendmail file size is larger than allowed max sizer of 65536 bytes

    Hi,
    We have a daily routine which generates a text file and runs xp_smtp_sendmail with the @messagefile argument to use the text file in the body of the email.
    It has always worked fine but recently we have been receiving the following error when trying to run it:
      Error: @messagefile "Drive\Filename.txt" file size is larger then allowed max size of 65536 byte
    Funnily enough the file in question is 66,220 bytes so only just big enough to exceed this limit. The file in question is created from scratch on a daily basis so maybe this limit has always been in place
    and we are now exceeding it. My question is can we increase this limit somewhere and if so where? The SQL Statement I'm running is:
    EXEC master.dbo.xp_smtp_sendmail
    @To = '[email protected]',
    @From =  '[email protected]',
    @messagefile = 'Filepath\Filename.txt',
    @subject='Test please ignore',
    @server='smtp.servername.domain'
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone has!

  • MP3 file size too large ?

    Hi all,
    I purchased the C3 to replace my older 6300 a couple of days ago.
    It seems that my C3 problem discussed in another topic is almost similar.
    I placed a 1Gb memory card and works just fine. I can approach and play all MP3 files on it.
    But the option to use an MP3 as a ringtone is greyed out.
    Tried to get it to work through personalizing profiles gives me the error message : file size too large ! Everty time and no matter which MP3 I choose. The file size is 4.3 Mb.
    I tried editing the file, downsizing it to 770 Kb, but same error message occurs : too large.
    Any other suggestions before I decide to bring this phone back ?

  • HELP!! Very Large Spooling / File Size after Data Merge

    My question is: If the image is the same and only the text is different why not use the same image over and over again?
    Here is what happens...
    Using CS3 and XP (P4 2.4Ghz, 1GB Ram, 256MB Video Card) I have taken a postcard pdf (the backside) placed it in a document, then I draw a text box. Then I select a data source and put the fields I wish to print (Name, address, zip, etc.) in the text box.
    Now, under the Create Merged Document menu I select Multiple Records and then use the Multiple Records Layout tab to adjust the placement of this postcard on the page. I use the preview multiple records option to lay out 4 postcards on my page. Then I merge the document (it has 426 records).
    Now that my merged document is created with four postcards per page and the mailing data on each card I go to print. When I print the file it spools up huge! The PDF I orginally placed in the document is 2.48 MB but when it spools I can only print 25 pages at a time and that still takes FOREVER. So again my question is... If the image is the same and only the text is different why not use the same image over and over again?
    How can I prevent the gigantic spooling? I have tried putting the PDF on the master page and then using the document page to create the merged document and still the same result. I have also tried createing a merged document with just the addresses then adding the the pdf on the Master page afterward but again, huge filesize while spooling. Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated :)

    SYMPTOMS
    When you print a document that contains lots of raster data, the size of the Enhanced Metafile (EMF) spool file may become very large. Files such as Adobe .pdf files or Microsoft Word .doc documents may contain lots of raster data. Adobe .pdf files and Word .doc documents that contain gradients are even more likely to contain lots of raster data.
    Back to the top
    CAUSE
    This problem occurs because Graphics Device Interface (GDI) does not compress raster data when the GDI processes EMF spool files and generates EMF spool files.
    This problem is very prominent with printers that support higher resolutions. The size of the raster data increases by four times if the dots-per-inch (dpi) in the file increases by two times. For example, a .pdf file of 1 megabyte (MB) may generate an EMF spool file of 500 MB. Therefore, you may notice that the printing process decreases in performance.
    Back to the top
    RESOLUTION
    To resolve this problem, bypass EMF spooling. To do this, follow these steps:1. Open the properties dialog box for the printer.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click the Print directly to the printer option.
    Note This will disable all print processor-based features such as the following features: N-up
    Watermark
    Booklet printing
    Driver collation
    Scale-to-fit
    Back to the top
    STATUS
    Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
    Back to the top
    MORE INFORMATION
    Steps to reproduce the problem
    1. Open the properties dialog box for any inbox printer.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Make sure that the Print directly to the printer option is not selected.
    4. Click to select the Keep printed documents check box.
    5. Print an Adobe .pdf document that contains many groups of raster data.
    6. Check the size of the EMF spool file.

  • Slow Performance or XDP File size very large

    There have been a few reports of people having slow performance in their forms (tyically for Dynamic forms) or file sizes of XDP files being very large.
    These are the symptoms of a problem with cut and paste in Designer where a Process Instruction (PI) used to control how Designer displays a specific palette is repeated many many times. If you look in your XDP source and see this line repeated more than once then you have the issue:
    The problem has been resolved by applying a style sheet to the XDP and removing the instruction (until now). A patch has been released that will fix the cut and paste issue as well as repair your templates when you open them in a designer with the patch applied.
    Here is a blog entry that describes the patch as well as where to get it.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/livecycle/2009/03/post.html

    My XDP file grow up to 145mb before i decided to see what was actually happening.
    It appears that the LvieCycle Designer ES program sometimes writes alot of redundant data... the same line millions of times over & over again.
    I wrote this small java program which reduced the size up to 111KB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (wow what a bug that must have been!!!)
    Here's the sourcecode:
    import java.io.BufferedReader;
    import java.io.BufferedWriter;
    import java.io.FileNotFoundException;
    import java.io.FileReader;
    import java.io.FileWriter;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class MakeSmaller {
    private static final String DELETE_STRING = "                           <?templateDesigner StyleID aped3?>";
    public static void main(String... args) {
      BufferedReader br = null;
      BufferedWriter bw = null;
      try {
       br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(args[0]));
       bw = new BufferedWriter(new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(args[0] + ".small")));
       String line = null;
       boolean firstOccurence = true;
       while((line = br.readLine()) != null) {
        if (line.equals(DELETE_STRING)) {
         if (firstOccurence) {
          bw.write(line + "\n");
          firstOccurence = false;
        } else {
         bw.write(line + "\n");
         firstOccurence = true;
      } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
       e.printStackTrace();
      } catch (IOException e) {
       e.printStackTrace();
      } finally {
       if (br != null) {
        try {
         br.close();
        } catch (IOException e) {
         e.printStackTrace();
       if (bw != null) {
        try {
         bw.close();
        } catch (IOException e) {
         e.printStackTrace();
    File that gets generated is the same as the xdp file (same location) but gets the extension .small. Just in case something goes wrong the original file is NOT modified as you can see in the source code. And yes Designer REALLY wrote that line like a gazillion times in the .xdp file (shame on the programmers!!)
    You can also see that i also write the first occurrence to the small file just in case its needed...

  • Target File Size Too Large?

    Hello,
    We have an interface, that takes a Source File-> Transforms it in the Staging Area ->and outputs a Target File.
    The problem is the target file is way too large than what it is supposed to be.
    We do have the 'Truncate Option' turned ON, so its not duplicate records..
    We think its the Physical and Logical Lengths that are defined for the Target files.
    We think the logical length is way too large causing substantial 'spaces' between the data columns thereby increasing the file size.
    We initially had the Logical Length for the data columns as 12 and we got the following error:
    Arithmetic Overflow error converting numeric to data type numeric.
    When we increased the Logical Length from 12 to 20 the interface executed fine without errors. But now the target file size is just way too large 1:5
    Any suggestions to prevent these additional spaces in the target columns??
    Appreciate your inputs!
    Thanks

    Since 'File-system' does not have a property 'column length', ODI will automatically set a standard 'column length' according to the datatype of the column. In your case, as both your source and target is File, check the max length of each column in your source ( Ex: if your file is huge then open the file in excel and verify the lengths) and set the same 'Logical length' for your target file datastore.
    drop the temporary tables (set the 'delete temp objects' option to 'true' in the KMs) and re-run the Interface. hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Parasuram.

  • Numbers file sizes very large

    I've noticed that file sizes in Numbers are very large. I was using Excel for a long time and all the files I created were between 20-30KB. The files consisted of an Excel workbook, with 1-2 worksheets in it. The same files in Numbers are 200-300KB and if I save them over the network from another computer to my computer, they jump up to over 1MB. Any ideas on this?

    Hello
    Nothing to do with graphics items.
    An XL file as well as an AppleWorks one is a compiled document in which many components are stored in a very compact shape. One byte was sufficient in AW to represent an operand as they where aboutone hundred.
    In Numbers, everything is described in pure text with complementary delimiters.
    When a formula uses the operand "COUNTBLANK" this one appears with its 10 letters.
    In XL as well as in AW6, a date is stored as a floating number while in Numbers it's stored as the string "mercredi 23 janvier 2008 22:33:19"
    Sama thing for every attributes of every cell.
    So this results in a huge file store in XML format. To spare space, when we close a document, the XML file is packed in .gz format.
    This is the Index.xml.gz file that we may see clicking a Numbers document wit ctrl depressed and selecting the contextual menu item "Show Package's contents".
    Double click onto Index.xml.gz will unpack it.
    giving the expanded Index.xml file.
    I assumes that they are applications dedicated to XML files.
    I don't know them so I just drag and drop the XML file onto a free text editor named Bean which I find really interesting.
    Doing that, we may examine the file's contents.
    If someone knows a correct free application able to open and display correctly the XML files, I'm interested

  • Imovie file size too large

    Created 22 min. film clip (from dvd camcorder tape.) in imovies and sent to iDVD, States file too large and need to delete some of it. Looked at project & file size, states it's 14,000 minutes long or 42GB. Have I duplicated something or what. Have been unable to get handle on this to complete project.
    Have thought I might have to go back and delete bunch of clips to try resending...but want to understand whats going on. help appreciated.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   20" iMac 2.16Ghz intel core 2 duo, MacOS 10.4

    Hello,
    I'm pretty new to using a camcorder and importing the footage it into iMovie and iDVD. I was wondering this: does it seem normal that a four minute video in iMovie would = 836MB? I knew video took up a lot of memory but I didn't think it was quite that large. I took the video with my Sony HandyCam MiniDV (model HC-48). It was recorded in the 16:9 format, SP mode.
    Second question, I agreed to record a wedding for a friend and she would like me to take quite a lot of footage. I'm thiking I could end up having 6 hours of video on MiniDV tapes by the time I'm done (before editing). I have a limited amount of HD space left on my iMac G5 (aprox. 36GB), would you recommend importing the video in smaller sections, editing it, burning it to DVD (as a themed movie) and then repeating that method? Or would it be a much better idea to get a 250GB external hard drive and set it up to be able to give me the extra 'head room' I need for the editing and finishing process? Do you have any good recommendations for an external (FireWire) hard drive brand that works well with Macs, but is also affordable (I'm not really hoping to drop a lot more money into this project)?
    Sorry to throw so many questions at you in one post. This project has mushroomed WAY beyond what I first thought it was going to be so I'm trying to get ready for this in a hurry (wedding is two weeks away).
    Thank you for any insights you can offer.

  • .flv file size too large

    I recently purchased the Premiere Pro CS3 upgrade in order to produce flash video for our website because I was told Flash is the way to go for video delivery. We have used Real Media for a while to provide our audience with both the option to stream the video or to download it, but for several reasons I wanted to move away from that format.
    However, I have to say I am disappointed in the results I've gotten with my first .flv encoded movies. The file sizes I'm getting for decent quality video are around approx 140 MB compared with approx 75 MB for the same clip when exporting to Real Media (.rm file). That's nearly twice the file size and the quality is even a little worse than the smaller Real Media file.
    I am running Win XP and exporting finished high quality 80 minute .avi clips (yes, very long, but shortening the clips is not an option)to Adobe Media Encoder>Adobe Flash Video (I'm using the "NTSC Source to 256kpbs" preset, using the "On2 VP6" codec, with a bitrate of 200). Our priority is High Quality video but at the same time it would be nice to have a reasonable file size too. I simply don't understand why the file size is so large compared with Real Media when the quality is roughly the same. Am I doing something obviously wrong. Please help.

    It's worth playing with keyframes, possibly increasing the number between them by a substantial amount. I'm also a little surprised that a 256k preset would have a video bit rate of 200. That strikes me as a little high by the time you add in audio and try and cram it down a congested 256k line.
    Do you have the settings you're using to export the Real files? Real 10 is a great codec as far as quality/bit rate. It's just a pity it lacks in other ways.

  • File Size TOO LARGE with linked files

    Recently, I am working with illustrator CS6.
    After inserting quite a lot of linked images (without embadding), the file size becomes much larger, up too nearly 400MB.
    I saved without pfd competatble funcion already, but the file size is sill verry large
    I did not face the same problem working with CS5 before, is that a bug for CS6?
    or are there any suggested ways to solve?
    THANKS

    Are you "Placing" the image files or are you copying and pasting the files as so-called smart objects where they come in on their own layer?  See if you can flatten the file.  Another option is build the images in Photoshop and bring them in as one image.

  • PDF file size too large

    Hi,
    I have a report (6i and 9Ids) which contains an image (stored as a blob in the database (8i)). The size of the image in the database (and as a file) is just 750k. The image is sized to fit on to the A4 report page. If I set the desformat of this report to PDF the resulting PDF output file is 10mb in size. I need to make this report available over the web so this is too large. Has anyone got any ideas as to reducing the output file size?
    I have tried the pdfcomp report parameter with no joy.
    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
    The image you are using might be a JPEG image. In 6i and 9i, while generating the PDF file, Oracle Reports always converts the image to GIF and embed it. This image type conversion increases the file size of the outputimage and hence PDF file size increases. This is fixed in Oracle Reports 10g.
    In Oracle Reports 10g, you can select the outputimageformat based on your need, using either:
    1. commandline: OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT
    (or)
    2. environment variable: REPORTS_OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT
    If your image in the database is a JPEG image, set the outputimageformat to JPEG. Hence, there will not be any image type conversion and the PDF file will be very small.
    Please refer to the Publishing Reports manual to know more about the usage of these commandline/environment variable.

  • Excel output file size is large - How to make it small in size?

    Hi,
    An Excel file out put is too large when I get it from application. If I copy and paste the same content in an excel sheet , the size is too small.
    How can I fix this?
    Excel output size from application - 12.4 MB - 4500 records
    copy paste file size - 827 KB
    Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2
    BI Publisher Desktop Version - 10.1.3.4.2
    Thanks in advance.

    BIP generates an XHTML output with mime-type xls and thus Excel is invoked when it is downloaded. XHTML is text and therefore it is lenghty. When you copy and paste it in Excel you save it in binary format and compress.
    My suggestion is create an excel template instead of rtf. Not sure if this is possible for EBS (open a ticket with Oracle Support to confirm you can use excel templates in EBS the version you have).
    Reference:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/entry/real_excel_templates_i
    In this way your output will be a truly binary file with size much more smaller.
    regards
