Spotlight not working after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Spotlight has not been working properly since I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I only get partial results. I can see files in Finder that Spotlight is not picking up. It does not pick up most of the items it should.
I've reindexed and that doesn't help.
It worked perfectly before the upgrade.
Does anyone have a fix?

Try adding every drive to Spotlight's Privacy Pane in System Preferences>Spotlight, wait a few minutes & remove them, then wait a few hours/days to see if it's better.
Though slower, in the intterim, you might try...

Find Any File...

I've actually disabled the worst Searh utility/Function I've ever seen on most of my Macs, just keep Spotlight active on a couple to try to assist with all it's problems.

    I'll try your suggestions....Thanks!
Recently, I try to Re-install Snow Leopard, unfortunately, still unsuccessful.
The Mybook Icon only appears if it is connected via USB.
After using Firewire and getting used to the speed...USB 2.0 is like a Corvette racing a Veyron...lol
I am not upset on these issues, it is normal for new OS to have these problems...unfortunately, even OSX is not invincible.
I'm sure Apple/Steve is on every Programers A*s for a solution.
I still think APPLE'S OSX will still be the future of Operating system!
For now, still waiting for the patch and hopefully soon.
Suggestions are still Welcome for a Solutions:-)

  • Titles and Transitions doe not work after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I can not get my Titles or transitions to work in iMovie any more after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
Everything goes to a black screen. I am having problems with final cut express also. Anyone have an idea when there will be a patch to fix this? I would hate to have to down grade.

Holy *&$^, no kidding. I mean this is bad. I can't really do anything on iMovie at all. I really hope there is a simple solution to this, b/c if this really is part of a bad release, Apple will not hear the end of it.

  • Sleep indicator light not working after upgrading to Snow Leopard

Hello all, I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my mid-2007 Macbook Pro (Macbook Pro 3,1, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM) and after the upgrade the sleep light no longer comes on when I shut the lid or when the display is powered off.
Not a huge deal, but might be an issue if I can't remember if I shut the computer down or put it to sleep last—I did not do a clean install, but would anyone happen to know something I could try before resorting to that?
Thanks, your help is much appreciated!

Have you tried Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)?

  • Weather widget not working after upgrade to Snow Leopard (Australian areas)

The weather widget is not working since I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
The feed seems to have changed from Accuraweather or something like that to Yahoo!Weather, and Yahoo!Weather seems to have problems (at least concerning weather data feeds from places in Australia).
I live in Kempsey, New South Wales (Australia). I can't input that address, because it won't validate. When I try typing my address in the widget autocompletes with "Kempsey, Austral Eden, New South Wales (Australia)" (FYI, Austral Eden is a rural parish near Kempsey, but Austral Eden is not in Kempsey and Kempsey is not in Austral Eden). That address will validate, but there seems to be no weather feed: ie. I don't get any information displayed in the widget.
The nearest address that will validate correctly is "Port Macquarie, New South Wales (Australia)". The Yahoo!Weather feed doesn't provide any information about that, either.
I can get a weather data feed for Canberra. But Canberra is 800 kilometres from here.
I think I want to change back to AccuraWeather. How would I do that?

I'm annoyed by this as well.
I was planning on buying my father the Snow Leopard upgrade for Christmas, but there is no way he'll want it without a working Port Macquarie weather widget. ( I'm not kidding! )
I've looked at the AccuWeather widget as well, but it is really ugly!

  • Logic not working after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I resisted upgrading to Snow Leopard while working on a few projects and just did yesterday. As feared, Logic is not working. It goes through the opening sequence and then when I try to open a project it crashes. I;ve tried rebooting. Same problem. Any ideas? Do I need to reinstall Snow Leopard? Or am I faced with reloading Logic? Any local caches I can delete to try and reset it on next start? Thanks so much.

Did you check out the links?
The first link I posted specifically says upgrading to Snow Leopard.
    Here it is again.

It may not be the solution but the fix is for Snow Leopard.

  • USB Mouse on Hub not working after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Recently upgraded Macbook Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Had a mouse and external HD attached to Mac via a USB Hub. After upgrade, HD is recognized and works fine (use it with Time Machine). Mouse will not work through hub, but is recognized by the system. Mouse is a simple wired USB device and functions fine (works when connected directly to the Mac).
Any idea what might be wrong or what needs to be done to allow the mouse to work again?

Yes it is a powered hub.

  • Canon MP560 not working after upgrade to Snow leopard

    Hi there
I'm writing in the hope that someone maybe able to help! Yesterday I upgraded my MacBook to snow leopard. Everything seems to have gone OK, however, my printer -- Canon MP560 is now not responding. When I go to print it says' /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed'.
The blue WiFi light is on, but nothing happens! I would be so grateful for any advice as I really don't have any idea of what to do !!!
    Thanks In advance

Have you installed he most recent Canon Printer Drivers via Software Update?
Have you tried going to the "Print and Fax" pane of the system preferences, and Control-clicking into the panel at the left that would normally show installed printers?
If not, do that and if the cursor spins, wait until it stops, and the MP560 should show up as a Bonjour Printer/Scanner. Then click "+" to add a printer, then "more printers" and then select "Canon IJ Networking". The MP560 should no longer be an "unsupported printer."

  • GCC Elite 21n+ Printer Stop working after Upgrade to Snow Leopard

GCC Elite 21n+ B&W Laser Printer no longer works after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
A back-up HP 2015DN Printer works intermittently. It will not work with ethernet cable connected to Net Gear Ethernet Hub (model FS105). But will work most of the time when ethernet cable is connected directly to back of computer.
Back to GCC printer. Just cannot get it to work.
But I cannot figure out what the IP address is for the GCC printer. Tried 192.168.1.4:9300
See post (discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10127869). Still did not work.
GCC tech have this work around. Here is what I received from GCC via email.

+Since Apple has made the decision to eliminate Appletalk from it's Operating System, you are now forced to set the printer up over TCP/IP. Please keep in mind that GCC has never provided drivers for the Mac. We use the Apple Built in Print Driver. We do provide an OS X PPD Installer located on our website that I recommend you download, unstuff, install, reboot your Mac, then add the printer. You can find the Installer at http://www.gccprinters.com/support/doc/ Click on the Model of your printer and download the OS X Installer. DO NOT download the Applications Folder.+
+You will need to set the printer up over TCP/IP, which means you will need to pull the IP Address of the printer from the Printers Configuration Page. Once you've done that, please do the following:+
+You can add the printer over IP, that should work fine. Here are some steps for you to take.+
+1) Select 'System Preferences...' (4th item) from the 'Apple' menu. The 'System Preference' panel will appear as a new window.+
+2) Click on 'Print & Fax' icon (second row 'Hardware', second icon from right side). The 'System Preferences' panel will change into the 'Print & Fax' panel without opening a new window.+
+3) Click on the '+' button to add a printer (2/3 the way down on the left side on the 'Print & Fax' panel). The 'Add Printer' dialog will open in a new window.+
+4) Select the 'IP' icon in the top row of the 'Add Printer' dialog.+
+5) Next to 'Protocol' select LPD Line Printer Daemon.+
+6) Next to 'Address' type in the IP address you assigned to the printer. The Mac should prompt "complete and valid address".+
+7) (Optionally) Next to 'Name' set the name of the printer to something friendlier. Normally it defaults to the IP address enter in the previous step. The 'Name' is what the printer is called in the print dialog.+
+8) (Optionally) Next to 'Print Using' change/verify the PPD.+
+9) Click 'Add' in the bottom right corner. After a few moments the 'Add Printer' dialog will close.+
+10) The printer added in the previous step will appear in the list on the left side of the 'Print & Fax' panel. Click on the close box in the left-top of the 'Print & Fax' panel.+
+11) Done. You should be ready to print.+
Still cannot get the GCC printer to work or discover its IP address. Printer's Configuration page says
TCP/IP: Enabled IP address: Unknown subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
When I download the Drivers from GCC Web Site I only get a Text Document with loads of meaningless
gibberish. There is nothing to unstuff and install.
All worked well with OS 10.5.
    Thanks for shedding any light.
    John L.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello John,
At this stage you will not be able to get this to print until the printer has a valid IP address. According to your post, the IP address setting is enabled but the actual IP address is unknown. This is most likely a result of the GCC being set to DHCP but if there is no DHCP server or router capable of assigning the printer an IP address, then it will not get a valid address.
So, the first thing I recommend is you check the documentation for manually setting an IP address into the printer. This address needs to be in the same subnet as your Mac. If you check System Preferences > Network on the Mac, you will see your IP address and subnet mask. If the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, then you subnet will be the first three sets of numbers. For example, a device with an IP address of 192.168.1.12 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a subnet of 19.2.168.1 and a network address of 12. Ideally, so that other devices can communicate with this device, they also need a subnet of 192.168.1 but a different network address, any number between 1 and 250 but one that is not already being used by another device, such as 12 in this example.
Once you have the IP address set in the printer, then you add the printer as the GCC tech stated, using IP > LPD for the protocol. Note that you will only need to enter the IP address, such as 192.168.1.4 as per your post example. Don't enter any other numbers, such as the 9300 port reference you have tried already the colon after the IP address followed by the 9300).
For the Print Using, you can use Generic PostScript to begin with as a test. If you then wanted to use the GCC PPD, then the link is okay. When you select the 21+n the next page shows the 21+ installer for OS 9 and OS X. This is a stuffit packed file so you will need some form of Stuffit (Stuffit Expander is a free download) to unpack the file first. Once unpacked, there is most likely an installer that you run. This will copy the PPD files for the printer to the appropriate folder.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you require more help.

  • My Creative SBS250 speakers no londer work after upgrading to Snow leopard.  Where can I find the driverinstalling

My Creative SBS250 speakers no longer work after upgrading to Snow Leopard.  Where can I find the driver?  Thanks

Everyone in my household who has upgraded to Snow Leopard has had the same problems with program crashes and the computer "forgetting" registration codes.
In fact, after re-entering codes, and then upgrading to 10.6.1, we had to re-enter them again because it forgot (again) that we had bought/registered the software. It was a lot of fun digging through old emails and such looking for the codes, let me tell you.
I'm pulling a Vista and downgrading my computer back to 10.5.x. That was stable and remembered my software, at least.

  • Mail Notes "Hidden" after upgrading to snow leopard

I have a ton of "notes" in my mail program and after I recently upgraded to snow leopard, none of them appear under my "Notes" mailbox. However, they do still exist in the my inbox when I search for them (since whenever a new note is created or edited, it appears as a new email). So in other words, my notes are not gone, they just don't show up in my notes box. Does anyone know how to make them reappear in there? Thanks

Quit Mail and try trashing the ~/library/caches/com.apple.mail folder then restart, empty the trash and relaunch Mail. Might work. I've had success with this when the trash is "hidden"

  • Home sharing does not work after update to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9

I am using home sharing since about a year without any problems. After updating to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 it suddenly does not work anymore.
On my iMac and my Mac Book Pro I get error code 3259 and it tells me to check my firewall and to enable Port 3689.
I did not change anything in the firewall settings, itunes on both allows data traffic in both directions. I also do not find any option to activate a port ( also wondering why this is suddenly now necessary)
I deactivated home sharing on both machines and enabled it again. It still does not work.
On both machines iTunes displays the the library on the left side but like said it is not accessable
With Finder I can access the other computer from both machines without any problem.
Any help to solve this would be very much appreciated

first of all, if you are behind a router firewall, and have your network secured (WPA2 and a long, non-dictionary password made up of letters and numbers), you don't need the software firewall on your Mac(s).
@ least turned if off for troubleshooting purposes.
turn home sharing off on both computers, and make sure
    (a) both Macs have access to the internet
    (b) iTunes on both machines is authorized for the same iTunes account.
turn home sharing back on on both Macs.
    does it work ?

  • Apache won't work after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Today I have upgraded to Snow Leopard. Previously I have used 10.5.6 (Leopard). In Safari I get the following message: "Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again." Does anybody know how to fix this issue? Thank you.

    HI,
Do you have web sharing turned on?
    System Preferences/Sharing.
Try posting in the Mac OS X Technology Forum also.
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=735&start=0
Also, did you repair permissions after the upgrade? If not..
Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is at least 10% available disk space, 15% is better.

  • Applications fail to work after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I can't believe how poor a job the upgrade is! Ok, Snow Leopard installed ok and saved me a good bit of space. It also boots a lot quicker too. But.....
..what is the point of all of this if it no longer opens my applications without crashing every time??! I wouldn't mind if they were old but the apps are mostly the latest versions, and are even Apple products too! E.g. Final Cut Pro.
Also, the apps that do open are now asking me for the registration codes all over again. If this was meant to happen then a heads up would have been nice
    Apple.
I would prefer the slower Leopard with all my apps working than this upgrade where I can't do anything!
What kind of upgrade do you call this Apple??? I hate to say it but Microsoft might well have done a better job! Will Apple be resolving these issues soon?
Any one else having problems with applications?
    Anyone found a solution?
Anyone know how to backout the upgrade?
Many thanks from a very disappointed Apple fan.
