Spotlight's mdworker not indexing certain files

Hi!
I've got a few files that doesn't seem to get indexed by spotlight or spotlight simply doesn't want to include it when searching, I just rebuilt spotlight's database with no effect. I've looked around a little but can't really find anything that has helped.
The files comes from a 10.4 intel imac and if I duplicate the file and try searching again the duplicate comes up but not the original file. I get no reports in console and everything seems fine, just that spotlight doesn't want to show the file.
Any thoughts or ideas, or even better: solutions, are welcome, thanks.
P.S. I also got this error, but it might just be because the files i am experimenting with has a quotation mark (") in its name so that's probably another topic by itself:
2009-07-03 21.30.54 mds\[1707\] (Error) Task: QueryOpen failed (-1) for store 8FCED42D-7325-4312-B1EC-587472531288

  • TREX is not indexing certain excel files

    Hi Experts,
TREX is not indexing certain excel-files correctly. I get a "no message found error" (14047) Trex: Preparation failed: index operation by certain excel files - but not by all. I found out what they have in common: some have filters activated and some have a lot of columns or rows.
Is there any way to avoid these errors and index them correctly?

  • TREX not indexing Excel files

    Hi all,
We are getting the following error when trying to index some MS Excel files:
14011 - Filter: The file is password protected or encrypted
We are using TREX 7.10 rev 34.
We have found that the cause of this is when the Excel file has been set to protect the worksheet with a password (in Excel, go to Tools -> Protection -> Protect Workbook -> set password). It seems odd to me that TREX cannot index a file like this because it should be able to open it. I would think that it only would have problems if it were trying to write to the file (which it is not trying to do).
Does anyone have any ideas as to why it's like this or what can we do about this other than remove the workbook password? We have dozens of files like this, and I need to find a solution other than removing the password.
    Thanks!
    -StephenS

    Hi Stephen,
I couldn't find any release note specific to this issue however I do know that there are newer filter versions available in the most recent TREX revisions so the upgrade is usually a good option to resolve such issues. Of course I cannot say for certain if Revision 39 will resolve it without trying to index your specific document on that version myself.
Anyway I know there are some Oracle filter issues ongoing with TREX 7.1 so I think an upgrade to a newer revision may be inevitable at some stage, but  perhaps in this scenario it would be best to wait for confirmation of the exact revision that contains the fix from the TREX experts in your message.
    Kind regards,
    Lorcan.

  • How can I tell iTunes to NOT convert certain files from wma format?

I just got an iPod classic, and downloaded iTunes and it automatically started adding all my music. I have almost 5000 songs that are in wma format, and it started converting them all. Then after it got almost 2000 songs finished, it just stopped. For no reason. So I tried to continue it, and apparently there is no way to just continue where it stopped. It started over at the beginning and is now re-converting all the files it already converted.
It took over 24 hours to convert those first 2000 files. It seems completely unnecessary that it should have to re-convert them all over again.
Is there any way that I can tell it NOT to convert those specific files? I figured that you should be able to right-click the file and say "DO NOT CONVERT" or something along those lines, but that is not an option.
The only other way I've been able to figure out that I could do this is to manually add only the files that it didn't convert last time. But that is over 3000 files, and they are not in the same order on my hard drive that they are on in iTunes so I would never be able to figure out what files were done and what files were not done.
There HAS to be a way to just highlight certain files and tell iTunes NOT to convert them. Hasn't there?
Someone please help me. This is really irritating, and I do not feel like waiting for another 3 days for this to finish. I have other things I need to do on my computer, and it seems that while iTunes is converting, it is making everything else very slow.
    Thank you.

I know they need to be converted, but the problem is, 2000 of the 5000 have already been converted. now it's trying to convert them again. but there is no reason for that. i want to know how to convert the other files that weren't converted yet, without having to re-convert the ones that were already done.
I would move the ones that were done to a separate folder, but I don't know exactly what ones were done. In iTunes, they are the first 2000 or so in the list, but on my hard drive they are not in the same order.
Does anyone else know if there's a way to do this?

  • Illustrator will not open certain files

Certain files that I created in Illustrator will not open when I try to open them. I try to open the file and the AI application opens but the file itself does not. If I right click on the file and select properties, under security it says I have no permissions. However on other files created at the same time I have permissions and they open in AI just fine. thoughts?

That is strange, but if this is on your work computer, your should probably contact your system administrator to set it so that you have permission to use these images.  If this is on your home computer, you should be able to change the permissions on your own.

  • Time Machine Not Saving certain files

    I'm having a recurring problem with Time Machine. It will decide that it isn't going to save certain files or folders. I get this sort of a message;
    Error: (-36) SrcErr:NO Copying /Users/Documents
    Error: (-8062) SrcErr:NO Copying /Users//Documents
The disc permissions are all fine and there's no real reason this should happen.
The only thing I can see that separates these items from any other is that they all state in their Info that I have custom access. Sometimes this will show up as an unknown grayed out user that I can't change, or just a custom access setting.
    Any ideas ?

I am having the same problems. I have done all the recommended fixes from the Troubleshooting. I have run disk utility repair on the external hard drives and a verify on the internal drive. I have reformattted the external hard drive. I have done a full reset on the backup drive. I have excluded it from virus scans. I have set the energy saver to keep the drives running. But I keep getting this message (below). I got it on a file higher in the directory and I deleted that file and now it trips on the next file down. The process that I am trying to do is back up one external drive to another.

  • OS X Yosemite does not index sparsebundle file

I'm running Yosemite 10.10.1 on a mid-2011 Macbook Pro. Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite, Spotlight can no longer find a sparsebundle file I use for storing sensitive documents. The file is password-protected.
I'm not wanting Spotlight to index the contents of the bundle, but I do expect it to be able to find the file on the hard drive. My only workaround is to search for the enclosing folder, and then click the file in the Finder window.
    Anyone have another option?

    Hi,
Here is a copy paste of my Note :
If you need a translation I will do it later today !
    Good luck !
    Bonjour,

  • 64-bit iFilter will not index remote files

I have the 64-bit Adobe iFilter installed on a Windows 2008 Server, and I am using it with Windows Indexing Service to index documents.  I am able to read .pdf documents on the local machine, but I cannot get data from .pdfs on remote file servers (we get data from text documents just fine).  We have been able to do this in the past with the earlier 32-bit iFilter on Windows 2000 and 2003, but not with the 64-bit on Windows 2008.
Has anyone been able to get this to work?
    thanks,

Did you ever figure out the solution to this problem? I am experiencing the same thing.
    Thanks,

  • TREX not indexing some files

    Hi,
When I create an index, this gets to index some documents, but others no.
It gets to index files txt and html, but it doesn't get to index files pdf, doc, xls, etc. It gives the following error: 14021 message not found / Preparation failed.
I already verified the file TREXValidMimeTypes.ini and it seems everything well.

    Hi,
I have also faced same issue and got resolved after setting host name in the URL Generator Service
    Logon to portal as administrator
Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge management -> Content Management -> Global Service -> Show Advanced option -> URL Generator Service
    Then check the Host name.
It should be according to your portal
For example if your portal URL is http://GHIKD.sde.rfd:53200/irj/portal then you need to give host name like http://GHIKD:53200.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App does not upload CERTAIN files

Trying to use the Creative Cloud Desktop app to manage my Adobe Audition Files. The entire folder structure syncs, but individual files keep failing. The desktop app does not show any useful messages, but I found this error in the CoreSync.log file.
    ERROR: Copying file: {"cause":"infected_asset","message":"In the file 'Track 1_004.wav' the signature 'null' has been found"}
This same error goes for pretty much all my files. Now if I take the same exact file and use the web uploader, it succeeds with no issues. My other computers will download the file, and my original computer does not download any duplicates. I tried Adobe's support chat but that was a joke. They said there is no technical support for the Cloud Desktop App and that I need to go to the forums.
Anyone have any idea what's causing this error?

    Hi Kendr1ck,
I wondered if it was related to the files being used when you were attempting to sync them. Were the files you were having difficult with open in Audition at the time? Do they still fail with Audition closed?
    Thanks,

  • Why can I not add certain "files to iPhone because iTunes match enable on this iPhone?"

I have some files on my computer I tried to transfer to my iPhone 3GS. They are mp3s of talks/lectures. No copyright issues. But iTunes tells me that they cannot be added because I have iTunes match enabled on that phone. Any ideas?

iTunes says these files are not eligible for iCloud. So I can't upload them. They are not songs. I've turned iTunes Match off both on my computer and my iPhone. Still cannot add them to my iPhone. Not sure what to do beyond this.

  • ITunes does not import certain files

    Hi everyone,
I had to reinstall my WinXP system and therefore also reinstalled iTunes (v9.0.3.15). Now, when I imported my whole MP3 directory, iTunes did not import some albums without displaying any error message. When I realized that some albums are missing, I tried to import them using drag&drop from the Windows Explorer, using the "File-Import file", "File-Import directory" (or whatever these menu items are called in english...), but nothing works! iTunes simply does... NOTHING. No error, no file imported, no action at all.
The files are fairly typical MP3 files: 192 kbps, 44kHz, ID3v1, ID3v2 both present, no DRM... And the most weird fact is: on my old WinXP system (same machine, but slightly older iTunes version) iTunes did import the files without problems!
I have no clue why iTunes won't import them. Does anybody else have an idea?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    gehho.

    Hi ed2345,
thanks a lot for proposing the MP3 Validator! This fixed my problem. For others having a similar problem: I used this software: http://www.gromkov.com/faq/repair/mp3_validator.html
However, I must say that I am really annoyed about iTunes and Apple. I mean, what kind of design is it when you say: "We do not accept slightly invalid files, although every other player accepts them. And most important: We do not display an error message to the user, so that he/she has to find the problem him/herself! Ha!" This is really extremely bad user experience, and I always thought Apple was known for their innovative path, especially regarding user experience. Pfff...
There are sooo many other things that annoy me; I think I will not buy any Apply product anymore. In my eyes, they have even overtaken Microsoft in being the most user-unfriendly company on the market:
    1) You HAVE to use iTunes to copy files on your iPod instead of just using the iPod as a USB drive. What is this for??? It's just to promote their stupid iTunes which again introduces new problems.
    2) iTunes obviously does not accept ID3v1 tags. It just displays all my MP3s which only have v1 tags as "Unknown". Come on, every other MP3 software supports ID3v1, why does not iTunes???
    3) The import process in iTunes is such a hassle. Instead of being able to observe a directory for new files, you have to add every single new album manually. Of course, only after you validated it... Moreover, you cannot add multiple directories at once using the menu options - you have to do it with drag&drop; and it took me some time to try that.
    4) EDIT: Another point just came to my mind: When importing a whole directory, iTunes is stupid enough to add all files once again, instead of just adding the new files. Therefore, you really have to know which album is missing in iTunes because otherwise you will have lots of files twice or three times or hundred times.
OK, that's enough for now. I am just really pi**ed off because I was playing around with those "invalid" files for about 5 hours. Might also be that it's me who's the stupid one - if so, please tell me. But from a company like Apple, I expect a software which is easily handled even by absolute newbies, and I would not call me a newbie...
Anyway, have a nice day everyone, and happy validating!
Thanks again to ed2345! The comments above were not meant for you! It just came out of my fingers... Btw: As you asked my to pick my interpretation... I would pick "INCOMPETENT" - completely!

  • InDesign not saving certain files

Any idea how to solve the following issues?
I have 6 versions of a 32pp A5 InDesign document, each one a different language. Working on them all yesterday. 4 worked fine, and saved all the work done on them. 2 appeared to be working most of the day, and saved work I was doing in them until about 3pm. However, these both say that they were last saved 2 days previous. Since 3pm, neither of these documents has saved any work done, and I haven't been able to save or close the documents, with or without saving changes. To close InDesign I have to Force Quit. The InDesign Lock Files appear to remain open even though the documents are not open. I have tried saving the documents under a different name, but that doesn't work. The colour of my pasteboard also reset itself to the default colour.
My colleague started getting these issues a couple of days before I did in a similar document she was working on. She did a lot of work on the document one day, and saved regularly. However the next day she went into the document and found that none of her work had been saved, and the document says it was last saved on 14th November! Because of this, she created a new document, and was copying everything from the problem document over into the new one. That appeared to be working initially, however some work she did in the new document wasn't saved, though other work that was done in it later was saved.

They were originally created in QuarkXpress, but then converted to ID CS5.5.
I seem to recall some bugs in the initial German release of CS5.5, but that may not be pertinent.
I suspect this is just creeping corruption from multiple conversions. Best practice when converting from Quark or Pagemaker is to immediately export to .idml to clean up as much crud as possible, and it's safer to export legacy files to .idml as well, then open those for conversion in the new version. We see too many reports of bad things suddenly happening with converted legaicy .indd files.
At this point there may not be much you can do if you are not able to save as (does CC still offer Export to .idml?). When you've given up all hope of saving the current state, if the files are still open, you can try a force quit and reopen ID. Sometimes autorecovery will work and you will have most of the current state, and the ability to save .idml might be restored. It's a gamble, so save for last.

  • Not able to index pdf files (Knowledge Management)

    Hello experts,
Please your help to resolve the next issue. I have configured a KM repository and almost everything is working fine except for the document search. At this moment I'm able to upload and search text files without any problem. But the problem starts when I try to find a pdf file previously uploaded. It seems that KM is not indexing those files.
This is our TREX version 7.00.25.00 Build: 700.25.103353
I have found some references in internet about how this issue could might be  resolved  but neither of them have worked for me.
    - Repository configuration (https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1046846 )
According to this link the problem could be resolved with a correct Repository Configuration but unfortunately their solution is too general and it is not clear enough for a begginer as myself.
    - Excluding File Formats for Processing
According to the SAP Documentation It is possible to control which file formats are to be processed by TREX through the TREXValidMimeTypes.ini file. I checked the file and the pdf files are included in the list of files to be processed.
    Any help is appreciated

  • Aperture does not import jpg:s from certain files.

After reassembled all the programs to a new hard drive in Mac Pro, Aperture does not import certain files with .jpg -photos. Earlier it has succeeded. Changing the photo location does not help. Nor importing as projects. Files are visible when asking to import but the thumbs are not seen on Aperture window.

, I see only the file, where these photos are, not the photo names or thumbs inside the file (Aperture import path).
You mean in the Aperture Import panel the folder, where the jpegs should be, is empty?
Then you may have excluded jpegs from import in your "Import Settings".
Check the above settings in the "Import Settings" options in the "Import Window". I.e-make sure the Raw+Jpeg Pairs option is set to "Both", even if you do not import raws.
After reassembled all the programs to a new hard drive in Mac Pro
Is this new Harddrive your system volume? And are the jpegs you wat to import located on this drive? Or are the on another external volume? If yes, how is this volume formatted?
Have you checked the permissions and ownership of the jpegs?
