I am trying to install Sql Server 2000 at the moment but when i try to connect to local Windows NT server i get this messege http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/3263/connection8rq.jpg and if i go to properties of the server i get http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/1335/properties9dd.jpg. I believe it is trying to log in using my Windows Authications.
Thanks for any help.

As per the error message it seems like the SQL 2000 Services has been stopped running due to login issue. You need to start up the service using a valide login.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa176564(v=sql.80).aspx
Here we have the various ways to start up the services
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa213795(v=sql.80).aspx
Also please make sure that MSDE is installed properly.

How to solve Oracle SQL Developer connection problem ?
Folks,
Hello. I am using Oracle Database 11gR1. The Database Control Console https://localhost.localdomain:1158/em works correctly. I can create a Database and a table successfully.
My OS is Linux and connects to internet successfully.
In order to run SQL statements. we need to use Oracle SQL Developer. I connect Oracle SQL Developer in the following way:
Connection Name: DB1 (this is my database name as well)
Username: SYS (this is the user name I used to login to the Console)
Password: SYS (this the password used to login to the Console)
Connection Type: Basic
Host Name: localhost
Port: 1158
SID: DB1 (this is created during installing the Database)
But the error message comes up: "Status: Failure - IO exception Connection Reset."
Can any folk tell me how to solve Oracle SQL Developer connection problem ?user8860348 wrote:

password: enter_your_correct_password given at the time of oracle installation
role: select sysdba if you would connect as sysdba else select normal for users other than sys
hostname: enter your oracle server hostname or ip address eg:- 192.168.11.12
to find the hostname open terminal/command prompt in oracle installed machine
type ---> hostname
type ---->ping hostname
you can find the ipaddress of the server
port number: 1521 (default) ----> i guess , else check the port number in the tnsnames.ora file under your ORACLE_HOME/network/admin folder
SID: DB1

MS SQL Server 2000 connectivity problems
Hello everyone,
I'm having problems connecting my application to MS SQL Server 2000. I am making a desktop application that is going to read and update a database I have created in MS SQL Server 2000. The problem is I cannot connect to the database from the application. Here are the details:
I have only created a GUI for one table so far. I have created one other class that is used for connecting to the database.
The GUI class is called Products.java and I have created it in Netbeans. The other class is called ConnectClass.java. In the constructor of the Products.java (GUI class), I instantiate an object of ConnectClass. That object in turn tries to establish a connection to the database. Here is the code of the constructor of the Products.java class (GUI class).
public class Products extends javax.swing.JFrame {
private ConnectClass connect1; // declaring the reference variable for ConnectClass
/** Creates new form Products */
public Products() {
initComponents();
connect1 = new ConnectClass(); // instantiating the ConnectClass
The code of ConnectClass.java is as follows:
import java.sql.*;
public class ConnectClass {
Connection connection;
Statement statement;
public ConnectClass()
try
Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DatabaseName=assignment2;User=root;Password=sa");
statement = connection.createStatement();
catch(SQLException sqle)
System.err.println("Error creating connection");
catch(ClassNotFoundException cnfe)
System.err.println(cnfe.toString());
When I run the application I expect that the database should be connected at least. However I get the following message in Netbeans output window:
run:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 6 seconds)
I am using Windows XP Home Edition SP3
The JDBC driver I am using is: Microsoft® SQL Server® 2000 Driver for JDBC™ Service Pack 3
The name of the database I have created in MS SQL Server 2000 is: assignment2
I have given the following settings in the CLASSPATH environment variable: .;c:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib\msbase.jar;c:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib\msutil.jar;c:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib\mssqlserver.jar
I don't know what is wrong. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. If you want to know something more please ask me.

Thanks for the answers. I put the jar file in the jdk/jre/lib/ext folderWhich is exactly what you should not do. That folder is for language extensions, which a Driver is not. Why does everybody find it so hard to take the time to learn the language basics?
and the driver was finally detected but then the program would not connect to the database.Did you configure the server properly. Per default it is not configured to accept network connections.
I tried jtds driver too. I was so frustrated that I installed MySQL instead. Put the jar file in jre/lib/ext folder and then gave the URL and to my relief the database connected. Maybe there are some settings that need to be configured in MS SQL before it can connect. But I could not get it to connect :(The manual would contain that info, btw. -

Oracle/ SQL Developer connection problem.
I have installed Oracle 11 g and SQL Developer, When I open SQL Developer and try to make a new connection ( I name the connection, put a user name in, put my password in), I click on "Test" and I get this error:
Status: Failure - Test failed: Listener refused the connection with the followong error:ORA-12505, TNS: listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor The connection descroptor used by the client was:localhost:1521:ex
Can anyone explain this to me and help me resolve this issue I am having?
Thank you in advance for your help

p.s. I have also tried the user name: Scott and Password: TigerWindows 7 Home ... will have challenges at some point, as Oracle may not be completely compatible with Windows 7.
Aside from that, you may find firewall issues even if you are on the same machine, since the default connection from SQLDeveloper is to use the network (even loopback).
First step is to verify that the database and listener are running and that the database is registered to the listener. TO do that, drop into command line and issue:

XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = FCC003L)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
)and you will note the XE on the left side of the equal sign (which is a network alias), and one XE in the (SERVICE_NAME = XE) line. On YOUR system, the XE should be replaced by whatever you called your database (often 'orcl'). REMEMBER THIS ALIAS;-) and also make note of the host that your entry uses. If your host name changes because of DHCP, you're hooped (for a while).
If the database is registered (shows up in the list), the next step is to make sure a userid is available. You could use 'system' (try to avoid using SYS since it is the master userid and if you mess that up, you mess up all your homework. In a production encvironment, every access to SYS will be audited.
So, let's create a userid called me with (in 11g case sensitive) password 'myself'. Make sure that user is allow to log in (create session) and create a table.

Disconnected from Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - ProductionIf the above worked, you should have no problem accessing the system using SQLDeveloper. You simply use the HOST, the PORT and the SID (alias) or service from the "lsnrctl status" output in the SQLDeveloper fields.
If it did not work, try dropping the "@XE" to see whether you can get in (using the bequeath connection) which is useful for troubleshooting but will not help with the traditional SQLDeveloper connection. If you get in without the @XE (or whatever your alias is) but not with it, most likely either your listener is not up or your firewall is blocking the access to the listener. -
SQL developer connecting problem
Hi,
our remote server has oracle 8 and Oracle 10G. Oracle 8 installs very long before and oracle 10G installs today.
As sql developer cannot support to 8i; when i try to connect to oracle 10G i get the following error. ORA-12505
I have oracle in my laptop and can connect via sqlplus but cannot connect with sql developer.
C:\>sqlplus sys as [email protected]:1521/xxxx
password:
SQL>
Thanks.Hi,
Not sure if you are running two listeners (one for 8i, one for 10g) on that server. When I had problems connecting to 10g XE and 11g running on the same server, each with its own listener, I read that disabling the 10g listener and updating the 11g listener.ora and tnsnames.ora with entries for 10g solved everything. Always use the listener for the newer Oracle release. Possibly you do not have control over the listener configurations on the server, but this is something to consider.
And here is a thread from a different forum with opinions on when single or multiple listener configurations might be preferred (and some info on how to do it):

Windows 2000 connection problems (solved)
I have a Windows 2000 box that was working fine with DSL and cable but when we moved and got FiOS, it didn't work. It has a RealTek RTL 8139(a) PCI fast controller built in to the motherboard that is connected to the port of the back of the Westell 9100em router. The symptoms were very strange: I could ping the router and load the router web page. However, I could not load any webpages outside of the router. DNS was working (lookups were fine and fast) but it seemed like no packets ever came back to me - it was like the TTL was set too small or something - they just died in the ether. Traceroutes would get about a dozen hops out and then time-out. I figured there was a problem with the ethernet controller, so I switched to a 10/100 Hawking USB-to-ethernet adapter. However, this showed the same problem. Then, I switched to a USB wireless adapter. Again, same problem. At this point, it was a total mystery. There didn't seem to be a problem with a particular adapter and I knew it wasn't a problem with FiOS since I had multiple wired and wireless machines (XP,Mac,Linux) in the house with no problems whatsoever.
I had read on these forums some problems people were having with RealTek 8139 adapters: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Problems-with-the-Fios-20-5-connection-speed-in-my-area-d... so I did a google search on "windows 2000 realtek fios" and found this: http://www.testmy.net/t-19923 This was exactly the same problem I was having, so I did what was suggested: Uninstall TCP/IP and the Microsoft services/clients from the ethernet adapter, reboot, then reinstall the protocols and services... And it worked! I can now load up web pages with no problems.
Even though I was a 25/15 customer, I was pretty happy to get a 7/7 service (according to Verizon's speed tests) after not being able to get any http connection at all previously. For the heck of it, I tried the speed optimizer tool: http://www2.verizon.net/help/fios_settings/optimizer/ After rebooting the machine, I am now getting 25 down and 23 up on Verizon's test and 26 down and 13 up according to the speakeasy test.
I guess the lesson for me is that FiOS is unlike DSL or cable - you might not be able to just plug your computer in and have it work optimally or work at all. But if you tweak it just right, it works pretty wellcrichter, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sorry, I don't know what type of encryption (if any) is supported by Windows 2000.

what is your operating system name and version?
check
$lsnrctl status
if the listener is down
start the listener
$lsnrctl start
also check the database is up and running.
and try to connect with correct username,password,role (normal or sysdba) hostname or IP, port number, SID or service name.

SQL Developer Connection Problem (osx)
Hi,
I have a macbook pro with 10.5 and I installed sqldeveloper to acess a db (through a proxy). By clicking TEST I got "I/O exception: The network adapter could not establish the connection". I seems that I have a problem connecting the DB. However with the same connection configuration (username, hostname, port, password) I can connect with sqldeveloper in windows (that I also have installed in my macbook). Does anyone know what can I do? I don't want to use windows...
Thanks.Have you created a TNS entry for your database in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora or using Net COnfiguration Assistant?
Every other oracle install (in a different Oracle Home from that of the Database) cannot connect directly to the database. They need a Net Services to connect.
Also set TNS_ADMIN variable to the the $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin in the wWindows environment so that all Oracle client install can see the single configuration. -
Sql developer connectivity problem
Hi,
I'm finding it difficult to connect my downloaded sql devloper to the oracle. I am doubting if my login details were correct, or there re some other configurations that needs to be done. Please can you tell me how I can get to retrieve my username and password? Also tell me what needs to be at the hostname box and the SID box. Thanks
Herbert.You need a separately installed Oracle database to use with SQL Developer. If you have one at work, ask your DBA for the connection details. If you install one yourself, these details will become obvious.
Have fun,

Sql developer connection problem.
I got this as an error when making a new connection. what should i do?
the error is "the network adapter could not able to establish the connection"Can you ping the server where the database is located? If not, that's a deal breaker.
After you get past that, you'll want to confirm that the SID or SERVICE you have defined in your connection is being serviced by a listener on the server. TNSPing can be used to confirm that from your machine if you have the Oracle Client installed.
If you have a local DBA or other experienced Oracle user, they might be able to help you. -
Integrate TREX with a third-party database MS SQL 2000
Hello GURUS i have a question, how integrate a search with trex into the third-party back-end
stores exacly is a ms sql 2000, my problem is this i have a legacy system in java, this legacy retrieve
information from a database through Querys and we want to optimize searches through TRex, how can connect the trex to this data base
thanks
salvatoreHi Salvatore,
I saw that your looking to find a solution to your problem for a time now and have done some research already.
Unfortunately, there is no out-of-the-box solution to integrate a MS SQL database into KM (unless it is the database from a different portal/KM).
So your solution here is to implement a (simple) Read-Only Repository Manager using this guide: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-cm?rid=/library/uuid/70359931-22c1-2910-9fba-f0142ba18956
Afterwards you can index the repository with TREX.
Hope this answers your question.
Best regards,

Connection problem to SQL Server 2000
I have a local installation of MSSQL 2000, that doesn't seem to use any port as a listener. when checking the log I can see that even though I said it should use a TCP/IP connection, it says it uses a shared memory (I guess the reason is that the installation I did is not for a server but only for running on my machine).
How can I define through BPEL the connection to this kind of MSSQL? can I define a connection that will run on the named pipes of the SQL server?
Thanks in advance.Hi Ophir,
I tried this exercise of connecting to SQL Server myself via jdbc and I wrote a new section for the developer's guide based on it. It was not completely painless. For your specific question the SQL Server Express install sets up connectivity by either 'shared memory' or 'named pipes' by default, but you can easily add a TCP/IP listener (for me via the SQL Server Configuration Manager), which is mandatory for jdbc access. Please see the section 'TCP Port' below.
Not sure if you have it, I am cutting and pasting from the 10.1.2.0.2 DBAdapter guide:
(Oracle® Application Server Adapters for Files, FTP, Databases, and Enterprise Messaging User's Guide
10g Release 2 (10.1.2))
Using a Microsoft SQL Server Database
When using a Microsoft SQL Server database, follow the database connection steps in Chapter4, "Design Time" and use the following information:
MS JDBC Driver
URL: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost\NAME:1433;SelectMethod=cursor;databasename=???
Driver Class: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
Driver Jar: .\SQLServer2000\msbase.jar, msutil.jar, mssqlserver.jar
DataDirect Driver
URL: jdbc:oracle:sqlserver://localhost
Driver Class: com.oracle.ias.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
Driver Jar: .\DataDirect\YMbase.jar, YMoc4j.jar, YMutil.jar, YMsqlserver.jar
Note the following when connecting to a SQL Server database:
User name and password
o
SQL Server 2005 installs with Windows authentication as the default. Therefore, you do not log in with a user name and password; rather, your Windows user account either has privilege or does not. JDBC requires you to provide a user name and password.
According to support.microsoft.com, "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 driver for JDBC does not support connecting by using Windows NT authentication." See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313100
However, the DataDirect driver specification states that it does.
If you use your Windows user name and password, you may see something like the following:
[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Login failed for user
'DOMAIN\USER'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server
connection.[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]
An error occured while attempting to log onto the database.
You must select mixed mode authentication on a clean installation.
o
On a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Express Edition installation, the system username is su and the password is whatever you provide.
Connect string
From the sqlcmd login, you can infer your connect string, as in the following examples:
Example 1:
sqlcmd
1>
jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433
Example 2:
sqlcmd -S user.mycompany.com\SQLExpress
1>
jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://user.mycompany.com\SQLExpress:1433
Example 3:
sqlcmd -S user.mycompany.com\SQLExpress -d master
1>
jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://user.mycompany.com\SQLExpress:1433;databasename=
master
A full URL is as follows:
jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://serverName[\instanceName]:tcpPort[;SelectMethod=cursor][;databasename=databaseName]
Database name
If you must explicitly supply the database name, but do not know it, go to
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data
If you see a file named master.mdf, then one of the database names is master.
TCP port
Make sure that SQL Server Browser is running and that your SQL Server service has TCP/IP enabled and is listening on static port 1433. Disable dynamic ports. In SQL Native Client Configuration/Client Protocols, make sure that TCP/IP is enabled and that the default port is 1433.
JDBC drivers
You must download the JDBC drivers separately. From www.microsoft.com, click Downloads and search on jdbc. You can also try using the DataDirect driver.
Thanks
