SQL Developer and Blocking View of Other Users' Objects
I am using SQL Developer in a classroom environment. My student users can “see” Other Users objects. They cannot modify, but none the less can see the structure and data.
I only want the users to be able to see their own objects. Is there a privilege that needs to be revoked? (In using SQL Plus command line, this was not a problem.)

From sysdba account (sys/system). Run following and verify for that particular user grant is revoked. May be exit from sql developer and log back in or refresh view.
YOu can also potenially revoke all the privs from all non admin uses i.e.r even connect/resource roles and grant them back.
revoke select any table from yourschemaname;
revoke connect from schemaname;
revoke create session from schemaname;
revoke resource from schemaname;
Then just grant privs as need basis
grant connect to schemanme;
grant resource to schemaname;
grant create session to schemaname;

To select data from a table or a view you must use the SELECT sql command. Example to get the data from your view you can
select ZMATNUM,ZMATCUR,ZMATATTR from ZMATERIALAs you have said you are using SQL Developer just execute the above query in your sql developer and it will show the data. Right click the grid and export the data to excel file. -
SQL Developer and TOAD connection.

I am able to see the DDL script for tables using TOAD, but NOT using SQL Developer (2.1.1). Same user, pass, and tnsname file.
They use same tnsname.ora file on my computer. I set basic and TNS connection for SQL Developer.
The connection is from my computer to the server (Oracle 11.1.0.7 EE).

KonstantinI don't think it's a connection issue. There seem to be differences in how Oracle and Toad access system views to show objects. If you search the boards you see it has effected a couple of people. Sometimes they post what permissions they changed to get things to work for them.

I don't think I've seen any official documentation to indicate what privileges need to be granted in order to see them thought. And I think there is a bug that prevents generating DDL for tables owned by other users. I don't know if that extends to generating stored procedure code. -
Grant to a specific user and deny for all other users
I have 100 users. Out of 100 users, i have windows & sql authentication users. I have a view "SQL_CONFIG_V" and want to give access to "corp\abc" (windows authentication user) and "poc" (sql authentication user) and all
system user id's(by default) like sys, information_schema etc. I want to deny all other users to see view defintion or alter this view "SQL_CONFIG_V" except the users that i specified here.You can deny access to those users to the database, or they are have the access but you do not want them to SELECT that specific view? Do the users members of db_owner role?

Just wanted to check in and see if anyone here has feedback on application settings, ColdFusion settings, JBOSS settings or other settings that could help to limit or remove SQL Timeouts and blocking locks on SID's.
We're using MS SQL 2000 with JBOSS and IIS5.
We've been seeing the following error in our logs that starts blocking locks in SQL:
java.sql.SQLException: [newScale] [SQLServer JDBC Drive] [SQLServer] Lock request time out period exceeded.
Once this happens, we're hosed until we remove the blocking SID in SQL. These are the connections to the application.

SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer - domain datatypes
I'm using the SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer (that comes free with SQL Developer) to view a model that was created in Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (the chargeable product). The colums have all been defined using domain datatypes. I have an XML file defining the domains but I cannot see where in the viewer you can import a domian file into or where in the model's directory structure the file can be placed to be read by the viewer. Without this the columns are all showing as datatype 'Unknown'.

- per installation - they are in file defaultdomains.xml in "datamodeler\domains" directory
- per design - they are in "domains" directory under your design directory -
"Per installation" domains are used in your case - "per design" domains are "attached" to design - when you send the design to someone else, they are in design structure.
Your solution - to get defaultdomains.xml file from installation where design is created and to put it in your "datamodeler\domains" directory.

Any way to create a form that allows users to create profiles that can be viewed by other users?
I'm working on a social media site, and I would like to give users the ability to create simple profiles that can be viewed by other users. Is there any way I can do this in Muse CC? Any good resource websites with code I can embed?
Muse form widgets can only email the form submission data to a specified email address for non-BC hosting at this time. For BC with webCommerce plan and above, this should be possible with the help of webApps however, that is an advanced topic and would require some knowledge of CMS and HTML to implement <http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/web-apps.html>.
Also this will not be possible with Muse on its own as Muse outputs static pages only and what you are looking for requires backend technology to work (that BC offers).

Install Oracle XE, SQL Developer, and Toad on the same machine?
I have been trying to install Oracle SQL Developer, Toad, and Oracle Express on my work computer. Installing SQL Developer and Toad was pretty straightforward, and I was able to browse the XE database with SQL Developer. But after installing Toad, problems started. Toad was using Oracle XE's registry settings to locate ORACLE_HOME and oci.dll. So I tried changing the settings for Oracle XE in the registry. Toad now works, but not Oracle XE. And while I was going through this all, I even had a time when I had Toad and oracle xe working, but not SQL Developer. It almost looks like you can choose two of the products, but not all three.
So, my question to the community at large is "Can it be done?". In what directories do you have each product installed? What environment variables do you have set? Where is your tnsnames.ora? What Oracle registry settings do you have set (namely HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ORACLE\KEY_XE)?
I can post my current settings, but I've been through so many iterations that these current settings don't really matter that much.
Here are the details I am looking for

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ORACLE\KEY_XE\ORAMTS_CP_TRACE_DIRI don't use toad, but there should be no reason why you can't install all 3. SQL Developer is a very clean install and affects nothing else. It doesn't add to the path, or create any registry entries except for file associations.
A toad installation should pick up your oracle client (in this case the XE code). I am curious as to why you felt you had to change registry settings. What problem were you trying to fix?
My recommendation would be to uninstall everything, clean the registry and reinstall in the order XE, Toad, SQL Developer. Test in between installations and seek help for problems as you find them. Bear in mind that this is the forum for SQL Developer. QUestions about Oracle XE would be better answered in the dedicated forum, or in the Installation forum, and questions about Toad in a toad forum. -
Sql Developer and Data Guard enabled instance
I have version 1.1.2.25 SQL Developer and when I try to connect to Oracle 10gR2 instance which is data guard enabled and its logical standby it spits few message, and then connects, but data is not visible from any table.
Is there any way to see data and other code while in logical standby instance which only in read only mode?

only and should be available for query.
In TOAD you can see every thing and when you want to

How do I share my itunes and iphoto libraries with other users (accounts) ?

I am trying to share my itunes and iphoto libraries with other users on my powerbook, but I seem to have problems with it.
What is the best way to do it?
Place an alias in my "shared" folder and access this with the applications from the different accounts ? This seems to workt for the itunes library, at least... Or do I have to mess with the righs managent ?
I dont want screw up my nice mac...

I did not think that I would have to mess with my firewall, as long as I am talking of useres on the same computer, but I guess I was wrong.
Your advice helps very much, but only as long as I am still logged in with my user name. I does not work when only my kids are logged in. There has to be a way to use these libraries without the need to log in the user that has created those folders...

You don't have to shut down the computer to switch accounts. All you do is click the Apple symbol in the upper left and choose Log Out and that's it. You can also set up Faster User Switching by:
1. Open System Preferences - Accounts
2. Click Login Options
3. Check the box called "Show fast user switching menu as" then choose from either icon, short name or name.
Then when someone wants to switch users they can. The advantage of this method is if you are have a document open and don't want to close it the document will remain open. If the other user attempts to shut down the computer they can't until you have logged out thereby saving all your data.
A very simple and elegant solution. -
Share and edit notes with other users
Can I share and edit notes with other users in a standard app, e.g. notes, the same way I share my calender?
Sharing of notes will require you to also share contacts, calendars and reminders (in other words, you will be sharing all data).
For a "shopping list", I would recommend you share a reminders list. It is similar to sharing a calendar, but it would keep your contacts and other data separate. Just my opinion. -
SQL tracing and TKPROF tool, how to get object name

I set sql_trace = ture for my session.
Then I use TKPROF (on trace file) to get the explain plan (for my stored procedure). but the explain plan shows obj# (object number), HOW do I get TKPROF to show object name on explain plan (I have checked the SYBEX book, it has no info on that)?
Also can you get explain plan from SQL (without sql_trace) for stored procs, if so HOW?

The client makes the call (e.g. passing the PL/SQL anon block to the server to be parsed and executed).
This is successful. The server returns a zero return code to that client call. This means successful completion of that database call.
The client can now choose to display any message it wants to inform the user of that - from "+hey dude, it worked!+" to "+command completed successfully+" or whatever.
The database does not return a message string in response to that call - only a return code. What the client can do is make another call and request the associated message from the client driver for that return code. In this case, an English language message file (as queried by the driver) will return the message string, "+normal, successful completion+".
