SQL Developer export files not visible

Hi All,
I've started using SQL Developer recently and I am completely new to this tool.
I've noticed a weird problem. All the export files and the folders I create from SQL Developer is not visible from the normal windows. Say I've executed a query and I need to export the output to a file. I right-click on the data grid; select Export Data -> xls/csv (anything) . I get a pop to mention the Location of the file. I click on Browse ; then select the location and then click on apply. I expect the file to be created. But when I go to that folder; I do not find any files.
To add on to my suprise; If i click on open a file and navigate to the above mentioned path; the pop-up shows that the file is present in that folder. But it is not visible from Windows. This is of no use as I cannot use those files.
BTW; version is 2.1.1.64
Note: I've also enabled the option of viewing all hidden files and folders in Windows.
Regards,
Arun

Hi Arun,
If you are using Windows Vista, Windows 7, or higher, and writing to a directory (like C:\, C:\Windows\, C:\Program Files\) that Microsoft wishes to protect from malware or just simple clutter , then you are running afoul of a redirect feature in the OS that puts the unwanted file in a VirtualStore folder for your user name, specifically:
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\<full path where you think the file got stored>See the following for details:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/folder-redirect-in-windows-7/95218744-37e6-40cd-b890-2e647351df16
I just ran across this myself for the case of C:\ and perhaps this applies to your situation also.

Gary

• SQL developer bat file not found?

(possibly this should be posted in another place)
I installed the new Oracle 11.2.0.1 64 bit in windows 2008 sp2 64 bit, the sqldeveloper doesn't work,
D:\app\serv_hyperion\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\SQLDEVELOPER\SQLDEVELOPER\BIN\sqldeveloper.bat
Actually, I cannot find this bat file, this is strange. And I have to refer to the sqldeveloper.exe file, and it looks for a java, and I refer it to a jdk or jre Java, but stilll error happens. what happens? why i cannot find the sqldeveloper.bat file?
when I refer the sqldeveloper.exe to JRE java.exe, the error is: J2SE SDK is not found. If I refer the sqldeveloper to JDK java.exe, the error is Java Virtual Machine is not available. I have 2 issues: the first probelem is I cannot find the sqldeveloper.bat that should exist, the 2nd problem is I cannot start the sqldeveloper.exe no matter if I use JRE or JDK, thanks!

Hello,
Sincerely, I always install SQL Developer separately on a directory whose name specify the Release. For instance, sqldeveloper-2.1.1.64.45.
Because Oracle delivers new release every 2 or 3 months, and it's recommended to do not modifying Oracle Server installation without using OUI.
Then, you can locate the sqldeveloper.exe on this directory and create a shortcut to it.
Afterwards, when you want to install a later release (sqldeveloper x.y.z.aa.bb) you may create another directory for that and import straigthly all the connexions you already defined from the former installation.
By exporting / importing connexions you won't have to recreate them.
By that way, you may have several releases of sqldeveloper and compare them. Sometimes there're differences between them.
For instance, the first release of SQL Developer (1.1) allows connexions to Oracle 8i database while it's not allowed in 2.1.
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

• Error while rendering: Export file not found - what to do?

Hi,
I have been editing my video in four different premiere pro projects (as I got adviced to do from these forums because it's AVCHD clips). I have rendered these four projects and burned to four DVD's (total playtime is around 1.5hours) - which is working fine.
But then I try to import all four projects into one big master project because I want to make a blu-ray iso. The import goes fine (I import like this: File > Import > Choose project > Import entire project)
I export to encore, make the menus etc. and click "build" to start rendering. The problem is that after some time I get this error:
Blu-ray Object: "sequence-name-here/project-name-here.prproj", Export file not found
I have seen this error before while rendering some of the four individual projects - but when I saw them I simply just tried again by exporting to encore from the projects again. This seemed to work - but with the big master project I have tried several times with no luck.
Can anyone help me fix this issue? :)

Yes, I got this too:
For posterity, here is what I have found that completely fixes this error, repeatedly: Clear Encore's cache. Specifically:
Close your Encore project and exit Encore
Go to the cache subdirectory named for your project (ie. if your save file is c:\projects\mymovie.ncor then go to c:\projects\mymovie\cache)
Delete the file "mlf.cache.v10"
If your Encore project contains any Premiere Pro dynamically-linked assets, start Premiere Pro and load at least one of the projects used in Encore. (I have found that this reduces memory usage -- for some reason, Premiere Pro takes up less memory than if Encore spawns the PProHeadless.exe media server to serve the same function)
Restart Encore and load your project
...and wait, patiently, for Encore to re-scan all of your assets and build up the cache again and don't touch it until it's finished. I use Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653) to watch my disk activity and CPU to know when Encore is finished (just hover on the cyan-colored graph and you can see what program is performing the most disk activity). Once it's all finished, I save, then immediately try to build my project again. For proof of concept, my 40GB BD-50 project just built last night after getting this error yesterday afternoon.
If any of your assets are not transcoded before you begin this process, transcode them all, then start this process over again from step one. Clearing the cache does not clear the transcodes.
I hope this helps someone. I was not looking forward to completely re-authoring my project, which I've been working on (on and off) for a few months.

Why are my exported files not going to my email (receipts & business card)? I have used 3 different ones...2 yahoo and 1 hotmail. I have checked spam box also.

For the Receipts app I chose to export the info as a PDF file..an email was requested..I entered info and clicked send. For the Business Card app I chose Send, not Print..an email was requested..I entered info and clicked send. I haven't received anything, not even in my spam folder.

• AddVMOption command in SQL developer configuration files

Greetings developers,
I'm a newbie in database and Java world trying to understand what the Oracle sql developer configuration files do by executing AddVMOption commands. I'm guessing this command is something to do with Jdeveloper. Please enlighten me what the command does.
Regards,
Valerie

Valerie,
Nothing to do with JDeveloper at all.
SQL Developer (and JDeveloper incidentally) are created using Java - the AddVMOption's that you are referring to are arguments passed to the Java Virtual Machine that is used to run SQL Developer. For example, you can use AddVMOption to give more memory to SQL Developer.
Hope this clarifies,

• Blue-Ray Object: "Menu"; Export File Not Found--Any Clues?

Trying to build a Blue-Ray DVD in CS3 (version 3.0.1.008). Project has motion menus and previews without errors. Upon trying to build either a disc or image I get the error
Blue-ray object: "Menu"; Export file not found.
Where "Menu" is the name of one of the sub menus in my project.
Has anyone seen this error? What is an Export file? When and how does it get created?
I have successfully burned this project to a standard DVD format.

I have the pleasure of closing out my own question. I found the following post that was the clue I needed.
http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/145/857374
It would appear that the Blue Ray build process is a lot more sensitive to file naming. I brought into my project a menu that I used as a starting template, I edited it in Photoshop and then renamed it in Encore. During the Blue Ray build process Encore rendered the menus to the original template names, but when it needed them to build the DVD it looked for the files that had the new names I had given the menus in Encore.
Here is the fix. I exported the final menus using the Save as Template function in Encore. I then re-imported them as menus and relinked them to the DVD assets. Everything worked fine from that point on.
The interesting thing is this did not happen when building a standard DVD using the same menus.

• SQL Developer export forgot to check to include semicolons in DDL

Hi,
I used the SQL Developers Export-function (select tables and right click on them, then select export) to backup tables.
However, I forgot to set the 'Abschlusszeichen' (sorry for the german). That apparently means my create table statements are not finished by an ';', and they sinmply don't execute using the @script.sql method, or the sql developers import-function.
One sql-file is 2 GB in size, so I currently have no idea how to edit it and add the semicolons manually. Is there any hope to rescue the data?
I'm running sql developer 3.2.20.09, oracle Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production as well as Windows 8.1
For clarification, this is how the create table part looks:
-- Datei erstellt -Montag-September-30-2013
-- DDL for Table ZZ_BEN_0
CREATE TABLE "PIERUSCHM"."ZZ_BEN_0"
( "BENUTZER_ID" NVARCHAR2(30),
"NAME" NVARCHAR2(30),
"GUELT_VON" NVARCHAR2(30),
"GUELT_BIS" NVARCHAR2(30),
"IST_KORREKTUR" NVARCHAR2(30),
"IST_HALBTAGSKRAFT" NVARCHAR2(30),
"LADE_DAT" DATE
-- DDL for Table ZZ_BEN_1
CREATE TABLE "PIERUSCHM"."ZZ_BEN_1"
( "BENUTZER_ID" NVARCHAR2(30),
"NAME" NVARCHAR2(30),
"GUELT_VON" NVARCHAR2(30),
"GUELT_BIS" NVARCHAR2(30),
"IST_KORREKTUR" NVARCHAR2(30),
"IST_HALBTAGSKRAFT" NVARCHAR2(30),
"LADE_DAT" DATE
-- DDL for Table ZZ_BEN_10

Also i'd like to add that the file begins with table definitions but then contains the actual (and randomly generated) data as well.
You still need to have the file regenerated or you should expect to have problems with ANY method you use to try to automatically 'fix' the problem.
1. No experienced developer that I have worked with would EVER try to execute such a monolithic script because there is virtually NO chance that a 2 GB script will EVER run successfully without an error of some sort. Objects have to be created in the proper order when dependencies exist between them. For example, you can't create an index if the table hasn't been created yet. There can even be circular references that will prevent all objects from being VALID even if they are created.
2. There is virtually NO chance that ANY method you use will put terminators in EXACTLY the right place without causing a problem of some sort.
3. When there is an error the script may continue to try to executed and that usually causes further errors. It also creates garbage objects that are not valid but will keep the script from working correctly the next time since the objects will already exist.
You need to create a SET of scripts that are of manageable size so that you can control the process of executing them in the proper order.
If you don't take the time to do that, up front, you are going to wasted a tremendous amount of time when the script fails trying to cut and paste the pieces you need out of that 'master' script.
There are NO SHORTCUTS: take the time to do it right the first time.

• SQL Developer Data Modeler not drawing foreign key relationships

I'm having trouble with SQL Developer Data Modeler when I importa a DDL that has foreign keys. I export DDL files from SQL developer and choose various subsets of files. Sometimes Data Modeler will not recognize a foreign key if I include say a dozen files in the DDL file, but it will if I include just a few. Worse, even if the foreign key is recognized, sometimes it is not drawn in the Data Modeler and I have no way to make it be drawn. To be specific, I import a file containing the DDL for just two tables -- I see the foreign key! I import a file containing the DDL for a dozen tables including the two, I don't! Is there something I am not understanding about when Data Modeler will draw foreign keys or is the tool simply quite buggy?
Much thanks!
-ttamon

Hi Philip,
I believe I have isolated the problem. Apparently if a field is named "FOREIGN..." it interferes with the tool recognizing foreign keys. Try to import a DDL file containing the following text:
CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_ONE"
( "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"VALUE" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_TWO"
( "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"FOREIGN_NAME" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_THREE"
( "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"VALUE" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"ALT_ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ENABLE,
CONSTRAINT "FK6DF8294F2288190D" FOREIGN KEY ("ALT_ID")
REFERENCES "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_ONE" ("ID") ENABLE
TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
You will discover the foreign key is not recognized or drawn! Now, if you swap the location of the third table (put it up first) everything works fine. This is how I discovered the problem, various subsets would work, others would not. To confirm the problem is with the field named "FOREIGN_NAME" use the DDL as specified above but change the first letter in the word "FOREIGN" to something else, and it will recognize the foreign key. Looks like a bug to me (took me about 4 hours to isolate this!). I am using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 2.0.0 Build 584.

• SQL Developer Export hangs - version 3.2.20.09

Hi,
I installed SQL Developer Version 3.2.20.09 Build MAIN-09.87 and try to export a query into csv file,
it hangs after writing 100 rows, I don't see the file grows on OS, the progress-bar keeps saying 100 row
I also tried .xls format, the problem remains.
the downloaded file is sqldeveloper-3.2.20.09.87.zip (with JDK included)
Your help is appreciated.

I ran export for a different SQL, the .csv file was generated.
Not sure if the issue I encounter is data-related. I want to point out that some of the return data contains ASCII control characters:
This is the exact SQL for the hanged-export:
select c.email_addr,c.job_title, regexp_replace(c.job_title,'[[:cntrl:]]','#'),
t.job_title, regexp_replace(t.job_title,'[[:cntrl:]]','#')
from HZ_IMP_CONTACTS_T t, my_contact c
where t.batch_id=100002764150299
and t.REL_ORIG_SYSTEM_REFERENCE = c.pr_dept_ou_id || ':' || c.row_id
and rownum < 200
Hope you can reproduce this issue.

• Why are shared files not visible when iPhone4S connected to iTunes?

What makes this problem mysterious is that I have exactly the same settings on the same or eqivalent Apps on iPad2 and iTunes4S but when my iPhone is connected to my iTunes (running on my PC under Win7) it shows no files on Apps like Pages, iBooks, Keynote, and Print-n-share. Each of these Apps has files and each shows files when I connect my iPad2. I cannot export or import filesto/from itunes and iphone because the list of files inside the Apps is not visible in itunes.
PS I CAN, btw, export and import files by using the amazing App and service "DropBox" which is the only route in and out of my iPhone (I am not ready to use iCloud).

This is not a reply but an addition. While searching for answers as to why "Shared" files in original Apps in my iPhone4S did not appear on itunes I came across a similar discussion on another Forum in which Jim described in some detail how to get the two devices (my iPhone 4S and my iPad2) to recognize similar embedded files in similar Apps. https://discussions.apple.com/message/16690584#16690584
I went through this promising procedure but it did not help. Since the two devices are independent (I think -- they are on the same accoubt but ar different devices) I should be able to make them work the same way with regard to what is seem in iTune.

Commands are intended to replace the standard linked tables that must users are accustomed to.
I suppose Commands would be considered an "advanced" feature, considering that they require the developer to be able to hand write SQL (our at least copy it from another SQL editor).
If you are comfortable writing reading, writing & editing SQL, Commands will open a the door to a whole new level of control when it comes to creating your data sets.
The biggest problem w Commands is also it's greatest strength... If you're using a Command, CR will assume that you know what you're doing and will not try to rewrite or optimize your SQL in the background. You write it, CR sends it. That means if you write crappy SQL, CR will send your crappy SQL to the db server...
It also means that you can use join types that aren't available in CR and use sub-queries in in your SQL... Basically anything you can do in the db's native editor.

• BUG?? UTF-8 non-Latin database chars in IR csv export file not export right

Hello,
i have this issue: my database character set is UTF-8 (AL32UTF8) and contains data in a table used in IR that are Greek (non-Latin). While i can see them displayed correctly in IR and also via select / in Object Browser in SQL Workshop when i try to Download as csv the produced csv does not have the Greek characters exported correctly, while the Latin ones are ok.
This problem is the same if i try IE or Firefox. Also the export in HTML works successfully and i see the Greek characters there correctly!
Is there any issue with UTF-8 and non-Latin characters in export to csv from IRs ? Can someone confirm this, or has a similar export problem with UTF-8 DB and non-Latin characters ?
How could i solve this issue ?
TIA

Hello Joel,
thanks for taking the time to answer to my Issue. Well this does not work for my case as the source of data (Database character set) is UTF-8. The Data inside the database that are shown in the IR on the Screen is UTF-8 and this is done correctly. You can see this in my example. The actual Data in the Database are from multiple languages, English, Greek, German, Bulgarian etc that's why i selected the UTF-8 character set when implementing the Database and this requirement was for all character data. Also the suggested character set from Oracle is Unicode when you create a Database and you have to support data from multiple languages.
What is the requirement, is that what i see in the IR (i mean in Display) i need to export in CSV file correctly and this is what i expect from the Download as CSV feature to achieve. I understand that you had in mind Excel when implementing this feature but a CSV is just an easy way to export the Data - a Comma Separated Values file, not necessarily to open them directly in Excel. Also i want to add here that in Excel you can import the Data in UTF-8 encoding when importing from CSV, which is fine for my customer. Also Excel 2008 and later understands a UTF-8 CSV file if you have placed the UTF-8 BOM character at the start of the file (well, it drops you to the wizzard, but it's almost the same as importing).
Since the feature you describe and if i understood correctly is creating always an ANSI encoded file in every case, even when the Database character set is UTF-8, it is impossible to export correctly if i have data that are neither in Latin, not in the other 128 country specific characters i choose in Globalization attributes and these data is that i see in Display and need to export to CSV. I believe that this feature in case the Database character set is UTF-8 should create a CSV file that is UTF-8 encoded and export correctly what i see i the screen and i suspect that others would also expect this behaviour. Or at least you can allow/implement(?) this behaviour when Automatic CSV encoding is set to No. But i stongly believe - and especially from the eyes of a user - to have different things in screen and in the depicted CSV file is a bug, not a feature.
I would like to have comments on this from other people here too.

• SQL Developer 1.1 not working

I used SQL Developer 1.0 on my machine without any problems. Now I wanted to switch to 1.1. Installation and configuration works without errors even the "test connection" button works fine. But if I try to connect to the database clicking on th plus sign of the database in the "connections" windows (and this is true for every database I tested) the SQL Developer 1.1 dies unexpectedly and without any error message. I found an old forum entry:
"Disconnecting from Raptor
Jan 19, 2006
We have an open bug that if you right-click on a disconnected node, it opens the connection. That means that if you right-click and disconnect and then either expand the node or right-click, we will reopen for you. Once you record your connection information, we do not prompt you again. We are working on adding the capability to not store your password so you will be prompted if you disconnect but in the current version, we save all your connection information so we never prompt you again. -- Sharon"
This describes our problem. The funny thing is this concerns the Raptor Project. But we are using SQL Developer 1.1.0.23.
It only happens in the session where the connection is created and the tool memorizes the password.

• Does SQL Developer allow file spooling?

Hello, I'm asking whether SQL Developer application allows me to use the spool command to save all the queries I entered during a session into a text file, just like we used to do in sqlplusw.exe, so that they can be used for reference? or do we have to save each single query we enter?

You can also select All in the output windows. Then you can right click to export the data from the output in several format.
